Bartender Calls Out Customers Who Order This Popular Alcohol—But Pronounce It Wrong

A bartender from Charlotte, North Carolina, is sick and tired of customers ordering a shot of reposado and pronouncing it wrong.

You’ve probably suspected it, but one Charlotte, North Carolina, bartender confirmed it: Bartenders judge how you order.

In an irate tequila-focused TikTok, JD (@jd.ptp) takes her complaint to social media. With over 132,600 views, her video on phonics is striking very specific chord.

“Y’all be pissing me off,” the bartender says, “When y’all be coming to my bar and say, ‘Let me get a shot.'”

Then she poses a rhetorical question to the camera, saying, “Am I a mind reader?” She explains that often she has to ask, “What kind of shot?”

And when the guest says “tequila,” the bartender has to drag out another answer. “‘What kind of tequila?'” she says.

After this presumably tedious back-and-forth, she’s insulted by the answer: “resposato.”

Thwack. She smacks her phone to the floor.

How To Say Reposado, And What’s So Special About It?

Her caption provides more information on her annoyance: “LET SAY IT TOGETHER REP-O-SADO.”

Though there are multiple designations for tequila, Food & Wine explains that “reposado” is one of the main three categories. The other two most common types are añejo and blanco. All tequila is made from “blue Weber agave across five regions in Mexico.” Over 90% of production takes place in Jalisco, and the contrasts in flavor profiles begin just after the distillation process.

Blanco is “young” tequila that’s released immediately post-distillation or up to two months after. The flavor profile is “crisp and vegetal.” Reposado is an “aged” spirit, and añejo is “extra aged.” Both spend time in oak barrels, which can deepen the flavors, imparting nuance, like notes of vanilla, caramel, dried fruits, and warm baking spices.

But like any distilled plant product, the flavor of the final product is impacted by many parts of the growing, harvesting, and processing process. Then there are the legal requirements: “Mexico’s laws require that tequila must contain a minimum of just 51% blue agave. But “mixto” tequilas can be made with a mixture of the plant’s juices and artificial sweeteners (cane sugar or high-fructose corn syrup).” While still legally classified as tequilas, they’re often considered to be inferior.

Why You Should Specify

Though JD has lots of support in the comments, there are a couple of management techniques offered.

“Everybody who orders a shot without specifying immediately gets Rumpleminze. They only make this mistake once,” said @ohsnapka.

“I just say Rep cause yall know we drunk and that’s too many syllables [triple tilted laughing emoji],” admitted another.

Then, TikToker @yourmusela quipped, “It don’t matter” me: ok a shot of scotch! Them:nooooooo OKAY EXACTLY TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT.”

One Of The Most Popular Spirits In The Country

American consumption of tequila has been steadily increasing. Currently, sales of tequila only follow vodka in terms of popularity. In 2021 the United States made up more than 60% of global tequila and mezcal sales. Experts think that the rise in popularity of the spirit is due to the rise of traditionally made tequilas.

Additionally, many traditionally crafted tequilas are made without additives and are increasingly terroir-driven. That means the soil of distinct regions imparts flavor and nuance through the plant itself. Food & Wine also notes that “consumers are exploring more styles, asking more questions, and gravitating toward tequilas that reflect a sense of place.”

Carlos Camarena, a fifth‑generation agave farmer and master distiller, says the category’s rise is rooted in consumers finally tasting high‑quality tequila and realizing it’s nothing like the harsh drink many remember from their spring break misadventures. No matter how you pronounce it.

College Soccer Game Canceled With Only Seven Minutes Left To Play Will Not Count Due To Bogus Lightning Rule

The college soccer game between UNC Wilmington and UMBC was canceled in the 83rd minute due to lightning.

UNC Wilmington was in great position to beat UMBC during the first game of the 2026 college soccer season. And then it was ruled a no contest due to weather.

The first 83 minutes of the season did not count.

The Seahawks ended up on the wrong end of the college soccer rulebook. They were seven minutes away from their first win.

UNC Wilmington held a 2-1 lead over UMBC.

Neither UNC Wilmington nor UMBC are expected to compete for a national title this season. Both programs are coming off of a .500 or worse record in 2025. Neither program received a single top 25 vote in the first poll of the preseason.

Therefore, every win matters. They are hard to come by!

The Seahawks opened the regular season at home on Thursday against the Retrievers. Kickoff was moved up to 1:00 p.m. because of the threat of weather. It got underway as planned in the pouring rain. UNC Wilmington took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

This is where things get interesting. UMBC tied the game at one goal each in the 69th minute.

And then it went into a weather delay because of lightning in the area. Games can be played in the rain. Not with lightning.

Fortunately, play got back underway about 30 minutes later. The Retrievers had a goal disallowed due to offsides, which gave the Seahawks a chance to take the lead on the quick restart. UNC Wilmington went up 2-1 with 17:53 remaining in the second half.

Unfortunately, the game went into another weather delay shortly thereafter.

The college soccer game was ruled a no contest and will not count.

A lightning delay in the 83rd minute cast doubt on the conclusion of the season-opener. The lightning did not stop. There was no sign of stopping. The radar was grim.

Because three hours of time had passed from the first delay, which took place at ~3:00 p.m., the game was canceled around 6:00 p.m. It was ruled a no contest.

Rule 7.7.4 reads as follows: “Games that have progressed to 70 minutes or beyond with a margin of three (3) or more goals will be considered final if the game is suspended and cannot be resumed on the same day. If the margin is less than three (3) goals after 70 minutes or the game has not progressed to 70 minutes, the game will either be resumed at a later date or considered a no contest.”

Even though UNC Wilmington held a one-goal lead with seven minutes left to play, it did not get the win. Even though UMBC trailed by one goal with seven minutes left to play, it did not get the loss. The game never happened. 83 minutes didn’t count.

Both teams are still undefeated at 0-0 after the first game of the season. Rather, the first 83 minutes of the season.

Awful Strike Three Call Robs California Of Game-Tying Run In Last Inning Of Little League World Series Loss

California was robbed of the game-tying run during its Little League World Series loss to Iowa on an awful strike three call by the umpire.

Iowa defeated California in the opening round of the Little League World Series behind 15 strikeouts and a solo home run from Cooper Thissen during 5.1 no-hit innings. Unfortunately, a horrible strike three call by the umpire spoiled the West region representative’s chances of defeating the Midwest representative in the bottom half of the final frame.

It was outside (and high).

Although there are multiple opportunities to win a Little League game, this singular decision changed the entire outcome of the game — if not the rest of the bracket. ABS would’ve flipped the call in favor of the team that lost.

Cooper Thissen threw a no-hitter at the Little League World Series. (Almost!)

Davenport Northwest won the Iowa state tournament to qualify for the Midwest Region tournament. Iowa eventually went on to win the Midwest Region tournament to punch its ticket to Williamsport. They were accused of stealing signs during the championship game, which is against Little League rules, but the team rejects cheating allegations with a simple explanation.

At the forefront of Iowa’s success is Cooper Thissen. The 5-foot-8 lefty plays shortstop, centerfield, pitcher and catcher for Davenport Northwest. Much like Shohei Ohtani, he loves to back himself up at the plate on days when he is on the mound.

That is exactly what happened on Friday.

Thissen struck out the side in the top of the first inning and hit 74 miles per hour on the radar gun, which translates to 96 miles per hour from a 90-foot mound. And then he homered to start the bottom of the first inning!

That was the only run of the entire game. Thissen added three more strikeouts in the top of the second inning, three strikeouts in the top of the third inning, two strikeouts in the top of the fourth inning, and struck out the side in the top of the fifth inning. He had a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts through five innings but his pitch count was catching up to him.

Little League pitchers cannot exceed 85 pitches in six innings unless they already started a new batter when they threw their 85th pitch, in which case they can finish that at-bat. Thissen threw 74 pitches through the first five innings and walked the leadoff hitter in the sixth inning to hit 80.

This is where things got interesting.

He struck out the next batter (15 total strikeouts) on his 83rd pitch, which guaranteed him another at-bat. A wild pitch sent the base runner to second. A walk and passed ball put runners on first and third with one out. Thissen was done.

Iowa won because of an awful strike three call by the umpire.

Anthony Johnson Jr. took over for Cooper Thissen in the bottom half of the sixth with one out and two runners on. Iowa still led 1-0.

California loaded the bases with two outs. Johnson faced a 3-2 count. Strike three was called to complete the combined no-hitter. The Midwest representative advanced to the winner’s side of the double elimination Little League World Series bracket. The West representative dropped down to the loser’s side of the bracket.

However, the game should’ve continued. The called strike three was outside (and high), which should’ve walked in a run on Ball 4.

The game should’ve been tied at 1 with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth. California could’ve walked it off, or at the very least, had a chance in extra innings. Instead, it was strike three. Game over.

Umpires at the Little League World Series are volunteers so it’s hard to be a hater, but the pitch was not in the zone. Brutal.

Minnesota Lynx star Courtney Williams is a number of things. She’s a three-time WNBA All-Star. She’s one half of perhaps the league’s best backcourt next to superstar rookie Olivia Miles, and she’s a star on the StudBudz Twitch stream alongside former teammate Natisha Hiedeman.

One thing Williams is apparently not, however, is financially savvy, and she’s not afraid to own up to that fact.

The majority of WNBA players received a massive pay raise this season as part of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, and not all of them were quick to put that money into savings.

Consider Williams among the many players who recently told ESPN that they immediately spent their newfound wealth in a frivolous manner.

Courtney Williams Says She Spent Her First Big WNBA Paycheck In The Strip Club

To her credit, Williams is unapologetically herself, and she has no problem being honest about her likes and dislikes. One of those likes, it seems, is strip clubs.

“I went to the strip club and blew a bag,” Williams told ESPN. “No, I’m being dead serious. Like, that particular strip club will never see me for the rest of my life. Like, I did too much in there.

“Man, they probably know me by my name.”

Williams’ streaming co-host, Hiedeman, spent her money in a different, yet equally fascinating way. She purchased Williams a custom, 7-foot-tall statue of Goku from the anime series “Dragon Ball” as a birthday gift.

“I ain’t gonna lie, I spent a little bit on that,” Hiedeman said. “They had to make it, ship it, do everything.

“She been saying she wanted one … and she’s putting her little crib together. But we said we’re done buying each other expensive gifts now. So, that was her last gift from me.”

Not every player spent their money the same way. Washington Mystics forward Kiki Iriafen was a little more practical.

“I definitely saved a lot of my money, invested a lot of money,” Iriafen said. “I finally did my 401[k] this year; I did not do that last year, so I was really proud of myself for doing that.”

Meanwhile, controversial Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham is focused on investment properties.

“I’m about to probably buy one in Nashville and Florida, and so I’m just starting to make a business outside of the court,” Cunningham said. “It’s good, it’s fun. I’m trying to buy places that I want to go visit, so when I’m there, I don’t have to pay for it.

“I think it’s a long time coming. But now you have to be smart with that money. You can’t just go out and blow it all or not invest. I think it allows all of us to kind of grow and be businesswomen.”

Safe to say, the WNBA’s growing stars are enjoying the growing pay raises as well.

The Raiders Want Las Vegas Taxpayers To Fund $75 Million Worth Of Renovations On A Stadium That Opened Six Years Ago

The Las Vegas Raiders moved into a nearly $2 billion stadium six years ago after receiving one of the largest public stadium subsidies in American sports history. Apparently six years is now old enough to start talking about renovations.

The Raiders are seeking $75 million in public money toward a proposed $158 million overhaul of Allegiant Stadium’s north entrance. The team would cover the remaining $83 million, with the project targeted for completion before Las Vegas hosts the Super Bowl again in 2029.

Allegiant Stadium Is Already Getting A $158 Million Upgrade

To be fair, the Raiders are not asking somebody to replace all the seats because the cupholders suddenly feel dated.

The proposed North Plaza Project would address what team president Sandra Douglass Morgan called one of the stadium’s biggest guest-experience “pressure points.” Thousands of fans walk from the Las Vegas Strip across the Hacienda Avenue bridge, and the renovation would create a more direct elevated path into the stadium while adding pedestrian and event decks, a new plaza and transportation improvements.

The Associated Press reports construction would begin after the Raiders’ season and is expected to finish in late 2028, ideally before Super Bowl LXIII arrives.

Still, there is something objectively funny about discussing a nine-figure renovation for a stadium whose warranty paperwork probably still feels fresh.

Allegiant Stadium was completed in July 2020 for approximately $1.97 billion. Southern Nevada supplied $750 million toward construction, while the Raiders and other private sources covered the remainder.

That public contribution was funded through a hotel-room tax approved as part of the stadium deal. The Stadium Authority says those room-tax revenues are also designed to support debt repayment, reserves, operations and future capital improvements.

Which brings us to the extra $75 million.

The Public Already Put $750 Million Into The Building

The Raiders are not proposing a brand-new tax or asking Nevada lawmakers to pull $75 million directly out of the general fund.

Instead, they want to use money sitting in what is called the Waterfall Residual Fund, essentially surplus revenue generated by the existing hotel-room tax tied to Allegiant Stadium. LVSportsBiz reported Tuesday that the fund is projected to have about $75 million available by June 30, 2027.

That distinction matters.

It is still public money. It is just public money specifically generated through the stadium funding mechanism rather than Mark Davis walking into Carson City carrying a giant novelty check request.

The Las Vegas Stadium Authority discussed the proposal Thursday but took no action. The vote could instead come Sept. 2. If approved, the Raiders would contribute more than half of the project’s cost themselves.

The timing is nevertheless incredible.

