Lemonade, The Lighthouse, And The Drawbridge

GypsyOwl's 40 Day Journey continues to be an experience of faith and renewal. A time to learn about myself and the world around me. A time of contemplation and learning to trust in a power who often times feels just out of reach.

Sometimes I would feel God wasn't really interested in my life. Partly because I often felt my life was so ordinary and perhaps I felt there were surely better things for Him to be doing in the world.

The truth couldn't be farther from my thinking. The truth is God is interested in my life and those of each of His children in more ways than I will ever comprehend. He truly loves and cares for us and He has set into motion a life of joy and challenge. Challenge can help us grow and each measure of challenge is balanced with the same measure of joy as long as we allow it.

Lemonade
There is a saying I am not sure anymore who to attribute it to which says "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade" and I believe this is true as well as symbolical for understanding balance. The lemonade is a symbol of adapting as well as balance. It is true we should learn to adapt to the world around us... this is an attribute which we need to survive the winds of change. However, what happens when we take that too far can be disastrous.

You may recall a story about Hellen Keller which I am reminded of this morning. The deaf girl's family adapted to her disability. They began to give her everything she wanted or what they perceived she wanted to the point she was a spoiled and frustrated child. When the new teacher arrived, the deaf girl was given a lesson in discipline which required her to learn, and to do for herself that which she could do or could be taught.

In short, The teacher taught her how to make a good, meaningful, and joyful cup of lemonade with the lemons she had received. The parents, however well meaning, had only taught her the bitter side of the challenge. The teacher taught her how to balance the challenge with joy and showed her the skills she would need to allow this joy to live in balance with the same measure of challenge.

The Lighthouse
We all could use a little guidance now and then when the waves are crashing against the rocks and the world seems to be pressing us with decisions to make regarding our path in life. So where do we find this wisdom we need to learn to balance our lives with challenge as well as joy? The bible says:

"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God,

who gives generously to all without finding fault,

and it will be given to you.

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt,

because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea,

blown and tossed by the wind."

James 1:5, 6 (NIV)

When we are looking for wisdom and guidance we will be given the answers generously when we ask believing our prayers are answered. To be honest, doubt will make its way into my thinking. I will begin to doubt if the guidance I am feeling is God or is it me.

I recall a discussion I was having (with myself and God) while driving which went a little bit like this... "When I think you are showing me wisdom how do I know it is really you?" and I felt the answer:

"Think about how the answer you think I'm telling you would balance, or not balance, the measure of challenge and joy in your life as well as the life of others."

This answer was something to ponder. I believe as I learn how to use that answer in situations I will come to have discernment and with a bit more confidence. The Bible says:

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart

and lean not on your own understanding;

⁶

in all your ways submit to him,

and he will make your paths straight."

Proverbs 3:5,6

The Drawbridge

When the ships coming through the harbor are too tall to pass under the bridge the bridge will adapt by drawing open. The motorist traffic on the bridge is temporarily detained while the large ship makes its way past the bridge. This is a challenge and a joy for everyone who takes the time to see the balance.

The challenge for the motorists is waiting for the larger ship to maneuver under the bridge. The joy for the motorists is they might have a few moments in their busy day when they have no choice but to stop and wait and perhaps this moment of waiting gives them an opportunity to think of something they wouldn't have noticed during the hustle and bustle of day to day busy-ness.

The challenge for the ship is to maneuver past the bridge's structure. Even with the well designed drawbridge construction there are sure to be obstacles which if not taken into consideration could make the ship's effort problematic. The joy, measure for measure, for the ship and her crew is to accomplish the task and be able to relax until the next challenge presents itself.

The Swim Suit, The Swimming Pool, and The Scenic Route

I am discovering how each stop on the journey seems to tie itself to the next... even when no one knows what is next on the journey. It becomes more and more clear God has his plan under way and the journey has been planned, provided, and awaits to be discovered.

