We are migrating our blog from Blogger to Jekyll, a fantastic website generator that’s designed for building minimal, static blogs to be hosted on GitHub Pages. The simplicity of Jekyll’s theming layer and writing workflow is fantastic; however, setting up our website took a lot longer than expected.

What Is Jekyll?

Jekyll is a website generator that’s designed for building minimal, static blogs to be hosted on GitHub Pages.

In this article we’ll walk through the following:

The quickest way to set up a Jekyll powered blog;
How to avoid common problems with using Jekyll;
How to import your content from Blogger, use your own domain name, and blog in your favorite editor;
How to theme in Jekyll, with Liquid templating examples;
Couple of Jekyll 2.0’s new features, including Sass and CoffeeScript support and collections.

Jekyll takes your content written in Markdown, passes it through your templates and spits it out as a complete static website, ready to be served. GitHub Pages conveniently serves the website directly from your GitHub repository so that you don’t have to deal with any hosting.

THE ADVANTAGES OF GOING STATIC

Simplicity.

Jekyll strips everything down to the bare minimum, eliminating a lot of complexity:

No database.

Unlike WordPress and other content management systems (CMS), Jekyll doesn’t have a database. All posts and pages are converted to static HTML prior to publication. This is great for loading speed because no database calls are made when a page is loaded.

No CMS.

Simply write all of your content in Markdown, and Jekyll will run it through templates to generate your static website. GitHub can serve as a CMS if needed because you can edit content on it.

Fast.

Jekyll is fast because, being stripped down and without a database, you’re just serving up static pages. My base theme, Jekyll Now, makes only three HTTP requests — including the profile picture and social icons!

Minimal.

Your Jekyll website will include absolutely no functionality or features that you aren’t using.

Design control.

Spend less time wrestling with complex templates written by other people, and more time creating your own theme or customising an uncomplicated base theme.

Security.

The vast majority of vulnerabilities that affect platforms like Blogger don’t exist because Jekyll has no CMS, database or PHP. So, you don’t have to spend as much time installing security updates.

Convenient hosting.

Convenient if you already use GitHub, that is. GitHub Pages will build and host your Jekyll website at no charge, while simultaneously handling version control.

Installing NOOBS on Raspberry Pi.

NOOBS

NOOBS is an easy operating system installer which contains Raspbian. It also provides a selection of alternative operating systems which are then downloaded from the internet and installed.

Requirement

4gb or more MicroSD/SD card

Card Reader

Installing NOOBS on a Card

Offline and network install

Once you've downloaded the NOOBS zip file, you'll need to copy the contents to a formatted SD card on your computer.

To set up a blank SD card with NOOBS:

Format an SD card that is 4GB or larger as FAT. See instructions on how to do this below.
Download and extract the files from the NOOBS zip file.
Copy the extracted files onto the SD card that you just formatted, so that this file is at the root directory of the SD card. Please note that in some cases it may extract the files into a folder; if this is the case, then please copy across the files from inside the folder rather than the folder itself.
On first boot, the "RECOVERY" FAT partition will be automatically resized to a minimum, and a list of OSes that are available to install will be displayed.

HOW TO FORMAT AN SD CARD AS FAT

WINDOWS

For Windows users we recommend formatting your SD card using the SD Association's Formatting Tool, which can be downloaded from sdcard.org. You will need to set "FORMAT SIZE ADJUSTMENT" option to "ON" in the "Options" menu to ensure that the entire SD card volume is formatted, and not just a single partition.

MAC OS

The SD Association's Formatting Tool is also available for Mac users, although the default OS X Disk Utility is also capable of formatting the entire disk. To do this, select the SD card volume and choose Erase with MS-DOS format.

LINUX

For Linux users we recommend gparted (or the command line version parted).

First boot :

Connect your Pi with a Display output , A controller (Mouse or Keyboard) and Power (2a 5v).
On boot it will install raspbian automatically.