Allegiant has already hosted the 2024 Super Bowl, will host this season’s college football national championship and has a Final Four coming in 2028. The NFL also announced in March that the Super Bowl will return in 2029.

This is not exactly a crumbling multipurpose concrete bowl from 1973, and before it even celebrates its 10th birthday, the building that already received $750 million in public funding could get another $75 million from the same basic pot of tax money.

So when Tom Hanks came strolling over to Ryan Fitzpatrick he expected a jovial interaction. Instead, Tom Hanks shattered Ryan Fitzpatrick’s ego (and outfit choice).

During an ‘anniversary dance’ for couples married over 1 year, Ryan Fitzpatrick made eye contact with Hanks. He says “we’re going into this thing thinking, ‘I don’t know who’s going to be there, but we’ve been married for 20 years. We got a chance. We got a real chance. But Tom Hanks and Rita, they were gonna be better than us. They’ve been married for much longer.”

Fitzpatrick continued saying “I make eye contact with Tom Hanks. So, I’m like, ‘this guy, he knows who I am. Bill Murray knows who I am. Tom’s got to know who I am.’ Makes eye contact, points at me. Again, that magical 20 to 30 feet away, and he starts walking toward me. And so I’m feeling pretty good. I’m like, ‘Holy crap, how cool is this?’ My life that Tom Hanks knows who I am and he’s approaching me to talk to me.”

That’s where the fun ended for Fitzmagic. He went on, saying “they get closer, and he looks at me, and he says, ‘Just so you know, that’s a huge faux pas. You’re not supposed to wear a top hat at a wedding. That’s saved for the groom.’ And then just keeps walking.”

Unsure if it was all a joke or not, Fitzpatrick concluded by saying “it was, like, 50% that he was serious, 50% that it was a joke. I am not sure which. He has no idea who I am. I’m the guy that wore the top hat that was a huge faux pas at the wedding, ’cause it’s reserved for the groom.”

Is it a faux pas?

This was the first I’ve ever heard of wearing a top hat to a wedding being a faux pas. But if Tom Hanks told me it was I would 100% believe him.

That said, Google agrees. Unless it is a proper royal wedding or a themed wedding, top hats are reserved for the groom. Guests who wear top hats are encouraged to remove them once inside the wedding reception and at the Church, if there was one, for photographs.

So even though Ryan Fitzpatrick had his ego shattered by Tom Hanks we all learned something today.

There are 828 regular-season FBS games on the calendar this year, and some of them are obviously more important than others. There are certain contests that largely serve as a distraction on a random Tuesday night, but there are more than a few others that could end up being make-or-break with teams angling for a national championship.

These are the games that could have the biggest impact on the College Football Playoff in 2026

At the end of each college football season, the CFP Selection Committee can often point to one or two games that ultimately decided a team’s fate. It is not always wins and losses in college football; hanging tough in a tough road environment can also serve you well.

These seven games provide the most opportunity to prove you belong (or don’t).

Ohio State vs. Texas (Week 2)

I’m not sure how these perennial powerhouses follow up their 14-7 barn burner from a year ago, but something tells me this year’s rematch will be more entertaining.

Each quarterback enters with a full year under their belt but also more to prove. With both teams possessing elite defenses, this is a great chance for them to show they have taken a step up.

Taking a loss this early in the season hurts, but winning this game essentially buys a slip-up down the road. The winner of this game gets into the playoffs, even if they have a couple of losses.

Notre Dame vs. Miami (Week 10)

Notre Dame walks a tightrope every year by not playing in a conference; it gives them a favorable schedule but not much room for error.

Miami should be the toughest team the Irish face this year; they have to show they belong. If the ACC has a down year, there aren’t many chances for them to prove themselves either. This game should serve as an audition for both schools against real competition

If they are holding a loss by this point in the season, this could be an elimination game. After all, we saw the Irish get left out of the playoff last year with two losses.

Texas Tech vs. Houston (Week 3)

In the Big 12, an at-large bid is not something to reasonably count on. All conference games are essentially must-win to have a shot at playing for the Big 12 Championship.

Not only is this each team’s first conference game of the year, it is also their first power conference game. Each team will come in untested, but this will be Houston QB Conner Weigman’s 29th career start. His experience could give the Cougars a real chance at an early-season upset.

This early-season matchup will leave one of the 4 preseason-ranked Big 12 teams with little room for error.

BYU vs. Utah (Week 10)

Following the same logic, the other 2 preseason-ranked Big 12 teams facing off in Week 10 should have serious implications.

It wouldn’t be surprising if one of these teams can lock up a spot in the title game with a win or potentially spoil their rivals’ hopes. This will be Morgan Scalley’s first Holy War as a head coach, but he has been a part of four as a player and 17 as an assistant. The 21-time participant is more than familiar with the same state rival, and will definitely be looking to start 1-0 as head coach.

The Holy War is always great television, and with a conference as wide open as the Big 12, this will definitely be a game to monitor.

Oklahoma vs. Texas (Week 7)

The Red River Rivalry (Shootout) is a staple of the college football season, but this year it could hold extra weight.

Going into this game, Texas will have played Ohio State and Tennessee, and Oklahoma will have played Michigan and Georgia. Quarterback John Mateer played in this game last year 17 days after he broke his thumb and threw three interceptions. No doubt he will be looking for redemption in a game that already means so much to both schools.

This game may be a dagger for each school, and with the rivalry already built, it could have fireworks.

Ohio State vs. Indiana (Week 7)

1-1 in their last two games against each other, this game serves as a rubber match for the premier teams of the Big 10 over the last few seasons.

The Big 10 Championship was the closest game the national champion Hoosiers had last year, escaping with a 13-10 victory over the Buckeyes. This game should also be the first real test for transfer QB Josh Hoover; Indiana brings him in with hopes of having an air raid offense, and Ohio State lost their player and safety Caleb Downs in last year’s draft.

This time in the regular season, there is no doubt that championship game implications will be on the line for at least one (if not both) schools.

Miami vs. Clemson (Week 5)

This game will likely be the first test for last season’s runner-ups.

No matter what you think of Clemson’s recent falloff, going into Death Valley is tough for anyone. Clemson is going to want to run the ball, and Miami’s D-line is going to be the strength of their team again. This should be a battle of who can impose their will only a few weeks into the year.

As for Clemson, they will have already faced off against LSU. They might be looking to salvage their season or put together a very impressive five-week resume.

The College Football Transfer Portal Has Welcomed Its First Active NFL Player

College football has spent the past few years destroying basically every traditional boundary it once had, but this is a pretty impressive new one. Dae’Quan Wright is currently employed by the Cleveland Browns and is also officially available in the college football transfer portal.

Wright entered the portal Thursday, becoming the first active NFL player ever to formally do so. College coaches can now recruit a player who is literally sitting on an NFL roster, which feels like the transfer portal finally completing its evolution from roster-building tool into a completely lawless frontier.

Wright’s situation exists because of a temporary restraining order issued Wednesday by a Louisiana judge.

The ruling applies to a limited group of players challenging the NCAA’s eligibility rules and, crucially, prevents the NCAA from enforcing rules that would otherwise keep players who signed professional contracts from returning to college. Wright is one of the players covered by the order, along with some other current NFL players.

That produced a sentence college football probably did not expect to see in 2026: an NFL tight end entered the transfer portal, a move confirmed by Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.

Wright went undrafted in April after playing at Virginia Tech and Ole Miss, where he finished his college career with 113 catches for 1,603 yards. He originally signed with Philadelphia before Cleveland claimed him off waivers on Aug. 11.

So this is not a retired player digging his shoulder pads out of the garage after five years.

Wright is a rookie currently trying to make an NFL team.

The Browns have him on their roster while preparing for Saturday’s preseason game against Buffalo, and the NFL’s final cutdown to 53 players arrives Aug. 30. If Wright does not make it, college football suddenly exists as a legitimate fallback option instead of the usual practice-squad-or-find-another-job decision.

NFL Roster Cuts Could Get Extremely Weird

The ruling is temporary and narrow, so we are not quite at the point where Aaron Rodgers can decide he misses Saturdays and enrolls at Wisconsin.

Still, the precedent is chaotic enough.

College personnel departments are already examining whether more players could follow Wright’s path. One Big 12 general manager told CBS Sports that his program hoped the market would become saturated because it needed another player or two.

That is incredible.

NFL roster cutdown day has traditionally involved teams releasing hundreds of players who then scramble for practice-squad jobs, waiver claims, or opportunities elsewhere in professional football. Now at least some fringe NFL players could potentially respond to getting cut by checking which college has the best NIL package.

And the money makes the decision considerably less ridiculous than it would have sounded a decade ago.

A player choosing between an NFL practice-squad opportunity and a significant NIL or revenue-sharing deal at a major college program may have an actual financial decision to make, especially if returning to school gives him another season to improve his draft stock.

Wright might ultimately stay in Cleveland. The court order could also change before any of this gets much further, with an injunction hearing still ahead.

But the portal entry itself already happened.

College football officially has its first player who can receive recruiting calls from SEC coaches and an NFL paycheck at the same time.

We might need a new definition of “going pro.”

The WNBA has dropped the hammer on the fan who threw an adult toy on the court during a game.

On Thursday night, a green sex toy was thrown on the court, which led to a brief stoppage in play. Dream Center Angel Reese reported the fan, and security apprehended him.

According to Front Office Sports, the fan has been banned indefinitely from all WNBA and NBA games.

A source familiar with the situation told Front Office Sports the individual that threw the dildo was apprehended by arena security and arrested. The individual received an indefinite ban from all WNBA, NBA, and other league-affiliated games and events.

Two people were arrested in 2025 after several fans threw adult sex toys onto WNBA courts.

At the time, the WNBA said it was working with local law enforcement to ensure unruly fans were prosecuted for their actions.

“Working closely with local and federal law enforcement to pursue all appropriate actions—including arrest and prosecution with felony charges where applicable—against anyone engaged in this conduct or otherwise involved in sponsoring this reckless and unacceptable behavior.”

Despite the swift reaction from the league, it doesn’t appear that fans will stop throwing sex toys onto WNBA courts.

The Hornets are coming off their best season in the past 10 years, but they were still unable to snap a postseason drought that now sits at a full decade. They did manage to make it in the play-in round, and the team was mocked for commemorating that achievement by framing the net from their one and only win.

There hasn’t been a single NBA fanbase that’s been subjected to more disappointment over the past 10 years than the poor souls who root for the Hornets, who’ve become pretty accustomed to being led down since the franchise played its inaugural season all the way back in 1988.

Charlotte has only made the playoffs ten times in its 36 seasons of existence (including the years the team spent as the Bobcats). Six of those appearances ended with a loss in the first round, and the other four were extinguished in the second, which remains the high-water mark when it comes to the postseason.

The Hornets haven’t gotten the chance to raise that bar since a one-and-done appearance in 2016, and they are firmly the NBA team with the longest active postseason drought (the Wizards are currently in second place at five years).

They did get a glimmer of hope this season after securing a play-in berth for the third time since that format was introduced, and the team was able to secure its first-ever win in that round before being sent home.

Most franchises wouldn’t celebrate what can barely be described as an achievement, but they’ll apparently take anything they can get based on the keepsake they presented to a backup who stepped up in that contest.

The Hornets will head into the upcoming season facing a fair amount of uncertainty after trading LaMelo Ball, the former face of the franchise, to the Timberwolves in exchange for Naz Reid and a sizable haul of draft picks.

Brandon Miller is expected to step up to fill that void, and it would appear they’re going to be turning to Coby White to pick up some of the slack when you consider they signed the guard to a three-year, $74 million deal in July.

The Hornets acquired White from the Bulls last season, and he didn’t start a single game after arriving in Charlotte. However, he averaged 15.6 points and nearly 19 minutes off the bench, and he contributed 19 points to the cause in the 127-126 victory over the Heat in the play-in game that preceded the season-ending loss to the Magic.

He was the fourth-highest scorer in that win, but he was nonetheless the recipient of an interesting memento the team apparently went out of its way to preserve: one of the nets from the game, which was presented to him as a gift at a meal the team hosted after he got his new contract.

That clip came from a more than 30-minute Real Access episode that featured plenty of moments the social media team could have highlighted.

However, they opted to go with that one, which predictably sparked plenty of mockery from fans who hopped into the comments to ask “Why would you frame this?” and question the decision to “cut down a fake playoff basketball net to keep a mid player” (along with more than a few obligatory “poverty franchise” barbs).

I guess it’s the thought that counts.

IndyCar Street Course For Freedom 250 Grand Prix In Washington D.C. Looks Much Bumpier Than Expected

The IndyCar Freedom 250 Grand Prix track is going to be bumpy.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order to clear nearly two miles of road for IndyCar to race the Freedom 250 Grand Prix. The track will race more than 150 miles per hour down Pennsylvania Avenue, and past iconic American landmarks like the U.S. Capitol, the National Archives, the National Gallery of Art and the National Air and Space Museum.

However, the roads appear to be much bumpier than expected.

Although it is not uncommon for an IndyCar street court to be uneven in spots, the lack of turns on this track adds a unique wrinkle. Drivers will be going much faster in Washington D.C. than they do at other racing circuits.

IndyCar took over Washington, D.C. for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix.

If all things go according to plan, and the weather cooperates, IndyCar’s Freedom 250 Grand Prix will run 147 laps on Sunday. The 1.7-mile course will start and finish on 3rd Street. The start/finish line is aligned with the center of the Capitol and the National Mall. Drivers well then take a left turn onto the straightaway on Pennsylvania Ave and accelerate to speeds of 170 miles per hour.