I was listening to the radio on the way to Michigan and I heard several songs which touched my heart deeply. One of them was "Where I Belong" by Building 429 (see it below).

The Swim Suit

I haven’t shopped for a swimming suit in as long as I can remember. I think the primary reason was I could never choose a style that would look right on me (I think I was finding the suit designed for people who would look good in anything) and another reason is when I did buy a suit and got it home I would only wear it once (and never outside of the house).

Of course I would tell myself I never swim anyway so who needs a suit. If I want to get in the water (for whatever reason) I would likely just roll up my pants and dip my feet into the water for a minute.

I believe it was not a coincidence there were two swim suits that day. I was so amazed when I tried one on and it was a great fit, I felt it made me look ok as well. While other suits would have been ok for a minute this one was actually going to be worn outside.

The Swimming Pool

Several days later, at another point in the journey, a swimming pool was materializing. There was much work to be done before it would be ready and I wasn’t sure if it would be ready to swim in before I was scheduled to leave.

Turns out it was ready a day or so before I was leaving and I had a brand new swim suit to wear. I was able to go swimming with my granddaughters and had a great time. I was mindful about how magical it was I had the suit before the swimming opportunity materialized.

The Scenic Route

Yes, sometimes a five hour drive will take me twelve to accomplish. Partly because of miscalculation and partly because I become distracted by the sights along the way, yet, it can be accomplished by persistence and patience. At the end of the day (even if it is midnight) you can accomplish anything you have set your mind to doing.

When I started the drive on day 11 I thought I was in for a five hour drive. I told my hostess what time I expected to arrive and without double checking I started the drive. At a point about an hour from starting, I rechecked my directions against the atlas and the maps, and changed my mind about a primary road on the path. This minor change (or so it seemed at the time) added an additional three hours to the drive. Not to mention I was about four hours off from the start. So what should have been a dinner time arrival ended up being a bit after midnight.

I think the moral for the day was to remember this… even when we take the scenic route (which is often more enjoyable overall) we may be off the ‘path’ we were guided to take, but, we still end up right where we are meant to be and the experience will have been enhanced by our curiosity and distractibility.

So, it is ok if a five hour drive takes us twelve… we will always be right where we are supposed to be at exactly the time we are suppose to be there.

No Time For Tears -- Until We Meet The Sea

There have been tears. Most of them have been while driving. I often talk to myself and to God when I am driving and what better time to contemplate the events of the past few weeks? There have been 2001 miles of discussions with myself.

I might have sat with these feelings in a different way. I think the reason this 40 Day Journey is important is so I can take my time with them. Not sit on the couch in front of the television watching sad movies (tho' that kind of approach can be a great release)... I felt I needed a more proactive approach to sort through the changes and fully evaluate what choices to make here on out.

There is still that lingering thought " ... I am not lovable or worthy of a committed relationship" which creeps in at odd and unexpected moments. There are still echos of hearing "... since we are not a couple anymore" from someone who I have been committed to in sickness and in health, richer or poorer. I will not deny the feelings, but, I will ask that they engage in this journey before jumping to a decision.

I know when I am sitting on the beach and listening to the waves while the seagulls fly into the sunset I will have a better grasp of who I am now. Who I am becoming. Where to go next. That question 'Where will the next chapter of my life unfold?' will be answered and I will know.

Faith, The Umbrella, and Lavender Bath Salt

Crossing many bridges on the '40 Day Journey' as I find my way to the place where I will make a decision about my future. There are many times along the way when I have felt there is no way for me to see what lies ahead. Then I ponder the fact there are so many bridges in my path and I know God has a plan for me much bigger than I could ever imagine alone.

This journey reveals small clues along the way. I realize from previous experience the 'ideas' I have may only be a way to keep me from being distracted. This time is for self discovery. Later I will have plenty of choices to make regarding where to go from here.

The major reason, I am finding, for this time of waiting (the 40 Day Journey) is to find out more about myself and my relationship with life. So my decision later isn't driven by fear or by resentment. I need to completely let go of the past in order to make room for the future to unfold.

