Apparently, genital waxing has always been illegal by New Jersey state statutes, which only allow waxing of the face, neck, arms, legs, and abdomen, although as Philly.com reports, almost every salon in South Jersey has been breaking the law for years—and charging $50 to $60 a session while they’re at it. The proposed ban was apparently prompted by complaints from two women who were injured and hospitalized after a recent depilatory episode, and has since caused a regional uproar. The board meets again on April 14 to decide the fate of the well-manicured members of the Garden State, but in the interim, New York- and Philadelphia-area salons should prepare for an onslaught of new clients should the ruling be passed.

After two injuries due to Brazilian bikini waxes in the state of New Jersey, the state Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling is looking to ban genital bikini waxing completely. The two women who received injuries were hospitalized after developing infections from the cosmetic waxing.

The New Jersey Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling has regulations stating what parts of the body are permitted to be waxed within state boarders, which include face, neck, abdomen, legs, and arms. Brazilian bikini waxes were never specifically banned so no rules about the service have been enforced in the past. New Jersey is aiming to ban Brazilian waxes, but regular bikini waxes would still be allowed.

A Brazilian bikini wax removes all hair from the genital region while a bikini wax removes hair further from the genital region and poses less possibility of injury to the area. Possible issues that may arise from bikini waxes include ingrown hairs, tearing of the skin, infections, and rashes.

The New Jersey Board of Cosmetology will meet April 14th to decide if they will move forward with the ban. Most salons in New Jersey have the Brazilian bikini wax service available and many salon owners fear no longer providing the service will cause business to suffer.

I was able to watch the live telecast of the 2010 Miss Universe Pageant and I was very satisfied with the show. Yes, Miss Philippines Venus Raj won’t be bringing home the crown but she won 5th place so I think the country should be happy.

This year’s presenting sponsor is Farouk Systems- Makers of CHI- a popular brand of hairstyling tools and hair care products . The Houston-based company is finally the 2010 Miss Universe Pageant’s presenting sponsor after 9 consecutive years of being the official hair care sponsor.

The sponsors page of the 2010 Miss Universe Pageant website links to Farouk Systems. And considering the online popularity of the Miss Universe Pageant site, I can just imagine the overwhelming exposure CHI and Biosilk products are getting right now. Definitely lots of press and exposure after the 9 long years of loyalty.

One of the nicest things about the 2010 Miss Universe Pageant is that the presenting sponsor adds a fresh flavor to it. Aside from the usual commercials, they were given four (4) 30-second spots to feature their products. VP Jason Yates and Founder and Chairman Farouk Shami were shown backstage giving 30-second tips on hair care and hairstyling . They also did the laugh-out-loud hilarious CHI Ninja feature and you can watch it on YouTube here.

I really liked how the CHI stylists styled Ms. Thailand’s long hair in the first pic — gloriously straight with tiny flips here and there for definition. I wonder what kind of ceramic straightening iron they used since CHI has so many types of straightening irons.
