NEU! :: Pudel Produkte 34 :: quadratschulz Remix EP

War schon die Original-EP ein rechter Ohrenschmaus an Electronica-Ohrziselierung, so setzt die Remix-EP da noch in Puncto Genre-Diversität noch einen drauf. Legendentreffen findet auf dem Vinyl statt, das mit Remixen von RVDS aka Richard von der Schulenburg, den IDM-Veteranen Future Beat Alliance und - ein Name, dem man niemandem wohl erst näher bringen muss - Move D aufwartet.

RVDS setzt auf einen flotten 303-Flavour gepaart mit tibetanischen Ritual-Flöt im Melodica Style und blökende Rave Schafen, Move D auf verträumten Acid, der zielsicher die weiträumig verhallten Flure und Säle des Deep-House durchstreift. Und Future Beat Alliance auf tiefen Downbeat-Electronica-Wumms für die späten Stunden.

Die Digital-Version legt dann mit drei weiteren Instant-Hits nach. Da hätten wir zweimal amtlicher Electro-Braindance von Jauzas The Shining und Obergman. Aber eben auch - der heimliche Höhepunkt dieses Remix-Päckchens -der Binary Digit Remix, ein traumhaftes Stück elektronischer Tanzmusik, das auf unnachahmliche Weise von Melodie-getriebenem IDM-Techno zu Sonntagsmorgens-Acid mutiert und wie Black Dog Productions zu ihren besten Zeiten (den frühen Neunzehnhundertneunzigern also) klingt. Habe mich da lange vor gedrückt vor der Hallo:Radio Show weil hatte schon befürchtet das das rauchende sonntägliche Biermonster so nicht 1:1 aus dem Club ins Radio zu übersetzen ist, so war es dann auch, schwer in einen Flow zu kommen und mussten ja auch gleich 3 Std. sein, was für ein Spinner, schwere Selbstüberschätzung sach ich x, egal, danke an Fine Hazel, Jörn und Jendrik fürs fahren und Susanne Reimann für den Jingle sprechen. Das nächste x dann Moderiert, John Peel Style, versprochen …

Pudel Produkte 33 versetzt zurück, eine Zeitmaschine in MFOC-heimelige Zeiten, als IG-88 von Rephlex öfters mal sonntags vorbeischaute und Raf Richard D. James hinter dessen Rücken (oder vielmehr Richard hinter Rafs Rücken die Ohren spitzend stehend) beleidigte. Selige Zeiten, die quadratschulz hier mit seinem exquisit konstruierten auralen Korpus aus gehirntanzenden Melancholodien und packendem Electroboogie perfekt emuliert. Ralf und Florian treffen AFX in einem Fahrstuhl und haben sich was zu erzählen. So gut, dass man sich fragt, ob die anstehende Remix-Ep das noch topen kann (Ja, sie kann). »Efia«, the sophomore album by Rosaceae, picks up where the Hamburg-based sound artist's 2019 // https://pudelprodukte.bandcamp.com/album/efia // Debut on Neoprimitive // https://neoprimitive.bandcamp.com/album/nadias-escape // left off, further exploring the topics that had already informed »Nadia's Escape«. From its confrontative front cover to the eight tracks on the album, »Efia« is fully dedicated to the motif of resistance, but does not exhaust itself in polemics. Rather, it masterfully translates the complexities of its underlying central themes into a visceral narrative.

»Efia« was originally conceived as a commissioned work for the 2019 edition of Hamburg's Noisexistance festival and departed from a sentence uttered in the British 1980s TV show »Sapphire & Steel« which inspired cultural theorist Mark Fisher in his analysis of what he had coined »hauntology,« a term originally coined by the Algerian-French philosopher Jacques Derrida in the early 1990s: »There is no time here, not anymore.«
The album again showcases Rosaceae's knack for combining abstract experimental sound art with a form of storytelling that had already been at the centre of »Nadia's Escape« and which relies on both verbal and musical means of giving a voice to the voiceless. The disembodied voice of - amongst others - Jesseline Preach and manipulated vocal samples blend in with dense soundscapes, elements of Neue Musik and occasional pure harsh noise. It's a mix that deliberately puts different artistic traditions into a dialogue with each other: the hallmarks of European salon culture are con- fronted with Kurdish wedding music and the unnerving loop of someone demanding a »Zugabe« (»encore«).
Thus, »Efia« not only blurs the lines between cultural and regional traditions, but also conjures up the ghosts of a past, ghosts that are more than ready to haunt the timeless present trying so hard to repress the atrocities happening at its fringes. As a whole, this makes »Efia« both a chilling work of sound art and a vibrant political statement fuelled by burning hot energy.

