They're called Trendy Peas specialize art for our little mini-me's including wall decals, custom and pre-made art, as well as custom invitations and printing needs.

How Cute???

I would use this not only for babies but toddlers and up to school-aged kids. It's so chic and classic. Very good for people who are planning on using their nursery for more than one baby and want something that is timeless (and will look good for 5 years or more)

What Is a Kilowatt Hour?

1 kWh of energy = running a hot shower for three minutes
50 kWh of energy saved could run your dishwasher 20 times

Old is the new Contemporary

I received my new Restoration Hardware catelogue today and like usual, it's filled with nummy design elements, furniture and fixtures. As I was reading through, I noticed yet another example of what I seem to be seeing all over the place: Old is the new contemporary.

What does that even mean? Well, it is a reference to people using vintage, warn elements as main pieces and accessories in their home. The balance between old world 'charm' and new, modern elements.

Such as this bathroom

The fixtures, although very modern and clean lined are paired with vintage, iron side cabinets. Even the accessories in this space reflect that of an era close to this industrial time.It adds texture (both physical and textural) and breaks up what could easily be too new or too designer.

Accessories and lighting are also referencing this old world feel. These fixtures, both from RH, are clear examples of my point. Referencing the really old into ultra modern spaces.

Corbels are also making their way into nearly every room in the house. Before, Kitchens saw the most corbel-action, usually under an island or shelf for added decorative flair. This time their chunky and large-scale and being used as tables, stands, and accents in the room. This is actually being sold as an end table.

I know that I have blogged about this before, but I love the new 'Country Kitchen'. Particularly, I love the large scale mantel and open shelving. It has the feel of an old bakery to me. Who wouldn't love to have this?

As a designer, it's important to know Balance, and how to properly achieve it. Balance is referencing two or more elements in a space (or connecting space), or combining more than one style (contemporary and old world). Its about having just enough of one element to balance out the second element...its about balancing color....balancing weight....light. It's all about balance.

In Nova Scotia, we are lucky to have some of these elements already lying around our homes, or our parents homes. In an old barn, perhaps. I think this particular blend of Old World/Time and Contemporary has more roots than just visual as well. It's about remembering our history, the quality of the time (in respect to craftsmanship) and enjoying the story it tells.

The Challange

I haven't blogged in some time now- life has been really busy for me!!

I've been working on some clients homes that have exhausted most of my days (pics to come soon!). That and my daughter has been sick every-other-(three)-days with the flu, which in of itself is exhausting. Needless to say, I have lot's to talk about coming up.

The great news is that my husband has FINALLY agreed to get rid of our couch in the main living room. I have been after him for some time now to exchange it for something more 'my style' (that being contemporary). This is a good couch. There's nothing wrong with it- it just doesn't work with our home. I find that I am getting to a point in my home where it is no longer a reflection of who I am and how I want my house to read. So, new couch it is.

Don't get me wrong, this couch has contemporary lines- but not to the level I want. To be honest, I am torn between something ultra sleek and modern- or a total revamp of a classic. I am thinking a early twentith century victorian piece reupholstered in a great leather.
I really love the Tannery faux fabrics from Joanne Fabrics.

My concern is how well it will handle kids. I have a toddler...and we all know what that means. Jumping, spilling juice (hence the leather option), scratches from toys- the poor couch.

My ONLY problem is my husband has given me a challenge. It has to cost $500. Is this even possible? Well, I am going to find out. Obviously, I'm not going to get what I want, but something similar would be nice. Why am I doing this? Well, as a designer, it's my job to do the impossible. Work with the impossible. And I am setting a personal goal to get this couch for $500. Wish me luck.

Inside the Toronto IDS

Well everyone I'm back from Toronto and tired, tired, tired. What a weekend this has been!

The Toronto IDS was a smash to say the least! With over 300 exhibits to check out, this is the place to be if you are a designer or design enthusiast.

The weekend started off with the opening night Gala, featuring a sneak peak at all the exhibits, and of course with all the big name Designers in house.

