Apple preps Oct. 4 event, iPhone 5 on deck

Apple has made it official. It will have an “executive presentation” Oct. 4 that is widely expected to include the iPhone 5.

The invite, sent to reporters, indicated that the event will start at 10 a.m. PT. All the invite really said is that it was time to talk iPhone.

A few observations worth noting:

The event is at Apple headquarters and appears to be a bit less imposing than the usual massive keynote.
There’s even a cafe breakfast and coffee bar at 9 a.m. PT before the event.
The approach from Apple seems a bit different this go round.

Whether the event reflects a new Apple approach to the media remains to be seen, but the iPhone chat is notable because it’s CEO Tim Cook’s official coming out party.

The iPhone presentation isn’t likely to include the pizazz of a Jobs keynote, but the fifth version of Apple’s iconic phone is going to be notable. For Apple, the iPhone 5 will set the stage for the next year.

Rumors have been circulating for months about the iPhone 5, but what is known indicates some serious volume for Apple.

The iPhone 5 will be the first Apple device to be available on the top three carriers in the U.S.—AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. That latter one isn’t official, but reports indicate that Sprint will get the iPhone.
While the iPad gets a lot of attention, the iPhone remains the cornerstone device for the company. “The iPhone is the cornerstone of Apple’s consumer strategy, with few opportunities larger than the global handset market. Now it is positioned to ride a wave of smartphone growth that could top a billion annual unit shipments by 2015,” said Morningstar analyst Michael Holt.
Apple’s iPhone 5 will provide profit fuel for the next three quarters at least. Wedbush analyst Scott Sutherland argued that the iPhone 5 is a first installment of a new product cycle for the smartphone. He said:

Our checks indicate interest remains strong in the iPhone 4. We also see increased global distribution, especially in China and other emerging markets driving growth. Apple added 42 carrier partners in FQ3, with most added at the end of the quarter and more coming online. By comparison, RIM distributes through over 600 carriers, meaning Apple still has a large opportunity to increase distribution. We also expect new product launches including a new iPhone in early October with store training to begin soon, an iPhone targeting emerging markets, and a LTE iPhone in 2012 with an improved UI. We now expect 21 million iPhones to ship in FQ4, up from 20 million. More importantly, we expect 26 million units in FQ1, up from 23 million, due to seasonality and iPhone 5.

Study: 28 percent of 3DS owners don't care for 3D effects

Nintendo's 3DS portable game console was heavily hyped before its release due to its use of 3D effects on one of the console's two screens. The 3D visuals can be seen without the need for special glasses and can be adjusted or turned off entirely. But since the console was released in February in Japan and in March in the US there's been some questions as to the overall need for the 3D effects for the games made especially for the console.

Gamespot reports that according to a new study by Interpret, just 22 percent of Nintendo 3DS owners surveyed believe that the 3D effects improve gameplay while 28 percent believe the effects actually detract from the gaming experience. 13 percent of 3DS owners say they play games on the console with the 3D effects turned completely off. The study also indicated that for non-3DS owners, 28 percent of them were not even aware that the console allowed for glasses-free 3D effects. The survey was conducted in May of this year with 1,600 people participating.

In terms of 3D gaming overall, Interpret's study says that just seven percent of gamers believe a handheld console is the ideal platform for playing games in 3D. 56 percent of those surveyed believe the best 3D gamingexperience is with a large screen TV connected to a console; but at the same time, wearing glasses to experience the 3D effects is still a problem. 37 percent of those surveyed said they experienced nausea or dizziness which watching 3D games and entertainment on the screen.

The specs of the ThinkPad are fairly typical of the genre, but Lenovo has included some special stuff to make this stand out from the crowd. Foremost is the use of an N-Trig dual digitizer which allows optional pen input on the screen in addition to the typical multi-touch input. The pen rests in a silo on the tablet when not in use.

Lenovo put a full SD slot on the ThinkPad, and a regular USB port that works with the optional portfolio case. The USB port can be used with standard USB flash drives for file exchange. File transfer can be done via the SD slot, too.

The 10.1-inch IPS screen is not the brightest I have tested, but it has outstanding viewing angles which is a good trait for a tablet. The front-facing camera does a decent job with video chatting, and the speaker, while not anything special, is quite loud for a tablet.