"I met Ed Keeylocko in 2008 in the Sonoran Desert near Tuscon, Arizona.

Via a dirt road we came to his Cowtown Ranch, a kind of self-built mini village made of old wood, metal and all kinds of stuff.
It was April, noon, already very warm and my birthday; we had a drink in his "Blue Dog Saloon" with tequila and Ed got into telling stories:
A harsh voice of conviction, humor and rhythm told of self-titled desert animals ("i named them all"), the strategy of taking in illegalized fugitives on his private property after crossing the border from Mexico to protect them from the Border Patrol, the traditional overnight cooking of meat in the hot desert earth and his unshakable belief in a positive change in the basic racist structure of the USA ("This Land will change")

Ed Keeylocko died on Christmas 2018, but a group of young people are trying to carry on the Cowtown Keeylocko legacy in his spirit."

With the help of the European culture channel ARTE, United We Stream supports those clubs, artists and organizers by live-streaming from the empty club direct to your living room, where you can rave from the comfort and safety of your home.

This Monday, April 20 starting at 19:00 (CET), United We Stream will transmit directly from Golden Pudel Club, Hamburg.

08. MARCH: MFOC: GOLDEN PUDEL

As one of the first Dutch musicians to establish a vital connection between Detroit and Amsterdam, Orlando Voorn has long been recognized as one of the Netherland's most original and inventive producers in the world of electronic dance music.

Voorn began djing at the tender age of 12 and went on to win the Dutch DMC DJ Championships in 1986 with his own characteristic blend of hiphop and electro. Towards the end of the eighties he acquired his first sequencer, packed away his turntables and turned his hand to producing.

Following a series of dancefloor tracks recorded for the now defunct Lower East Side Records under the monniker of Frequency in the early nineties (Where Is Your Evidence, Kiss The Sky…), he was introduced to Juan Atkins (Industrial Metal, Game One) and went on to work with both Derrick May and Blake Baxter (as one half of the Ghetto Brothers). Voorn was also recording as Nighttripper (Tone Exploitation), Format (Solid Session - one of the most sought after classic techno records until its re-release in 1998), Basic Bastard, The Living Room, Baruka, Fix (Flash on Kevin Saunderson's legendary KMS label), Dope Dog, Boy (Paco Di Bango's World) and Stalker (The Stalker/The Riderman)… Many of these tracks can be heard on the double cd Best of Nightvision.

Having made his mark producing his own vision of techno, ambient and hiphop and adamantly sidestepping genre limitations thus far, Voorn's announcement that his "Redeye" album would see a foray into drum'n'bass territory aroused both anticipation and curiosity. While Voorn undoubtedly has an ear for melody, this has always been combined with an innate understanding of the importance of atmosphere and tension in music. Like Squarepusher, Amon Tobin, and Photek, he uses drum'n'bass rhythms to create something beyond pure dance music.

Thomas Köner (b. 1965 in Bochum, Germany) studied at Musikhochschule Dortmund and CEM Studio Arnhem. He is a distinctive figure in the fields of contemporary music, techno and multimedia art, working across the spheres of composition, visual arts, installation work and music production. For more than three decades his work has been internationally recognised and he excelled in all the areas of his artistic activity, receiving awards such as Golden Nica Ars Electronica (Linz), Transmediale Award (Berlin), Best Young Artist at ARCO(Madrid), and many more.

His familiarity with both the visual and sonic arts resulted in numerous commissions to create music for silent films for the Auditorium du Musée du Louvre, Musée d'Orsay, Centre Pompidou, and others. Likewise, he created installations for diverse situations for example ISEA International Symposium on Electronic Art, the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes Santiago de Chile, to name a few.
His works are part of the collections of significant museums such as Musée national d'art moderne, Centre Pompidou Paris, Musée d'art contemporain, Montréal.
Thomas Köner is continuing his close relationship with sound art by creating radiophonic works for the national Radio in Germany and France (Deutschlandradio Kultur, WDR Studio Akustische Kunst, Radio France), while also working as a live performer and composer and producer. His music compositions from the early 90's, including albums Permafrost, Nunatak and Teimo, were considered pioneering in the field of minimal electronic and are still in print (Type label). His current album Novaya Zemlya was released by Touch. Köner's acclaimed production skills with his more beat-oriented duo Porter Ricks, whose album Biokinetics is considered "a classic of techno sound", resulted in remix commissions for a.o. Trent Reznor's Nine Inch Nails.

