Year 11 have just returned from their British Council sponsored visit to Málaga.  They took part in a Joint Curriculum environmental project and undertook surveys and visits.  Many thanks to the British Council for making it all possible and to the Our Money Your Dream project for funding the group's visit to a flamenco show.  The students were great fun to be with and a credit to the College.

I was delighted to attend the presentation ceremony of the International School Award this week in London, to receive the award on behalf of the College.  The award, which is valid for 3 years, was presented by the BBC newsreader and journalist George Alagiah, and recognises the outstanding international work undertaken by Helston Community College's students and staff.

Raúl is from Burgos in northern Spain. 
  

We are delighted to welcome Beatriz and Luisa from the IES Juan Ramón Jiménez who have brought a group of 17 Spanish students aged 13-16 to visit our College and region.

The students have been having English lessons in College and also have enjoyed going on excursions to the Eden Project, St Michael's Mount, St Ives ....

 

A warm welcome to Jennifer Guichard, our new French assistant for 2009-2010.  We hope that you will all make her feel very welcome.  Jenny is from Brittany.

Next year the MFL department will be offering a trip to Catalonia for Spanish students in Years 9 and 10 including Barcelona, Tossa del Mar, Figueras and Gerona.  There will be a day at Port Aventura theme park and a visit to the Dalí museum.

For French students there will be a visit to Paris with a day at Disneyland, a visit to a local market and lots of sports activities.

Congratulations to the Year 9 Spanish groups & Ecowarriors on being awarded first prize for their etwinning envionmental blog 'What can we do for our environment?  ¿Qué podemos hacer por nuestro medio ambiente?' at the recent etwinning national conference at the National College for School Leadership.  The blog was run jointly by ourselves and our partner school in Málaga, the Instituto Juan Ramón Jiménez.  I went up to Nottingham to receive the award from a representative of the DCSF on behalf of the students.

40 Year 9 students have just returned today from their language trip to Paris.  They stayed in the Château de Grande Romaine and enjoyed visiting Paris, a local market, abseiling and climbing and a visit to Parc Astérix.

Merci beaucoup à tous for being such a fine group and great ambassadors for our College.

Merci énormément to all the staff who accompanied the trip and/or helped organise it: Mrs McGarr, Miss Morbey, Mrs Barnes, Mr Cardiet, Mr Carr, and Mr Dalgleish.  I am sure that like me they are off to sleep but look forward to seeing you all tomorrow in College!