In a move rare for a Honeycomb tablet, the ThinkPad Tablet has four hardware buttons beneath the screen (in portrait orientation). These are a Lock Screen Rotation, Browser launcher, Back, and a Home button. These buttons are very rigid and can be hard to press. I find I end up using soft buttons on the screen out of habit.

There are two cameras on the ThinkPad, a 2MP front-facing camera and a 5MP camera on the back. The front camera delivered decent video chatting using Google Talk. The rear camera is nothing spectacular, as I found photos taken with it to be very basic. This tablet will not replace your basic point-and-shoot given its lackluster quality photos, not to mention its unwieldy size for snapping shots.

The ThinkPad construction used in the tablet make it easily the most rugged tablet I have used. It is heavy at 1.6 pounds, but it feels nice and solid in the hand.

Software

Lenovo is aiming the ThinkPad Tablet at the enterprise worker, and the software that comes standard reflects that aim. While there is plenty of entertainment software (Slacker, Netflix, Kindle, Zinio, Angry Birds), the tablet is loaded with apps for the worker. These include LANDesk, Computrace, Citrix Receiver, and McAfee Mobile Security. A full version of Documents to Go comes standard allowing viewing/editing of MS Office documents.

Lenovo has customized Honeycomb 3.1 to add a home screen launcher and a favorite apps wheel for easy access to the apps used most often. The Lenovo App Shop is front and center offering apps the company deems fitting for the ThinkPad.

The onscreen keyboard included on the tablet is the flexT9 keyboard by Nuance. This keyboard has good predictive text and autocorrection that starts learning from your typing as soo as you begin using it. I found it to be a decent keyboard, and it works with the optional pen to allow coarse editing of documents by pen. This experience was variable, and perhaps it would be better over time.

The web browser is typical Android with some special features. In the Settings screen there is a Labs function that makes web pages display in a full screen mode. Swiping in from either the left or right side of the screen causes a wheel menu to appear with common browser functions, such as Next and Previous. I normally use the Dolphin Browser on Android tablets, but this is a decent alternative.

The optional pen works with the MyScript Notes Mobile app that is preinstalled and uses a notebook metaphor to allow taking ink notes with the pen. Handwriting can be automatically converted to digital text if desired, or ink notes can be left as written. The latter worked better for me, as the ink-to-text conversion was not very accurate. The pen is the only input method allowed with the Notes app, which was a bit odd given the presence of an Android keyboard.

iPhone 5 to debut Oct. 4, ATD say

Apple will debut its iPhone 5 on October 4, with new Chief Executive Tim Cook leading the show, All Things Digital reported today.

The report, citing unnamed sources close to the situation, said the new iPhone itself would go on sale "within a few weeks" of the announcement.

Rumors have swirled for months about when exactly the new iPhone would arrive, with October looking increasingly likely.

The iPhone 5 carries tremendous significance for Apple. The company faces mounting pressure from the Android realm, with a confusing array of budget-minded and high-end models, but Apple chooses to put many its eggs in many fewer baskets. That's worked out well for the iPhone 4, though, which has attained mainstream success.

The iPhone 4 has held up well under the competitive pressure. But with the breakneck pace of the smartphone market bringing higher-speed LTE networks, larger displays, NFC payments, and other features, Apple's flagship phone is starting to look a bit long in the tooth.

The iPhone is important for many other companies besides Apple. Manufacturer Foxconn is said to be making 150,000 iPhone 5 models a day. Accessory makers, too, are champing at the bit, as exhibited by Case-Mate's premature publication of apparent iPhone 5 cases.

Purported cases for the iPhone show a possible tapered back compared to the blockier iPhone 4 design.

Chrome 14: The best Web browser keeps getting better (Review)

It’s odd. When Firefox moved into its accelerated development path, Firefox really didn’t get much better. In fact, it’s been getting less stable. Google’s Chrome Web browser though just keeps getting better with every new release. Chrome 14, in my opinion, is now clearly the best Web browser for any operating system available today.

Why? Well, look at all the raw numbers. To see how Chrome 14 ranked, I put it up against the latest releases of Firefox and IE 9 on a Windows 7 box.

When it comes to Web standards compatibility, Chrome 14 is a winner. On the Acid 3 compatibility test, which checks out how well a browser complies with Web standards such as Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), JavaScript, and Extensible Markup Language (XML), Chrome had a perfect score. Firefox 6 had a score of 97 and IE had a 95.