Faith
While I may not have any idea where this journey will take me... I am growing in faith and know where ever I am God is with me. And more so when things are most challenging. He will grow closer as much as I need and allow him to.

The Umbrella
There may have been rain in the forecast, but, I wasn't aware of it. Only hours after I was gifted the umbrella the rain began to fall. The gift was more than just am umbrella. It was a gesture of protection. The kind of caring God shows for us when preparing us for challenges. The umbrella will keep me dry when the rain falls and is a symbol of a protection I can count on no matter what is going on in my life I have a guardian watching the forecast and looking out for me.

Lavender Bath Salt
Relaxation comes from creating with a friend and then enjoying the creations...especially when we are talking about making bath salt. We created some amazing memories as well as bath salts and we each can enjoy them again and again.

Sharing this experience brought us joy and we will remember it for a long time. We created relaxation. This is a good reminder whenever we are stressed. Step back and take care of yourself. The challenges will be less stressful when we are well rested and relaxed. If you find yourself tempted to make a choice under stress then step back and wait (unless you are in immediate danger). If the decision can wait, then, wait until you relax and rest. Making decisions when calm will ensure you have taken the time to evaluate all of the perspectives and angles.

The Hat, The Camera, And The Journey Poem

Seven days on the journey across the country and I'm stopping to say hello to everyone who is following along this journey of magic and blessings. There have been so many blessings I am unable to share them all on the blog...but you can be sure I will go into more details about every aspect of the miracles unfolding in the book (more about that later).

The Hat:
Athens GA was a remarkable stop on my journey. My hostess made my stay better than I could have had in the finest B&B in the south. The tours, meals, chats on the back porch, and the friendship that blossomed in the 24 hours of my stay will stay with me for a lifetime.

One of the gifts (of many many blessings seen and unseen) was a cheerful hat. The kind of hat you would wear on a summer day at the beach. I fell in love with it immediately. The only thing was it seemed a bit snug, but, I thought I could 'make it fit' by taking my braid down. So I waited until along the drive to my next stop to try that out. It was still small. I thought it would be one of the first pieces in my new home (as decor and a reminder of my visit in GA).

However... At my next stop I would immediately know who the hat was for.

The Camera:
I drove up to the house and saw my friend and her daughter standing waiting to greet me. The small child (about three years old) was such an angel. My first instinct was to reach over for the hat (which had rode on the passenger's seat the whole way) and ask the little girl if she liked hats. Her eyes lit up and she put the hat on. Perfect fit!

The visit included good food, journeys to explore the beach by moonlight, long talks, great place to sleep, then breakfast on the beach. In what seemed like only a few hours I had "met" another kindred spirit and would keep the experience close to my heart for years and years to come.

As I was getting ready to move on to the next place on the journey, my hostess presented me with a camera. This treasure will be playing a huge role throughout the journey as well as in my work after I land.

The Journey Poem:
The speedometer said 1500 Miles and my body said... I'm grateful to stop and rest again. The people I would meet over the next few days (including my hostess and her family) will be not only a part of my life for years to come but will always hold a special place in my heart.

My hostess had arranged several events for us to go to together. All have been amazing and I have met many many people who have each blessed my life in significant ways. It is a bit like opening a book and reading a story with each step fitting exactly with the next chapter. Each paragraph carefully crafted...but none of the people having been given the chapter before or after.

God is writing this book, and each person who has entered into the scope of the journey has been a part of the big picture in amazing ways. Each one having been prepared long ahead of time to be just the right person to place this piece or that piece into the puzzle. Which brings us to the poem...

I met Nancy Vinson for the first time on Sunday night and at 1pm on Monday she arrived at a lunch she learned about as we were leaving the church on Sunday night. The seat beside me was empty after we were being seated for lunch. She presented me with the poem which line by line described the very essence of the journey I am on.