Lava has complemented the Etab Xtron with a 7-inch with an IPS Multi-touch display which bears a display resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. It runs on Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system. In order to make the tablet powerful, Lava has provided it with a 1.5GHz Dual-core Cortex A9 processor along with 1GB of RAM and a Mali-400 GPU.

The other features of the Etab Xtron includes a 2-megapixel front facing camera, an 8GB Internal Memory which may be further expanded up to 32GB via Micro SD Card.

On the connectivity front, the Etab Xtron includes USB, 3G and Wi-Fi as its features. It has been fueled with a 3500 mAh battery.

ROOT WHAT IS IT?

Rooting is allowing you to have full access to the root files of your device so that you have full control over what and how your device operates. In other words with Root you can do all sort’s of cool stuff with your phone or tablet by customizing it, modifying it, making backups, removing apps, adding new systems or ROM’s, and you can have multiple systems on one device.

When you buy a new computer you have “Administrator Privileges ” which mean you can do anything you want to change your computer. Unfortunately when you buy a phone, you do not have those same privileges. The major phone carriers do not want you to have that control. You have applications and processes running on your phone that you cannot stop or remove. We think this is wrong. Rooting your phone allows you to use a “Root Only” applications that are on the Google Play store, these applications need “Permission” and when you have Root you can either Allow or Deny that Permission.

Rooting also allows you to install custom recoveries to do backups or remove and install an entirely new ROM or operating system on your smartphone or tablet. Rooting is also different from ” Jailbreaking ” on an Iphone because Apple’s OS is closed source and so Jailbreaking only allows the user to use a different market or store of apps, you still cannot change the operating system and you do not have access to the Root files. Android is ” Open Source ” and we can change everything, well almost everything.

Downloads:

Lava Xtron JB7 root

Instruction:

Download the Lava Xtron JB7 Root package. Unzip the package to your desktop

On your device, go to Settings > Developer Options and enable USB Debugging

Also go to Settings > Storage > Options > USB Computer connection and change it from MTP to Mass Storage

Remove the external SD card on your device, if you've added one

Connect your phone to your PC via the OEM supplied USB cable. Wait till Windows finishes setting up the drivers

Open ADB driver installer. You should ideally get a No Issues Found response. It will automaticaly install your ADB Drivers.

Then open root708dcc and sit back and relax while the tool does its thing

Follow on-screen instructions as an when they come up .

Your device may reboot multiple times during the rooting process. Do not touch or interrupt anything

You can also dump image of the boot and kernel for more developing .

Just click on Dumprom and wait.

Install root checker and click verify.(it will show congratulation you have root access)

That's it. You now have full root access on your Lava ETab Xtron tablet. Enjoy your rooted device and Hack the Heck out of that device!

Make Repeater with any Router | Using Router in WDS mode

What is wireless distribution system (WDS)?
A wireless distribution system (WDS) is a method of interconnecting access points (AP) in a wireless local area network (WLAN) without requiring that they connect through a wired backbone.

The IEEE 802.11 standard defines a distribution system as the infrastructure used to connect access points. To establish a distributed WLAN, two or more access points are configured with the same service set identifier (SSID). Access points configured with the same SSID make up a single logical network within a single Layer 2 broadcast domain, which means that they must all be able to communicate. The distribution system is the method used to connect them so they can do that.

The most common use of a wireless distribution system is to bridge a WLAN spanning two buildings. The simplest WDS consists of two access points configured to forward messages to each other, working in conjunction with an antenna that enables line-of-sight communication.

In a wired distribution system, APs typically connect through an Ethernet switch.

The device I used is

First check on your manufacturer website If it have any Update for firmware .

Go to system tools >Firmware Upgrade Then select the image (It must be in .bin format).

Now Lets get on Go to >Network>Lan

Change the IP address to 192.168.1.10 or to anything from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.100

Then Head to Wireless>Wireless Setting

Click on the Enable WDS Bridging and this form will pop out after that click on survey button! (It will find all the APs near).