I was SO honored to meet Sarah Richardson and Samantha Pynn inside the `sibling rivalry` exhibit that Sarah and her brother Theo featured. It just happens to be one of my favorite (of course!)

This is the first room of three the duo completed. I love how it feels so Nova Scotian. All the elements speak that of of a warm, sophisticated cottage. Love the bright red, mix-matched dining chairs as well. This would be so easy for anyone to do - design savvy or not.

This being the second, informal living room and office. The cool tones work very nicely as a middle point to the high-energy bedroom to follow.

I have seen Sarah use this bright yellow before in a bedroom (something most people would not necessarily think to choose). I love how unexpected can seem so right. So comforting.

And I love this lounge. I have been on an antiques kick for a couple of months now, and this speaks my language. I love the V-stripe fabric as well. Subtle and lovely.

Over the course of the weekend several talks were hosted on the main Krups Stage. Literally thousands of people crammed together on louis ghost chairs to hear the latest in design debates.

Now, for the big moment: MY FAVORITES

Right off the bat, and I think a lot of fellow designers would agree, the IKEA booth really grabbed my attention.

Featuring an all black Kitchen...something we don`t really see anymore, with an entire wall of storage, large island and detailed cabinetry. Over the entire installation were various shapes and sizes of pendant lanterns, which broke up all that black and really created a massive focal point. Centered in this beautiful display was the large scale island featuring a leathered-granite. The texture was to die for.

To me, the wall of storage separated by a large mirrored wall which housed a built-in TV by Radian Audio was a show stopper. At first glance, the mirrored wall just looks like that. A nice break in the center of a storage dream. Until the TV is turned on and a hidden plasma shows it`s delight. I really see a movement toward this type of design in homes. TV`s that are either behind glass and installed flush into walls, or TV`s that are hidden behind art. Which brings me to my next favorite.

This gentleman featured his creations of a dual purpose. This television mount sits flush in the wall, and with the slightest pull, comes out and flips around to show either the television or the custom art option. Slick.

Next is this beautiful area rug. I also saw a trend in rugs this year which lend a hand to 'art for the floor'. How much would I love to have this?

For anyone who loves and appreciates tile for what it's worth in artistry, this was the place to be. With new, more daring and contemporary tile available, these were my fav's.

I love this Cedar tile. A beautiful change from the usual.

One thing the IDS did have this year for sure was heat. There were a number of suppliers featuring the newest in Fireplace technology and installations, but I love these outdoor pits.

These large scale fire pits use gas to feed their flame. With just a simple turn of a key (literally) you can control the desired temperature.

Lastly, this Rolls Royce of contemporary Kitchens features a hide-away-kitchen. The sleek design features cabinetry that slides up and down (into the cabinet base for an ultra smooth glide) to expose all the normal functions and features of an everyday kitchen.

Pictured here is the faucet that swings out, as well as the interior cabinet structure. Even the sink is hidden by either a rolling butcher block cutting board option or a stainless steel plate. Either gives the illusion of a simple counter work surface- such as a home office or built-in storage system. Beautiful. Pricey- very pricey- but beautiful.

Some other mentionable displays are below. Who wouldn't want that chandelier??

And I love this kitchen design. It's part island, part fixture, with an arched base. I think this would work lovely in an open concept, contemporary home. The lighting underneath also up's the wow-factor!

Kids Bedrooms: How to conquer the divide

When it comes to designing a shared kids bedroom it can be hard. Especially with an age gap between the two kids sharing. How do you find peace and create a space that works..without having any space???

It's all about compromise!

First, get your kids involved (it's their room after all!!) The best place to start is by asking what colors they want to see; what they like. Nine times out of ten it will most likely be purple (it's the #1 color choice for kids under 16). If not purple, it will be a bold color, like orange, blue, green, or pink. Work with your kids to teach them a valuable lesson- on compromise! Get them to pick 3 colors MAX. From there, you can hit the fabric shops and look for an inspirational piece of fabric that can possibly tie in all 3 colors. If not, choose one of those colors and run with it.

