what happened: Ramkumar Ramanathan lost to Marcos Baghdatis 7-6, 3-6, 6-7 in the Antalya Open quarter-finals.
what it means: It was the experience of Baghdatis, a former world No 8 and Australian Open finalist, which helped him prevail over the world No 222, with the match going down to the wire in the deciding set.
what next: Having reached the last-8 of the ATP 250 event, Ramanathan's ATP world ranking is expected to go up.

Medical admissions registrations begin in state

what happened: On the first day of registrations for MBBS and BDS admissions, 8450 students have registered.
what it means: The process is on till July 10, and the state Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) will release a state merit list by July 12. Date for released if first merit list yet to be released.
what next: DMER will update the admission schedule online by next week, said officials.

IIT first seat allotment list declared

what happened: The first list for IIT aspirants was released on Wednesday and most top ranks have chosen IIT-B.
what it means: 11,000 students were allotted seats in the first round for 10,988 seats. Students can confirm admissions and seats by paying fees via the respective reporting centre, starting today.
what next: The second list should be released next week.

what it means: Claudio Bravo stopped Portugal’s first three spot kicks from Quaresma, Joao Moutinho and Nani while Chile converted their first three kicks to win the clash of South American and European champions.
what next: Chile will face either Germany or Mexico, who meet on Thursday, in Sunday’s final in St Petersburg.