His performances and installations are audiovisual meditations that explore our notion of time, memory and location. He invites audiences to enjoy impressions of depth, distance and disappearance, and to fathom the qualities of the space around our limits of perception.

John-Robin Bold (*1995 / Hamburg) ist als elektronischer Musiker, Konzertgitarrist und Medienkünstler tätig. Er versucht seine Aktivitäten in experimenteller, klassischer und Popmusik als unterschiedliche Positionen zu gleichermaßen einem musikalischen universellen wie einer musikalischen Totalität zu verstehen.
Bisher spielt er in Deutschland, Österreich, Schweiz, UK, Italien, Tschechien, Slowakei, Ungarn u.a. beim Hear Me! Festival, Ambient@40, Umum Festival und am ZKM Karlsruhe. Neben Kollaborationen in improvisierter Musik, Theatermusik und Ensembles, ist er Mitbegründer der neuen Veranstaltungsreihe ◯ im Forum Stadtpark Graz.
Nach dem Früh- und Jungstudium der klassischen Gitarre an der Musikhochschule Hannover, schließt Bold derzeit ein Computermusikstudium an der Kunstuniversität Graz ab, welches ihn auch an die University of Huddersfield führte.

Die körperliche Einheit von Mensch und Maschine, lange befürchtet und lange vorausgeahnt, ist schon seit Jahrzehnten vollendete Tatsache, auch wenn es uns in der Regel nicht auffällt. Und zwar deshalb, weil wir mitten drin stecken und uns immer noch auf newtonsche Bezugssysteme verlassen, wonach die Realität nur das ist, was wir sehen oder berühren können.
Was natürlich nicht stimmt.
Wir alle sind Teil eines gewaltigen Konstrukts künstlich verknüpfter Nervensysteme.
Und es ist unsichtbar. Wir können es nicht berühren. Wir sind das Konstrukt.

Unique 3: British act, who, since 1988, have delivered a range of styles, including: hip-hop, rap, house, beats and breaks, and bleep.

In 1990, they broke the UK national top 30 (reaching no.29 on 14th April) with their hip-hop release 'Musical Melody', and enjoyed 4 top 5 club chart hits, and 2 club no.1s. Subsequently, their track 'The Theme' was included on both The Chemical Brothers' album of tracks that inspired them to make music, 'Brothers Gonna Work It Out', and on Warp Records' collection of early-house tracks that inspired them to set-up their label, called 'Warp 10+1 Influences'.

As deejays, their sets switch from electro-house, to breaks, to drum & bass.

Afrodeutsche (Henrietta Smith-Rolla), is a British born Ghanaian/Russian/German artist, composer, producer, and DJ based in Manchester.

Her polyrhythmic compositions integrate a wide array of musical genres, including Afrofuturistic electro and techno, classical solo piano and Detroit legacy house; all memorable journeys into deep, abstracted sound.
Afrodeutsche's DJ style is a synthesis of Drexciyan and Underground Resistance-inspired selections, intercut with a variety of forward thinking UK techno such as Bola and Lego Feet.

Hosting a monthly radio show on the renowned NTS, Afrodeutsche entrances listeners with her idiosyncratic combinations of dark electro, breaks, footwork, ghetto tech and jacking house.
Forever evolving a fully live hardware show, Afrodeutsche has already appeared alongside celebrated producers Dopplereffekt and Carl Craig, with many more to come.

Jörn Elling Wuttke und Roman Flügel arbeiten bereits seit den späten 1980er-Jahren als Produktionsteam und stammen beide aus Darmstadt.

1993 gründeten sie mit DJ Ata und Heiko MSO die drei Labels Ongaku, Klang Elektronik und Playhouse.

Ebenfalls 1993 wurde das Projekt Alter Ego gegründet.

1994 erschien die erste Alter Ego-EP auf Sven Väths Label Harthouse.

1999 erschien der Track Betty Ford, der einer der größten Club-Hits des Jahres wurde.

Der 2004 erschienene Track Rocker bescherte den beiden 2005 den Dance Music Award für den besten Track.