Turns 2, 3 and 4 are tight. Drivers will slow way down to take two ~90º degree lefts and one ~90º right. They will wind around three sides of the National Archives with the Department of Justice right across the street.

From there, drivers will pick up speed down the 1/3-mile straightaway on 7th street. That leads them to another 90-degree left turn onto Independence Avenue past the Smithsonian building. The final turns of the race are not as sharp. And then it’s back down 3rd.

This is neither the longest or shortest street course on the IndyCar series. Petersburg, Florida and Long Beach, California run 1.8 and 1.986 miles, respectively. Detroit runs only 1.645 miles. The Freedom 250 Grand Prix track in Washington, D.C. runs 1.7.

However, this newest course has a lot less corners and a lot more straightaways. The Freedom 250 will feature only seven turns. St. Petersburg and Long Beach have 14 and 11, respectively.

It will also be the longest race of the year. IndyCar does not typically run street course races this long. There will be 147 laps to create a 250-mile race in honor of the 250th birthday. It is the longest street race in IndyCar since 1983.

To compare, Indy Car’s race at AT&T Stadium went 191 miles and the Detroit race went 164 miles. Even F1’s Las Vegas Grand Prix ends at 192.6 miles and NASCAR’s Chicago street race at 165.

The 1.7-mile street course track is bumpy.

Preparations for the race got underway at the beginning of the month. Crews put the finishing touches on the course this week with the Freedom 250 Grand Prix scheduled for Sunday.

Pace cars took the first few laps on the new track on Friday morning.

A POV video from inside the vehicle revealed a rather bumpy ride. The cars were bouncing like crazy throughout the entire test drive.

Although conditions are not ideal, the potholes and cracks in the road are not as big of an issue as they might seem. First and foremost, the IndyCar vehicles are designed differently than the pace cars. They will not feel the full impact of the road. They are much lighter in terms of how they hit the ground below them.

Plus, street courses are always pretty bumpy. Detroit might be the worst offender.

Even if the bumpy roads are not new to the drivers, never before have we seen them drive this long of a distance on a track of this caliber with this many straightaways. I am more worried about potential issues in laps 100+ than I am about the start of the race. Something to monitor!

With each new report, it sounds more and more likely that this will be the final season of the ill-fated LIV Golf league, which was founded in 2022 and financed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

The league is reportedly starting down a financial collapse, particularly amid reports that the Saudi PIF has pulled its funding.

But star player Bryson DeChambeau, who alongside Jon Rahm was meant to be the face of the league, isn’t quite ready to let LIV fall by the wayside.

Speaking ahead of LIV’s season finale in Indianapolis, DeChambeau said that he believes that the league has been a net positive not only for golf, but also for the world.

“I hope people can see that we actually bring value to the game of golf,” DeChambeau said.

“Whether it’s South Africa, here in Indy or Australia, numerous places across the world, the UK, all the different places we’ve been in the U.S. Even Nashville when we played a few years ago was unbelievable.

“I think we just have a bit of a responsibility to continue to show this. If it works, it works; awesome. If it doesn’t, we’ll figure things out. Time will move on, and I would say that time heals things.

“I hope people can see that we actually bring value to the game of golf. My wish is that people give us one more shot and be open-minded.“

DeChambeau’s view of things isn’t shared by everyone else on the LIV tour. Rahm stands to lose millions of dollars should the tour shutter, while Tyrrell Hatton sent a message to the league on Thursday when he walked out to “I Want to Break Free” by Queen at the event’s “party hole.”

But that’s par for the course for DeChambeau, who has always gone against the grain. If LIV does shutter, who knows if he’d return to the PGA Tour? But if he does, he certainly won’t be welcomed back with open arms by all of his fellow players.

Iowa Baseball Team Rejects Cheating Allegations With Simple Explanation For Little League Sign-Stealing Scandal

Davenport Northwest Little League denies cheating allegations that stem from Iowa’s sign stealing scandal.

Davenport Northwest is representing the state of Iowa and the Midwest Region at the Little League World Series. It denies any allegations of cheating through a sign-stealing operation during the regional tournament.

Head coach Mark Erwin explained the misunderstanding.

The whole thing is much ado about nothing. He did not instruct his players to violate Little League bylaws.

Davenport Northwest was accused of stealing signs.

Unlike high school, college or professional baseball, where reading an opponent’s signs from second base is often part of the game, Little League rules strictly prohibit stealing and relaying signs to alert a batter of pitch selection or location. It is classified as unsportsmanlike behavior.

Rule 9.01 (d) reads as follows: “The stealing and relaying of signs to alert the batter of pitch selection and/or location is unsportsmanlike behavior. If, in the judgment of the umpire this behavior is occurring, the team manager and those responsible including any player(s) and/or coach(es) shall be warned after the first offense. Those responsible including any player(s), coach(es), and/or manager shall be ejected from the game for a team’s subsequent offense.”

This rule was thrust to the forefront of conversation during the Southwest Region tournament in 2025 during a game between Texas West and Oklahoma. It did not lead to an ejection but teams were warned.

A similar incident took place at the Midwest Region tournament earlier this month when Wisconsin manager Kyle Fox accused Iowa of stealing signs during the championship game. He noticed a Davenport Northwest baserunner who repeatedly tugged on his battle helmet at second base after his catcher gave the pitch call to his pitcher. Later in the game, a different Iowa baserunner appeared to signal to the hitter after the pitch was called, which led to a tense conversation between Fox and the umpires.

The umpiring crew did not rule in favor of Wisconsin. Nobody was ejected. Iowa did not even receive a warning. Play on.

In the end, Davenport Northwest defeated Whitefish Bay to win the Midwest Regional and punch its ticket to Williamsport.

Unfortunately, the widespread speculation about the second base shenanigans cast a dark cloud over the victory. Was it fair?

Iowa’s Little League representative vehemently denies cheating.

Iowa was supposed to play its first game of the Little League World Series on Thursday. The game was postponed to Friday due to weather. Davenport Northwest head coach Mark Erwin took the extra time to discuss the sign stealing scandal.

He told the Des Moines Register that he did not instruct his players to cheat. His team did not do anything illegal at the Southwest Region tournament championship game.

“We didn’t teach it and I can honestly say with 100% (certainty) that the guys that were involved absolutely had nothing to do with any sign-stealing.”

The player who tugged on his helmet at second base wears a helmet that is too big for his head. It was not an attempt to relay a signal.

“His helmet is extremely big on him. He’s got a little smaller head. And if you watched him on the other bases, he’s constantly moving his helmet. So, there’s no signs given.”

Erwin was upset with the allegations. The controversy has tarnished his team’s success.

“The guys involved didn’t know anything about it really until the next day of what was going on with the story that someone’s decided to try and dig up or make up. But the frustrating part is it takes away from all the hard work and the effort of the guys that did win that game. We made some plays. A few guys had some hits. I think we only had like four hits, though, so if we were stealing signs, maybe we would have had 10 or 12 hits.”

Erwin later doubled down on the incorrect helmet sizing during an interview with Shannon Ehrhardt.

There you have it. The Iowa Little League player was not tugging on his helmet as part of a sign-stealing operation. The Davenport Northwest player has a small head. He tugged on his helmet because it is too big.

Gargantuan 1,260-Pound Blue Marlin Smashes Massachusetts State Fishing Record By Nearly 400 Pounds

One of the largest blue marlin ever caught in the Atlantic Ocean was just landed by Captain Damon Sacco aboard the Castafari while fishing in Atlantis Canyon after leaving from Falmouth Harbor in Massachusetts.

Not only is this is one of the biggest blue marlin ever caught in the Atlantic Ocean, it is also believed to be the largest ever caught on the East Coast and just 142 pounds off the IGFA All-Tackle fishing world record for Atlantic Blue Marlin, a record held by angler Paulo Amorim who caught a 1402 poudner off of Vitoria, Brazil back in 1992.

1,260-Pound ‘Grander’ Blue Marlin Smashes Massachusetts State Record

The previous Massachusetts state fishing record for the blue marlin species was 873 pounds. That fish was caught by angler Dr. Ralph DeLaTorre and has been a certified record since 2015.

Once certified, this fish will absolutely demolish that record. This grander blue marlin tipped the scales at a whopping 1,260 pounds when it was weighed in Falmouth Harbor. For those keeping track at home, that’s 387 pounds heavier than the previous Massachusetts state record for blue marlin.

Catching granders while fishing from the continental United States is an extreme rarity. Hawaii accounts for the vast majority of all ‘grander’ marlin caught in American waters but those are Pacific Blue and Black Marlin. Hauling in an Atlantic Blue Marlin off of Massachusetts that weighs over 1,200 pounds? That is unprecedented.

Within the Atlantic Ocean, most of the ‘granders’ that are caught these days are in the Cape Verdes Islands off of Africa’s Western Coast near Senegal, or the Azores off of Portugal. Those are really the two hot spots within the Atlantic Ocean for anyone chasing a marlin over 1,000 pounds.

Fish of a Lifetime

None of that matters now though because angler Walter Chapman fought this fish for three hours in Atlantis Canyon before everyone aboard the Castafari ran it back to the scale at Falmouth Harbor and blew everyone away. It measured at 142″ fork before they got it to the scales and were taking guesses on what it might weigh. Check this fish out:

Someone from On The Water was at the marina to check out this once-in-a-lifetime fish. They are calling it the largest blue marlin ever landed and weighed on the East Coast of America. I haven’t been able to independently verify that information but as I mentioned before, the ‘granders’ caught in the Atlantic are primarily in Cape Verdes, the Azores, and occasionally Bermuda as well. Though back in 2023, a 1,145-pounder was caught in the Gulf with a crew fishing out of Orange Beach, Alabama.

How Big Do These Marlin Get?

Female marlin grow considerably larger than males. In some instances, females can weight 3 to 4x more than males. So this fish was almost certainly an older female.

Given how unprecedented a catch like this is in Massachusetts, it is hard to image what the mood was like when they called this fish in and the reactions from friends and family when the crew told everyone what they’d caught. This is a legitimate ‘larger than life’ fish story that people would have to see in order to believe.

A 1,260 pounds, this fish will now become the second heaviest state fishing record in Massachusetts (142 pounds off the fishing world record). Only the 1,324-pound Mako Shark weighs more. It surpassed the state’s record for Bluefin Tuna which sits at 1,228 pounds and has stood strong since 1984.

And for context, the IGFA fishing world record for Pacific Blue Marlin is 1376 pounds. That fish was caught in Kona, Hawaii back in May of 1982. The all tackle world record for Black Marlin is the mark to beat. That sits at 1,560 pounds and was caught by angler Alfred Glasswell, Junior who was fishing out of Cabo Blanco, Peru in August of 1953.

There’s no standard definition of “art,” but many experts would tell you a piece can earn that label based on its ability to elicit some sort of reaction. That was certainly the case with a sculpture at an art gallery in Vancouver, which had its door broken down by first responders who discovered that a person who was supposedly in need of help was actually a sculpture.

Artists have been using sculptures to immortalize the likeness of actual humans for thousands of years.

Some of those pieces represented people better than any painting or drawing could before the advent of photography, and while the identities of most of those subjects have been lost to time, we still know what some ancient Romans and Greeks looked like thanks to physical monuments that have stood the test of time.

The art of sculpture has evolved quite a bit since the days when blocks of marble were the primary form of expression, and galleries around the world are filled with pieces from artists who specialize in that particular medium.

That includes one in Canada that was recently the site of a break-in orchestrated by police officers and firefighters who may have been able to save everyone some trouble if they’d taken the time to look at its website.

An art gallery in Vancouver is seeking $1,000 in damages after a sculpture was mistaken for a real person

According to CityNews, the Vancouver Police Department was dispatched to Access Gallery on the night of Friday, August 14th, after someone took a peek through the front window and spotted a potential medical emergency after spying a pair of legs on the floor sticking out from behind a counter.

Firefighters were subsequently tasked with breaking through the metal gate in front of the front door and breaching the building, and they quickly realized the efforts were all for naught after setting eyes on what actually triggered the call: Untitled (The Preparator, a sculpture by Allysa Pierre featuring a figure on its knees with its torso in a large wooden box.

The sculpture in question is part of a current exhibition dubbed “Pending” and the first thing you’re greeted by when you visit the gallery’s website, a reality its director, Saghi Ehteshamzadeh, highlighted while bemoaning what she positioned as an overzealous response on the part of the police, adding that the forced entry caused around $1,000 in damages (including the price of a locksmith who was dispatched in the middle of the night to resecure the door).

It appears the gallery has opted to cover the lower half of the sculpture with a blanket after hours, and it has filed a claim with the city in the hopes of being reimbursed.

Most folks that rely on Uber for rides recognize fluctuation in charges is just part of the game. It gets chalked up to surge pricing, rides taking longer due to traffic, some regions of the country being more expensive than others, etc. But A More Perfect Union recently published an investigation that shows something going on that every Uber rider should be aware of.

The short explanation is that Uber claims commercial car insurance fees account for around 20% of fares. The investigation discovered those fees can vary by over $35 for the exact same ride… Same driver, same rider, same route, same time of day. The same ride.

Investigation Into Uber Charges Turns Up Concerning Results

This is not the first time that More Perfect Union has looked into Uber’s practices and this time around they made mention of that in their video title, ‘We Investigated Uber Again. It’s Worse Than Last Time.’ Speaking with one driver who drove the same trip, over and over and over, they investigated why the corporate car insurance fees ranged from $13.75 to $50 for the exact same ride.

