Come along to our Olympic themed Performing Arts Student Show

Hackney Community College students will be performing in ‘Four Corners’, an Olympic themed end of year show by our Performing Arts classes.

Covering the themes of determination, equality, inspiration and courage the show promises to be great entertainment for the whole family.

Our main performance will be on Thursday 28th June at Stoke Newington Town Hall but you are also welcome to join us at our dress rehearsal on 25th June at 4pm at Queensbridge Sports and Community Centre.

If you have good industry qualifications and training experience, combined with vocational competency, then this recruitment event is ideal for you!

Trainer Assessors are needed on a portfolio payment and hourly paid basis to deliver and assess vocational qualifications in the workplace and work-related programmes at the College. HCC Summer Roadshow - Hackney One Carnival @ Clissold Park

HCC’s Summer Roadshow will be at Clissold Park from 1pm as part of the Hackney One Carnival. Please come and say hello!

HCC staff and student ambassadors will be in Cissold Park, Hackney, as part of the vibrant Hackney One Carnival fun day in the park which starts at 1pm on Sunday 7th August.

All visitors to the stall will be given a free goodie bag, so please tell your friends and family to come and say hello!

Make sure you secure a spot on the carnival route and watch Hackney’s streets come to life as the procession departs from Ridley Road market at 12 noon.

HCC’s Summer Roadshow will be at The N1 Shopping Centre Islington providing advice on our Sixth Form, College and Training courses starting in September – have a break from your shopping and come and say hello!

BTEC National Performing Arts Auditions

If you’re seriously interested in developing skills in dance, acting, musical theatre and circus skills, come along and audition for a place on the BTEC National Performing Arts course staring in September 2011.

It’s the perfect course for people who want to progress onto dance and drama schools and universities. Recent students have won places at East 15, Rose Bruford and Urdang & Guildford School of Acting.

Auditions are in the form of movement and acting workshops and last approximatley 45 minutes. Dance and acting audition pieces can be prepared but are not essential.

Open Mic Competition

A great chance for you to perform live this summer at the College.

Make sure you get involved!

Individual and group entries are welcome – it can be anything from singing to poetry. The maximum performance time is 5 minutes and it must be suitable for all ages to listen to.

Short course: Understanding Stewarding at Spectator Events: get a guaranteed job interview!

Aged 16-18? Want to work for a security company in London during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games? Or at another prestigious event?
Successful completion of this course will guarantee you a job interview with a security contractor!

The qualification is ideal for anyone aged 16-18 who is considering a career in stewarding at spectator events.

This short course is open to current HCC students and other interested 16-18 year-olds.

To work at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, you must be 18+ by 1st July 2012.
All graduates of this course will have opportunities to work within the security industry at a range of events leading up to London 2012. Students have already taken part in activities at Wimbledon, Cheltenham and Epsom race courses, the Tour of Britain Cycle Race, football clubs, the Ryder Cup in Wales and the Royal Wedding!

VQ Day 2011

VQ Day is a national celebration of vocational qualifications for students, teachers and employers. The 4th annual VQ Day is taking place nationwide on 22 June 2011. The main celebration event is happening at Westminster Kingsway College, London.

VQ Day was launched in 2008 to raise the status of practical and vocational learning and celebrate vocational achievement. In 2009, Hackney Community College hosted the second VQ Day and welcomed a host of MPs, celebrities and other colleges to the Shoreditch Campus.

The fourth annual VQ Day on Wednesday 22 June 2011 will recognise the value of vocational qualifications and celebrate vocational achievement.Vocational qualifications (VQs) have never been more important to the economy and the individual; they deliver the trained, talented employees businesses are crying out for and ensure young people have the skills needed to succeed in education and work.

The fourth annual VQ Day on Wednesday 22 June 2011 will recognise the value of vocational qualifications and celebrate vocational achievement.

Public Meeting - Changes to education funding

The College is holding a public meeting to discuss the proposed funding cuts to Further Education. The event will start at 5pm and we hope to finish by 7pm.
Groups and indvidiuals welcome.

Threatened changes to further education will affect Hackney’s communities from next September
The Education Maintenance Allowance for 16-18 year old students is to be abolished
Many adult learners will face high fees from September
This includes ESOL students: people who need to study English to improve job chances
As well as these changes in financial support for students, overall funding for colleges will be cut drastically over the next four years.

Apprentice Skills Showcase and Careers Event

Come along and observe construction students from across London taking part in six hour timed challenges. Plus, meet employers at the careers event for top tips about becoming an apprenticeship!

