Quebec, Canada – Preps Software users can now purchase the industry’s leading, comparable solutions for 50% off, through March 31, 2012. The Dynagram In-Kind Program protects shops from slow-downs and shut-downs with Dynagram’s DynaStrip and inpO2 applications, used successfully at several thousand sites around the world.

Dynagram CEO Francois Guerard said in a statement today, “We understand that there are Preps owners who have been feeling neglected. Yes, we are gaining customers, but more importantly, we are also figuring out a way to keep print shops operating with confidence.”

Program pricing

For single copy Preps 5.0+ (proof of purchase)

DynaStrip Full Version, 2250 US $ (50% discount)

or

inpO2 Pro, 1950 US $ (50% discount)

Contact Dynagram for network version and other currency pricing

“Preps is excellent software, and was a formidable competitor to Dynagram’s solutions for years,” Guerard says. “However, the software and the customers suffered under different owners and especially, the current state of affairs.”

All the while, Dynagram – the company focused on imposition — has remained strong as Preps’ major competitor. Guerard says that people have, for many years, come down to the choice between Dynagram and Preps. Shops tied into Creo and then Kodak workflows had incentives to choose Preps.

“Imposition in of itself is a complex concept; and this is why we have kept Dynagram focused on imposition only. Our focus on imposition development, support, and working closely with customers has been crucial,” Guerard says.

“Preps customers need that kind of thriving product, with a company that is standing behind it, working on making it better while being quickly available for every customer need and possible job that comes in. Today, that company is Dynagram.”

About Dynagram

Wide Format Print Shop Live! Seminar Schedule

In addition to the many free bonus sessions and exciting show floor features already on tap for the 37th annual show, the following sessions will be hosted at the Wide Format Print Shop Live! exhibit:

How to Evaluate Wide Format Inkjet Press

Dr. Mark Bohan – Vice President of Research, Printing Industries of America

Fri., Mar. 2, 2012 – 3:30 – 4:30 pm

Sat., Mar. 3, 2012 – 10:30 – 11:30 pm

Wide-format inkjet has many different print engines with various capabilities dependent on technology and application. Evaluating the inkjet device requires assessing both the mechanical performance as well as the RIP capabilities in combination with the printer. Evaluating the mechanical performance will include tests to evaluate the nozzle performance for blockages, the bleed created by the ink/substrate combinations, the resolution that can be achieved at particular press speeds, the text quality, and the full color gamut. To complement this, the RIP capabilities need to be assessed for several characteristics, including overprinting, font formats, transparency, RGB/CMYK conversion, spot color handling, and images containing device-independent colors. Learn how to carry out a complete evaluation of a press and the importance of the different characteristics.

Purchasing the Right Wide Format Equipment for the Right Job

Nicholas Hellmuth – Expert in Wide Format Digital Printing Technology

Thurs., Mar. 1, 2012 – 10:30 – 11:30 am

Fri., Mar. 2, 2012 – 10:30 – 11:30 am

There are many wide format digital printing options on the market. This session will explore the benefits of the different technologies and substrates and help attendees decide which technology is the best for them. Learn about the applications that are best suited for UV curable printing, eco solvent inks, latex inks, and metallic inks.
Gent, Belgium – January 9, 2012 – Paris-based Newworks has transformed its operating processes with the implementation of Enfocus Switch. The comprehensive automation delivered by Enfocus solutions has enabled the company to dramatically save time and increase productivity.

Newworks provides round the clock document management services, through agencies or via the web, for its national and international customers. Services include small to large-format printing of document management projects, implementation of web-to-print portals, and on-site and off-site scanning. Running 24/7, Newworks’ production team operates in three shifts, with coordinators serving customers and prospects day and night. “We’re very used to managing complex projects with extremely tight deadlines. Our aim is always to meet our clients’ very high expectations,” says Christophe Dollez, IT and Prepress Manager, Newworks.

Within this demanding production environment, Newworks faced a number of challenges such as harmonizing prepress procedures, saving time in file processing, interconnecting B-to-B and B-to-C web portals, improving the billing and production system, and directly interconnecting with customers. To address these issues and streamline its processes, the company decided to invest in Enfocus Switch, combined with Enfocus PitStop Server, Enfocus PitStop Pro, Quite Hot Imposing, and Adobe CS5.5.

Overcoming the challenges

Newworks thoroughly reviewed the solutions available in the marketplace before making the investment decision. “We evaluated alternative solutions and opted for Switch because it’s very flexible, and works perfect with external solutions. Key for us was that Switch enables us to build a custom solution from scratch, one that we could tailor to our specific needs,” says Dollez.

“Quotations were one particular problem that we often came up against. Our project managers who quoted jobs didn’t have the tools required to know exactly how long a job would take. This meant quotes would sometimes be inaccurate in terms of how much time they would take and how much they should cost,” he explains.

