Hi Everyone,
It is finally here, summertime. Classes have come to an end and now the time is ours. We can forget about waking up early and scheduling ourselves for club meetings and other adventures and just sit back and relax. This is the time for us to spend with our friends and family while creating memories that will last us a lifetime. This past year was great while it lasted and I hope that next year is even better.
Thanks for following me on my journey,

      Hey again readers,

The last time I wrote I filled you all in on my amazing trip to London and promised to tell you about the rest of that trip to Paris. Well its next time and I have a lot to tell. We woke up extremely early so that we could catch the Eurostar train to Paris. Once we got off the train we walked to our tour bus and headed to the Ibis Hotel. We were spoiled in London because we shared the same language so it made traveling in Paris an adventure because of the language barrier. When we got to the hotel we dropped off our bags and then headed back out for our first excursion. We walked over to the train station and those of us who were quick enough boarded the train. I say "those who were quick enough" because the conductor gets ready for take-off no matter who gets left behind or squished in the doors.

Our first tour was at the Louvre Museum. The Louvre is the world's largest museum and it is well-known for housing the Mona Lisa. We then headed to a restaurant for our first taste of French cuisine. We were offered a duck dinner but after the bad dinners in London I wasn't feeling adventurous so I opted out and had a vegetarian meal. Unfortunately I made a mistake because the vegetarian meal was noodles and canned vegetables.

After our dinner we headed over to see the Eiffel Tower and we went on a Parisian River Cruise. Since we went later in the night the Eiffel Tower was lit up and it was prettier than I could have ever imagined. Before we loaded the boat for our cruise a bunch of us bought crepes that smelt delicious so we couldn't resist. I had a banana and Nutella crepe that was not served with a smile. While buying my crepe I experienced my first rude Parisian. I wasn't going to let him ruin my night so I brushed it off and boarded the boat.

The River cruise was exactly what we needed to end our night it was a cool breezy night and the cruise was just long enough for us to relax and take in the scenery. We headed to our hotel and hit the sheets so that we could be up early for our last day on our mini study abroad.

We hopped on our bus and headed to the Palace of Versailles. The Palace of Versailles was my favorite part of visiting Paris because it was a gorgeous and interesting site. This was the home of Queen Marie Antoinette. While touring each part of the palace our guide for the day told us all of the amazing stories that accompanied each room. After touring the palace we loaded our tour bus and headed to Notre Dame Cathedral. Notre Dame is a beautiful church that was displayed as if it were a museum. My favorite part of visiting the cathedral was the amazing architecture.

When we were done touring Notre Dame a few of us headed a few blocks down to go shopping and to get some dinner. We ate at this French restaurant which had by far the best food I've had on the trip. We began our meal with escargot which was surprisingly really good. I wasn't sure when I would get the opportunity to be an adventurous eater again so I put my thoughts behind me and just ate it.

I absolutely loved my trip to London and Paris and would encourage every one of you to dream big. I didn't think that a trip abroad would be possible until I set my mind to it and worked hard. I can now cross it off of my bucket list and enjoy all of the wonderful memories and friendships that I made.

Thanks for following me on my journey,
Alysia

      Hi Everyone!

It's been a long time since my last post so we have some catching up to do, it is crazy how fast time flies. If you're new to my blog I'll give you a brief intro. I am a junior business management major, the president of Student Government, an orientation leader, and on my free time I like to dance since my schedule couldn't fit the dance team this year. I'm extremely outgoing and friendly so if you see me around campus, so don't be afraid to say hi.

I know spring break is over but I'd really love to tell you a little about my winter break. I participated in a mini study-abroad trip to London and Paris so here is my trip in a nutshell. After a long plane ride from Philadelphia we finally arrived in London, England! To avoid a horrible case of jet lag, we dropped our bags at the hotel and immediately embarked on a train ride (or as the British say "a tube ride") and a walking tour of London. We explored Westminster abbey, Trafalgar square, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Embankment, and many more exciting places.