On the recently, August 23rd, updated HTML5 Test, which checks to see how compliant the Web browser is with the HTML5 Web page standard, Chrome is king of the mountain again with a score of 341 out of a possible 450. Firefox 6.02 came in second with 313 and IE 9.0.8 came in a distant last with 141. Anyone who tells you that IE is HTML5 compliant is trying to sell you Windows. It’s not. It’s not even close.

Moving on to performance, I use Chrome 14 on all my systems. That means I use it on various Linux desktop distributions; Chrome OS on a Samsung Chromebook, Mac OS Snow Leopard and Lion and Windows XP and 7 PCs. It runs fast on all of them.

For performance benchmarking, though I use my Gateway DX4710 running Windows 7 SP1. This PC is powered by a 2.5-GHz Intel Core 2 Quad processor and has 6GBs of RAM and an Intel GMA (Graphics Media Accelerator) 3100 for graphics. It’s hooked to the Internet via a Netgear Gigabit Ethernet switch, which, in turn, is hooked up to a 60Mbps (Megabit per second) cable Internet connection.

The first benchmark was Kraken 1.0. This is Mozilla’s take on the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark In Kraken, lower scores are better. Chrome 14 beat its last version, Chrome 13 and all other comers with a score of 4578.5millisecondss (ms). Chrome 13 had a score 4927.7ms.; Firefox took second with a score of 7588.2ms.; and IE came in last with a wretched 17,051.9ms.

With Peacekeeper, another JavaScript-performance benchmark, where higher scores are better, IE wins with a score of 8,343. Chrome comes in second with 7,663 and Firefox comes in a distant last with 4,588 points.

According to Google’s own JavaScript test V8 Benchmark Suite, where higher scores are better, Chrome 14 takes first with 7,591. The others aren’t even competitive. Firefox flops with a showing of 3,614 and IE does even worse with 2,193.

Finally, on SunSpider 0.9.1, the oldest of the JavaScript Web benchmark tests, where lower results are better, Chrome wins again with a score of 249.9ms Here the results are much more competitive. IE 9 is hot on its tail with a score of 252.6ms. and Firefox shows well with 301.2ms.

The results? Chrome is more standard compliant and faster than its closest competitors. Chrome has more than just that going for it though. This latest release includes some nice minor fixes and some very interesting major features.

Chrome 14: Pretty and Fast. (Gallery)

The fix I think most people will like is that print preview is now not only included, it works automatically. That’s the good news. The bad news is it doesn’t work well for Chrome on Macs. The feature, which is powered by Chrome’s built-in PDF reader, worked sporadically for me on both my Snow Leopard and Lion systems.

While that was annoying, it was nice to see the feature work perfectly on my Linux and Windows systems. Mac users may be mollified to find that Chrome 14 does work with Lion’s overlay scrollbars. You can also use the hot-key combo of Ctrl+Shift+F to activate basic support for Lion’s full-screen mode.

The two important new features aren’t going to be important to you in the short run, but it may be a different story in the long run.

The first, Web Audio application programming interface (API) lets developers create interesting sounds effects for games and applications. With it, programmers can add 3D dynamically positioned sounds sources and mix multiple sound sources. The results can be quite interesting. Try and see for yourself. I can see some very interesting games and musical applications coming out of this.

A far more significant feature is that Chrome 14 now supports C and C++ applications in Google’sNative Client SDK (software developer kit). Native client lets developers create local applications that run locally within Chrome.

What that means isn’t, as some people will have it, that Google is trying to redefine the Web. No, but what Google is doing, as has been doing ever since they introduced Chrome OS, is to redefine the desktop. What’s important about Native Client is that instead of just running applications off the Web, you’ll be able to run local applications at your machine’s full speed instead of at your Internet’s speed. In addition, since Native Clients run within the Chrome security sandbox, they’re much safer than most applications.

Put Native Client applications together with Google’s support for HTML5 local data storage for its applications and it’s clear than ever that Google wants Chrome to be just not your browser, but your operating system as well. At this time, there are only a handful of Native Client applications and those are only available via the Chrome Web Store, but I see big things coming here.

Indeed, I see big things coming for Chrome in general. It’s not only faster and more fully featured than ever, it’s also becoming more popular by the day. Indeed, in some South American countries, Chrome is already the number one Web browser. At this rate, I can see the day when it’s the number one Web browser in the world.