“The goal was to create an automated workflow, where all the checks and tasks are performed automatically, and the preflight results are returned to the project manager. This gives him a far better understanding of how long production will take and what’s involved, and enable him to quote accordingly. For example, production has now been standardized around industry standards, such as GWG SheetCmyk_1v4.”

The extensive automation means Newworks can quickly and easily handle any file type – such as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, or Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc. – submitted by clients. Switch is primarily used to certify the incoming files, report back through PitStop, and automate the storage of production files on servers. Newworks now automates file management, certification and file processingas well as non-standard size files and bleed generation.

In addition, the company developed an interface in Java J2E to connect Switch to its systems with exchanges via javascript, vbscript, XLST transform and XML metadata. Dollez explains, “It wasn’t possible to complete these tasks before because of the heavy manual work required. This was the main reason why we decided to increase automation.”

Easy integration ensures immediate gains

Since implementing Switch, Newworks is enjoying important time savings. “Switch creates homogeneous, streamlined work procedures. It makes reporting on customer files easier and increases responsiveness and productivity. It automates the more time-intensive, lower-value tasks,” explains Dollez.

Impressed with how easy the Enfocus solutions are to operate and master, Dollez says, “During internal training, people were very enthusiastic about the project. They could see immediately that the solutions were going to really help with every-day tasks, and were looking forward to using them.”

Dollez has also been taking advantage of Enfocus Crossroads (www.crossroads-world.com), which supports and brings together users, vendors and systems integrators to facilitate automation. “Enfocus Crossroads is a great driver for explaining to end-users what automation is, and the benefits it delivers.”

Productivity boost

Of the many benefits that Enfocus solutions deliver, Dollez particularly appreciates the full automation of Newworks’ e-commerce site for business cards. “Previously, the operator spent several hours checking, downloading and printing orders. Now, Switch warns the operator that a new job has been taken via an alert in SwitchClient, and the job is redirected to the printing machine the operator has chosen.” He concludes, “Productivity has dramatically increased as a result, enabling us to focus more on customer service.”

GOA takes place March 1-3, 2012, at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

GOA rolls out the red carpet for its attendees by teaming up with industry leaders to provide further education through its live demonstrations and specialized bonus sessions.

George Ryan, GOA president, says, “You will be hard-pressed to find another conference and expo that offers as many myriad learning opportunities in such an exciting format – not to mention at no cost – as GOA. Each year we succeed in featuring the hottest trends and practical demonstrations so that attendees can see, first-hand, the immediate opportunities available to them to both grow and prosper in today’s marketplace.”

GOA attendees get the red carpet treatment
In its 37th year, GOA sees attendees return to take advantage of new product and technologies being showcased and often, debuting, by the large number of exhibitors. Attendees also maximize their show investment by attending the free events made available to them throughout the show.

A sampling of show floor events at GOA 2012 include, but are not limited to:

The Expo Theater

Ten powerful, future-oriented sessions are on the tap at the easily accessible Expo Theater located directly on the show floor. Sessions geared toward the latest market trends are presented by executives from exhibiting companies at the show.

Direct-to-Garment Center

In the Direct-to-Garment Center, attendees get a first-hand look at digital garment decoration technologies. Attendees can scour the area for solutions that fit their needs – and to learn techniques, tips, tricks and trends to improve production accuracy and prevent errors.

Wide Format Print Shop Live!

A show favorite, visitors engage in this innovative and live, end-to-end workflow platform. Production managers are invited to bring real job files that are test-run on an array of digital technologies, software, and consumables, to reflect a live working environment right on the show floor. Observe the “how-to” area, hosted by Dr. Mark Bohan, Vice President, Technology and Research, Printing Industries of America; to discover the best way to employ technologies and optimize production efficiency, as well as to take note of a variety of innovative applications.

Vehicle Wrap Center

The Vehicle Wrap Center features live vehicle wrap demonstrations of vinyl installations by MUTOH and Arlon. Installers get firsthand tips, tricks and techniques to improve their skills, and graphic imagers can use this area to connect with qualified installers. Graphics are printed by the 64″ ValueJet 1614 using Arlon’s DPF 6000XRP, a 2-mil gloss white cast film with bubble releasing, tinted, repositionable, permanent pressure-sensitive adhesive.

Vehicle Wrap Cup

Back by popular demand, FESPA presents the vehicle wrap competition where the “wrap stars” of the Americas region will be pitted against each other and the clock to find the FESPA Wrap Cup Champion of the Americas.

Bonus Sessions

Each year, GOA organizes free Bonus Sessions that focus on technology trends having a positive impact on attendees’ businesses. The following sessions address some of the foremost topics at the current time in the industry:

Increase Response Rates through Integrated Digital Print and Electronic Media

David Murphy, HP

Thursday, March 1 – 10:30 – 11:45 am

This presentation offers proof of how digital print – when strategically integrated with social media, email, and other electronic technologies – generates higher response rates and greater customer engagement than pure electronic channels can yield on their own.