On day 2 we boarded the bus and headed to Windsor Castle. Windsor castle is the home of Queen Elizabeth, as well as a tourist spot. The rooms were just as I had imagined, large and well decorated with expensive decor. Visiting Windsor Castle was a great experience but our day was barely finished. After our adventure in the castle we enjoyed a lunch right outside the castle grounds and boarded the bus for a London bus tour with photo stops. I was grateful for this part of the day because I was exhausted and the weather wasn't in our favor. Our stops included Buckingham Palace, which is the place where Prince William and Princess Kate had their traditional kiss on the balcony. After seeing all that the Palace had to offer a group of us headed back to Covent Garden's to enjoy the night life.

On day 3 we visited Stonehenge and the Roman Baths. Our walk around Stonehenge took about an hour or 40 minutes for those of us who basically ran through to avoid the bitter cold. Then we loaded the bus and headed to Bath, a beautiful city in which the Romans created a thermal spa in honor of the goddess Minerva.

Day 4 was by far my favorite because it was NEW YEARS EVE! We began our day with our usual breakfast and then headed out for a trip to the Tower of London, which is best known for housing the crown jewels. After taking in the beautiful jewels we went to the British museum to see the beautiful works of art.

Spending New Year's Eve in another country was an amazing experience. A small group of us headed to Covent Garden's to ring in the New Year. We waited for the clock to strike midnight and when it did we weren't disappointed.
Day 5 was a free day so I, being a typical girl, decided to go shopping. This was our last day in London but my trip was far from over. We still had a whole new country to explore, France! Stay tuned to hear about our voyage in Paris.
Until next time,
Alysia

Stress can come from a multitude of different places. Class can stress you out, activities, life back home, and sometimes even your friends and family. I know this from experience and I have a few tips to share with you so that you can overcome your stresses. Acknowledging it is the first step so that you can figure out the best process to calm your nerves and move on to bigger and better things. I like to solve my issues before kicking my feet up and relaxing, so I dive head on and try to tackle them.

My stresses don't always come from too much homework and being a poor college student like many may think. Currently my stresses are coming from there not being enough time in the day. I am a student leader and many of you may think I just go to classes and the occasional Student Government meeting, but no I do so much more. A typical day for me consists of waking up around 8AM, going to my classes around 9AM and classes go straight through to 1PM or 2PM in the afternoon. From there I head to my work study in the Student Services office. My job consists of answering the phone, assisting anyone who needs me, and running around campus to deliver papers or post flyers. After work I head up to the Student Activities Office and try to get some things down for Student Government. This can include answering emails, scheduling meetings, planning events, and overseeing my fellow members. So do you see how my day can get hectic in a flash?

In days like this I try to surround myself around people who can keep me grounded. I have made so many friends here at GMC who are capable of relaxing me while still keeping me on track. For instance, after a busy homecoming weekend, Ashlei Miller and I are spending the day catching up on our studies and trying to check some things off of our to-do list. The final tip that I would like to leave you with is to take a break and have some fun. My favorite stress reliever is dancing, which made the homecoming dance the perfect place to let loose! I went with a group of my closest friends, danced to the music I love, and made memories that I will never forget! Now that you know how I handle my stresses I hope that you can all handle yours.

Good Luck and don't forget to dance,
Alysia

      Hey Everyone!!!
It's finally summertime, which for me means no more classes, a ton of beach trips, and fun by the pool with my friends! This week we've had our second heat wave in the Philadelphia area so naturally I've been in the pool or in an air conditioned Movie Theater to escape the sticky weather. Aside from lounging by the water and dodging the heat, I've been spending a lot of my time on campus. You can definitely tell its summer time at GMC because many of our students choose to take this time off to relax or work, so there are fewer people walking around. Luckily I managed to do a little bit of both; I worked on campus for almost half of the summer and the other half is all mine to do as I please.