Windows 8: Microsoft reaffirms ARM won't run x86 apps

When it was announced that Windows 8 would also support the ARM architecture, it was immediately questioned if x86 applications would run on ARM PCs. There has been some confusion on the matter but Steven Sinofsky clarified during a Q&A session this week that x86 applications will not run on ARM based PCs.

This news really shouldn’t come as a major surprise considering the differences between the two architectures. One argument made about why Microsoft didn’t work to create such cross functionality is because of malware and viruses. Slashgear reported that Sinofsky said, “if we do let them run, we just brought the perceived negatives of some of the ecosystem.” He explains, “so, people say, great, now it’s easy to port viruses and malware and we’ll port those."

The architectural differences between the two platforms is so different that to make it even a possibility would most likely require a virtualization extension. If this were the case, it would undermine the entire purpose of supporting the ARM architecture, not to mention the performance would be less than desirable.

The good news is that ARM based Windows 8 products will not be susceptible to the same attacks as the traditional desktop products. Being that there will be considerably less ARM based products out their when compared to x86 or x64 based installs, they should be much less of a target for those with malicious intent.

Microsoft has been saying that ARM and x86 will not be compatible since CES. While this information is not entirely new, there had been some information circling, due to a slightly ambiguous quote, that caused some to believe that this was possible. The confusion came back in May when Intel let slip information regarding Windows 8 which caused Microsoft to pin down Intel for releasing inaccurate information. The confusion arose when Microsoft didn’t specify what information Intel leaked that was inaccurate.

As we said earlier, this is a re-affirmation that ARM and x86 applications will not work natively across the gap. If you had hopes and dreams and were living on rumors that this information was true, sadly, you will be disappointed.

Windows 8: wish list of features

With wild anticipation, let’s say that after the success of Windows 7, why would so many people expect more from Windows 8? Any why should Windows 8 come out so soon after Windows 7. After all, many companies, believe it or not, have not moved to Windows 7. They are either stuck on Vista, or on XP. It may come as a shock, but a lot of companies are not with the cutting edge of technology. They don’t have the money to upgrade the software and or hardware, or the money to upgrade the skills of their IT staff. So they are stuck behind an ancient Operating System, which makes do.

But we’ve been hearing rumors about Windows 8 coming out in 2012. Maybe, maybe not. But what do people want from such a new Operating system. Well, here is a Windows 8 wish list.

New Welcome screen

A new User Interface similar to the Windows phone 7 has been seen in the latest builds of Windows 8; this would mark a distinct introduction to the computer’s use.

‘Modern’ Task Manager

A colleague wrote about this yesterday. So let me just add, with new screen features and statistics about usage, it should be a different utility vehicle.

Portable Workspaces

You may be able to put Windows 8 OS on a USB stick. This would be a portable development.

Aero auto-colorization

A new feature that reacts to the most prominent color of the Windows wallpaper.

Hybrid Booting

Core operating system files are ‘put to sleep’ which enables the startup time to be significantly reduced.

Simple system ‘reset’

When needed, you can reset the OS to it’s default settings.

Ribbons in Windows Explorer

Ribbons which are prominent in Office 2010, will change the interface look

ARM processor ‘tablet support’

ARM is a a low-power processor which allows devices to run longer on batteries and it will be available on Win8.

Genuine center

You will now be able to organize your Windows licences with this center.

Cloud-based roaming profiles

With cloud operations becoming more frequent, it would only stand to reason that they would be available in the Windows 8.

Push notifications

This is similar to or is expected to be similar to the Windows Phone 7 push notification.

Improved disk cleanup

Cleaning your disk or Operating system by removing junk files will be easier and automatic.

‘Modern Reader’ PDF support

PDF files will have a new reader, and perhaps editor functionality.

Internet Explorer 10

Continue to enhance IE with a new version that competes easier with Chrome, and Firefox.

Internet Explorer ‘Immersive’

A slimmed down version of the browser will feel and look like the phone version.

SmartScreen file filter

SmartScreen filters out spam or bad links based on community responses.

Windows App Store

Get files, updates, and Apps from the Windows App Store.

History Vault

This will replace the Backup and Restore feature in Windows 7

Step-by-step install

The install wizard will be made easier to use for novices to work with.

ISO mounting

Users will be able to use ISO images and burn them as needed.

Native wake on LAN

Even if your PC is hibernating or turned off, a network push through will be able to turn it back on.