This drive in particular estimated that around $20,000 of his annual fares went toward commercial car insurance fees. Tracking all of it in a spreadsheet, that data was passed to Len Sherman who has a PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is an Executive in Residence at Columbia Business School. He points out that Uber holds the title of “having lost more money than any company in history until Open AI came along.” Sherman also points out that Uber has now become a “money making machine.”

His takeaways from the spreadsheet on commercial car insurance fees being charged on Uber fares is the fees for insurance “varied even more than the price and pay that the drivers and riders are experiencing.” As he points out, that is not how insurance should ever work.

In his words “people with essentially the same type of risk profile should be charged the same amount of premiums.” That is how insurance is supposed to work. He found the year of the trip, day of the week, time of day, and service type did not impact the fee charged.

So what gives? He found the only two factors that impacted the price of the insurance fees were (1) the price of the trip and (2) the driver pay of the trip. Based on the data, the insurance fees were determined entirely based on price, not risk. Is that really how insurance is supposed to work? No… No it is not.

Going deeper into the investigation, they found that around the time of Uber’s IPO driver’s pay was slashed by 30-35% “almost overnight.” At this time, Uber went from raking in around 15% per fare to nearly 40%. The investigation points out that Uber is now taking over 50%. So half of what riders pay goes to Uber, not the driver.

Uber says otherwise. According to the investigation, Uber still claims their take rate is around 20% which is a heck of a lot less than 50%.

Can you see where this is all headed?

According to Consumer Watchdog president Jamie Court, Aleka Insurance is a wholly owned subsidiary of Uber. In his words, “its sole purpose is to self-fund Uber’s insurance system. It is nothing more than a department of Uber, if you look at it that way.”

A ‘Captive Insurer’ is an insurance company that is wholly owned by one company to service that company’s insurance claims. This one, based in Hawaii, has a board of directors consisting entirely of former Uber executives. And according to the investigation, 95% of the insurance premiums paid on fares “stay inside of Uber.”

They then question “why does an insurance fee set by the company collecting it seemingly track price and not risk?” Unfortunately, Aleka does not have to release its data because it’s only customer is Uber. And in a statement to More Perfect Union, Uber claims their fee “tracks risk and includes factors like origin city, distance, duration, time of day, and weather.”

Uber told them that by running their own insurance it allows them to decrease the cost of the insurance and associated fees. The investigation then turns to SB 371, an insurance law passed in California. Previously, if an uninsured driver hits you Uber was responsible for up to $1 million. Now? It’s just $60,000, a 94% decrease. Meanwhile, Uber has cited the “rising cost of insurance” as necessary reason for the law but without every citing they were paying themselves the insurance fees.

They then point out that in Uber’s Proxy Statement, executives were paid specifically for the passage of SB 371. The words “passage of SB 371” are in there.

Did any of this change the cost of fares? They point out that in California, insurance costs have dropped around 20% after the change in liability but rider’s fares have increased 3% and driver pay has only rise 1%. Cheaper insurance, more expensive rides. That’s the takeaway from the investigation. Give that video above a watch for the full rundown.

BYU is one of the many schools that have a mascot that’s tasked with pumping up the crowds and mingling with fans during sporting events. However, it is charging a very hefty sum for a brief meet-and-greet with the cougar known as Cosmo during the upcoming football season.

Most people know Brigham Young University is the largest Mormon college in the country. The school can trace its roots back to the eponymous founder who served as the second president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the religious institution that continues to run (and fund) things in Provo.

In 2025, the church reportedly funneled more than $1.3 billion dollars in tithing to subsidize educational efforts at BYU. However, you may be surprised to learn that its athletic department doesn’t receive a single cent, as it operates as “a self-sustaining entity and receives no direct financial support from The Church.”

That arm of the school relies on money from private donors and the revenue it generates from athletic events to stay afloat, which may help to explain the exorbitant fees it’s charging to rub shoulders wth its mascot and other “experiences” at football games this fall.

BYU is obviously far from the only school that is constantly dreaming up ways to separate fans from their hard-earned money, and Cougars supporters will have plenty of options on that front based on the list of “Experiences” they can pick from to enhance their attendance at football games this season.

It’s kind of hard to be surprised by the lengths athletic departments are willing to go to in order to make money during the NIL Era. With that said, I also think it’s fair to be slightly offended by the kind of audacity that’s on full display here.

Every Experience offered on BYU’s website is accompanied by a fee that does not include a ticket to the home game where they’re available, and it also boasts three separate pricing tiers: the lowest is for its season opener against FCS squad Utah Tech, but things escalate for Big 12 opponents before reaching the highest tier for its showdown with Notre Dame on October 17th.

I can’t knock anybody who can afford to pay extra to join players and coaches for the pregame Cougar Walk and get the chance to snap a photo on the field, but there is one particular Experience that’s a bit hard to fathom: an In-Seat Visit From Cosmo, the team’s mascot.

Roaming the stadium and taking pictures with fans is one of the primary duties of a college football mascot, but if you want Cosmo to go out of his way to meet you when the Cougars play the Fighting Irish, you’ll have to shell out a staggering $3,203.06 (which includes the taxes and fees on top of the $3,000 base price).

If you feel like that’s too steep, it’s worth noting that it’s “only” $1,602.45 for games featuring Big 12 opponents and a relatively modest $1,068.91 for the Utah Tech showdown.

It’s unclear how long Cosmo will hang around once he arrives, but it’s worth noting every single one of those numbers is higher than the hourly rate that almost every college mascot in the country charges to attend a wedding—including Cosmo himself, whose off-campus fee starts at $300 an hour.

Marshall Manning Will Play A Much Bigger Role Than Expected As Freshman Backup Quarterback

Marshall Manning is the backup to quarterback Keegan Croucher at The Baylor School. He is going to play in every game.

Marshall Manning made his official high school football debut as the 12th-ranked Baylor School defeated Brentwood Academy in the first game of the regular season. However, he played only two snaps!

The plan is for the son of Peyton Manning to get reps in all 11 games this season, with some more than others.

This is a unique approach to high school football. Rarely does the true freshman backup quarterback see any time on the field when the score is not already out of hand in garbage time.

The 15-year-old Manning first went viral at the Pro Bowl Games back in February of 2025. It was immediately clear that he is going to be the family’s next great quarterback prospect, like his cousin Arch, father Peyton, uncle Eli and grandfather Archie.

Fast forward to March of 2026. Marshall Manning was finishing his eighth grade year at The Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee and slated to be the backup to four-star Ole Miss commit Keegan Croucher as a freshman in the fall. His cannon arm was on full display at a 7-on-7 event. The hype train started to roll out of the station.

Manning officially began his freshman year at The Baylor School with the first day of classes on Aug. 19 but he had been on campus for a few weeks for training camp and preseason scrimmages. He overcame a series of bad snaps to look identical to Arch during his first live action at the beginning of the month. He made his regular season debut on Thursday.

Baylor played Brentwood in a rematch of the 2025 DII-AAA state championship. Manning serves as the backup to Croucher.

The former is learning a lot from the latter.

The Bears ultimately rolled to an 18-point victory over the Eagles behind an unbelievable day from Tennessee running back commit David Gabriel Georges. Croucher threw for 172 yards and a touchdown. Manning completed exactly one pass.

The Baylor School wants to play Peyton Manning’s son in every game.

Keegan Croucher is the starting quarterback for The Baylor School. It is not a debate. However, the Bears are likely going to win a lot of games in blowout fashion. That will allow Marshall Manning to get on the field.

He saw the field for the first time on Thursday. Manning gave Croucher a two-play breather during the first half and completed his first pass attempt as a ninth grader.

But that was it! Croucher, who came back in on the next play, appreciates their relationship.

Head coach Erik Kimrey said the plan is to get Manning on the field during every game this season.

That is not typical. High school football teams rarely mix in their true freshman backup quarterback unless the starter gets hurt or the score gets lopsided. The Baylor School wants to get Marshall Manning acclimated. He is actually going to play!

Chris Hansen was turned away from a 'Primetime' screening for refusing to sign an NDA

Chris Hansen’s relationship with Primetime, the upcoming movie about his career making To Catch A Predator, has taken another bizarre turn. The former NBC reporter was barred from a screening of the film because he refused to sign an NDA.

Primetime, which sees Robert Pattinson starring as Chris Hansen, is based on the 2007 Esquire story “Tonight on Dateline This Man Will Die” and will be released in theaters on September 25.

According to reports, Hansen was turned away from a private screening of the film after refusing to sign what A24 describes as a standard non-disclosure agreement required of all preview attendees to prevent spoilers from leaking ahead of the film’s release.

Hansen went on Fox News afterward and claimed the document went far beyond a standard NDA and asked him to sign away rights to his name, image, brand, and any legal claims he might have against the film.

“The lawyers at A24 wanted me to sign away my rights to my name, image and brand essentially, as well as any potential legal rights that would come out of the movie. I couldn’t sign that, so they didn’t show me the film. I went all the way over there,” Hansen said.

Sources who spoke to Deadline said that characterization is not accurate, with multiple people familiar with the document saying it was a routine preview agreement of the kind A24 requires for all early screenings.

When the trailer dropped, he called it “very dramatic” and questioned Hollywood’s motives for making the project while withholding final judgment until he could see the full film.

It’s perhaps unsurprising that Hansen is wary of Primetime given its source material, as “Tonight on Dateline This Man Will Die” details the sting that effectively ended To Catch A Predator.

In November 2006, Dateline and its To Catch A Predator partners, Perverted Justice, were conducting a sting at a bait house in Murphy, Texas.

Local assistant district attorney Bill Conradt was one of the men who engaged with the operation but did not travel to the bait house.

Instead, a group of police, Dateline, and Peverted Justice personnel executed inaccurate arrest and search warrants at Conradt’s home in Terrell, Texas. After SWAT breached the house, Conradt shot himself.

And now that Adams is comfortable in his job security within the organization, the former offensive line coach has begun to make some serious demands about the team’s facilities.

Adams was mic’d up for a recent practice and revealed that secretly being mic’d up is a $1,000 fine and a $100 donation to the “hot dog fridge.”

That last part prompted reporters to ask him what exactly the hot dog fridge was. To which Adams was happy to respond.

“It’s something that I’m working on here,” Adams said.

“How can you really have a break room if you don’t have a hot dog fridge? And if you’re going to have a hot dog fridge, you’ve got to have high-quality hot dogs in it. And if you’re going to have high-quality hot dogs, we’ve got to (have) brioche buns, and maybe some pretzel buns. These are all things that we’re working on. Maybe an industrial-sized 7Eleven hot dog roller, I don’t know.”

ALL GOOD QUESTIONS.

As a glizzy connoisseur in my own right, I do have to question Adams’ choice of a pretzel bun. Even a brioche bun is often too much. A good split-top bun is all you need. And hopefully by “high-quality” hot dogs he means all beef. Preferably Costco’s quarter-pound dinner dogs. But I can live with a variety.

Adams did at least make a concession about proper bun-warming technique.

“One of the things I learned from going to Disneyland with my kids — I was trying to steam the bun, I was trying to toast the bun, and the guy at Disneyland goes, ‘No, man. Put it in the bun and wrap it in foil and let the hot dog steam the bun.’ It’s been revolutionary,” he said.

Tell you what, Klayton Adams. You bring the Cowboys their first Super Bowl in over three decades, and Jerry Jones will give you whatever kind of fridge you could possibly want in the break room.

Alabama High School Football Game Stuck In The First Quarter For Two Months Due To Blown Transformer

The Alabama high school football season-opener between Benjamin Russell and Mae Jemison was suspended due to a power outage from a blown transformer.

The high school football season-opener between Benjamin Russell and Mae Jamison in Alabama did not go as planned. The game was put on pause, indefinitely, with the score tied at 0-0 in the first quarter.

As of this writing, the plan is for the contest to resume from its current point in more than two months.

Neither high school football team wanted to forfeit. Their individual schedules just so happened to create a possible solution!

Mae Jemison and Benjamin Russell began the high school football season at Alabama A&M in Huntsville.

Established in 2016, Mae Jemison High School enrolls ~858 students in Grades 9-12. The Jaguars compete in Class 5A, Region 8 of the Alabama High School Athletic Association out of Huntsville, Alabama. Established in 1950, Benjamin Russell High School enrolls ~850 students in Grades 9-12. The Wildcats compete in Class 5A, Region 2 of the AHSAA out of Alexander City, Alabama.

These two high school football programs met at Louis Crews Stadium on the campus of Alabama A&M University on Thursday night to begin the regular season.

The high-profile non-region matchup featured some of the state’s top recruits.

It did not take long for things to go awry. Kickoff took place at 7:00 p.m. CT. Power issues caused stadium lights to flicker and the scoreboard to glitch about 10 minutes later.

As it would turn out, one of the stadium’s transformers blew. The game continued for 20 minutes but the power never returned. It eventually became too dark to play without lights and the game went into a delay around 7:30 p.m. Both coaches met with officials on how to proceed.

Nobody knew what to do.

To make things even more difficult, a massive thunderstorm was on the way. Even if the game could continue, it was going to be a mess.

The blown transformer forced a two-month delay.

Crews from Huntsville Utilities were called to Louis Crews Stadium as soon as the game went into delay. If they were able to restore power within the hour, play could continue. The blown transformer made that impossible.

The power never came back on. Officials announced an indefinite suspension around 7:55 p.m.

The game is not canceled. In order for the high school football game to be canceled, one of the teams would have to forfeit. Neither Benjamin Russell nor Mae Jemison wanted to do so. They did not want to take a loss for a game that did not get past 0-0 in the first quarter.