Although I spend a lot of my time with my friends, I am still a student as well as the President of Student Government and an Orientation Leader. This means that I have to attend many meetings and trainings to plan for the upcoming school year. So far I've bonded with my fellow Orientation Leaders and learned the basics of orienteering as well as the basics of being a part of SGA's Executive Council. We are also in the process of planning our student events during Homecoming weekend and I am very excited for our students to enjoy it.

Hope you're having a fun summer,
Alysia

      Hi readers!
It's been a few weeks since my last post so we have some catching up to do. In my last post I spoke about making decisions. Looks like my decision making skills paid off because I was elected President of the Student Government Association and I was accepted to be an Orientation Leader. I'm still waiting for the results of my Dance team captain interview so fingers crossed. I worked hard to get to where I am today and I am doing exceptionally well. This just goes to show that hard work really does pay off.

On another note I have some end of the year advice for all of you. As the year is winding down your schedule may get hectic. Generally papers are becoming due, finals are coming up, and you may have social events planned. My advice to you is to plan accordingly to avoid the stress. Speaking from experience, waiting last minute to study or write a paper is nothing but frustrating. You can lose sleep and your grade can reflect on your procrastination. If you get your work done in a timely manner it will pay off in the end because you can get your work done and still have time for yourself.

Before I sign off I want to leave you all with some words of wisdom.

In times of great stress or adversity, it's always best to keep busy, to plow your anger and your energy into something positive- Lee Iacocca

Until next time,
Alysia

Whether you're a high school student, college student, or you're already out in the real world making decisions can be difficult. As a child the biggest decision is what toy to play with, as a teen it's what to do on a Friday night, but when you're in college you're branching off on your own and you need to do what's best for you. Challenging questions arise such as: Should I write my paper or go out with my friends? Should I go to work or sleep in? It's a tough world and we just have to relax and think about what's best for our future.

These upcoming weeks I am going to have to make many decisions to bring my "future into focus." I have been highly encouraged to run for president of student government and I had hoped to be captain for the dance team again. With that being said I have to decide if I want to run for one position or take on a heavier load and run for both. I also want to apply to be an orientation leader so that I can give new students the great experience that was given to me when I was in their position. I believe that I can handle all that is given to me and I know that I will choose the right path to a brighter future.

Decisions make a big impact on our lives so my advice to you is to seek help. This can be a stressful process and the guidance you receive from others can make all of the difference. I find comfort and guidance in my parents. They are strong, caring, and they know me more than I know myself. Their encouragement and support helps my decision making process much easier. I hope that my story and advice helps you make easy decisions and brings your future into focus.

Here it is my very first post! My name is Alysia Torres and I am in my sophomore year here at Gwynedd-Mercy College. I'm a Business Management major, a dance team captain, a leader on Student Government, and I'm here to show all of you what college life is all about. Follow my blog to get to know the real me and to gain some knowledge about everything associated with Gwynedd-Mercy College.

I've already gotten into the flow of my second semester. I'm preparing for a study abroad to London & Paris next year, the dance team keeps me on my toes, and I've just returned from SGA's leadership training in Sea Isle, NJ. As you can see I am a very well-rounded student. Being a member of a club not only introduces you to new things and new people, but it also educates you and makes you a part of something big. When I started here as I freshman I wasn't sure if I wanted to join anything because I was nervous, but after thinking it through and overcoming my fears I have no regrets. I was chosen as a captain for the dance team, and I'm running for a higher position in SGA. This just goes to show that if you overcome your fears you can gain strength, courage, confidence, and leadership positions.

One thing that has helped me overcome my fears and gotten me through my ups and downs is my family. I have two loving parents Monica & Joe, who have just celebrated their 25th anniversary. I am also one of three; I have a brother named Joe and a sister named Jenn. I have looked up to my family and I am known to follow in their footsteps. My parents are business owners and like them I wish to own a restaurant. I look up to my brother and sister because they are strong, smart, and loving. My family has made me who I am today and with the help of them and my Gwynedd family I will accomplish many things.
