Just a few years ago the Grand Lodge of Ohio wanted to destroy this building and sell the land for condos. We fought to save it and the Bal Ingenieux was our celebration for the hard work and energy put forth by all the brothers at Halcyon and the Grand Orient USA.

Finally Freemasonry and the Arts have come together once again to create beauty for the sake of beauty itself.

• Joey Molinaro - NYC-based composer, violinist, and fiddler Joey Molinaro first gained attention as a member of the seven-piece experimental chamber-grind outfit “Basilica.” As an acoustic or electric solo artist, he conjures a torrent of riffs over a two-boot foot percussion flurry.

From 1913 to 1946, Cleveland’s Kokoon Arts Club held an annual Bal-Masque known for pushing the limits of the day.  Built in 1931, the Halcyon Lodge was constructed by the Freemasons.  Its mix of auditoriums, ballrooms, and smaller venues makes it perfect for an event that’s part entertainment and part exploration.

Lambda Chi Alpha at Halcyon Lodge

Lambda Chi Alpha is a university fraternity started by Freemasons in the early part of the 20th century. Their rituals and philosophy are very similar to that of Freemasonry due to their Masonic heritage.

Starting in 2012 the members of Lambda Chi Alpha in the City of Cleveland have a new Masonic home at the historic West Side Masonic Temple, hosted by the brothers of Halcyon Lodge No. 498, of the Grand Orient USA. We believe the brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha represent the future of Freemasonry in the United States.

As a college student at Boston University, Bro. Warren A. Cole (Boston 1912) founded Lambda Chi Alpha on November 2, 1909, with the expressed objective purpose of bringing about the association of college students of good moral character in the various collegiate institutions within the United States and Canada; to foster a high moral and spiritual standard of life; to promote honorable friendship; to cultivate intellectual excellence; to secure for members the greatest advantages in college life; to establish brotherly love, mutual aid, close personal connection between alumni, undergraduates and colleges; and, to bind them together for mutual pleasure and interest in college, as well as after life by testing each with courage, self-control, obedience, democracy, and courtesy toward all with whom they may come in contact.

Today, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is one of the largest men’s general fraternities in North America with more than 275,000 initiated members, with nearly 200 active subsidiaries (called chapters) at colleges and universities. It was the first fraternity to eliminate pledging in the early 1970s, and remains a leader in the fight against hazing, alcohol abuse, drugs, and other challenges facing today’s college student.

Lambda Chi Alpha serves as a co-curricular experience to complement higher education by providing young men with opportunities for academic achievement, leadership development, and lifelong friendships.

The Grand Orient USA has put the “Free” back into Freemasonry allowing Freemasons to have Freemasonry their way. The new network of affiliated Masonic lodges created by the Grand Orient USA is changing the way American Freemasonry works by putting the individual Masons and their lodges back in the driver’s seat of the fraternity.

This is the beginning of a long overdue Masonic reformation and renewal in America. We saw it coming back in 2007 when we parted ways with the dying Masonic system represented by the American Grand Lodges and the Conference of Grand Master in North America. It was clear to us that this system was on the brink of collapse, and its happening even faster than we predicted.

Freemasonry 101 is a collaborative effort on the part of Freemasons belonging to lodges represented by CGMNA (Conference of Grand Masters of Masons North America) Masonic franchise and CLIPSAS (Center of Liaison and Information of the Powers and Signatories of the Appeal of Strasbourg) organizations who believe in the need for Masonic reform. It is our hope and intent to restore peace and harmony between our respective Masonic organizations by showing the willingness of brothers from both sides of the Masonic ideological world to work together for the benefit of our beloved Craft. This site is our attempt to to create an unbiased online resource about Freemasonry. It does not take the side of one group over the other, instead it presumes all Masons as equal.

For the purpose of ease of classification of the various Masonic organizations it was decided to use the labels ‘CGMNA’ and ‘CLIPSAS’ to differentiate them. Not all organizations listed as CGMNA or CLIPSAS are actual members of those organizations. For instance the United Grand Lodge of England will be classified as a CGMNA organization because it has amity with them. By classifying Masonic organizations into these two groups we hope that it will be easier for everyone to understand the divide that has separated them for over a century. Prince Hall will be treated independently but as a part of the CGMNA family of organizations. This was necessary for a couple of reasons: 1. Not all Prince Hall organizations are recognized by CGMNA. 2. Prince Hall organizations reach beyond the bounds of the archaic system of territorial exclusivity, and in this way are especially unique.

It’s been a long while since this awesome Masonic website by Bro. Jeff Peace has been online. It is now divided into two separate sites (TracingBoard.com and Freemasonry101.com that are filled with information about the Craft. Many of the newer Masons may not be aware of the old site but it was the reason many people joined the fraternity. The new site is still under development but it looks to be even better than the original. Bro. Peace is an acknowledged authority on Freemasonry, its history and rituals.