Now this is a purple and pink bedroom done right! Most people would automatically take the color chosen and try to paint the walls that color. This can be very tricky...A safe bet is to take a paint swatch that your kids have chosen and go about 3 shade down the paint swatch. Bold color choices can be too over powering on the walls, so this will keep the integrity of the tone, while being easy on the eyes.

Another good tip is to actually only use the color on a focal wall, or as an accent. In the room above, purple is used sparingly. The back drop is actually a neutral white, but the room reads as purple.

When space is your problem it's important to have your furniture work for you, and not the other way around. Every piece should be able to do double duty. First, divide the room into functions: sleeping, homework, play, etc. From there find pieces that carry out that function but can be easily transformed into a second use. It will save you money and space, while keeping items (like pens, papers, craft supplies, toys, etc.) neat and tidy.

A good idea always is the famous chalkboard paint. It never gets old or ignored. Remember texture and form- kids love things they can touch or that are unexpected. And easy does it on the Disney characters. One or two are fine...it tells something about your child and who they are, but an over load is just that.

Lastly, have fun!! Get your kids involved in the renovation process even more!! Let them paint, create the art for the walls, help re-organize their toys into stations, and make beds. They'll love to feel like part of the process and it's something they can be proud of when they show off their now space to friends.

Kitchen Design Trend: The Farm Table

A Major Influence right now in Kitchens is the introduction of Farm House Tables

The more rustic or vintage the better! It's a great (green) way to reuse or salvage great pieces that can be easily found at flea markets and auctions across the country- Here in Halifax we just happen to have a natural surplus- so make use!!

The rustic Farm Table (or Bakers Table) is making its way into contemporary Kitchens in a BIG way- replacing the typically island. I happen to love this look. To me, it automatically brings a worn, comforting element into what can very easily seem as a cold kitchen. It screams to be used- for everyday cooking- tough enough for the roughest kids and elegant enough to stand up to even the harshest critics. It's a perfect marriage.

Here, the table top has been replaced with stone. A beautiful option. Although this table still has characteristics of modern design, it still carries the weight and stability found in traditional pieces. In this kitchen, the look is paired with salvaged wood shelving that breaks up what otherwise is a very modern, semi-industrial chef's paradise. Beautiful!

I am also seeing the return of the Kitchen table to its right full spot- smack dab in the middle of the kitchen. Being a Maritimer, there is nothing better (or more familiar) than a good old kitchen party- and every family starts and ends the night around the kitchen table. Whether it's homework or paying the bills, chances are it's in the kitchen.

Although I love the look and extra storage that a island provides, this is a lovely break from the norm. With so many options available, you can still have storage for all your needs while bring a little nature back inside. Love it!

'Tiss the season! ...(for new sparkle)

I absolutely love sparkle, glam, shimmer, twinkle, and glitz. Not only do I think every outfit needs a little pazzaz (no matter the season) but so does your home (in every room). From glass mosaic photo frames to bathroom fixtures, it all counts in the wow-department.

In a season over flowing in wow and wonder I'm like an extremely caffeinated tweener, so stoked for Christmas morning. I love shopping downtown- looking at all the beautiful displays and trees decorated around town.

My favorite items are (of course) anything that glimmers, but nothing tops simple, outdoor lights hung around the neighborhood. Why is it that everyones' home just looks so much better with Christmas lights? That to me is Christmas.

For a couple of years now I have had a secret obsession with feathers as well. I even went as far as making a DIY pair of white feather wreaths that I still think is one of my favorite decorations, personally.

I think using feathers has been a designer favorite over the past couple of seasons, but I really would like to see this one stay. To me it's just chic. Classic.
I found this beautiful feather tree at Bouclair that is on my wish list for this year. It is available in white, black and purple. All extremely popular colors for those who like an unconventional Christmas. Next year, I have already decided that I want a white tree, so I am going to jump on the boxing day blowout train and pick up everything I need at 70% off.

It's Beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!