Wireless>Wireless Setting>Survey

You will see a list of Acess points ,Click connect to the your AP.Then you will back at wireless setting just put your password at and press save.

Then head to DHCP>DHCP Setting

Press the disable button and you are done (DHCP allots IP address to all the devices in the LAN and the AP will do it so no need to bug this router.)

Press save and voila !

Share Wifi Internet in Linux Ubuntu | Make a Infrastructure Wifi hotspot Ubuntu

As many of you know, most of our android (not only android) devices can't connect to ad hoc hotspots. There's a solution for win7/8 users to set up infrastructure hotspot on their laptop using software like connectify and so on. Ubuntu also allows to create wifi hotspot to share internet, but it will be ad hoc one.
So here's the guide how to set up infrastructure hotspot on Ubuntu. Unlike some other methods described on the internet, this one will not break default network manager.

Note - This need two wifi adapter in a device!

I have a

and inbuilt Atheros AR9285.

1. First of all you should make sure, that your wifi adapter supports infrastructure hotspots. If you used connectify on your windows system and it worked, skip this step.

open terminal and type: sudo lshw | less

find -network section and make sure that driver is ath5k or ath9k, this solution will only work for those drivers, but should fit the needs for the most laptop users.

2. We now need to install 2 additional tools to make out hotspot, 1st one is hostapd(hotspot server), 2nd one is dnsmasq(dns dhcp server)

in terminal type: sudo apt-get install hostapd dnsmasq

3. stop those services if started already, and prevent them from starting on system start up.

in terminal type:
sudo service hostapd stop
sudo service dnsmasq stop
sudo update-rc.d hostapd disable
sudo update-rc.d dnsmasq disable

4. Now we need to set up config files.
in terminal type: sudo gedit /etc/dnsmasq.conf
or sudo kate /etc/dnsmasq.conf if you use kde

add those lines to the config file

5. hostapd config

in terminal type: sudo gedit /etc/hostapd.conf

and add those lines

You can change ssid name and password for anything you want here. Current config will create hotspot named Hacktheheck with hacktheheckpassword.

6. Now create anywhere you want a file named start.sh
edit it with any text editor like this:

You will probably need to change wlan1 to wlan0 or Something else (or any other number which refers to your wired connection.

7. Last step. Now you can start your hotspot by starting our script. just run it using sudo sh
for me it looks like this sudo sh /home/viper/Desktop/start.sh because I have it on my desktop.

Click on the file,and modify the binary values to 00 00 00 08.This fools the system into believing that you have 128MB video RAM.Then select only the ‘emulate hw tnl caps’ option.Do not select any other.Select ATi Radeon 9800.Click on Run.

Hack Facebook To View Private profile Pictures

Well we all are sometimes curious to see personnel pictures of someone but couldn't do so cause it is unfortunately protected and there's no way we could find it out .I have just found a hack to view private Facebook profile which i would be sharing in this article.

This hack will add a link above such photos with a link saying “See this Photo in its Album”. Clicking this link will reload the photo, but you’ll be viewing it inside the album that you couldn’t view without this hack.
When you are viewing photos in an album the Greasmonkey script will add an option "Back to the album" This will remove the photo from the page and load a thumbnail gallery of all photos in the album

Requirements:

1.Greasmonkey addon for firefox
2.Facebook profile viewing script

Procedure:

1.First of all download Greasmonkey addon and restart firefox
2.Install the Facebook profile viewing script

3.Click install and restart firefox and you are done.

The Largest DDOS Attack That Almost Took Down The Internet

Well we all were pretty upset with our internet speeds in last several days and probably blaming our service providers... But there's no fault of your service provider but indeed a DoS attack which damped the internet throughout the globe.