Skee Mask is a versatile producer from Munich, who doesn't want to be identified.
He got influenced by a lot of different types of music over the last years, which made his productions pretty various.
Skee Mask's direction is mostly rolling rhythms, combined with electronic soundscapes, always forcing to create a deep vibe. His influences mainly are from "old" techno labels like Chain Reaction, Warp Records or Counterbalance.
He's still developing his procedure in making tracks, but always staying himself.
In his DJ sets he tries to create a deep trip, constituted of organic grooves and diverse clang accompaniments. Skee Mask would describe his DJ-Set variations as techno, ambient and mostly experimental, forward thinking.

Originally hailing from Glasgow, via Copenhagen's pioneering, all-female techno DJ collective, Apeiron Crew, the Scottish producer has embarked on a solo journey that is cementing her reputation as one of the most exciting new DJs and producers on the European rave scene. Fresh from a stint as a participant at Red Bull Music Academy's twentieth anniversary in Berlin, we're looking forward to seeing Solid Blake's continued distillation of her own brand of weapons grade electro, drawing on her palette of abstract tones and broken rhythms.

Masha, her banging and celebrated contribution to Modeselektor's Modeselektion Vol. 4 compilation earlier this year "stood as one of the finest tracks on the impressive compilation, with percussion palpitating below wild synth bursts." (Mixmag), and put Solid Blake at the front-and-centre of the Modeselektion Tour in the summer of 2018, taking her through some of Europe's best-regarded clubbing spaces, including Berghain, Robert Johnson and Fabric, and earning a Mix of The Day at RA.

Solid Blake has just released another tenacious four-track EP on Berlin's SSPB imprint. Occupying a zone of her own, it encompasses shades of both the grittier, rougher electro style she has become known for and hints of the tough techno that Copenhagen is generating recently. ""Soap Cube" and "Warp Room" are more slamming. The latter is especially nice, its hyperactive bassline and zapping synths combining for a bomb that's easy to imagine hearing deep into a Marcel Dettmann set during some twisted Sunday afternoon at Berghain." Resident Advisor - hear Warp Room "a slamming blend of techno and electro" on RA New Tracks.

Solid Blake has also been mentored by none other than DJ Stingray, another POLY artist and a figure with whom she shares a relentless and singular style, as well as a love of dark electro and complex neuroscience. Stingray even contributed a remix to her 2017 release 'Mario', released on Outer Zone. 'Mario' demonstrated her "command of dubbed-out electro beats, metallic percussion and spectral atmospheres" (DJ Mag).

She is a regular at Glasgow's suitably intimate and intense La Cheetah, and has performed at festivals including Atonal, ADE and Dekmantel. A recording from the latter, in B2B mode with fellow former-Apeiron founder Mama Snake has recently found its way to Soundcloud to much acclaim - highlighted by The Guardian as a must listen "Twinkling techno arpeggiations, rowdy electro swarms and sudden swerves into breakbeat pepper this tight-knit, big-room romp." This followed a typically uncompromising contribution to the long-running Solid Steel mix series earlier in the year - "all swung techno, industrial clanks and machine funk of various hues" (DJ Mag).

DJ Mag have now nominated Solid Blake for Best Breakthrough Producer 2018 following their inclusion of her as an act you need to hear in August. We could spend all day telling you how much we love Solid Blake, but trust us (and trust Stingray, and Modeselektor, and RBMA…) in saying that she's simply an artist you need to hear. And will.

For Tom Scholefield, the language of design and music production cross over. As a producer, he's released two LPs on Planet Mu, the first of which was a resolutely melancholy and grainy take on pastoral IDM, shaped by living alone in Glasgow. The result of a move to Berlin and subsequent embrace of more rave tinged signatures, his later releases (Caramel and Refesher) present a fresh take on advanced dance music that is hard to tame. Saturated neon colours, classic '80s sci-fi and early modernist cues are recurrent themes in a vivid aesthetic that's instantly recognisable and helping shape the looks of Oneohtrix Point Never, Hudson Mohawke and Kuedo.

Since 2016, London based Forest Drive West has been building a rapidly growing catalogue of releases, receiving critical acclaim for records on labels such as Livity Sound, Hidden Hawaii and Rupture London.

His music has created a stir across the UK underground and beyond, resulting in a Resident Advisor 'Breaking through..' feature and an XLR8R mix to coincide with his superlative debut long player 'Apparitions' on Livity Sound in late 2018.

As fluent in jungle as the atmospheric techno of his earlier releases, his 'Jungle Crack and 'Set free' ep's show a stunning command of sound design and complex rhythms. They remain some of Rupture London's most sought after releases. Already an accomplished DJ, he is now touring extensively and is currently developing a live show set to debut in 2019.