The roads are busier, the malls are crowded, people are starting to put up their outdoor Christmas lights....ahhh, the holidays are here. I love the holidays personally. Every year I get really excited to decorate my house just the way I like, to throw our annual Christmas party with our closest friends and family, to bake unreal amounts of high calorie goodies and start new traditions with my husband and daughter (this year being my daughter's first Christmas makes it even better!) All that, with a little Sinatra in the background- life can't get better. Well, maybe with some Baileys.

So keeping with the holiday spirit, here are some of my tips to get you through decorating- without blowing your budget

1. Take Inventory

Look at what you already have in storage. Every year it seems that with new trends and really well done retail displays we can get caught up in buying new items that we feel we MUST have, when in reality, we don't. I think vintage ornaments are not only beautiful but chances are they tell a story. Maybe one you could share over while entertaining...

2. Pick a scheme and stick with it.

It only takes a few minutes to take a step back and plan out what you would like to see this year; both indoor and out. Whatever you dream, stick to just a few colors and make sure they all fit the same theme. For example, if you are going for a traditional, country Christmas...keep accessories and decor within that theme. Don't place every item you have in storage out just because you have it.

3. Think outside the traditional box

Sure, Christmas is primarily traditional, but that doesn't mean you can't be creative. When making your festive wreath for example, step outside your comfort level and try something unexpected. Pretty much anything in a smaller scale can be wrapped or strung along a foam wreath. Try flowers, oranges, herbs...anything that might give your guests the 'wow, that's unusual' factor as they walk into your home.

4. Christmas isn't all red and green

A lot of people try gold, silver or blue, but there is a full spectrum of colors to try. This years' popular colors would be purple which is making its way into Christmas, naturally. Same goes for bright green or pink. I might try orange this year...why not?

5. Relax, it's the holiday's after all.

Nobody like a host or hostess running around, trying to be Joan Cleaver. Relax. Take time to plan out what you would like to accomplish this season, and be reasonable about it. Things pop up in life, people stop by. Try to do as much as you can in advance (this includes baking, which can be frozen) and make sure that you enjoy yourself this year. Your family and friends will not remember how your house looks, just the memories of a great holiday.

That's what it's all about right?

Ballard Designs! I have just discovered the beauty of Ballard Designs- a US based retailer, and I have to say that I could eat every piece of their collection up!!

How gorgeous is this Waldorf chandelier?? With a whopping 12 lights...how could you resist?

Or the lovely Louis Daybed. I have always been a fan of daybeds- for their functionality, but this piece in particular has so many uses. I would work in almost any style or space.

And MY personal fav:

The Chesterfield Loveseat. I have been on a Parisian kick lately and this would fit perfectly in my home. To me, it's a perfect balance of history and sophistication with a modern feel. Love, Love, Love it. And want it....who wants to buy it for me?? Huh? Huh? ...any takers??

I have to say that everything Ballard Design has to offer is beautiful. They have everything from furniture, to accessories, to linens and seasonal items. I just wish they were available in Canada.

Bigger and Better! Sima, Naturally

I am so sorry that I have been away from my blogging duties for what seemed like forever- but I can promise it was all in the name of design and even bigger and better things to come!
I am excited to announce that this blog is growing- and with it the scale and content I will be covering. Although this blog is and will always be focused on design found and available to Haligoians, I will be broadening my horizons to include much much more!
I will be now covering everything to do with design (naturally), fashion, events and anything that catches my creative buzz. I am so excited that this blog can continue to grow and change, and with it - myself.

Homage to: The Farmers Market

I think it's about time that I mention a staple here in Halifax: The original Farmers Market.
Such an amazing place that really speaks volumes to what characterizes this city. The old, historic buildings feels so right for this space. A space where every Saturday morning you can literally roll out of bed, grab your re-usable tote bag and venture down to Mary's breadbasket- grab a coffee and a delicious Cinnamon bun and wake up in history.

It's so nice to think that once upon a time (and still to this day) this building was the Alexander Kieth's' brewery. In a time when Halifax was starting to recover its architecture, people would travel here to get their beer (something us maritimers know like the back of our hands), we now go to get fresh, locally produced and organic fruits, veggies, meat, soap, ...the list goes on. This place truly is amazing.

