There were two rooms. The main ’shining’ bar had Lloyd the barman struggling to deal with drinks requests. The second seance room was for fully chilling out a bit like a corpse.

This was arguably the best party yet. Does anyone remember what we built this City on? Was it rock ‘n’ roll by any chance? Hope you all had a good time and see you next year.

The idea was to let people comment at the bottom of this page to decide who had the best costume.

So we put up a few suggestions and waited to see what would happen. The problem was that somebody tried to manipulate the voting (mentioning no names but he was dressed in silver and he wasn’t Robocop) by getting all their mates to votes for them. The votes were cast so close together that it was too blatant to ignore.

As there were only two organisers this year we couldn’t make our minds up. So we think it’s best to just leave it the way it is and let people work it out for themselves. Next year the judges will be back and their decision will be final!

Khama’s wife Jo (pictured with him above) threatened to assault one of the organisers some time after the party if her man wasn’t awarded the best costume gong. The reason for the delay of his inevitable victory is sadly due to only having these three pictures to confirm the greatness of his costume.

Khama has promised that more will follow so watch this space!

Halloween 4 brought us to Clockwork on Pentonville Road. Although a particularly honourable mention should go to Borat overall there was little doubt that Bob Hoile’s massive Polar Bar outfit was the most memorable of the evening.

Once again there some late protests over this choice as it went against the established rule of bought or hired costumes not getting as much points as crafted ones. Quite simply it was so funny, big, cumbersome and downright absurd that it had to win.

How did he get home? How did talk to people? How did he pee? These are all questions which remain unanswered.

Watching Bob dance with seemingly miniature people all around him on the dance floor is an image which will seldom be forgotten by anyone.

Did Bob get it right?

The sweaty dungeon below El Paso housed the third and possibly greatest party so far. Over 200 people turned up, ramming both floors to the limit of what was safe and reasonable.

Costume highlights included Teen Wolf who stuck fake wolf hair to his beard with super glue, a famous grand chess master dressed as a cheerleader, Bride of Chuckie who came dressed as Chuckie and two Ghostbusters who could blow ping pong balls from their proton packs. Special mention should go to The Riddler who had to endure being called The Joker all evening.

The panel of judges announced Teen Wolf as the winner of best costume but unfortunately he had run off home to his mum after it emerged that he had got accidentally drunk. The trophy was presented to him some days later.

The third instalment of Halloween London brought us to the sweaty dungeon of El Paso on Old Street. This was arguably one of the best when it came to the quality of some of the home made costumes on offer. Although the Ghostbusters and Chuckie costumes were darn good the unofficial straw poll amongst the revellers picked out Tom West’s simulation of Teen Wolf to be the best.

Tom spent a good deal of effort and very little money on his costume which are qualities of a true champion. The yellow basketball kit was purchased from a Mad House and he wore a pair of his mums thick brown tights over his legs which must have been bloomin hot.

The fake hair was stuck on all over shortly before arriving at El Paso which proved to be hilarious. On sticking a rather large clump to his stubbly face he noticed the instructions said “DO NOT STICK TO BODY HAIR”. The only conclusion was to get hideously drunk so that it wouldn’t hurt too much when the hair finally came off.

On closer inspection it may look more like Terry Waite than Teen Wolf but you can make your own mind up by looking at the video below.

Did Tom get it right?

As it all seemed to go so well at the first Halloween party in 2003 it was decided that a second party was required. As with any follow up the pressure was on. The frog was out of the box as it were, and word of the legendary Halloween party had even spread as far as south London.

Luckily, the organisers managed to pull it off and over 150 people had made the effort to dress themselves up as all manner of curious and bizarre ways. Costume highlights included a guy dressed as the Tom Cruise character from A Few Good Men, The Hulk, Mum Ra, the entire Von Trapp family and the usual skeletons, vampires and so on.

After very little deliberation the award for best costume went to Beetlejuice mainly because he had got into the character a little too much and had caressed the naked, shriveled, naughty bits of the judges until they succumbed. I am reliably informed that no shelving was involved.

Prior to the second Halloween party Barry Causton had been busy in his lair working on number of different costume ideas. Over the years Barry has acquired a reputation for doing things in a somewhat last minute fashion so it was anyone’s guess as to what might happen.

The end result was this rather impressive costume of Beetlejuice based on the character played by Michael Keaton in the film of the same name. On arriving Barry was highly amused that hardly a single person recognised him. The suit was created with white double sided tape stuck on to a black suit. The slap head hat and white paint were joke shop classics which he added later.

Barry couldn’t help staying in character all evening. He smoked, drank, burped and groped his way around the pub. Luckily most people were two drunk to notice.

All in all it was probably one of the least controversial awards of the best costume prize in history. It’s quite possible to recycle this costume should Barry want to go another year as the Doc from Back to the Future or Terry Nutkins.