Therefore, the game remains in suspension. Per Thomas Ashworth of AL.com, there is a plan for resumption!

The Jaguars and Wildcats both have a bye week scheduled for Week 10. The goal is for the game to continue on the last weekend of October. We don’t yet have confirmation on the schedule change. We don’t yet know when or where.

Earlier this year, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund announced it had decided to pull the plug on LIV Golf. That decision seemingly stemmed from a number of factors, but Sergio Garcia may have reportedly played a role after losing his cool at The Masters.

The 2026 season did not initially seem like a make-or-break one for LIV Golf despite the fact that the upstart league had not come close to reaching its goal of emerging as a legitimate competitor to the PGA Tour four years after its inaugural campaign.

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund had already poured billions of dollars into the venture without much to show for it, but it apparently viewed it as a long-term investment when you consider players were informed their biggest benefactor had committed to funding it until 2032.

However, that did not end up being the case, as LIV Golf was struck with what is poised to be a fatal blow after the Saudis revealed they’d decided to cut their losses by announcing the money would stop flowing upon the conclusion of the season that is about to come to a close.

That development transpired just a couple of weeks after The Masters wrapped up, and a new report suggests it could be linked to a temper tantrum one of its golfers threw at Augusta National.

Sergio Garcia’s outburst at The Masters reportedly played a role in Saudi Arabia’s decision to stop funding LIV Golf

Ten guys affiliated with LIV Golf were invited to compete at The Masters this year, including Sergio Garcia, who earned a lifetime exemption with his victory in 2026.

The 46-year-old Spaniard headed into the major after missing the cut in his last three appearances at Augusta National, and while he was able to snap that streak, his play still left a lot to be desired at tournament where he ultimately finished in 52nd place at +8 (the third-worst of any player who made it to the weekend).

His frustration got the best of him on Sunday, as he became the first person in the history of The Masters to receive a code of conduct warning after he reacted to a wayward drive on the second hole by repeatedly slamming his driver into the tee box before breaking the club against a cooler.

LIV Golf’s decision to pull funding has been widely tied to a reassessment of priorities linked to the war with Iran, but according to a report from The Financial Times, Garcia’s hissy fit was apparently a factor.

The outlet reports Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the man who oversees the PIF, was motivated to pull the financial backing due to his “embarassment at the sequence of events,” which is a pretty wild revelation.

The future of LIV Golf is still up in the air. The league has purportedly courted a new investor who has agreed to keep it alive, but that looks to be contingent on an imminent bankruptcy filing that hinges on negotiations with current players (including Garcia) who are also grappling with a murky future.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms swept through the entirety of Central Pennsylvania on Thursday, forcing the cancellation of all games at the 2026 Little League World Series.

That meant that all games scheduled for Thursday were ultimately moved to Friday, including a pair of games between Australia and Mexico, and Nevada and Ohio. Those games were moved from Thursday at 6 p.m. to Friday at 9 a.m., and also taken off TV entirely.

ESPN had previously agreed that all games throughout the tournament would be broadcast across its platforms. But that’s no longer the case, and the change has larger implications for the fairness of the tournament.

Little League World Series Won’t Have Replay Review For Games Taken Off ESPN

For all other games in the tournament, Little League International relies on ESPN’s broadcasts for replay review. However, because the two 9 a.m. games on Friday are not being broadcast, they also won’t have the benefit of replace review.

Former BroBible writer Garrett Carr reported on Friday morning that Little League officials informed him that games will take place under a separate ruleset that does not include replay review.

“These kids worked so hard to get there just to be treated like this. It’s a slap in the face,” one fan said in response to the changes.

“I feel awful for the families of the teams who couldn’t make the trip. It could be one of only two times they’ll get to see these kids on the biggest stage. They should have at least thrown it on ESPN+,” wrote another.

The biggest issue comes if there’s a play that requires replay review. Unfortunately, teams and umpires won’t be able to use it. And it could well have a major effect on the outcome of the tournament.

Natalie Harp, a senior advisor in the Trump administration who has been making headlines in recent weeks due to her alleged relationship with the President, wrote the letter during what appears to have been a trip to Scotland.

In the letter, Harp apologizes for a series of incidents such as panicking at customs without her passport and walking on the golf course when she perhaps shouldn’t have been.

Harp describes being “distracted all week” due to grief over her father’s death, forgetting to eat and sleep, and feeling distressed that negative remarks from others were affecting her self-perception — specifically because she feared being “lowered in your eyes and good opinion.”

The most eye-opening sections of the letter come when she describes Trump as her “Guardian and Protector in this Life” and closes by saying that he is “all that matters to me.”

Harp also references Trump buying her gifts at a cash register during the trip, describing them as “Mementos of this Trip of a Lifetime, a Coming of Age.”

The 35-year-old is reportedly known as the “human printer” in the West Wing as she carried a portable printer with her on the campaign trail to give Trump physical copies of positive news stories rather than showing him screens.

She was also reportedly among the small group of aides, alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and a handful of others, who secretly switched planes with Trump in July when U.S. intelligence detected a possible Iranian plot to shoot down his aircraft as he departed Turkey.

I’m sorry. I thought I was the only one left behind last night, and had no idea Margo’s car was also pulled over, and sent back to the Airport. An unidentified man showed up to the San Diego City Council’s Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods Committee meeting on Wednesday dressed as Darth Vader to sarcastically endorse the use of Flock cameras.

In an effort to make a point about Flock cameras, a man dressed as iconic Star Wars villain Darth Vader took to the mic to share his enthusiastic support for Flock Safety’s automated license plate reader camera network, which San Diego has deployed at over 550 locations across the city.

San Diego quietly signed an undisclosed AI data contract with Flock in December 2025 without going through the city’s standard public oversight process, leading to a San Diego man spending approximately a month in jail after police trusted an automated Flock alert over contradicting evidence.

Additional controversies sparked by Flock cameras include ICE reportedly using its data for immigration enforcement, and its “National Lookup” tool has enabled out-of-state searches that critics argue circumvent legal restrictions.

Green adult sex toys are once again being thrown on WNBA courts.

Last year, several people were arrested for throwing sex toys during WNBA games, which led to the league implementing a strict policy to help curb unruly fan behavior.

“The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans,” the WNBA wrote in its statement. “In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities.”

Unfortunately, a fan threw a green adult toy onto the court during the Atlanta Dream-LA Sparks game.

Reese, who plays for the Dream, was seen laughing and joking after the adult toy was thrown on the court.

According to The Athletic, Reese pointed out the perpetrator who was apprehended by security.

Women’s MMA legend Cris Cyborg returns to the cage this weekend looking to break another record. On Saturday night, Cyborg faces Ketlen Vieira in the main event of PFL Tampa, which airs at 9 p.m. ET on August 22 on ESPN.Cyborg could become the first women’s MMA fighter to reach 30 professional wins.

While breaking another recold wouble be impressive, she admits she hadn’t given the record much thought until her team brought it up.

“I don’t check this all the time, you know. My team say, ‘Cris, you are number one, all-time female title defenses, the biggest and the most victories in your career,’ but I don’t stay checking all this. I believe when you love what you do and put in the sacrifice and do your best, you’re giving 100% everything like I do. I think this is the consequence.”

Cyborg is not overlooking Ketlen Vieira. She praises her opponent’s toughness and experience, noting that Vieira has beaten several legends, including Holly Holm and Miesha Tate.

“She’s top 10 in the sport. She beat a lot of legends in the sport (Holly Holm, Miesha Tate). I think it’s a great test, a great challenge, and I love challenge. If I win the fight, it’s gonna be my 19th championship fight with victory. I know Ketlen is a tough girl, she has a lot of experience, and it’s going to be a tough fight.”

Although the bout has been billed as a potential retirement fight, Cyborg says she is not ready to fully close the door. At 41, she feels she is fighting better than she did at 21 and simply wants to enjoy the moment.

“For over three years I’ve been saying maybe this can be my last fight, because I’m 41 years old—not because I feel old. I know my body, I know how to make weight. It’s 21 years of experience. Every last three years my team say, ‘Cris, enjoy every single moment, enjoy going to the hotel, enjoy your training camp, enjoy the people around you, enjoy the fans, because this is gonna finish one day.’ So I don’t want to be surprised.”

Cyborg is currently on the final fight of her PFL contract. While she is not sure whether she will fight again, she speaks highly of Jake Paul and the upcoming MVP x PFL merger.

“I always support MVP. I went to almost all the boxing fights. I always support Holly there too and Serrano, all the girls fighting. I believe what he did in the sport is nice—he made a difference in the boxing world for the females. If PFL and MVP come together, I believe it is great to make the sport bigger, like Jake Paul said. If you are free, if your contract finishes, come to me—I really want to help the fighters get paid better. So let’s see what’s gonna happen after this merge.“

“But I can say that now, with MVP merging with PFL, I’m the first athlete to be a champion in boxing and a champion in MMA at the same time. They have women’s boxing, and I don’t know, but if we’re going to be better, I believe fighters need more events for sure and more opportunities. This opens the door for negotiation and for getting paid better. When you have a place to go, I think it’s nice. Fighters need a place to fight and keep getting better.”

With a potential boxing match in her sights, Cyborg has also called out Claressa Shields, claiming she turned down a $2 million fight offer.

“If you are really 100% sure you beat me in that sparring, that you did so good in that sparring, okay—then why run away from $2 million? For me, it is supposed to be an easy fight for you then. Why are you running around? Why are you running? So if you guys listen to me, just think about it. If you just say, ‘Oh, I beat her in the sparring,’ cool.“Her last fight she made $500,000—you can see it on the commission. So why are you running from $2 million to fight me, somebody you already beat in sparring?

“Sounds very weird. She can find a lot of excuses to avoid this fight, or just say, ‘Okay, let’s do this fight.’ I’m not saying it is going to be an easy fight for me, but I love a challenge. If you know my career, I don’t step down. I’m not scared, and I’m excited for sure. I’m gonna train my butt off for this fight and do the best for the fans. Because I love what I do. Man Mows His Lawn. Then His HOA Cites Him For ‘Striping Patterns That Are Excessively Straight’

A viral TikTok shows what one man says is an HOA violation over his unusually neat lawn striping.

Anyone who has ever had to deal with a homeowners association (HOA) complaint knows how ugly it can get.

Funded by property owners themselves, HOAs are supposed to manage rules and maintain properties within a community.

According to one lawn content creator, however, the violations they cite don’t always make sense.

In a series of videos posted to his TikTok account @thelawnglowup, the content creator says his HOA is coming after him for an unusual reason: His lawn is too perfect.

In a June 2026 video that went viral with 3.3 million views, he reads a printed violation notice, leaving viewers in disbelief.

What Did The HOA Allegedly Say About His Lawn?

“Buckle up today cause this is gonna get good,” the creator begins.

He then reads what he says is a formal HOA violation notice.

According to the letter, his alleged violation falls under Section 8.4 B: “Maintaining lawn quality beyond reasonable neighborhood expectations.”

“What the hell does that even mean?” he asks.

Then he gets to the description of the alleged violation.

“Lawn stripes visible from excessive distance,” he reads. “Striping patterns appear professionally maintained. Neighboring lawns adversely affected by comparison.”

The creator doesn’t take that criticism as an insult.

“Well, I mean, I do take pride in it,” he says. He also disputes the claim that his yard makes the neighboring lawns look bad, pointing out that several people around him have well-maintained lawns, too.

The alleged corrective measures are also unusual.

According to the notice, he must “mow in random directions,” skip at least one mowing cycle per week, and allow visible wheel marks on the lawn.

“Not gonna happen,” he responds.

Then, the HOA allegedly tells him to “refrain from posting lawn photographs on social media.”

“No,” he says. “No, we’re not gonna do that, either.”

Finally, the notice allegedly warns that a “continued display of exceptional lawn striping” could result in further enforcement, including restrictions on his reel mower usage.

“Yeah, I’d like to see you try,” the creator responds.

Instead of convincing him to tone down his lawn, the notice seems to have done the opposite.

“You think I was petty before?” he asks. “You wait now. This is gonna get good.”

The Lawn GlowUp has continued documenting what it calls its “HOA Saga” across its social media accounts. In a latest video, the TikToker even says he has hired a private investigator.

Is An HOA Allowed To Do This?

Possibly, yes. HOAs can often control quite a lot about a homeowner’s landscaping, as long as the restrictions are authorized by the community’s governing documents and don’t conflict with state or local law.

Typical HOA landscaping rules can control things like grass height, weeds, dead patches, approved plants or trees, mulch/rock colors, edging, lawn ornaments, and more.

Homeowners online have reported landscaping disputes before.

In one Reddit post, a homeowner shared a photo of their landscaping after allegedly receiving an HOA violation over their yard art. “I clearly don’t understand social norms if this is an HOA violation for the yard art,” they wrote.

Another lawn creator online has reported the opposite problem: Their HOA allegedly instructed them to mow in straight lines.

American Homeowners Aren’t Thrilled About HOAs

Viewers overwhelmingly sided with the homeowner.

“I see where you went wrong: You moved into a house with an HOA,” one commenter wrote.

Another encouraged him to technically follow the demand while making his lawn even more noticeable. “They said ‘straight’ line…I say it’s time to do a wave pattern,” they wrote.

Meanwhile, another summed up their opinion of the organization with an acronym of their own. “H.O.A stands for High On Authority!!” they wrote.

And those commenters aren’t alone in having a negative opinion of HOAs.