Recently, the largest DDOS attack in the history of the internet has been noticed, According to the reports from various websites; the attack was of more than 300GB/second. It all started when Spamhaus(NON PROFIT ORGAZNIATION) that manages the spam filters for various websites blacklisted a Dutch based webhosting company Cyberbunker, Cyberbunker allows a user to host everything else than Child pornography and stuff related to terrorism. This allows an attacker to host any malicious software such as botnet. A botnet can be used for variety of purposes ranging from stealing credit card information, infecting PC's to even denial of service attacks.
In a interview with bbc, Spamhaus blamed the Cyberbunker for the ongoing attacks, they said that Cyberbunkers have joined hands with attackers to perform DDOS attacks in order to compromise the availability.

The attack was a Denial of service attacks, which is often used by attackers to compromise the availability of the website by flooding the website with huge number of packets (In most cases), The DDOS attack was aimed at the DNS servers of Spamhaus, A DNS server is responsible for the translation of an IP address to domain name, In simple words, When we are accessing any website on the internet, on the back end we are actually accessing the IP address, DNS simplifies the process.

The experts call the attack as the biggest DDOS attack in the history of the internet, Normally, when we talk about a massive DDOS attack against huge infrastructures, It ranges from
30 to 50 GB per second of traffic, however this attack was more than 300gbps per traffic. The company moved to Cloudfare (A web performance and security company) in order to protect their services from been taken down, Initially they were receiving 10GBPS of traffic, but it got even the worse the attack and the highest peak noted was around 300GBPS. However, instead of going after Spamhaus the attackers targeted Cloudfare itself, the attackers failed to knock Cloudfare servers, even after a 100GIGS of traffic, after that they targeted the bandwidth providers of Cloudfare known as "Tier2", who itself buy bandwidth from Tier1 provider. The major traffic load was carried out by Tier1, which reported more than 300GBPS of traffic, making it the largest DDOS attack ever.

Now, one might think that, how is it slowing down the internet?, it's because, this is how the internet works as internet is simply a collection of networks, Let's say, when we are connecting to google.com from Pakistan, our browser sends a http requests, the browser sends/receives a packets which are hopped across lots of routers/networks in between until they reach the Google servers. As mentioned previously Tier2 buys bandwidth from Tier1, Tier1 connects to other Tier1 providers to ensure that all the networks are connected with each other.Tier1 providers are the core of the internet, the Tier1 provider ended up suffering all the traffic. It is reported by Cloudfare that Tier1 providers for Europe were affected, as a reason of which, internet slowdown was noticed for people surfing the internet in those areas.
The whole internet would have been compromised if those bandwidth providers losses their feet...

Buying a budget Tablet | Things to remember.

Why getting a low cost off brand tablet is not such a great idea.

Anyone looking for a cheap tablet would find that there are dozens to choose from. The market is flooded with Chinese make tablets from as low as Rs 3000 to up to 10000. Most of us get lured seeing the price tag thinking what could possibly go wrong. Well a lot actually. Getting these tablets isn’t such a great idea after all due to plenty many reasons.

This is exactly what I’m talking about.

#No Google Play Store (Market)

Yup that’s right. Even though these tablets come with Android operating system on board, majority of them wont have access to Google Play Store (Google market). That means no access to Angry Birds, Temple Run, Facebook or another 500,000 apps on the market. Though they might come bundled with their own markets to provide apps, you can pretty much forget finding quality apps in there. List of Play Store's rival.

#No Software updates

As if not providing access to the Play Store wasn’t enough, here comes another shocker. You can expect to be stuck on the same version of android for an eternity (that is if the tablet is able to last over a few years). Most of these tablets come with Android 2.2 or 2.3 and getting ICS or even minor updates is out of the equation. You get what you buy and sadly that is how it stays forever. Don’t expect guys at xda to bail you out either.

#No warranty/ Cheap build quality

Though these tablets might work fine when you get them, the real problem starts after some time. The components used in these tablets are of inferior quality and degrade much sooner than those found in branded tablets. For instance the battery backup would degrade significantly in a few months. The cheapest tablets come with resistive touch screens instead of capacitive ones and these are frankly terrible to use. Also these tablets usually come without warranty of any kind. So once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.