This is my favorite 'room' of the entire venue. In a space that seems to go on forever in twisty-turvy paths, this is the center hub. The same patrons park their stands and set up their veggies every week. Walking into this soaring room makes me feel so Halagonian every time. I can just makes me feel like we're in the old-world again. The old, exposed brick and the factory windows are all original. Beautiful.

A hot-spot of tourists, and a weekly favorite for yummy Chinese food for breakfast, this market also features brilliantly crafted items from local artists. You can purchase jewelery, wood works, clothing, and art all from local talent. Its a great place to get a piece commissioned, say.

There is now a new, more modern, second Halifax Farmers market opened. It catches the overflow from this busting location, but I still prefer this one. This will always be my Halifax staple.

New! Technology in the Home

My husband is obsessed with finding the newest gadgets andtechnologies around which got me thinking about our future. What will our homes be like with the ever-evolving technology world?
I keep having flash backs to Tom Cruise in 'Minority Report'- with all the futuristic touch computer screens, the chip cards that replace CD's and DVD's....holograms...the whole nine.

Will our homes really be that futuristic??
To me, that seems a bit cold. Sure, it's nice to have the luxuries that home technology has brought, but there has to be balance. I think as a designer, it's our job to marry the two: home with technology. We need to find that balance where you can still come home after a long days work and feel you're at home....just maybe greeted by a voice as you walk through the door, that has already turned on your lights for you (just the way you like it) as soon as it detects your thumb-print on your fingerprint deadbolt.

Today, there are hundreds of products already available to improve your home life, but where is the future going? The media is directing us to a couple main directions: green, social networking, 3D, and touch screen technologies.

Green design is no new concept to 2010. By all means, there is no acceptable reason why homeowners and builders should not choose to do business with a green and sustainable attitude. For example, Green Concrete is one new product that Technology Review has named as one of their Top 10 items that could change our future. This new concrete dramatically reduces the amount omissions during production, trumping the competition.

This product, the HRHC mirror technology, is available on the market now...along with numerous competitors, all promising the ultimate luxury- watching TV while brushing your teeth! Seriously, the streamline installation does impress me. I am not really a fan of visible TV's in a bathroom but this is nice. Not only can you watch TV but some brands will even update you on the latest stocks, weather, your daily calender..whatever you want. There are also touchscreen mirrors available as well.

Toshiba has hit it out of the park (literally) with their ZX900 series cell TV...it has amazing technology all around with the added bonus of 3D home television! So get your glasses...a good Blue Ray 3D and enjoy the thrill of the theater at home. A big trend hitting everywhere...including your mobile device...coming soon.

Lastly, a big trend that researchers are leaning on is the ever-complicated and saturated Social Networking. Everything from Facebook to Twitter is all being sold to large search engines like Google, for example, to become broken down information for real-time results in you're next search query. What does this mean to you're home? Well basically, that your gadgets get cooler. Check this out!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast Cancer affects millions of women and families across this country. Living in the Maritimes, we have one of the highest cancer rates in Canda. In honor of this amazing cause, do yourself a favor and get to know your Ta-Ta's!!

Halloween!

Hey everyone! I hope life is treating you well and that you have caught the fall decorating bug by now!
The leaves have turned, it's harvest in the valley (I just got back yesterday from apple picking in the Valley-stay tuned for pics!) and Halloween is on it's way!!

This year, my husband and I are keeping with our new tradition in our new home by going over the top in our Halloween decor to scare every kid in our neighborhood. Last year we bought our home in just in time for Halloween and thought it would be a great way to introduce ourselves to the area- it was a bit over the top I will admit- but it's also one of our favorite holidays, so why not? We were use to having large parties with our closest friends when we had lived downtown in our chic little apartment, and moving to the suburbs meant that our parties would most likely be tamed down a little (not to mention that I was five months pregnant). So over the top decor, including full installations in our foyer and sound effect it was.