In its 2023 Housing and HOAs poll, YouGov found that 61% of Americans would prefer to live in a neighborhood without an HOA, compared with only 14% who would prefer to live in one. Even among people who currently live in HOA-governed neighborhoods, 49% said they would rather live without an HOA, while only 35% preferred having one.

Paddy Pimblett has gained a ton of weight since his last fight.

Last month, Pimblett weighed in at 155 pounds and faced Benoît Saint Denis, winning via first-round submission.

Since then, Pimblett has been non-stop eating. Over the weekend, a beefed-up Paddy was seen eating a Philly cheesesteak during the UFC 330 live stream.

The English UFC star went on to eat more cheesesteaks later.

While speaking to Chris Long on the Greenlight podcast, Pimblett revealed that he’s gained over 50 pounds since weighing in at 155 for his last fight.

“I reckon when I’m retired, I’m going to be weighing heavyweight. I’m still fighting now and I’m about 200-205lbs. Getting up to 250lbs is not going to be a bother for me”

Pimblett has spoken about his eating habits in the past.

“I genuinely think I’m a food addict. I think I’ve got a bit of an eating disorder because of MMA. The weight cuts, dieting, I genuinely think I have a bit of an eating disorder. People when they go eat with me they are visibly shocked at how much I can eat.”

It doesn’t seem like Pimblett has any fights lined up for a while, and he has a chance to gain a ton more weight before his next trip to the Octagon.

A Florida woman says she faced an embarrassing ordeal at Walmart after employees accused her of failing to pay for a steak. She claims employees detained her even though she had scanned and paid for the item.

On Aug. 14, the woman, TikToker @thatssokeezy, described the incident in a viral video that has amassed over 477,000 views. “I’m literally appalled, because I just got detained in Walmart over a freaking steak,” she says.

Why Was The Woman Detained At Walmart?

“I just did my grocery shopping, like I normally do at Walmart, and I go straight to the self-checkout,” she says.

An employee approached her and claimed she had not scanned one of her items. The woman insisted that she had scanned everything. “A video popped up on the screen, and it showed me literally scanning it,” she says.

She says the employee then checked the woman’s bags before realizing she had scanned the items. The woman says she felt frustrated after the interaction. She says she paid for her groceries and received her receipt. However, employees, according to her, stopped her near the exit and asked to inspect her receipt.

One employee, she says, claimed she had not paid for a steak. The woman says she again insisted that she had paid for it. “I did pay for the steak. I saw it scan, the lady saw it scan, and then I paid for it,” she says.

Loss prevention employees then asked her to enter a room, according to the TikToker. She says she refused because she believed she had done nothing wrong. The situation escalated when employees said they would call the sheriff’s office, she continues. Police, per her retelling, arrived within minutes and eventually accompanied her into the room.

Employees, she says, scanned her receipt and each item to determine which purchases appeared on the transaction. When they scanned the steak, she says the system showed that she had paid for it.

The employees then reviewed surveillance footage, according to the TikToker. And she says the footage showed her scanning the steak before completing her purchase. “They were like, ‘Oh, she did pay for it. It just must be a glitch with the machine,’” she recalls.

The woman says an officer apologized after employees confirmed her payment. She says she then questioned what Walmart would do after the ordeal. The store manager offered her a $1,000 gift card if she agreed not to pursue legal action, she continues. The woman says she accepted the gift card but still plans to press charges.

Can Walmart Detain You?

Walmart’s actions may raise legal questions, but the answer depends on the circumstances and state law. In Florida, merchants can detain suspected shoplifters under certain conditions. The law requires probable cause and a reasonable detention.

That means Walmart could have legal protection if employees reasonably believed the woman had stolen the steak. The protection does not automatically apply to every customer stopped at the exit. Employees must have a legitimate basis for suspecting theft. They also must handle the detention reasonably.

The store likely stopped the woman because its system showed a discrepancy. Self-checkout creates additional opportunities for scanning errors and suspected theft. Additionally, Walmart uses receipt checks as part of its loss-prevention efforts.

The reported $1,000 gift card could also complicate matters. The woman says Walmart offered it on the condition that she agree not to pursue charges. The exact terms of that agreement would matter greatly.

Anyone considering a lawsuit should preserve the receipt, surveillance evidence, police information, and gift card agreement. An attorney could then assess whether Walmart exceeded its legal authority.

As previously reported by BroBible, some Uber drivers go rogue. This can include driving off with a customer’s luggage or even trying to get extra cash and essentially holding one person’s food delivery to ransom. This TikToker’s Uber driver, however, was on another level.

The TikTok, which has garnered 348,600 views, consists of a series of screenshots while the viral “the saxophones are getting louder” sound plays in the background.

The first screenshot shows the TikToker giving their driver a one-star rating, with on-screen text saying, “Ordered Costco via Uber and my Uber driver bought himself stuff on my order.”

They then show viewers the list of items they ordered and highlight how a microfiber cloth was among the items.

“Costco receipt says 11 items,” additional text read. “That microfiber cloth? Not mine.”

The user then showed a $23.67 service charge which they said they “never approved.”

Finally, the final slide showed a screenshot of an email with Uber. “Uber support: no refund, even with proof,” the caption read. “Anyone else dealt with this?”

The email itself said, “Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns about the unexpected charge and the item you did not order in your recent Costco order. I understand how upsetting it is to see an item you didn’t purchase, like the KS MICROFIBR, added to your bill, and to feel that your trust has been violated. After reviewing your order, I’m unable to process a refund for the adjustment charge at this time. Your feedback is very important to us, and I will make sure this issue is reported to the appropriate team for further review. We take these matters seriously and will investigate the situation with the delivery person. Thank you for being an Uber One Member.”

BroBible reached out to the TikToker via TikTok direct message and to Uber via email.

Suggestions From Other Customers

Some said they had a similar experience. “I told the customer support line I would sue and go through small claims court and I got a refund,” one shared.

“Uber Eats driver stole my wing stop order took a picture as driving by my house and at first they refused to refund me saying I got my order,” another added.

Others suggested actions the TikToker could take.

“You can dispute this with your bank and report Uber to the FTC for fraudulent business practices,” a third suggested. “Watch how nice they start talking after you do.”

And a fourth said, “Always pay with credit card so that you can dispute fraudulent charges.”

Uber Eats Driver Sparks Debate On Reddit

A post on the r/UberEatsDriver subreddit looks at this situation from another perspective. While it goes without saying that this would violate Uber’s policy, one driver made the following query: “First and foremost I have absolutely 100% never stolen a single thing, but I’m just wondering how anybody would know whether or not you bought like a soda with a big shopping order?”

He added, “How would they know if you purchase something for like two bucks for yourself? I would bet dollars to donuts that they don’t look at any of that s— unless there’s a problem. They literally probably have tens of thousands of shopping orders coming through on a daily basis. I never give the customer the receipt. I was under the impression that’s why we’re taking a picture of it. My guess is there’s a dollar amount it won’t authorize over. They would have no way of knowing how many items were scanned, but the dollar amount is like 20 bucks over the card probably won’t go through.”

In response, fellow Uber drivers called out OP.

“I buy stuff like that with my own money,” one wrote.

My first thought is don’t even go there,” a second added. “You said you’d never stolen anything, why start now. Think integrity, work ethic. Just my opinion.”

A third shared how an Instacart shopper did the same to them and said, “Nothing would stop you from doing it if you want. But I couldn’t do it. Regardless of what’s going on, I won’t steal from anyone. I couldn’t live with the guilt.”

People Betting On Duke In North Carolina Will Inadvertently Be Funneling Money To UNC Athletics

The Duke-North Carolina rivalry has spent more than a century producing hatred, heartbreak and grown adults screaming at college students. North Carolina has now found a beautiful new wrinkle: betting activity involving Duke can help create tax revenue that eventually winds up funding North Carolina Tar Heels athletics.

No, there is not literally a “Duke lost, send UNC $14” button in Raleigh. But North Carolina’s newly revamped sports-wagering formula pools taxes collected from sportsbook revenue and distributes millions of dollars to public university athletic departments, including UNC and NC State for the first time.

North Carolina Found A New Way To Make The Duke Rivalry Weird

Gov. Josh Stein signed the state’s new budget on July 7, and the changes are significant.

The new state budget raises North Carolina’s tax on sportsbook gross wagering revenue from 18% to 23% and dramatically changes where that money goes. UNC and NC State, previously excluded from the university athletics distribution, are now eligible alongside the other public schools in the UNC System.

According to the legislative analysis, UNC and NC State can each receive money through two different buckets immediately: one shared by Division I and Division II public universities and another specifically for Division I schools.

Then another pile arrives next summer.

Beginning July 1, 2027, public universities with FBS football programs get access to an additional 5.7% of the remaining wagering-tax proceeds, split among Appalachian State, East Carolina, Charlotte, NC State and UNC. That FBS portion is capped at $2.5 million per school.

Add everything together and the numbers become pretty substantial.

The official NC State breakdown says its athletic department expects about $3 million from sports-wagering receipts during the 2026-27 fiscal year and $5.8 million in 2027-28 once the FBS allocation kicks in. UNC is projected to receive the same amount under the formula.

That is real athletic-department money generated, in part, by North Carolinians repeatedly convincing themselves Duke -3.5 is free cash.

Duke Can Generate The Money But Cannot Get The Money

Here is the especially funny part.

Duke is a private university, so it is not one of the public institutions receiving these distributions.

If a North Carolina bettor wagers on Duke basketball, Duke football or basically anything else available through a legal sportsbook, that betting activity contributes to the operator’s overall business. When sportsbooks finish with positive gross wagering revenue, the state takes its 23% cut.

That tax revenue goes into one big statewide pool rather than being tracked by individual game or school, so it would be inaccurate to claim a specific $100 Duke bet directly deposits money into UNC’s checking account.

It is also completely fair to say the overall ecosystem can produce exactly that rivalry dynamic.

The more money sportsbooks make from North Carolina bettors, the larger the taxable revenue base can become. The larger that pool becomes, the more money available for the university allocations up to their statutory caps.

The fiscal estimate projects roughly $206 million in sports-wagering tax revenue for the 2026-27 fiscal year under the new 23% rate.

College sports spent decades insisting gambling needed to stay as far away from campus as possible.

We have now reached the point where a Duke fan losing a parlay can indirectly help pay for athletics in Chapel Hill.

Rivalries evolve.

A Southwest flyer noticed something strange while booking her ticket. Is the airline trying to hide extra legroom seats?

Southwest Airlines used to be a great solution for Americans traveling on a budget.

But ever since the airline started to raise prices, move to assign seating, and add additional charges for checked bags, some travelers have decided to switch to other airlines.

One convert recently shared her story of why she is no longer flying with the airline. According to her, the airline pulled a move on her that made her feel she was being scammed.

What’s Going On With This Seat Map?

In a video with over 112,000 views, TikTok user Nicole (@nicole_rose1) explains why she believes airlines are “getting away with scamming us.”

According to Nicole, she was in the process of booking a flight from Kansas City to New York with Southwest when she was presented with two options: Choice Preferred and Choice Extra.

“I chose Choice Extra, right? To change my flight—$300—mainly extra legroom,” she says, listing the selection’s benefits and costs.

However, when she got to the next page, she says she saw that none of the extra legroom seats were available.

“You might be [thinking], ‘Well, they’re full.’ They’re not,” she states. From here, she hits “Choice Preferred,” the cheaper option that does not advertise extra legroom. Suddenly, the extra legroom seats are available—for an additional fee.

“This is why I don’t book Southwest,” she concludes. “This will absolutely be my last flight on Southwest.”

Is This A Scam?

Some commenters were quick to point out that, if one adds the price of the preferred seat to the additional extra legroom cost, it would come out to be lower than the price of an extra seat. What these commenters are ignoring is that the extra seat comes with two checked bags, while the preferred seat does not. This means the total cost is likely higher, which Nicole thinks is “ridiculous.”

Nicole isn’t the only one to report this problem. Several users on Reddit claim to have experienced the same issue. That said, no one can say why this is the case.

However, there do appear to be ways around it. One user on Reddit stated that they were able to book the fare, then hit “modify seat.” From there, they could book a seat with extra legroom without paying extra.

This led some on the site to speculate that this could simply be a glitch. That said, it’s just one of many problems that internet users have reported since Southwest began making major changes.

Viewers Say It’s A Scam

In the comments section, users called out the current state of the American airline market.

“We NEED legislation to do something about flying because this is getting absurd,” wrote a user.

“I booked with a southwest credit card to get choice of seats 48 hours before my flight, only to find out the only choices available are middle seats separating my family of 5. Meanwhile several pay seats are still available,” alleged another.

“I flew SWA religiously because of the general seating and 2 free bags,” shared a third. “As soon as they removed those benefits, I stopped flying with them and never will again.”

Penn State QB Exploits Academic Facade To Make $1 Million During College Victory Lap

Rocco Becht is taking one class at Penn State this fall.

The NCAA would like you to believe that top college football players are attending schools for the advancement of both athletics and education. It’s a facade.

It’s no secret that many future NFL pros have no interest in the classroom. Penn State quarterback Rocco Becht is exploiting that illusion while raking in seven figures.

The passer will take one online class this fall. He still does not know what that class will be. His focus is on the 2026 football season. A successful campaign will lead to a professional opportunity.

Rocco Becht didn’t go to Penn State for school.

The fifth-year signal caller has already attained his undergraduate degree from Iowa State. For all intents and purposes, taking a victory lap in order to play for the Nittany Lions.

Becht has entered a graduate program at Penn State. He will take one online class this semester with the opportunity to continue in the spring. It seems the lightest possible avenue to remain eligible for his final season.

