Hello Everyone,

I apologize for not posting a blog in a while. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer as much as I have. It started off rough, but things have come around and I could not be happier.

After packing my things and moving out of the residence halls, I came home to Northeast Philadelpha. I spent the month of May searching for a new job for the summer. I applied to various gyms in my area since I want to eventually work in the fitness and sports field. Even though I was not yet offered a job, I did not give up hope.

During the second week of June, I received a message from a friend recommending that I join her as a camp counselor at the YMCA in Northeast Philadelphia. I immediately responded to her letting her know that I am completely interested. The YMCA is a gym and local community center that specializes in youth and family development. This is exactly the type of job that I've been hoping for.

So now I spend my days during the week at the YMCA as a camp counselor. On a daily basis I am helping coordinate games and activities, as well as monitor the campers as they go about their day. As much as I am teaching and helping the children, I am equally learning things from them. Children teach you a lot nowadays.

As I became more familiar with the staff, I eventually was able to talk about my future hopes and dreams of working in the fitness field. One of the staff members approached me and told me about a strength and conditioning course being offerred near West Chester University the end of July. By participating in this course, I am coming closer to my dream of becoming a personal trainer.

From the other camp counselors to the general staff, meeting everyone at the YMCA has helped make this experience unforgetable. I am so grateful for this opportunity. I'm very excited to see where all of this is going to lead me.

Oh yeah, can't forget to tell you this. I took several driving lessons and passed my driver's test on the first time. I am finally a licensed driver at the age of 20. It feels great to be able to drive and be on your own.

So now maybe you'll see me driving around campus. Take care everyone and enjoy the rest of your summer.

I didn't think kids in college still received baskets on Easter morning? Sweet!

This place right here is my stress reliever, but above all one of my main support systems. This is the cardio room located in the Griffin Complex at Gwynedd-Mercy College. This is the one place where I am able to get away and focus on myself. Going to the gym has become a part of my daily routine. When you're at the gym, nothing negative is going on, just a positive experience to fuel your body. I feel that my day doesn't begin until I've had my time in the cardio room.

Let's rewind this story and go back a little while. It was during my first semester on campus, the fall of 2010, that I realized I needed a change. When January 1, 2011 hit, I told myself that I want to lose weight and that I will stick to it. And I did, after many ups and downs, I successfully lost over 45 lbs through the course of a year. It's the greatest feeling when others recognize me for my dedicaiton and determination. I am now doing things that I could never do before. I now feel that I am able to serve as a model for those who are struggling to live a more active lifestyle.

After revamping my life, I have a clearer vision of what I want to do in the future. I want to help people become more active. I want people to experience the journey that I've been through. I am currently pursuing a Business Administration Degree, concentrating on Sports Management. After my time at Gwynedd-Mercy, I hope to get my degree in Personal Training, Exercise Physiology, and Nutrition. It's not a perfect picture yet, but hopefully I am able to come across a career that makes it all worth it.

I even tend to say to myself, "the people who pass by the gym everyday must be starting to get sick of seeing my face all the time."

<![CDATA[Alternative Spring Break, more commonly known as ASB, is a week long experience of volunteering and deepening your appreciation of life. This past week was Gwynedd-Mercy's Spring Break. Instead of being at home, I spent my week in New York City with a group of great people. This was my second Alternative Spring Break (Team Cincinnati 2011!!!).

Our chaperones Campus Chaplain, Father John Collins and Director of Mercy Volunteer Corp, Marian Uba led a group of six students to Brooklyn, New York for the week. While in New York City, why not do as the New Yorkers do? Our first day in the city was spent having fun. From walking through Central Park to exploring Times Square, Manhattan, it is safe to say each of us had our share of the Big Apple.

The rest of the week was spent driving (or you could say bumping and jumping) through various parts of Brooklyn and then to the Bronx. The mornings of our days were spent at the Maura Clarke - Ita Ford Center in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. The mission of the Maura Clarke - Ita Ford Center is to provide opportunities for developing self esteem, individual growth, and educational learning skills that will enable women to claim and realize their own potential. From sampling foods from countries around the world to teaching Spanish natives the English language, our time spent there definitely made a lasting impression. As the afternoons snuck up on us, we would make our way along FDR Drive to the 145th Street of the Bronx. In the Bronx, we were always welcomed by the staff and volunteers at the Mercy Center. The Mercy Center is a community center in the Mott Haven seciton of the Bronx for women and their families, offering programs and services to empower women to come to self-actualization. At the Mercy Center, we sat through an orientation and than were immediately put into a setting with grade schoolers ranging from grades kindergarten through eighth. Each day there was a set schedule of relaxing and enjoying a snack, homework time, and than unwinding and playing a game or activity. I had the opportunity to spend my time with seventh and eighth graders. I was extremely nervous at first, but as the week went on, I became familiar with the environment and started to make new friends.

After many early risings and being on the go all day, I look back and think that I've made the right decision.

If there is not one thing I cannot stress more, it is to get involved. It allows you to experience college in a different way. From clubs concerning activities and education to Campus Ministry, Gwynedd-Mercy offers a wide range of organizations to get involved with. When you develop a sense of involvement it will become easier for you to meet new people, and become accustomed to the everyday life on campus.

For me, I could not wait to come to college and involve myself. I did not involve myself during high school, which I quickly found out was not good. Involving myself with Gwynedd-Mercy was one of the best choices I've made in my life. When you join clubs and different organizations, so many opportunities begin to present themselves. Through my involvement, I have grown as a person, both mentally and spiritually. By making your face known on campus, I promise you that you will enjoy your time more here at Gwynedd-Mercy College.

I'm very excited to start blogging and sharing my experiences with everyone. Cheers to my first blog!

It seemed like it was yesterday when I was in the car driving back to Gwynedd-Mercy to start the 2012 spring semester. The month flew by. When you involve yourself with the right clubs and organizations on campus, time can't help but fly by. Involvement has been the key to my success here on campus. As a resident of the residence halls, I am better able to juggle classes, going to the gym, working, and various club meetings. I feel better knowing that I am able to do all of this within walking distance of my dorm room.

I do not want to bore you with the standard introductory rant about my life here on campus. That would be boring. I understand you're here to read about what goes on behind the scenes as a resident student. I am going to hold the phone and end this blog as if it were a cliffhanger. This blog shall be continued.......