I knew at once this is the introduction for the book. And I will be forever grateful she is in my life and am honored to have this loving gift from her as it will be the best first page, of the book which will show anyone who is seeking a way to take a leap of faith how my experience became proof of serendipity and love.

On your mark...Get set... GO!

The cross country road trip begins. There is a sense of anxiousness which seems to tighten my chest and I'm holding my teeth clenched as if I'm biting down on a leather belt getting ready for surgery without anesthesia.

Aside from those and numerous other feelings...

I realize it is time to let go. Make a decision to keep my mind clear and my eyes on the road. Try to hear and see what this journey has in store. What is the Universe going to share with me? What will God be guiding me to next?

The last checklist is nearly completed and half of the trip is sponsored (there will be plenty of time to coordinate more sponsors when the time comes).

Everything will work out.

I have learned there are still some things I am 'attached' to in this life and I have learned why there is no reason to be. The past two weeks have taught me, reminded me, of this truth...

Everything I need will be right where it is needed at exactly the right time. I can let go of it now and it will materialize again later down the road right when I need it.

All I need to do now is turn the key...

How would you answer this question?

While you are here... what would you like to see?

I hadn't begun to imagine how much there is to see. I was focused on packing, planning, mapping, preparing the transportation. So, I didn't realize how much there will be 'available' to see.

What would interest you? Architecture, nature, gardens, art, sports, entertainment, or something else?

As this question rolls around in my head I think of several people (on television) who travel around and focus on one or two things. I will be taking pictures.

When we pray believing we can move mountains. When we look at birds and how they are fed, how they make nests for their children... we begin to gain the belief. Believing is key to this process. How do we achieve a level of belief that will gain us this divine grace?
Well...
This is actually the good news.
Because when we have a difficult time grasping faith we are give this promise...

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

The conclusion is this...
God believes we are valuable. His love, grace, guidance, and wisdom is free for the asking.

He has also given us a promise that we can speak a shift into our lives and nothing will be impossible.

When God Prepares The Way

Changes in my life, which could have the potential to break me, have instead taken on an opportunity to take a journey.

On Saturday I began planning that journey. What is keeping me balanced is knowing God is here and holding my hand and will carry me through. I have noticed so many preparations. Blessings which have been set into place to assist me.

I know I wouldn't have the strength to work my way through this without God's help and even still He has set a path with blessings I wouldn't have even imagined. Well... more about that later.

Over the next couple of months I am confident more will be revealed and I will share about it.

I remember listening to an audio tape years ago. The speaker mentioned this quote (I do not remember her name or what the talk was about -- yet I have been reminded of this quote many times over the years). The quote was:

"Remember that everyone you meet is afraid of something, loves something and has lost something" by H. Jackson Brown Jr.

Missing You Songs is something I created four weeks in advance of needing it. Reminding me God is preparing what we need ahead of time. Giving us strength and reminding us we are not alone. This is what I learned...

I received a very kind comment from a friend today and I stopped and read that lens again.

Reading what I wrote four weeks ago (on a page dedicated to my Dad who passed away six years ago) I was reminded there is LIGHT at the end of the tunnel and even the darkest days will be replaced with sunshine in due time.

This isn't the first time I have lost something... but it may be the first time I have completely surrendered the burden of it all to GOD so soon and I have decided to listen minute by minute for HIM to guide me.

God Knows What We Need -- HIS Plan is Always On Time

One day I was deep in prayer wondering where I would get my next meal. But I had faith and I heard (rather FELT) something tugging me to "go this way"

So I started walking. I noticed how strong my shoes were then and Thanked God I had them to get me where I needed to be. As I walked I remember saying out loud several times "where are we going?" , "are we there yet?"

I found myself about 4 miles from home and saw a Blood Bank. AWE I get it... give blood, have a few bucks, buy food. OK Help me through it LORD I'm really afraid of needles.