Color Management

Heidelberg

Thursday, March 1 – 2:00 – 3:15 pm

In a fast-paced, one and a half-hour Q&A format, Heidelberg experts answer questions about how to reduce makeready times; how to save labor and material costs with existing equipment; how to determine actual production costs for specific customers; and information about G7 certification.

Maximizing Efficiencies through Automation

Steve Miller, Kodak

Friday, March 2 – 2:00 – 3:15 pm

The challenges in today’s marketplace require true automation and integration to separate best-in-class print service providers from their competition. Whether you are a package printer, or specialize in publishing or commercial print, success lies on investments being utilized to their fullest potential. By automating and integrating business production workflow systems, printers will drive costs out of their workflow systems through increased visibility, streamlined efficiencies, reduction of manual touch points and minimizing human error.

The 168-year old weekly reaching 1.5 million people around the world is based in London and printed in five countries. The Economist reports on world current affairs, business, finance, science and technology, culture, society, media and the arts.

(Watch Robert Banbury of The Economist talk about the installation here.)

To fulfill the needs of such broad outreach and circulation, The Economist implemented Enfocus Switch to automate repetitive tasks and reduce errors, resulting in improved efficiency. Switch connects the variety of applications within the many different system configurations in use at the organization.

Robert Banbury, Production Project Development Specialist at The Economist, says, “After considering all available automation systems at the time, our decision to choose Enfocus Switch was influenced in part by its ability to integrate with third-party applications, giving us the choice of some of the best available technology then and into the future; and also the easy-to-follow graphical user interface. Value was one of the more important factors in our final choice, but quality is always our priority.”

Switch is used primarily to move and duplicate files, often using metadata to create new folder structures and route files. Utilizing over 50 active flows, the range of applications Switch automates includes repurposing of PDF pages and images, preflighting editorial and advertising PDFs, and FTP file transfers.

Success Means Expansion

Initially, Switch ran on one live server and provided an advertising-based preflight and proofing replacement for the publication’s previous system. Now, four servers run a range of Switch flows supporting everything from advertising and editorial production, through to data transmission and archiving.

Banbury reports much success with Enfocus’ automation technology. He says, “Switch has become increasingly important for the newspaper’s production as the need to move, check and repurpose data and assets for other media outlets has come to the fore.

“Automation has removed many manually repetitive tasks from users, freeing them to concentrate on other important matters, and enabling them to meet critical deadlines.” Banbury adds that lead times have been improved together with a reduction in errors, and that the publication team has been able to develop sophisticated workflow solutions in-house, avoiding the need to turn to third-party developers.

Added value with Enfocus Crossroads

Critical to long-term user success with Switch, Banbury says, is the Enfocus Crossroads community. Growing and evolving with some of the industry’s foremost vendors, integrators and users of Enfocus Switch automation technology; the site exists as an open forum where ideas and flows are shared to further maximize the solution’s capabilities.

Banbury comments that the Enfocus Crossroads site is garnering much needed, and deserved, attention. “Promoting the open exchange of ideas and solutions among the Enfocus Crossroads community should ensure that Switch and other high-value automation partners are brought to the attention of the wider publishing and media world,” he says.

“Switch will remain a core application for the foreseeable future at The Economist. Its ability to link other applications in easily-managed workflows, whilst utilizing XML and metadata, makes it a key system tool.”

ONYX Graphics is this week introducing the SmartApps™ PitStop Pro plug-in for Adobe® Acrobat®, giving wide-format shops the ability to optimize productivity by eliminating the time-consuming steps required to correct client-supplied PDF files that have color, font or other problems that cause incorrect output.

“The new SmartApps PitStop Pro plug-in gives operators the ability to move to a dependable PDF workflow, regardless of the file source,” says Danielle Mattiussi, Director of Product Marketing for ONYX Graphics.”SmartApps PitStop Pro plug-in is a wide format PDF preflighting solution that catches many specific trouble areas and problems, and provides quick solutions, so print shops will no longer have to waste valuable prepress and production time managing this lack of predictability around issues such as transparencies, color or other print related issues.”

Mattiussi says that design applications can create uncertainty in print production due to special effects such as drop shadows, spot colors and fonts. Client files that must be made print-ready by the print shop add time and cost to any given print job – time that can’t always be billed back to the client.

“This exciting collaboration between Enfocus and ONYX Graphics brings Enfocus’ market-leading technology to the wide and large-format graphics market segment, which is beginning to embrace PDF workflows,” says Alex Hamilton, Director of Business Development, Enfocus. “There are few, if any, manufacturers better positioned to bring PitStop’s renowned advantages — in use by over 100,000 organizations worldwide — to this market segment, than ONYX Graphics.”

