During the first ever ‘Evening of Exploration” last night, National Geographic announced the winners of their inaugural Explorers of the year 2011 awards. At this event, a corporation and three individuals received appreciation for their attempts and hard work in different fields.

Environments anthropologist Kenny Broad and underwater photographer Wes Skiles were the receivers of the 2011 Explorers of the Year award, they received the award for their efforts in recording and exploring the Blue Holes of Bahamas in 2010. The theme of the evening was “Oceans” and it the choice was perfect.

Kenny Board is a profession at the Rosenstiel School of Atmospheric Science and Marine, at the University of Miami’s Leonard and Jayne Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy, he servers as a director. He is also the co-director for the Center for Research on Environmental Decisions at Columbia University. He is specialized in the study of the communication between humans and their environment or surroundings.