During my own graduate studies, I had a professor on the first day of class ask the question, “Why are you seeking your Master’s degree?” My classmate’s response was, “To avoid the real world.”

Becht is able to do just that. His reward is much greater than mine. I was simply prolonging the idea of moving back home to find a job. He’s getting paid $1 million to stay in college a year longer, and making as much money now as he would’ve had he gone pro.

Becht was in an interesting situation after his final season at Iowa State. He was a fringe NFL player that had been extremely productive in college. His head coach got a promotion with a job at Penn State. Now, he upgrades, too.

Rather than test the professional waters, he secured a chance to showcase his skillset on a larger stage. Becht is viewed as a mid- to late-round pro prospect. If his Big 12 success translates to the Big 10, his stock will only rise.

If all goes according to play, Rocco Becht will not need to finish his graduate studies, at least not next spring. He will get drafted and sign with an NFL team. His one class might be all he takes, hence, the reason for backloading his schedule.

Class is not important.

This is nothing new. We saw it with Carson Beck last season after a transfer to Miami. It’s been well-documented long before Beck.

Cardale Jones said it best at Ohio State:

“Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain’t come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS.”

Heisman trophy winner Matt Leinart took ballroom dancing during his final semester at USC. It was his only class of the fall. Countless others have taken similar paths. Anything to stay eligible!

This is not a knock on Rocco Becht. He’s already earned his undergraduate degree. I’d do the same if I were in his shoes.

And hey, I could be completely wrong when all is said and done, but I don’t see him passing up an NFL opportunity to pursue his Master’s. Maybe he can do both through online coursework. He’ll always have the option to return at a later date if the degree is important to him.

The terms of Becht’s NIL agreement are not public. I don’t know if he receives payment up front or month to month. I’m unsure if his income will be docked if he leaves school in the spring.

Either way, he’s getting lifechanging money to go to Penn State – and (basically) not attend class.

After suing his dad’s company for $12 million over alleged fraud, Baker Mayfield says he has reconciled with his family.

In 2024, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback sued his father’s company for alleged misappropriation of $12 million. Emily, Mayfield’s wife, and the couple’s company, Team BRM, were also named as plaintiffs in the lawsuit against Camwood Capital Management Group and its subsidiaries.

James W. Mayfield, Baker Mayfield’s father, founded and owns Camwood Capital Management. Baker’s brother brother, Matt, is also an owner and oversees investments in the company’s venture capital subsidiary, Camwood Ventures.

According to the lawsuit, Camwood Capital Management Group entered into an agreement with Baker and his wife in January 2024, but failed to meet its obligations. Those obligations included repaying roughly $11.7 million plus interest.

At the time, Mayfield said, “It’s something that Emily and I have been dealing with for a lot longer than people know.” He and his wife sought information about the money for years. According to the lawsuit, the money was “surreptitiously transferred” from his accounts beginning in 2018.

Baker Mayfield’s young daughter was an important reason for the reconciliation

This week, the 31-year-old quarterback revealed that he and his family reconciled when he and his wife traveled to Texas in April 2025 so their daughter Kova could meet her relatives.

“In the past few months, I’ve been reconnected with my family,” Mayfield told the Tampa Bay Times. “It’s been good. Also, for them to have two grandbabies, it’s tough. What’s in the past is in the past. Emily and I took (Kova) down right around her first birthday. … First time they met her, and you (could) tell it just melted them.

“You can’t put yourself on a pedestal and act like I haven’t made mistakes in my life. I had the ability to forgive and that was what I wanted to get across. But we’re here and the door is open. The past few months, we have made good progress and began reconnecting.”

Bunnie Xo and Jelly Roll are taking two very different approaches to life after their divorce. The country music singer decided to take time away from the spotlight to “heal” while his ex-wife hits the streets.

Those are their words, not mine.

One of the most high-profile divorces in recent history has led to an unexpected sequence of events. I am not so sure it ended as amicably as they would like us to think.

Jelly Roll is taking time off.

Even if the couple did their best to keep things civil, the divorce got messy in a hurry. Jelly Roll hired one of the most ruthless lawyers in Nashville while rumors started to swirl about the end of their relationship. He was “all hopped up on testosterone” in the Music City dating pool. She was not quite ready to get back out there.

And then the script seemingly flipped.

Bunnie Xo (jokingly) compared her marriage to Jelly Roll to a 10-year prison sentence and revealed the amount of rappers who slid into her DMs. She also smooched a 24-year-old reality television character at her ex-husband’s bar on the 4th of July.

Around that same time, the divorce became official. Bunnie Xo brought the 24-year-old with her to purchase a $500,000 Rolls Royce, bought a new property in Los Angeles (even though she got to keep the Tennessee compound in the divorce), and went under the knife for a cosmetic procedure.

Meanwhile, Jelly Roll wrapped up his ‘Little Ass Shed Tour’ and closed out the last few dates on Post Malone’s ‘Big Ass Stadium Tour.’ He only addressed the divorce once. We did not hear a lot from him in the tabloids.

The country music singer later announced at the end of July that he is going to take a break. Jelly Roll said he is “fixing to take some time off and heal.” He hopes to return refreshed in a year or two. Until then, don’t expect to see or hear much of/from him.

Bunnie Xo is living her best life after the divorce.

While Jelly Roll fades into the background, his ex-wife is stepping into the foreground. Bunnie Xo joined Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones on the TODAY Show to talk about her memoir and life after her divorce. “Baddie Bunnie Summer” has been great.

“They never should have let me back out in the streets because I love it here. I love it here, and I’m never going back.”

Although Bunnie Xo was sad to split from Jelly Roll, she actually considers it to be a huge positive for her life.

“It was beautifully tragic. I got my smile back and my smile’s to my ears. I’m having the frickin’ time of my life and I’m just thriving […] I never thought it would turn out to be such a blessing, but it’s such a blessing and I’m so thankful.”

Her DMs are on fire.

“It is a frickin’ smorgasbord. It’s a boy buffet. I have a lot of women in my DMs too.”

She wants to be an inspiration for other women.

“I hope that my journey can show women … I feel like us women, we put ourselves aside for partners, friends, kids. It’s like we don’t pour into ourselves and sometimes, you need to be selfish and you need to pour into yourself.”

Seeing that Jelly Roll decided to step away from the spotlight while Bunnie Xo is promoting a new book on NBC and kissing guys who are half her age, the ex-couple are on two very different paths. They also unfollowed each other on social media, which makes me think there was more to their divorce than they are leading on.

When former Penn State and Missouri quarterback Beau Pribula entered the transfer portal following the 2025 season, he had one destination in mind.

Pribula, a Pennsylvania native who began his career with the Nittany Lions, was intent on reuniting with former coach James Franklin at Virginia Tech.

And it appeared that Franklin was on the same page; at least, that’s what Pribula was led to believe.

James Franklin Pulled The Rug From Under Beau Pribula On Virginia Tech Visit

Franklin and Pribula had a great relationship in their time together at Penn State. So much so that it was difficult for both of them when Pribula opted to transfer to Missouri rather than sit another year behind starter Drew Allar.

Franklin stated that Pribula had “been a phenomenal teammate, has been a big reason why we are where we are right now” when he left the Nittany Lions during their 2024 College Football Playoff run.

So it was no surprise that even after Pribula’s up-and-down season at Missouri, the two reunited when Pribula re-entered the portal.

In a recent interview with ESPN, Pribula revealed that he and agent Joe Gazza had only one visit scheduled when the transfer portal officially opened Jan. 2: to Virginia Tech.

Franklin even set up for a car service to drive Pribula, his older brother Cade, and Gazza from his home in York, PA to Blacksburg for an official visit.

However, immediately after the trio arrived on campus at Virginia Tech, they were told that Franklin and co. opted to go in a different direction. Rather than signing Pribula, they chose another former Penn State quarterback, Ethan Grunkemeyer.

Grunkemeyer had served as Allar’s understudy in 2025 and then started seven games after Allar broke his left ankle against Northwestern.

“I’m like, ‘What are you talking about? We’re here,'” Gazza said.

Pribula was forced to immediately pivot and eventually found his way to Franklin and Virginia Tech’s rival: the Virginia Cavaliers.

“The clock was ticking,” Pribula said. “I didn’t want to rush anything. But I understood time was not something that was a luxury.”

The two sides will square off on Nov. 28 in the Commonwealth Cup rivalry game. And you can bet Pribula will come into that game with a chip on his shoulder.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has opened up about Marvel canceling 'Wonder Man'

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, the star of the recently canceled Marvel Studios TV Wonder Man, implied that race had something to do with the fate of the series. is asking a pointed question about Marvel and Disney — and he’s not softening the implication.

While both fans and critics largely acclaimed Wonder Man’s first season after it launched on Disney+ in January 2026 — it boasts a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score and earned Abdul-Mateen an Emmy nomination — the series was ultimately canceled by Marvel Studios in July.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II says the cancellation of Wonder Man has “obvious optics” he thinks Disney should address

The decision to axe the series was even more surprising considering that it was reported it had been renewed for a second season back in March.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Abdul-Mateen noted that Wonder Man and Mahershala Ali’s long-gestating *Blade* — both Marvel projects with Black leads — have been the two most high-profile Marvel casualties in recent memory.

While the former Watchmen star stopped short of calling the cancellations racist outright, he described the “optics” as “obvious” when asked about the cancelation of Wonder Man and Marvel’s inability to get the Blade movie with Mahershala Ali off the ground.

“I think the optics are obvious. If I’m a big business, if I’m Disney, if I’m Marvel, I don’t want to be attached to these optics,” Abdul-Mateen said. “It should be a priority to change that narrative and to do what it takes to responsibly change that narrative with quality stories, with quality resources.”

“I felt that our show did have quality story, did have quality resources, did have quality actors and people, and did produce quality results that the viewers responded to positively, that the voters responded to positively. So our show does deserve some study and some real, hard information about why a show like this did not continue forward, because it had all of the ingredients that one would want in a show.”

Marvel Studios’ failed development of Blade is one of the biggest mishaps in the studio’s history.

Ali was announced as the new Blade in 2019, fresh off winning his second Academy Award. The project went through multiple directors — including Bassam Tariq, who departed in 2022 — and multiple scripts. Yann Demange was brought on as a replacement director before also departing.

Blade was repeatedly delayed, pulled from release schedules, and quietly shelved before being officially cancelled in 2025, with Ali remaining attached to the project throughout. Back in July, the two-time Oscar winner opened up about his own frustrations with the botched development of Blade

“When I look at what is for me, is it was either this or that — and I’ll take this. No offense to them. I’ve been doing this professionally for pushing 30 years now, and one thing I’ve learned is that what is for you is for you and what is not is not. For whatever reason, that project is not for me,” Ali said in an interview with GQ.

“If they wanted to do it, we would’ve done it. So I have to move on, and I have moved on. Again, you had me under contract, they have billions of dollars, if they wanted to do the movie, we would’ve done the movie. So we’re not doing the movie.”

To his credit, longtime Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige called himself a “loser” for failing to get the film off the ground.

“I am feeling like a gigantic loser and failure that we didn’t get off the ground with Mahershala,” Feige said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast last week.

“We didn’t want to simply just put a leather outfit on him and have him start killing vampires. It had to be unique. Man Buys House From Zillow. It Was Listed With The Wrong City And Address—Now He’s Stuck

A couple found a house on Zillow, visited, and made an offer. After it was accepted, they realized they bought a different property.

A man says he bought a house he found on Zillow, only to discover that he may have purchased a completely different property—or no property at all.

According to TikTok user Sean (@seans.crazy.life), he and his wife found a house on Zillow and made arrangements to see it. When they arrived at the address, they saw a completely different house, listed at the address 962 Sherwood.

“Called the realtor and he said, ‘Oh, Google Maps is wrong for some reason. You got to go a quarter mile east to the next house.’ So, we did,” he recalls.

This was the first red flag of many—though the others would arise after their offer was accepted.

What Happened Next?

Sean says that, after submitting an offer that got accepted, he and his wife began transferring all of their documents to the new address.

Just before closing, however, he received a concerning text.

“Three days before closing, realtor sends a text saying, ‘Hey, title company can’t find the survey. You’ll have to sign a survey waiver,’” he details. “I replied with, ‘Are you sure you guys have the address correct?’ His response was, ‘I would never let you buy a house if the address had not been established.’”

As more red flags arose, Sean says he decided to drive back to the property. Upon arriving, he says he discovered that the mailbox had the address listed as 942, not 962. After calling the realtor, who confirmed that he already knew about the issue, he brought the issue up to the title company.

“They said, ‘Oh, well, address really doesn’t matter. It comes down to legal description.’ I’m like, ‘OK,’” he shares. “So we trusted in them, which was a huge mistake.”

Things Get Weirder

When it came time to sign all of the paperwork, all of it had been amended to read the correct address. The only exception was the tax documentation; Sean was told, “We’ll have to amend that later.”

Even with these issues, the couple closed on the house, paying in cash. They then adjusted all of their documents again to reflect their new address.

Despite this, they found that they were not receiving mail. When he asked the post office why this was the case, Sean was told that his new home was actually in a different city.

“I’m like, ‘They don’t have the freaking city, right? Are you serious? Address and city wrong?’” he says.

Eventually, Sean says he decided to just look up the county’s BS&A property records.

This revealed an even more confusing development. According to the documentation, they did not actually own the house they were living in—but they did own the house that they accidentally drove to when they first visited. But this documentation also didn’t make sense, as it provided an address that did not line up with the property they allegedly owned.