The lady at the counter said

"I'm sorry Miss,

You can not give blood unless you have eaten today"

I was sure GOD wanted me to do this. I even tried to talk her out of a loan for the snack machine so I could eat something. She said "I would but that isn't going to be enough to qualify you... you need to eat a real meal first"

I'm confused by this point but realize I have not listened carefully before so maybe I have missed something?

I started walking home the whole way asking "was I suppose to turn here or there?"

When I got home, within minutes, a knock at the door. It was my friend Mary. "Oh Deb, I am so glad you are here. I made this German stew and there is so much of it I needed to bring some to you. I always make such a big batch. Would you like it? I guess I should have called first."

Wow...
By this time I'm thinking God just wanted me to go for a walk with Him just for the sake of the walk. Boy that stew was the most delicious I have ever had!

Later that night...
I went to a support group meeting (for Alcoholics in Recovery -- which I have been a sober member of for 18 years)

A tall young gentleman (who was barely skin and bones) walked up to me and hugged me and said "I am so grateful you talked to me this morning. Today is my first day sober. I was at the blood bank to get money for booze and they turned me away. After that -- when I was sitting in the waiting area trying to scheme my next drink, you came in and they turned you away.

When you were looking for money to get a snack, I asked you about that odd looking coin in your pocket -- you told me about this meeting. This day had turned out a lot different than it was going to"

I try to remember this story when ever I think I know where my daily bread will come from. Will it be from this client or that one? Will it be from this project or that one? Will so and so pay what they owe, will I get a new client? On and ON

The bottom line is I just need to take those walks and talk with HIM.

HE will provide just what we need in the way HE has planned.

We just need to do the footwork,

Make a Decision to REJOICE

The word REJOICE is written in many scriptures. Many times the message is clearly a directive.

Do THIS.

Other times it is a sentiment expressing how an experience felt.

THIS is so awesome we are going to REJOICE!

Still other times, it is a statement of faith over circumstance. In other words...

I may not be really feeling it right now, Dear LORD but, I'm going to REJOICE in YOU, no matter what is going on here in my life.

Here is one of the 'directive verses' telling us 'when' to rejoice.

LEVITICUS 23 :40 And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall REJOICE before the LORD your God seven days.

(spoken to Moses"Concerning the feasts of the LORD")

There are at least 194 passages in the BIBLE that say REJOICE (<<---- click on the link to see 194 scriptures) can you find the ones that are:

Directive,
Experience,
Faith (in spite of experience).

I believe each of us has several of each kind of rejoicing in our lifetimes. The more challenging one is the 'faith' kind.

How do we rejoice when circumstances are challenging?

When our circumstances are not what you would normally see as a time to rejoice we must make a decision to do so in spite of our circumstance.

We might need encouragement from our friends during this time. We might need to recall when we saw someone expressing faith even in the face of adversity. Do you know anyone who has ever done this?

We can always speak with God. Ask for guidance.
Express our challenge and give it to HIM to help us with it.
Sometimes we need to recall our previous challenges, how we overcame them and become inspired again.

Don't let yourself be fooled by thoughts that you have "always" had this challenge.

You may have had similar situations (and it might seem like you have returned -- which can falsely say you have never had victory). The truth is:

You HAVE HAD VICTORY and
You will have VICTORY AGAIN.

Sometimes things feel a bit like problems of the past for a couple of reasons:

The 'problem area' is at a new level of resolution (we grow and we are able to fine tune even more over time)
We are on the way back:

When we have wandered off the path, while getting back to the path we want to return to, we might walk through some of the dark places we went through getting where we left off.

This process is a bit like traveling from your house to a new town. If you get off at the wrong intersection. You might:

Go down the road a while.
Hit a few pot holes.
Then when you realize you are on the wrong road you turn around and head back to the highway.
You will go through those pot holes again.

If you realize they are going to be there, you just go on and get back on track sooner.

But, if you didn't expect them, you might be falsely informed and believe you are still going the wrong direction.

There are Enemies: Mistaken Beliefs Tops Them ALL!!

2 CHRONICLES 20 :27 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to REJOICE over their enemies.

Rejoice over their enemies...