This year, we are going to take a more refined method, while still adding some gore and fright. Stay tuned for pics

When decorating for Halloween you can either go two ways in my books: cheesy or sophisticated. I choose the later. Although there are some great accessories and traditions that are always classic and can be a family favorite, why not use some creativity and give it a more modern twist?

Keep anything Gothic in mind. Think in a deep color palate of deep greens, purples, gold and reds. Anything metal or deeply rustic will do. Goblets, silver plates, candle sticks, wooden stools or benches, table cloths and wall-hung tapestries are all testimonial of this time. Also glass- think filled bio-lab.

Mood is also a big factor. Keep lighting dim or by candle light. Use heavy velvets or thick woven textiles with your decor. You can also juxtapose your holiday with the harvest and your overall fall decor. Apples, grapes, pears, etc. can all be presented with your holiday finds- displayed on a pedestal like above- which would be totally characteristic of the Gothic era. And don't forget the wine of course ;)

I also love to the idea of using branches and other nature inspired items into your space. It gives it a truly haunted and over grown feel to me.

I also love using spooky floral arrangements with deep reds, purples and even black colored flowers.

You don't have to even spend any money! Take a look around your home- inside and out- and see what you could re-interpret into scary. Use spray paint, glitter, mirrors, picture frames, lanterns, dead flowers and weeds, ANYTHING- I hope that I have inspired you to think outside the Dollar Store box this year!

Fall Cleaning?

The weather is getting colder and colder everyday and all I can do is think about how much house work I have! After a busy summer as usual, a seven month old baby, a four year old niece, a moose-of-a-husband and a sister living with me for the moment, my To-Do List has taken a back seat (and drove away).

If you're finding yourself in a similar situation and want to be proactive but have no time, or a small budget, check out some tips that I feel might help you along the way:

1. One at a time

Make sure you plan one project at a time and stick to it. If you already have one project that you have started and haven't finished, make sure to finish that project before starting any further projects. The clutter of two or more projects can not only be overwhelming, but just plain scary. Make a promise to yourself to finish the job you started with the proper tools to do the job.

2. Set the Date and Stick to it.

Life is busy, we all know this. It really helps if you schedule in time for yourself (and your projects). By making time for your projects you can stop little things from popping up that might get in the way of your completion. If you really want to get the job done but your girlfriend asks you out for coffee, why not explain to her the situation and even ask if she wants to come over and help- with coffee of course!

3. Make a Plan.

No matter what the job, it always helps to make a plan and stick to it. If its a closet that you want to clean out, write down all the items you'll need to organize your space. Hooks, baskets, a new paint job- whatever it may be it always helps to stay on track by writing it down. Lists also have been proven to make productivity grow.

4. De-clutter

The age old saying 'if you haven't used it in a year, get rid of it' really holds true with me. I am a big purger. If I don't need it on a daily, weekly or even monthly basis (with the exception of holiday items or other seasonal pieces) I get rid of it. Old children's toys, clothes, books, paper work and personal items that do not have a purpose should be either sold, donated or thrown out. It can be hard- but it will feel good to finally get rid of that clutter- I promise!

4. Organize by Category

Once you have cleansed your self of the junk and clutter take a look at what you have left and start to separate it in similar groups. Books, office supplies, crafting supplies, or candles for example. You could also separate items by color, material or theme. For example, glass items, metal, or collectibles from a trip. Once you have everything grouped into piles, take a look at what's remains. Is there something that you might like to showcase? put away for safe keeping? Often times instead of going out and buying new accessories for your home you can group items you already have (that have been just sitting in a closet or cubert) on display instead.

5. Feature what's attractive and needed, hide what's not.

In every space, no matter the space, pick which items you want to showcase and which ones you want to cover up. The items that you want to showcase could be large in scale, or something of beauty. Or perhaps something that you plan on using everyday and need easy access to. Items that may be smaller, or have the potential to clutter should be organized into boxes, baskets or any storage solution.

6. Don't be afraid to add a little color

In spaces that are in plain sight don't be afraid to add a little color. Stick to 2-3 colors max and add some life to you're space. If you are doing a home office, consider the color of your desk or storage unit one color. The visiable storage bins as another, and the last as an accent; a lamp or bulletin board perhaps.