In conjunction with the Olympic Development Authority, HCC construction students will be competing against learners from other host borough colleges in a six hour challenge in the following disciplines:

Brickwork
Carpentry and joinery
Ceramic tiling
Electrical installation
Landscape gardening / hard landscaping skills
Painting and decorating
Plan hire engineering
Plumbing

A careers event will also be running on the day between 11am â” 3:30pm. This will be an excellent opportunity for students to get advice from training providers for Apprenticeships, speak to current Apprentices and potential Employers. This is open to both students attending the Skills Showcase and any other students which maybe attending on the day.

HCC Summer Roadshow - Shoreditch Festival

HCC is starting off its summer roadshow at the Shoreditch Festival. Please come and say hello!

HCC is really pleased to be involved with the Shoreditch Festival once again this year. We will have a festival stall along the Regent’s canal on Sunday 17th July from 1-6pm. Come and find us in Zone C on Denne Terrace.

Representatives will be providing information about courses, enrolment and giving away exciting goodie bags!

Shoreditch Festival 2011 is free to all and takes place across towpaths, green spaces, basins, bridges and a whole raft of unusual spaces alongside the Regentâs Canal between Shoreditch Park and Victoria Park from 16 to 24 July 2011.

Courses for everyone….make sure you come along and enrol!

With hundreds of courses for school leavers and adults, there’s no better place to study than Hackney Community College. Come along and enrol at Shoreditch Campus, Falkirk Street, London N1 6HQ.

If you miss our main enrolment, it’s not too late! You can still come along until Friday 23 September, but places are going quickly on some courses.
Monday â” Thursday: 9:30am-7pm
Friday: 9:30am-4pm

What to bring with you to Enrolment

To help your enrolment to go as smoothly and quickly as possible, please bring the following relevant items with you:

Proof of previous qualifications such as GCSEs. We need to see your certificates and / or exam slips.

If you are not a British or European Union National you must bring evidence of your right of abode in the UK.

If your employer is paying your fees â” or if you are being sponsored by an organisation, you must bring a letter from your employer or sponsor confirming they will be paying your fees.

ULN) UNIQUE LEARNER NUMBER: if you are aged between 16-18 you may have been given a Unique Learner Number when you left secondary school; please bring this with you to enrolment if you have it.

National Record of Achievement.

If you are applying for a fashion, media or art course, leading to a qualification, you will need to show a portfolio of your work.

Art Exhibition & Fashion Show

A series of exciting art exhibitions and fashion shows are taking place from Tuesday 6th to Friday 9th July at HCC – all welcome!

Tuesday 6th July, 5-9pm – Art Exhibition Private View

Pandora (Arcola Theatre, Arcola St, London, E8)

Pandora is a play written by Hackney resident Jennie Buckman. HCC’s performing arts students worked with the actors throughout rehersals.

Pandora is a two-hour show written by Hackney resident Jennie Buckman, which presents a series of five interlinked plays with Hackney at the heart of the story.

HCC’s performing arts students worked closley with the actors, inputting into rehersals, and using their own life experiences to help change sections in the play and comment on the issues in hand.

Pandora runs daily until 12 June 2010.

VQ Day 2010

VQ Day 2010 will take place on 23 June 2010 at the Royal Horticultural Halls, London.

Representatives from Hackney Community College will be attending the 2010 event at the Royal Horticultural Halls, London.

Millions of people gain a vocational qualification every year as a stepping stone to further study, better jobs and enhanced skills. VQ Day was launched in 2008 to raise the profile of vocational qualifications and celebrate vocational success.

VQ Day 2009 was hosted at Hackney Community College to help celebrate vocational qualifications. Students from the London City Hospitality Centre and fashion and textiles departments took part in interactive zones which were viewed by a number of VIPs, including MPs and celebrity chef, James Martin.

Guild of Bricklayers London Regional Craft Competition

Students from across London will be competing in the Guild of Bricklayers London Regional Craft Competition at the College.

Hackney Community College is proud to be hosting the Guild of Bricklayers London Regional Competition this year. Competitors from across the capital will come together to show off their skills to top industry judges.

The Shoreditch Campus of the College is a really appropriate setting for this competition, as the buildings are a showcase for both modern and Edwardian bricklaying. The Campus used more than 1 million bricks and it won the prestigious Brick Building of the Year when it opened. We are proof that brick is beautiful!
