I've recently been using OneNote exclusively to take school notes and, like you, have found it to be an indispensable tool for notetaking. it's amazing. I've gotten around the lack of syncing by using Microsoft LiveMesh to automatically sync the folder to which OneNote saves notes to the internet. The same thing could be easily done with Dropbox or another similar service, I imagine, although OneNote 2010 will reportedly have built in syncing support.

Anyway, I know this is an old article, but I recently downloaded the newest version of Evernote in the hopes of finding that I would be able to actually use it for notetaking this time, and in doing so be able to support the open-source community. However, like you, I found it to be terrible for taking notes, and its organizational system palls in comparison with OneNote. It also has no support that I can see for super or subscripting, essential features for me as a biology student.

Anyway, I just wanted to add my two cents. Best of luck to you!

I don't think the IF community as a whole relishes obscurity. In fact, this is interestingly timed, since there were several widely-attended IF panels at PAX East last weekend and a lot of IF outreach at the conference as a whole.

It's not the XML approach that you mentioned, but Inform 7 (http://inform7.com/) is aimed to be easy to write in, and can be played in the browser using Parchment (http://parchment.toolness.com/). Parchment turns games compiled by I7 into Javascript.

I enjoyed your article! I also blog, though I haven't worked with WordPress yet (I'm using Blogger).

"It seems to me that college media online is led by students who are innovating and experimenting with support from their advisors"
^Wholeheartedly agree. I think colleges should let more students experiment with online media, whether that be through blogging or creating online journals. I think contemporary college students (and post-grad as well) will be playing a key role in shaping online media and social media for years to come.

I wish I was able to attend the cmanyc, it seemed like a great overall experience.
