what happened: Mumbai woke up to wet conditions as heavy overnight rain lashed the city for a second day-in-a-row.
what it means: Colaba weather station, representative of south Mumbai, recorded 84mm rain between Sunday night and Monday morning. Santacruz, representative of the suburbs, recorded 52.4mm rain during the same time.
what next: On account of Eid, roads were clear with no reports of traffic jams. Local trains ran smoothly.

Two elephants kill 3 persons in Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri

what happened: Three persons were killed by two elephants in north Bengal districts since Sunday afternoon.
what it means: Of the three victims, two are from Cooch Behar district while the other is from Jalpaiguri. All the bodies have been recovered. In Cooch Behar, the animal attacked a couple and killed the husband.
what next: Forest officials are conducting search operations in both districts to capture the killer elephants.

what it means: The natural ingredients act as anti-fungi agents and muffins baked using them stay fresh for as long as those made using chemical preservatives -- 24 days.

MSRDC won’t upgrade ‘costly’ anti-crash system

what happened: MSRDC dropped plan to install Brifen wire rope safety fence along Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
what it means: Sources said the plan was junked as it would have burdened the cash-strapped MSRDC. Brifen wires are imported from the UK and are priced at Rs5,200 per running meter.
what next: MSRDC are going to install crash barriers and stick to the Indian Road Congress (IRC) guidelines.