This may be another challenge we could use an example of. There are many examples in the Bible showing us how to choose to rejoice in adversity. Some of the most powerful examples are TODAY from people we know from church or work. People who we have met during challenges in our lives.

I remember being in the hospital while a dear friend and elder of the fellowship was in the process of transitioning into Heaven. For several days he was surrounded by family and friends. Each one carrying a challenge in the face of impending loss. Most were holding tightly to a little faith -- in the 'mustard seed' sense. They were sharing the wisdom he had taught with each other. Each story was shared with the friends and as people were saying good bye to him. Discussing how he had shared his time with each of them helped them to rejoice and to show him how much he had blessed each of them.

The stories they shared began to reveal how greatly he had touched the fellowship with his time and generous spirit.

The 'little faith' each had, began to become a stronger faith, as each person became closer to each other. They were Rejoicing in the face of loss. They were healing with the help of each other, the WORD, and the example of the elder.

We might think 'loss' is our enemy. We have a choice in this. When we choose to rejoice we can then find a way to make that decision happen.

It might take time, but, the choice points us in the right direction and then the fellowship, the WORD, and the examples we seek are revealed to us.

So...Today I choose to REJOICE regardless of what circumstances reveal. I choose to rejoice and I will take the actions to make a 'little faith' stronger in being involved in the WORD, the fellowship, and finding and/or becoming an example.

How? PSALM 40 :16 Let all those that seek thee REJOICE and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified.

Perhaps the first step is making a decision and the second step is reading the instructions ♥

I have a tendency to get in God's way. Not in an All Powerful sense. But in the HE gave us free will sense.

I am Like the child who runs crying with a broken toy and asks for the Father to fix it. As he is getting out the tools -- I have already had an "idea" and have grabbed it back to work on it myself.

HE is patient. He waits for me to return it to HIM. He isn't judging... He is just waiting.

So today I remind myself to "Get out of the way and let God work"

My reply to the quote:
Yes. This is true. "We all go through this" The only thing I'm not going to swear by is the "deadline so that every week you finish one piece" because some of my work took four or five times that amount of time to complete even when I spent 40 hours a week on it. Some of it still takes weeks of focus. So, depending on the type of work you are doing, that 'one week for a project' might not fit.

So, Rather than a project a week:
Put yourself on an allowance (the amount of time each week you will dedicate to your creativity). I have always said creativity needs nurturing so nurture it. I believe we need to remind each other to "nurture your creativity" because when we neglect it we tend to cover up our talents. We might need to go through some of the process over again when we return to it.

Remnants of Echos:
I think a lot of the reason this is true is because we have a lot of internal clearing to do. We have inner voices that tell us we are not that good. And echos of those who just don't get it saying stuff like "don't quit your day job" to an 11 yr old with a box of hand me down colored pencils. Or a teacher who puts other kid's stuff on display ahead of yours. So her room decor is just so.

Those things stick and we don't even realize it. Don't agree with it.

Creativity isn't measurable like that. Put your passion into your work and nurture your desire to do the work. Let the work evolve. Be consistent.

Organize Your List of Things To-Do -- How Google Docs Organized my Task List

Have you ever wondered if there was an easy way to organize your list of "things to do" and you have tried checklists and other tools? This idea uses an online option with an offline adaptation. Both ways will allow you easy access to your assignments and tasks you do for yourself, your family, and for clients.

If you have access to Google Docs you can create a spreadsheet with a list of each item (include a column for each type of information you will need for each item on your to-do list. Then create a 'submission form' which lets you quickly enter the information for each column on the form (you make the titles for the columns and you create the form as well). Then you will have a "task submission" form you can fill in as you receive orders (or family to-do, appointments, etc). After the item is completed you can put a check mark next to the item on your Google Doc spreadsheet.

Include columns about delivery time, payment amount, date payment received, etc and keep this form updated as you receive payments and feedback about each project or task.