Webcam application

Users will be able to use their web cam with the new User Interface. They will be able start and stop videos, capture images immediately or after a short delay.

Summary

Windows 8 comes at a time when there is a lot of push for implementing many new technologies into an old system. Operating Systems still control the computer and interface with the CPU. But with the advent of apps, and how they changed the mobile technology, the impact is now felt on PC’s and OS’s to break from the past and enter a new era of PC and user interaction. One thing is for sure, the next generation of Operating Systems will not look like the last generation.

MacBook Pros to get a pre-holiday speed bump?

Apple's MacBook Pro series could be the next in line for a hardware upgrade, according to a new report.
Citing anonymous sources "with proven insight into Apple's future product plans," AppleInsider says the Mac maker plans to introduce new models of its Pro portables with speedier Intel processors. The new models are said to ship in time for the holiday shopping season, though could arrive this month, the outlet says.
How big a bump are we talking about? AppleInsider points to Intel's latest crop of quad-core Core i7 chips, which come in at 2.4GHz, 2.5GHz, and 2.7GHz. That's compared to 2.0GHz, 2.2GHz and 2.3GHz in the existing 15- and 17-inch models. The 13-inch MacBook Pro could be in line for a slightly smaller boost, moving from the 2.7GHz Core i7 chip to the 2.8GHz model.
Apple last updated its MacBook Pro line in February, bringing Intel's Sandy Bridge CPUs to the entire line, as well as adding Thunderbolt, the speedy new port that was a technical collaboration between Apple and Intel. Other changes included the move to Intel's integrated graphics and GPUs from AMD, and a jump to FaceTime HD cameras.
Interest remains in a full overhaul of the MacBook Pro line. Its cousin, the MacBook Air jumped a generation last October, with Apple dubbing it as the "next generation of MacBooks." Reports from MacRumors and TUAW in late July suggested Apple was working on potentially expanding that line to include a larger 15-inch model, however, it remains unclear whether that would be a part of the Air family, or Apple moving towards a new design on its Pro notebook line.

Alienware vs other brand of PC

Everyone knows Alienware product is for gaming. This type of PC is the most powerful PC in the universe.
what about other brand of PC. HP,SONY, ACER, TOSHIBA, and MAC. Which one people mostly choose to purchase.
In my opinion, I would like to choose other brand of laptop or PC instead of Alienware. Because after Alienware released. All other brand of PC also released Intel core i7 CPU of PC, and they offer free upgrade for hard drive or something else. Customer would like to choose other brand instead of Alienware.
In fact, base on all the soft program or game. We don't need Alienware products, because a lot of software or program requirement is not high. In my mind, I think that Alienware is only for rich people, who want to HD gaming or the PC process faster.

Alienware laptop's appearance is the coolest. Features are at the top. People call Alienware is the most powerful laptop in universe.
Alienware is combine all top spare parts. That's why it's fastest and powerful laptop.

Mac, tiny and light. Apple product, which is not support .exe file. However, Mac is the best laptop for office or student to use. All apple laptop is not for gaming.

Other brand of PC. For example, HP, TOSHIBA, SONY, ACER etc. I think that most people choose those brand of PC, because they can play game, and use for offices. However, there still a lot of people choose Apple, because the brand is famous.

Of course, Apple and Alienware product is more expensive than other brand, because of the brand. Other brand of laptop is cheaper than Apple and Alienware. I would like to choose other brand, because other brand of laptop got same as Apple or Alienware did. Intel core i7 CPU, 3G graphic, something like that.
Would you spend more several hundred dollars to purchase Apple or Alienware products?
By the way, that's what I thought. Not everyone thinks like that. Maybe some people have their own reasons etc.

Apple vs. Microsoft: Which i would like to use?

Everyone has an opinion about user interfaces. The trouble is, most people don’t have enough experience to back those opinions up. Among PC and Mac users worldwide, most use one platform regularly and rarely if ever use the other.

For example, I am a PC user, and i have never use Mac, because i mostly use PC. PC and Mac got different features. Feature of Mac is likely better than PC. By the way, i would like to choose Mac user interface, because it is more beautiful, and convenient.

Both of them got too much different interface, and feature.

however .exe file is only for windows only. Apple does not support exe.

If Apple can change this feature, and support .exe file.
I think that more consumer will choose Apple.