I have to tell you about my adventure yesterday to the most quaint little (big!) pumpkin patch in Windsor!

This place is so cute & full of East Coast charm. The working farm has the Guinness Book record for the world's largest pumpkins...four times!
It's a great place to spend an hour with your family picking out fresh pumpkins and even apples, which is great if you're looking to add some festive vibes to your front porch.
I loved these white pumpkins- so cool.

Also, if you're going to pick up some smaller sized pumpkins for your home, at these prices why not buy them direct?

Fall Inspiration

Fall is coming and I love it! By the end of summer I don't know about you, but I'm done with BBQ's and bathing suits, and am ready for some warm, cozy wool sweaters and some home-made mac-n-cheese, straight from the oven...bubbling with cheesy goodness.

Along with weight gain, comes all things exciting that is fall: the smells, the colors, the fashion, ....I could go on forever! This year along with the usual apple pie inspired color palette, grey is the new black. Followed by the ever popular plum.

When changing your seasonal decor why not try something unexpected? Bring some purples, olives or even black into your festive theme. Keep the ultimate inspiration in mind: Mother Nature. You don't need to go out and buy new items. Go for a walk and collect twigs, pine cones, ferns, leafs and anything that can be transformed into a beautiful center piece or accessory in your home. Why not spray paint your new found items in one of this seasons colors? Or use root vegetables and fruit that can be both beautiful and delicious.

If you're feeling adventurous, why not paint a focal wall in a fall color? It's easy to do and really adds a wow factor to your space. If you like the look but you're not sure where to start look for any interesting architectural elements in your room that you might like to highlight. This will also create some dimension and add some depth to the space.

Summer is winding down and the Saving is easy!

As summer winds down, and the trees are starting to turn (yes, I have a couple naughty deciduous' in my backyard already) normally people start to think about back to school time and the stress associated with it. Trying to get the kids new clothes, never ending school supplies, haircuts, arranging car pooling and daycare services, and who can forget the cost of it all!

Well, breathe easy and take a hour to yourself with a little personal shopping. That's right, it's sale time people! Right now all the end of season summer stock are at incredibly low prices and going quick. It's a good time to pick up any large pieces of patio furniture you might have had your eye on all summer, or next years accessories at up to 70% off.

Specifically, the amount of in stock storage pieces available promotes a good time to finally clean out that cluttered closet or manage your kids toys. There are special items available now in stores that may not be available throughout the year (and again, at low prices!)

WELCOME TO Halifax Interior Design!!

I am SO very excited to be starting this new venture and sharing it with all of you!

This blog is dedicated to all those who love interior design in the Maritimes. The main purpose of this blog is to connect you, the every day consumer and design aspirational to what's available in our beautiful city of Halifax, Nova Scotia. As an Interior Decorator starting off in this quaint city I found a couple common denominators kept popping up. That being, that as a whole, Halifax seems to have relatively small interior design population and available resources (compared to our saturated neighbors in larger cities to our west; ie: Montreal, Toronto, etc). I want to break this bad rep by showing you, the consumer, that Halifax does have a lot to offer in fact, right here, available for the taking.

So, each week I will be posting new interviews, photos, news and more for your design inspiration! I will be showcasing what's available here at home. What's locally produced and sold. I will also be including online content. The main concept is to allow you, at home, to design locally without having to leave to another city, or feel like Halifax doesn't have what it takes. Our city is amazing, with so much to offer, in the interior design field and elsewhere. I want to connect with the creative in this city and bring the 'Halifax look' to you (with a flair of course!).
I hope you like what I have to say and see! Even better, if you have anything that you want to add, please let me know! I want Halifax to increase their over all well-being through interior design. I strongly believe home is your haven, and as Oprah says "should rise up to meet your life". I couldn't agree more, but why stop there! Your home, business or even a small room converted into a home office should be beautiful and showcase who you are as a person, your likes, your travels, anything that truly speaks you.
