Before I begin again, an apology.

While starting this blog, I took haiku to be a pretty standard, pretty, gimmicky sort of poetry. I've been reading recently and discovered the beginnings of Haiku and it's ties to nature and the deep meanings behind it. I'm going to be focusing more on meaning in the poem itself, and expanding in the articles. The humour will still be there, just with a better, more realistic poem to begin it.

Misanthropic man,

Miserable yet somehow

A lovable guy.

I used to think I loved House, but after watching Blackadder and Fry and Laurie, I think it's Hugh Laurie I like. The man has such a way of acting different roles, and an ability to make any role his own. Of course, House is an amazing television show, and kind of relevant to my interests, being about medicine and containing some psychology elements, such as V.S. Ramachandran's Mirror Box treatment for phantom limb pain, explained in more depth here. It's sad that Robert Sean Leonard won't be in the next series, but hopefully he'll be back.

One last note, this album is quite amazing as well.

My absolute favourite Simpson's episode tells the story of Homer, self proclaimed Pope of Chili-Town, taking on the best his fellow Springfieldians can offer in the Annual Chili Cook-Off. He devours all, until Chief Wiggum presents Homer with 'Guatemalan Insanity Peppers', amazingly named 'The Merciless Peppers of Quetzalacatenango.' He then trips out, and what follows is, in my opinion, one of the greatest comedy scenes in TV history. (It also has a Johnny Cash voiceover, an added bonus.)

Clouds drift aimlessly,

Grey and sorrowful.

I love rain clouds. I've said it before but looking out of my window at them, they're so easy to love. They look so sorry for themselves, and just drift about dumping rain whenever they feel like it. I spent the afternoon watching and wondering where the clouds I could see had been, and where they have been. I think I have too much imagination.

What is up with that, seriously? Hi there, just letting you know with every forwarded e-mail, that I am superior to you. What is the need for for the little message at the end reminding people you have an iPhone. It's a great marketing tool, granted, considering the amount of people sending email on a daily basis, yet on the odd occasion I do send email, I find myself always deleting the footer for fear of seeming an... I guess, insufferable braggart. Maybe I'm just old fashioned.

Also, my Internet is dead, so I'm writing this in the library. There won't be as many updates in the next few days or so, but I'm quite optimistic I can still post once a day.

BB sales figures

News from todays WWDC conference indicates Apple have started listening to consumers. The long awaited rival to BBM was released, and in my opinion, will damage Blackberry sales massively. A lot of people I know have Blackberry's purely for Messenger, so with Apple releasing a rival version with iOS5.0, I can't see them sticking with BB after their next upgrade.

The iPhone is the first smartphone I had, and aside from one small (OK, large) battery failure, I've found it to be perfect. Admittedly had to buy a case and was given a completely new phone for the battery fault, but due to the backing up system on sync, it wasn't a great inconvenience. I'd fully recommend it to anyone whose phone and mp3 player dies at the same time and needs a replacement for both.

I LOVE to read. I'll read almost any book put in front of me, bar the notable exception of some boring vampires that sparkle in the light. If I had a clubhouse I think the sign would be this:

My favourite book that I've read recently is Matterhorn, by Karl Marlantes. It shows a really in-depth, albeit fictional but based on real experience, view of the Vietnam War from a former US soldier. The way it personifies soldiers and the Viet people was very moving to me. I'd highly recommend it.

I'm going to stop blogging for today in a bit, start working on some of my other pressing matters. But I'm really enjoying this so far, and noticed I've had page views from Germany and the USA already!

I wouldn't say readers, they probably took one look and ran away :P

Rafael Nadal won the French Open again. I love sport. I love sport so much, in fact, that it probably should have been a reason to start blogging, so I could have a medium to share my views on sport which everyone else stopped listening to long ago and just nod grudgingly when I start on a rant because Ashley Cole is regarded as a good Left Back...

Wimbledon soon, may try grabbing myself a ticket or just turning up, queuing and hoping for a decent match on one of the outside courts. You never know, it could be Isner v Mahut quality all over again.

The rain through my window

I've always loved the rain. I love the noise, I love the smell, I love the feel and atmosphere it brings. I always found grey clouds to be of more interest than white ones, they stretch on for as far as the eye can say, like some sombre blimp, yet contain such joy inside them. I would probably go as far as to say that rain is my favourite weather type, in small doses. Large amounts is obviously unsustainable and causes flooding, which is bad. To summarise, rain is like ice cream. Fantastic in small doses, and potentially keeping you up all night if there's too much.

HI!

Okay, I'll freely admit that that first haiku is not going to win any prizes. But then, neither will any of my haiku. I primarily blog about things I see, and things I feel and think. To anyone else, it may well seem like inane ramblings, but to me, it's my way of dealing with my day.

I set up this blog as a way of communicating my love of all things Haiku and Geek. My inspiration came from a website called http://www.geeksaresexy.net/ which is completely safe and often quite a good fun source of clean, interesting news about science, tech and whatever else takes their fancy.
