Netflix isn’t new to me, but writing for this website is. I thought creating my own weekly column of what I’m watching on Netflix could spike some interest. I thought that I should give you readers more options when searching through your Netflix account. Maybe I can make your decision a whole lot easier.

I don’t want to try and pick the blockbuster hits that have a wide release, but maybe some movies that the average movie goer wouldn’t otherwise watch.

The first movie on my list was probably one of my favorite movies of 2012. It has all the classic elements of a horror film, and its a laugh out loud comedy. When you combine those elements, you have one of the most original movies of the year. The Cabin In The Woods was written by The Avengers director Joss Whedon, and it’s about five friends who decided to take a break from school and head out to a cabin in the woods. It has predictable horror characters, including the pot smoking comic Marty (played by Fran Kranz) and the arrogant jock (played by Thor’s Chris Hemsworth). If you think that you’ve seen dozens of horror movies like this before, you would be horribly wrong. This isn’t just any cabin in the woods, each character plays a huge part in an even larger role than they could have ever imagine. A role that could change the outlook on the world.

I truly enjoyed watching this movie, and I would easily give this a 3.5 out of 4 stars. I don’t recommend that you watch this with your 10 year olds, but if it’s just you and your girl and you love watching horror movies together than give this a chance. You wont be disappointed.

Summer’s the best time of the year to try new things and experience fantastic firsts. But some people miss out on truly amazing experiences because they let fear get in the way. Years ago, I was that guy. But a bout of FOMO got me out of my comfort zone, and it was honestly the best thing that's ever happened to me.

FOMO, for the uninitiated, is the Fear Of Missing Out. My buddies were doing a guys week in Las Vegas, and they had all kinds of daredevil activities planned. Bungee jumping, racing cars, a helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon, and ziplining in the mountains.

While the thought of plumeting to my death haunted my mind, the thought of missing out on an epic week that my friends would be talking about for years to come was too much for me, so I put on my big boy pants and went all in. And honestly, it was the most fun I've ever had, I'm really glad I went on the trip..

This week’s DVD Tuesday brings us a couple of raunchy movies that aren’t for the faint of heart.. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed both of these movies when they were first released. If you’re on the fence about picking either one of these up, watch the trailers below and decide for yourself!

 

In 21 & Over, straight-laced college student Jeff Chang has always done what’s expected of him. But when his two best friends surprise him with a visit for his 21st birthday, he decides to do the unexpected for a change, even though his critical medical school interview is early the next morning. What was supposed to be one beer becomes one night of chaos, over indulgence and utter debauchery in this outrageous comedy.

You’ve never seen anything quite like Movie 43. The year’s most outrageous and daringly original comedy, featuring the ultimate star-studded cast. No inappropriate storyline is off limits – including a ‘ballsy’ blind date, a middle school ‘period’ piece and more. Please don’t sue us if you die laughing.

So many thoughts running through my head as I watched that video. Not sure I’d be brave enough to trust it with my iPhone, but I’d definitely slap it on every single pair of shoes I owned. And the fact that it can help keep your beers colder for longer periods of time makes it worth whatever it may cost.

I’m pretty sure it won’t roll herpes off, so don’t think about spraying your junk with this stuff.

The 2013 MLB All-Star Game will be played on July 16th at Citi Field in New York. Its a great weekend for not just baseball, but sports in general. Major League Baseball provides an exciting weekend for the fans starting on Friday July 12th with the T-Mobile All-Star FanFest. The festivities continue with an All Star 5K that benefits Hurricane Sandy Relief. On Sunday, the fans get to enjoy the MLB Futures Game and the Legends & Celebrity Softball Game. On Monday, one of the most exciting events of the long weekend include the Home Run Derby, where balls as Chris Berman would say go “back, back, back, Gone!” The Captains have already been chosen as New York’s own David Wright and Robinson Cano will pick their teams and try to become derby champions. Finally on Tuesday July 16th, the National and American League’s best will try to capture home field advantage for the World Series.

The problem with the All-Star Game is this – Are we truly getting baseball’s best and brightest on the field, or are we getting polluted with high profile players who are having weak and dreadful seasons compared to years past? After all, who doesn’t want to see their favorite players in front of national media for all of the world to see? I know that in years past when I am voting, I vote for every single player on my team. I have voted for all of the Phillies – Not because I thought they deserved it, but because I liked them. Recently, I have come to the conclusion that I barely want to see Ryan Howard in a Phillies uniform, so why should he be an All-Star? Fortunately for me, Howard isn’t in the top five in the standings as of June 9th. But we know one representative from each team is going to be on the All Star team. The 21-47 Miami Marlins who are currently 19.5 games out of first place will send a representative to play for home field advantage even though their dreams of the playoffs are essentially done, three months into the season.

So how do we decide who deserves to be our All-Stars, when usually the most popular teams send their players to baseball’s most celebrated event? I don’t have a problem with the Yankees, the Giants and the Red Sox, but to say that they always have the largest percentage of the best players is rather ludicrous. I think that it’s valuable for the fans to give their insight as I am doing here. I believe that the starters should be chosen by a committee of baseballs best writers, just as they do for the Hall of Fame. We should be seeing the best talent out on the field every single year. I think that once the starters are picked, then the fans should be able to voice their opinions. Now my example isn’t a Philly bias, it’s just simple statistics. The leading outfielder in the standings is Atlanta Brave Justin Upton. Upton has 15 home runs and 32 RBI’s with a meager .247 Batting Average. His Brother B.J. Upton is ranked 13th in the standings with a .167 Batting Average and just 16 RBI’s. Phillies outfielder Domonic Brown though has an National League second best 19 home runs and 48 RBI’s and he isn’t even in the top 15 in voting as of June 9th. The leading home run hitting outfielder Carlos Gonzalez is 7th. The Braves, Phillies and Rockies all have a chance to make the playoffs so why wouldn’t their fans want the best player out on the field.

This idea wouldn’t be put into place for another few years, but I think that they could completely change the outlook of the All-Star Game in Major League Baseball. The games would be more competitive and your spending your dollar for the best around.

Go Wild in Alaska’s Frontier

Alaska is as close to the wild west as we are ever going to get in this century. With most of the state still wild and untamed, it is a perfect place for a man to be a man. You can fish for salmon during the Spring or late fall salmon runs in the Copper River. Just dip your fly in the river and pull out a 20lb behemoth. It’s the longest salmon run in the entire world, so if you are going to fish, do it here.

You can also hike Mt. McKinley, North America’s tallest mountain, and tour the entire state on the Alaskan railroad, 500 miles long through the state’s most rugged terrain, including an eye-popping suspension bridge 254 feet over white-water rapids.

Test your Courage at the Roman Coliseum

Stand in the very place where gladiators battled to the death under the Roman Empire, swung blades at hungry lions, and were subsequently torn apart. What could be more manly? There is one thing, perhaps. The Hilton Cavalieri Hotel’s gladiator experience is fairly close to the real thing (minus the lions and fighting to the death, of course). You’ll train like a gladiator for a day, learn their fighting and defense techniques, and basically just feel really cool.