How Can This Even Happen?

In Sean’s telling, this was the result of a poorly managed sale back in 2021.

According to Sean, a trust owned three neighboring farms. In 2021, the trust tried to sell the middle property to the people who later sold it to Sean. The assessor and title companies attached the wrong legal description to that 2021 transaction, which was then carried forward into his transaction.

While a title defect of this nature would usually be caught during the mortgage lending process, Sean says he paid cash.

Unfortunately, this also seems to have left Sean in a situation where there is little recourse. He says he tried to file a title insurance claim but could not do so, as the company claimed they simply “got the wrong information from the assessor.”

While all this was happening, the authorities got involved, as ownership errors meant property taxes had been applied to the wrong houses/parcels. Even after Sean was told the situation was resolved, he saw the “corrected” version of his property listed it as having 0.000 acres—a sign that things were still not right. Not only that, but due to another issue, it turned out the property may have been paying double what it should have in certain taxes.

As a result of all of this, Sean says he’s missed bills, hurt his credit, and caused him considerable stress. Now, he says he’s going after the licensing agencies and tax authorities of every party involved.

What Can One Even Do In This Situation?

If you’re in a situation like Sean, things might feel pretty hopeless. However, there may be a solution to this issue.

First, it may be possible to fix everything without a lawsuit. If the original trust, neighboring owners, sellers, and anyone with mortgages or liens all agree about what happened, real estate attorneys may be able to correct the record and rebuild the chain of title.

Second, if it’s not possible to resolve things without a lawsuit, he may have to go the legal route. He could sue to reform the deeds and “quiet title,” which allows a person to bring an action to determine competing ownership claims to a property and clear the title. He also may be able to sue others involved in the closing process, as it appears there were several missteps, intentional or unintentional, that led Sean to the situation he’s currently in.

In order to determine the best course of action, someone in Sean’s situation should speak to a lawyer. They will inform you of your rights and the correct way to proceed.

“I was a mortgage lender for over ten years. Left to work for a realtor for three years. Title company and realtor are very much at fault,” shared a user. “Contact the state board on the realtor. Contact your local newspaper and news station. The squeaky wheel gets the oil and they don’t want the bad PR.”

“Retain an Attorney tomorrow. Sue the realtor, their broker and the title company,” offered another.

“As far as I’m concerned, Title insurance compaines are a scam. I have yet to see them help with title issues. They’re answer is ALWAYS, not our fault, we’re not going to cover that,” detailed a third.

Judge Grants Multiple NFL Players Extra Year Of NCAA Eligibility, Despite Some Playing In Preseason Games

A judge has granted numerous former college football players a temporary restraining order allowing them a fifth year of eligibility, despite many attending NFL training camps and some even playing in preseason games. The ruling follows a lawsuit filed by 33 athletes from multiple sports against the NCAA in Louisiana state court on Wednesday.

Among the plaintiffs are 16 football players, including DQ Smith, Jack Pyburn, Trent Hedrick, Junior Tuihalamaka, Dae’Quan Wright, Zxavian Harris, Wydett Williams, and Anthony Hankerson. Several of the players signed with NFL teams and participated in training camps earlier this month. Pyburn, Wright, Williams, and Hankerson are currently listed on NFL rosters.

ESPN reports that, according to attorney Ryan Downton, if their NFL teams release them by Sept. 1, they can join a college roster under the restraining order.

Specifically, the judge’s ruling states that athletes who had “signed a professional contract, or agent contract, or played in a professional sporting event” could not be barred from playing college football by the NCAA. The athletes may do so as long as they terminate those contracts before participating in college games and return any earnings from those contracts.

The NCAA has been fighting lawsuits ever since changing its eligibility rules

“Courts across the country granting relief to ineligible athletes who already had every opportunity to compete in college – sometimes without even having a hearing – are failing to appreciate the destabilizing effect their rulings are having on college sports,” NCAA senior vice president of external affairs Tim Buckley said in a statement. “The lawyers bringing these cases seemingly won’t be satisfied until every professional athlete can treat college sports as a fallback option, regardless of the opportunities it strips from those who will never have a chance to begin their collegiate sports experience.”

The NCAA’s new “age-based” eligibility model has been the subject of several lawsuits.

In July, 11 DI athletes filed a federal class action complaint in Colorado, claiming that the NCAA’s new eligibility regulations have negatively impacted their ability to continue their education and the NIL benefits that come with it.

That same month, an Ohio judge granted a preliminary injunction to 24 men’s and women’s collegiate basketball players, allowing them to continue their college careers and enter the transfer portal after the NCAA found them ineligible.

College sports have officially reached the point where schools are finding new things to monetize faster than the NCAA can finish writing rules allowing them to do it. Central Missouri just signed what is believed to be the first jersey-patch sponsorship in Division II, which would be perfectly normal except for the minor issue that Division II does not currently permit jersey-patch sponsorships.

The University of Central Missouri announced a five-year partnership with Shelter Insurance that will eventually put the company’s logo on the competition uniforms of all 17 Mules and Jennies varsity sports. Industry sources told Extra Points the agreement is worth six figures annually, putting a Division II school in roughly the bottom end of the Division I patch market before its own division has even unlocked the feature.

Central Missouri Sold An Ad Space That Technically Does Not Exist Yet

There is some important fine print here.

The school itself is not pretending the NCAA rule does not exist. UCM Athletics explicitly announced the deal as pending NCAA approval, which is expected to be addressed at the January 2027 NCAA convention. If everything goes according to plan, Shelter patches will begin appearing on Central Missouri uniforms during the 2027-28 school year.

So this is less “Central Missouri has gone rogue” and more “Central Missouri has already rented out an apartment in a building that is still waiting on its occupancy permit.”

Pretty incredible either way.

The five-year agreement is the largest sponsorship deal in UCM Athletics history. Shelter becomes the school’s official auto, home and life insurance partner, while receiving signage and other marketing inventory across the athletic department in addition to the eventual patches.

And because Central Missouri apparently refuses to allow an NCAA rulebook to slow down a perfectly good sponsorship, Shelter is still getting something on the football field this year.

Since the company cannot legally occupy the jerseys yet, the school announced its logo will instead appear on the turf at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field during the 2026-27 season.

You can’t put the ad on the players? Put it underneath them.

Division I Already Got Permission To Turn Jerseys Into Billboards

This entire situation exists because the NCAA’s divisions move independently.

The NCAA approved commercial patches for Division I in January, allowing programs beginning Aug. 1 to add as many as two commercial logos of up to four square inches on uniforms during regular-season competition. Division II was not included in that vote.

Division II began examining its own version this spring. Current rules generally permit a manufacturer’s logo and the name of a competition’s sole title sponsor, while an April NCAA review proposed allowing additional commercial or nonprofit logos in the future.

Central Missouri apparently looked at “in the future” and decided that was close enough to start negotiating.

It is also not some tiny one-sport experiment. The Shelter agreement covers all 17 varsity programs, and Extra Points reports the six-figure annual price would compare favorably with the lower end of the Division I marketplace.

For a Division II athletic department, that is real money.

For college football, it is also a pretty good preview of where all of this is headed.

Division I spent years debating whether commercial logos belonged on uniforms before finally saying yes.

Central Missouri apparently skipped the debate, found a buyer and decided the rule could catch up later.

Demarico Young is the only active deaf player in college football. Fortunately, Simpson College running back reached an agreement with his school of two years that allowed him to withdraw from the transfer portal.

He was initially denied access to his longtime ASL interpreter, which forced him to consider leaving.

In the end, the Division III college football star got what he needed. Young will play for the Storm in 2026!

Demarico Young is deaf.

At 5-foot-5, 160 pounds, Demarico Young hails from Sioux City, Iowa. He starred at North High School as a multi-sport athlete before he began his college football career at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. The Storm competes on the Division III level of NCAA competition. It is a member of the American Rivers Conference.

Not only is Young a phenomenal athlete, he is also an inspiration. The rising junior running back contracted spinal meningitis as an infant, which left him deaf from a very young age. Even if it is a big part of his story, his disability does not define him.

Young had a strong freshman season at Simpson. His sophomore year was even better. He went for 1,019 yards and six touchdowns on 169 carries as the best running back in Division III last season. Defenses cannot bring him down.

There is a lot hype about the Storm in 2026 because of its running back. Young is poised for another strong year.

However, there was a full month where it looked like he was going to play elsewhere.

Simpson College was able to reach an agreement with the running back’s American Sign Language interpreter.

Demarico Young was pulled into meetings with members of the Simpson College administration during the week of July 12. They told him that his longtime interpreter of five years would not longer be allowed to work with him on campus outside of football.

That wasn’t going to work.

It was not feasible for Young’s interpreter to be employed by Simpson only for football. She moved from Nebraska to Indianola to be with him. She could not only work with the football team. And even if it was, Young wanted her to be with him for everything.

“For five years, we built a communication partnership that allowed me to succeed in the classroom, on the football field, in meetings with trainers, coaches and throughout campus life,” Young said at the time. “For deaf students with specialized needs, an interpreter is not typically interchangeable without months, sometimes years of a transition process.”

Therefore, the Storm’s star running back entered the transfer portal. He considered all of his options, spoke with multiple programs all cross the country (some Division I!) and took multiple campus visits.

Meanwhile, he continued to fight for his interpreter at Simpson. And in the end, the school reached an agreement with Young and his interpreter that allowed them both to stay. Demarico Young withdrew from the transfer portal on Aug. 13.

Savannah Richardson of The Simpsonian did a great feature on the process that played out over the last month or so. Young wanted to stay at Simpson but the college forced him to seek a new opportunity elsewhere if he wanted to keep working with his longtime interpreter. He kept pressure on the school. Simpson ultimately gave him what he needed to run it back in 2026.

Florida High School Football Team Loses 7 Players Days Before Kickoff After Dirty Play Sparked Ugly Brawl

Florida high school football players suspended before opener.

Hernando High School will be without up to seven players in its football opener as a result of a preseason brawl with Sunlake. The FHSAA handed down suspensions on Wednesday in response to the scuffle.

That altercation came after back-to-back late hit penalties on the Hernando Leopards. They will be shorthanded when the regular season starts on Friday.

Hernando faced Sunlake in an exhibition contest prior to the start of the regular season. Trailing 15-14, the Seahawks made a push to take the lead.

After advancing the ball inside the 30-yard line, a Hernando late hit drew flags. The Leopards were then penalized for another late hit on the very next play, sparking chaos.

Sunlake brawled with Hernando.

The two schools are separated by about a 45-minute drive. Sunlake plays in Land O’Lakes, part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater region. Hernando High School is in Brooksville, 25 miles up the road.

Things got chippy in the closing moments of their preseason matchup. Tensions boiled over after the series of late hits.

Players from both benches rushed onto the field after the second flag was thrown. A fight erupted near the goal line.

Officials eventually got the situation under control but opted not to move forward with the game. The contest was called in the fourth quarter with Hernando still leading, 15-14.

Leopards head coach Wyndell Alexander had the following to say about the stoppage:

“When (the fight) happened, there was no sense playing. It was getting dirty.”

He added that he did not want the incident to define his team.

On Wednesday, two days before the season opener with Lake Brantley, punishment was handed down. Alexander says that up to seven players will be suspended for the first game.

Sunlake head coach Chris Digiacomo took responsibility for his team’s actions, even if they came in response to unsportsmanlike conduct.

“The incident that occurred Friday night is unfortunate for both teams and certainly does not reflect the ideals that we strive for in our program and at Sunlake High School. Ultimately, we need to take responsibility for our own actions, and we will do so.”

The Seahawks, too, open their regular season on Friday against Central. Digiacomo expects to lose a few contributors for his debut.

Both teams are pushing for a playoff invite.

Each coach is attempting to guide their program to the postseason. Neither has been leading their respective schools long.

Digiacomo is entering his first year with Sunlake. The Seahawks are coming off a 4-6 campaign. They have not produced a winning season since 2016.

Former coach Jay Fulmer was dismissed from the program days before the start of spring camp. Details on that firing remain unclear. Fulmer was entering his fourth season. Digiacomo is now the program’s sixth head coach in eight years.

Alexander, meanwhile, was hired in 2025. The Leopards went 7-4 in his first season. His predecessor, John Scargle, stepped down in May of last year to take a job in Pennsylvania.

Hernando made the Florida high school football playoffs last year but was quickly ousted by Bishop Moore, 61-6. Alexander is hoping for a deeper run this season.

Those playoff pursuits have gotten off to tumultuous starts with the suspensions. Both teams will be shorthanded when they take the field on Friday.

Giants head coach John Harbaugh sat several players, including Winston, for throwing punches during the joint practice.

“In this sort of an environment, you have these rules of engagement that aren’t really rules of the game, and then somebody else goes over the line or they do go over the line and somebody needs to protect somebody and that’s where it goes. And I think as long as it doesn’t get out of control, where it gets a violent-type situation, it’s fine, you know?” Harbaugh said. “And we decided that anybody that threw a punch in those scrimmages would be treated like the game. That’s why Jermaine didn’t practice toward the end. He didn’t really throw a hard punch, but it was to the face mask. And that’ll get you in the game. That’s a 15-yarder at least.”

Giants starting QB Jaxson Dart reacted to the brawl.

“I didn’t see what happened,” Dart said. “I just looked over and saw the red 19 jersey [Winston] and I was like, ‘I gotta go. I gotta go help my boy! I don’t know what’s going on over there.'”

At the end of the day, Harbaugh enjoyed the practice.

“I think we leave the practice a better team than when we came in,” Harbaugh said. “That was our goal.”