Key features
ONYX Graphics representatives say that the SmartApps PitStop Pro plug-in helps fix troublesome client PDF files quickly and efficiently, without leaving Adobe Acrobat software. According to Mattiussi, key features include:

* only seconds until the PitStop Pro plug-in checks all aspects of wide format PDF files to create certified print consistency.
* a wide format-specific preflight checklist that creates a reliable “digital master” so PDF files print correctly, with the highest quality and optimal printing performance.
* automatic highlighting of spot color and color management issues; also provides quick options for correction.
* automatic detection of file issues such as missing or bad fonts, missing bleed and more.
* tools to quickly edit PDF files from inside Adobe Acrobat software, without damaging the integrity of the original file.
* Action Lists that enable automation of otherwise tedious changes to multiple PDF files, such as color conversions and adding finishing marks.

The ONYX SmartApps PitStop Pro plug-in is the second in the new SmartApps toolset that cuts production time and costs by optimizing workflow using existing design applications. Designed to help those who prepare files for wide format printing, SmartApps plug-ins are application specific, operating system independent (can be used on Macintosh® or Windows® platforms), easy to use and affordably priced. They are complementary to any wide format RIP software – ONYX® RIP software is not required to use the plug-ins.

Availability
The SmartApps PitStop Pro plug-In is expected to be available as a 30-day, full-version trial and for purchase by December 2011 through ONYX dealers worldwide.
Orlando, Fla. – October 26, 2011 - The Printing Association of Florida (PAF), producer of the Graphics of the Americas Expo & Conference (GOA), today announces that Haymarket Publishing’s PrintWeek magazine will produce the GOA 2012 Show Daily.

George Ryan, GOA President, says, “We are pleased to have PrintWeek come on board as the producer of the highly anticipated Show Daily publication for our 2012 show. PrintWeek is highly respected in the industry, and will undoubtedly be a great fit with the show this year.”

The 16-page Show Daily – with versions available in both English and Spanish – will be produced directly on site during the three-day event. A dedicated PrintWeek team will report live from the show floor as well as cover the range of top-notch educational sessions, bringing visitors the latest news, product launches, sales, and more.

Over 3,000 copies will be printed each day and distributed throughout the venue. Though PrintWeek currently produces online content for the U.S. printing industry, the GOA Show Daily will mark the debut of PrintWeek’s first printed publication in the U.S.

“We’re thrilled that PrintWeek’s first steps in the U.S. with a printed product are at the Graphics of the Americas show,” says Wayne Morgan, digital publisher, Haymarket Business Media. “It’s great to bring our ethos of quality business journalism to a new market and we’re confident we’ll find a welcome home here.”

Matt Whipp, online editor, PrintWeek, adds, “With three events at the same location to cover in both English and Spanish, and an economy finally heading back in the right direction, we are starting our U.S. journey in a really exciting place, and at a really exciting time.”

The Cross Media Standards and Best Practices Survey averages 10 minutes to complete. Sections include:

General questions, to uncover respondents’ current involvement in cross-media

Receiving, creating, interoperability and sending mixed media jobs

Flow

File formats: XML, ePub, PDF

Metadata and validation

“Cross-media publishing has taken off with the recent proliferation of mobile devices,” says Bart Van Looy, the ICT DTP Publishing Project Leader at Sanoma Media who serves as co-Chairman of the GWG Cross Media subcommittee, and is the author of the Survey. “It’s essential that we get input from the industry’s key stakeholders so that the GWG can help solve some of the problems creatives and publishers are encountering with cross media.”

The survey covers general questions; and asks about receiving, creating and sending mixed-media jobs, specific workflow issues, and file formats used today and, potentially, tomorrow.

“The GWG and its members have an outstanding track-record and the right user base to help streamline and standardize tough processes in publishing workflows,” says Van Looy. “We hope to do the same for cross media, based in part on the results of this survey.”

The Workgroup expects to release findings in Q1 2012.

Cross Media Survey Toolkit for Enhanced Distribution

If individuals have access to relevant organizations that have employees or other associates who can participate in the Survey, the Ghent Workgroup encourages use of its Marketing/Social Media Toolkit to “spread the word” with ease. Contact smith@helenesmith.com to obtain the link to supporting materials.

About the Cross Media Subcommittee

The rise in use of mobile computing/communications/reading devices has simultaneously increased requirements for content and effective/efficient production and delivery.

The GWG Cross Media Subcommittee has been established to review the use of technology to determine if new specifications/standards, best practices, and/or use of other formats (XML, PDF, ePub) are needed to guarantee quality and accuracy control of cross media files as they proceed through creation, processing, exchange and output workflows in these environments.

About the Ghent Workgroup