Though these tablets make bold claims on spec sheets, truth is quite the opposite. If you are looking for a decent tablet that would last you another 2 years atleast, it is recommended to go for branded ones. You can find brands like HCL or Reliance tablet for around 10000 and they offer warranty as well as access to Play Store.

A 15-year-old hacker convicted of multiple felonies was handed an unusual sentence by a Long Beach, California juvenile court on Wednesday, one that will see him all but banned from the internet until his twenty-first birthday.

The hacker's real name was not disclosed because he is a minor, but according to a report, he goes by the handles "Cosmo" or "Cosmo the God."

As a member of the notorious UG Nazi hacker collective, Cosmo participated in an online reign of terror involving many of the year's most significant hacking events, including a DDoS attack that brought down Twitter for several hours.

Cosmo was finally nabbed in June, following a coordinated law enforcement action that also led to 23 other arrests, spread across eight US states and 13 countries. He was eventually arraigned on a laundry list of charges, ranging from credit card fraud, to identity theft and online impersonation, to making bomb threats.

Had he stood trial and been convicted, he faced a sentence of three years in prison. Instead, he pleaded guilty to all of the charges against him, in exchange for a six-year probation that will allow him to avoid incarceration – for a price.

Under the terms of his plea bargain agreement, Cosmo cannot use the internet without the prior consent of his parole officer, for the duration of his probation. Even then, he cannot go online "in an unsupervised manner," and he cannot use the internet for anything but education-related purposes.

Furthermore, he must turn over the usernames and passwords for all of his online accounts, and if he has access to any devices that are capable of connecting to a network, he must identify them to the court in writing. The devices the court already knows about – the ones that were seized in the FBI raid on his home – won't be returned.

Finally, Cosmo is to have no contact with any members of UG Nazi or Anonymous, nor their associates, nor a list of "other individuals," as specified by the court.

Violate any of those terms, and he goes straight to the slammer for the full three-year bid.

To do this
• Open any folder containing files that you want to rename.

• Select the files you want to rename.
If the files you want are not adjacent in the file list, press and hold Ctrl, and then click each item to select it.

• On the File menu, click Rename.

• Type the new name, and then press ENTER.

• All of the files in the series will be named in sequence using the new name you type. For example, if you type ABCD, the first will be named ABCD and subsequent files in the series will be named ABCD(1), ABCD(2), and so on.

• To specify the starting number for the series, type the starting number in parentheses after the new file name.

The files in the series will be numbered in
sequence starting with the number you type.

To disable the display of local or networked drives when you click My Computer

go to : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Now in the right pane create a new DWORD item and name it NoDrives. Now modify it's value and set it to 3FFFFFF (Hexadecimal) Now press F5 to refresh.

When you click on My Computer, no drives will be shown. To enable display of drives in

My friend just bought this tablet and the first thing he was whining about was that it only supports tata photon dongle which will cost him rs 500 more...

So we worked up to check if other dongles could work or not, he has a MTS dongle (CDMA ZTE AC2746 ) and I have a Idea netsetter (Airtel Huawei E1550 unlocked). It was not even hard to connect these dongles ...Try these steps

Steps to follow:-

For Idea Netsetter

1. Connect the Mini 2 USB connector to the port on your funbook

2. Connect the other end of the Mini 2 USB connector with the USB dongle.

3. When I plugged in the USB dongle , the connection is established automatically.

For MTS dongle

1. Connect the Mini 2 USB connector to the port on your funbook

2. Connect the other end of the Mini 2 USB connector with the USB dongle.

3. Go to Menu>>Settings>>Wireless & Network>>More.

4. Select Mobile Networks and then check Data Enabled option and select the Access Point Names to select from available list. If your connections APN is not available then create one for your connection.

*MTS settings->

APN --> sp.mts

username --> internet@internet.mtsindia.in

password --> 123

Dial number --> #777

MCC -->302

MNC --> 660.

Then simply connect.... :)