Help Microsoft Name Windows 8

Windows 8 may or may not be the final name of Microsoft’s next version of Windows client, due out in 2012. If it is just a codename, what should the actual final name be?
It’s easy to forget that”Windows 8″ is just a code name. When Microsoft Windows Chief Steven Sinofsky finally uttered the words “Windows 8″ in an official capacity earlier this year, he made a point of noting it was nothing but a codename.

Many of us have assumed that Microsoft will call Windows 8 client “Windows 8″ when it is released, given that it’s the follow-up to Windows 7. But maybe that’s not the case….

I’ve gotten a couple of tips in recent months from various sources cautioning me that Windows 8 may not be the final name of the next version of Windows client. My tipsters didn’t spill a list of potential candidates under consideration. But they did note that Windows 8 is nothing but a codename. One of the supposed reasons: Microsoft wants to make it clear that Windows 8 is a break from the past, and, as its execs repeatedly claim, the biggest Windows release since Windows 95. Therefore, a new and different name is in order.

In a September 7 blog post about Hyper-V’s inclusion in Windows 8, company officials actuallyused quotation marks around the name “Windows 8″ as Windows watcher Paul Thurrott noted. As my ZDNet colleague Ed Bott added, Microsoft didn’t use this convention when referring to Windows 7. Aha! The codename-plot theory thickens….

(As a side note, I’d say it’s quite likely that Windows Server 8’s final name will be Windows Server 2012 — or 2013 if it is released to manufacturing very late in the year. In the server world, cute and cuddly names are less valued by the enterprise audience.)

Back to Windows client. Microsoft’s BFF Nokia recently put out a call to customers to help the company name its coming Mango Windows Phones. Maybe we, being the core audience of Microsoft customers, partners and pundits that we are, should help Microsoft with some suggestions for a name for Windows 8.

I doubt Microsoft plans to unveil the final Windows 8 name next week at Build. So there’s still time to make suggestions.

Facebook may have missed revenue projections by $500 million

Earlier this week, we learned that Facebook reportedly doubled its revenue to $1.6 billion for the first half of 2011. Was this really the good news it was made out to be? PrivCo, an analyst firm for privately-held companies, doesn’t think so. In fact, the group says Facebook missed its own forecasts by about 25 percent, or nearly $500 million.

In December 2010, Facebook announced that it had raised $1.5 billion at a valuation of approximately $50 billion, but that it had no immediate plans for the funds and would simply continue to build and expand its operations. The transaction consisted of two parts: in January 2011, Goldman Sachs completed an oversubscribed offering to its non-US clients in a fund that invested $1 billion in Facebook Class A common stock, while in December 2010, Digital Sky Technologies, The Goldman Sachs Group, and funds managed by Goldman Sachs, invested $500 million in Facebook Class A common stock at the same valuation.

PrivCo CEO Sam Hamadeh tells me that the devil is in the details. In the prospectus for the Goldman Sachs placement to its private clients, Facebook had projected first half year sales in 2011 of more than $2 billion and full year revenue of $4 billion. Furthermore, these numbers were based solely on ad revenue.

Hamadeh admits he never saw a copy of the prospectus, but he says he spoke to multiple people who did and could verify the numbers. In fact, he believes that the yearly revenue number is actually $4.5 billion if you add what the company expected to make from Facebook Credits, its online payment system, and other small sources. Either way, this isn’t good news for Facebook.

“When it sold stock via Goldman Sachs to investors in January at a $50 billion valuation, it provided internal ‘conservative projections’ in investment documents circulated of ‘over $4 billion in revenue for 2011,’” Hamadeh told me. “At revenue of under $1.6 billion for the 1st half of 2011 (actually close to $1.5 according to our sources), revenue will barely exceed $3.2 billion for 2011. Facebook has seriously missed its own revenue forecasts of nearly $2 billion for 1st half 2011 by nearly $500 million, or 25%. (If this were a public company such as Google just announcing such results, its stock would be dropping dramatically today, perhaps by a third overnight.)”

Facebook’s valuation has been all over the place in the months following the investment at $50 billion. Some look at the growth and see great prospects. Others see a dip in the last few months and think Facebook is doomed. The truth is we can only make predictions on the little data we have. Facebook is going public next year, possibly as soon as Q1 2012. This will open up the financial data floodgates, and then we’ll finally be able to figure out how far the social networking giant will be able to go.