I use this method several ways. I do the data entry on one of them (for my checklist of all clients). I have a couple that my clients complete themselves. Because they send so many emails each day I gave them the link to the form to enter tasks instead of emailing me. You can always us email to sort our any questions you have and then update the forms as you go to work with your particular needs.

In general each "form" should have all the columns you might need to open a task, take notes about the progress, note date ordered, date completed, price charged, date paid, feedback, follow up, etc.

If you do not have access to Google Docs you can still use the spreadsheet option on your computer's desktop (or literally on a printed out spreadsheet with the name of each task and the basic details (name of client, title of project, word count (if you are a writer), due date, date ordered, date delivered, date payment received, how much paid... any other data that will help you to track your daily flow of assignments. follow up with clients, check off your tasks.

Letting Go – With or Without Hesitation – One Day at a Time

I had a conversation with God about my feeling stuck. One comment by someone I do not even know sent my emotions out of control. I prayed to move past, to let go. It was the last thing on my mind before I tried to sleep and the first thing when I awoke. I prayed. I listened. I had a conversation with God.

I had a feeling it was important I share it.

This is it…

Me: Please help me let this go. I thought I let it go before, you helped me with this. I remember clearly.

Lord: Yes. I did, you did.

Me: Why does this keep happening?

Lord: Letting go is for one day, then, the next day you will need to choose to let it go again.

Me: Why Lord? I’m willing. I am sure I have let this go for more than one day and it did not come back again.

Lord: It may have seemed that way because each day as it passed by for you to choose, you let go again without hesitation.

Me: So what about yesterday, last night and this morning? Why have I decided not to let it go without hesitation now?

Lord: How do you know you haven’t let it go?

Me: I’m crying, angry, feeling way too much … it is hard to put into words.

Lord: Good signs you haven’t made a decision to let it go today.

Me: I just want to let it go forever! That’s it; I choose to let it go forever!

Lord: On Earth everything is ‘One Day at a Time’

Consider, that which you choose to hold on to and that which you choose to let go, are like the clouds passing overhead. They are not moving alone…sometimes the wind carries them and sometimes they are moving because the Earth is turning.

You could say they are floating by and to “let go” is a bit like the earth rotating without hesitation.

On the other hand; when we do not let go it is a bit as if the Earth stopped as we tried to hold on. If the Earth stops rotating gravity will cease, things will begin to shift and the Earth would begin to come apart at its core.

Me: Ok. I know what holding on and attaching to anything feels like. Why can’t I let it go today as easily as you described. I’ve been doing it many days in a row without hesitation.

Lord: Every now and then you choose to remember what it was like to be attached to this or that. Then we have this talk and you let go again. Then your gratitude about having the choice is renewed and deepened (again).

I got out of bed to write this down. A couple of times I thought to edit this or that and realized what I was changing actually changed the meaning. So, I left it just how I jotted it down the first time.

Then I found this quote on Facebook posted by my dear friend Deaquelynn (of Quelynn, Inc. http://www.facebook.com/QuelynnInc ) she said

“Consistency is key to the breakthrough!”

I believe the answer is to let go each day without hesitation ‘consistently’ and on those days when hesitation creeps in, the answer is to accept ownership of the hesitation as part of our process and make the choice to let go ‘out loud’ then transition back into letting go without hesitation as we embrace the gratitude that we have more hesitation free days than we did in the past.

Honestly, there was a time when hesitation free letting go did not exist and each day was buried under the previous day’s frustrations, discontent, and unhappiness. Letting go was the exception and usually required pretending I had let go (distracting myself with entertainment). Pretending to be serene is hard work!

Overtime, as I practiced forgiveness and letting go, true serenity began to last hours at a time. Then, before I knew it I would have several days of serenity in a row. Then weeks, months… yes, even years. Letting go has made itself a consistent part of my life and now and then when I struggle it is good to know it is also a part of the process and even if I don’t remember … the LORD is always ready to have this talk with me again whenever I need Him to.
