The Forrest E. Hull park in the city of Lancaster (Southern California) is one of Hamlet’s favorite hangouts. The park has a pretty big off leash area for dogs which was recently divided into two sections. The purpose of the split was to provide one space for everybody and another space for small dogs only.

Inside the off leash areas are courtesy scoopers, bags and trash cans to clean up after your pet with, some trees, dirt, a bunch of grass and usually a sizable gathering of doggies. The city also provides a water fountain with separate spouts for humans and dogs as well as a spout for quickly refilling the water buckets.

Hamlet urges you to stop by if you’ve never visited this place with your dog (and if you live near by). Just make sure that you follow the rules. Hamlet suggests that you always remove your dog’s leash when you enter the off leash area. Your dog may get stressed out when you keep him/her attached to you while other off-leash dogs are around. This often leads to aggressive behavior due to stress and because your dog might feel like it has to protect you when the two of you are attached.

Hamlet stops by the park randomly but it is normally towards the end of the week and after 5pm. We don’t go in the morning because it is usually still wet from the sprinklers being on. We’ve also found that the afternoon crowd is easy going. Hamlet likes to play rough and some owners can’t handle that.

Hamlet was a rescue dog that was packaged with full blown doggy breath when we adopted him – no sweet puppy breath for us! His breath, on average, is not horrible- but there are days when he has eaten something that didn’t agree with him. Usually it’s just a toy that he devoured or a can of cat food that Mouse decided to boycott. Whenever his breath becomes unbearable, Breath Buster biscuits always come to the rescue!

Hamlet has been eating Breath Buster treats 3 to 4 times a week for about 6 months and he loves them. He even begs for them and will lead us to the cabinet where they are kept. They really do work wonders and the days when we do notice the bad breath are usually the days that we haven’t given them to him. He gets 2-3 a day (he weighs about 75 pounds) and they always seem to do the trick. He usually has two in the morning and one later in the day and this keeps his bad breath at bay.

The first time I smelled the biscuits I thought there was no way Hamlet would eat them. They have a strong odor of eucalyptus and parsley. Amazingly – he loved them from the start and still does!

Hamlet’s Rating

Hamlet (and his family) give Breath Buster treats 4 paws up!

Pedigree Breath Busters come in a yellow and green re-sealable pouch. The biscuits are a little over two inches in length and one inch and a half in width which is a great size for medium to large dogs but may have to be broken up for small dogs. The Pedigree website says that they come in small dog size but I have not seen them where we shop. They have a medium texture and are broken by hand easily.

The net weight of the Pedigree Breath Buster Biscuits package is 500 grams or 17.6 ounces (approximately 30 biscuits) and they sell for about $3-$4. If your dog has some bad breath that needs some busting, they are well worth the price.

Dogs have been bred for different circumstances and different aspects of pet health. Some are bred for hunting, others for working, and some have a natural ability for agility. Breeds like border collies and greyhounds are known for their agility. However, any dog and anyone can go through agility training successfully. To begin, you will need to do your homework on agility training, if this is your first time training. There are plenty of resources on the internet and at your local library but working with another agility dog trainer can help you learn how to properly train dogs in agility training. Reading up on agility training first will better preparing you for working with professional agility dog trainers.

Knowing your dog’s personality, temperament and current pet health will best help you in your agility training. Knowing how to work with your dog will save you time and energy. Dogs need to have great focus and attention, so if your dog is not the greatest at paying attention, you may have to first obedience train, then agility train. Certain equipment is used during competitions, and aligning with a professional dog trainer can also save you time and money when it comes to equipment. Professional trainers will have training areas already equipped and may rent out their areas to other dog trainers. If you are serious about agility training and competing, then seek high quality equipment, with another professional agility trainer in tow. A second opinion when purchasing agility equipment can mean the difference between wasting money and winning prizes.

Once you have either your own equipment or an arena in which to train your dog, remember to have patience with your dog and keep their temperament in mind when training. Each dog has their own personality embedded into their pet health, so what works with one dog will not always work for another. Seeking the advice of a professional dog trainer will help you better determine the proper technique in training your dog. The best reward for dog training is treats, but give them treats which are appropriate for your pet health regiment. You do not want to give a dog preservative filled treats when you are asking them to do high energy tasks. Make sure to offer them treats which will compliment their need for constant energy.

Food is a great motivator for learning, as are other treats, depending on your dog’s personality. If your dog has a favorite toy, you can use it as a motivator as well. Clickers will help pace dog agility as well and manage their attention. Dog sports are fast becoming a popular sport for both dog and owner. A properly trained dog can excel in competitions and exhibitions. There are competitions throughout cities, states, and even throughout the country. If you have the time and patience, agility training is a great way to bond with your dog and can create wonderful memories for you and your family. Just have fun with it and enjoy your time with your dog.

Hamlet loves toys! His favorite type of playthings are the soft, stuffed animals that his sister Mouse the Cat plays with. Hamlet really loves to carry these toys around and get them all slobbery and even though he tries to be gentle, he almost always gets carried away and rips them to shreds. He particularly enjoys the bigger stuffed animals that are more his size but he usually has them gutted in five minutes or less! It seems that the bigger the toy, the quicker it gets torn up.

Enter Kong Toys for Dogs! These toys are absolutely Hamlet-proof! He has several different shapes and sizes but his favorite is the Kong Goodie Bone. He has played heavily with the bone for over 6 months and it is still in one piece – all of his Kong Toys are! He doesn’t even care when there aren’t treats in the ends of the bone – he still loves to chew it and toss it around. It has a little bounce to it so sometimes he has to chase it down! These types of playthings provide great exercise for Hamlet’s body as well as his teeth and jaws while alleviating some of the wear and tear on Mouse’s poor toys!

Hello and welcome to my website! Over time, my staff and I will be adding more and more content. For a little bit of my history, you can view my About page.

I currently live in the desert of Southern California. I spend most of my day inside the house and keep track of my ‘flock’. You see, I come from a long line of Sheepdogs and since I don’t have any sheep to tend to, I watch over all of my family members. They come and go through out the day and I keep a record of who is home and who is missing. I usually have a hard time sleeping if someone doesn’t come home.

When I’m not at home, I’m usually participating in some of my favorite hobbies. These hobbies include watching Fairy Tales in the Park, hanging out at my local dog park, hiking or going for walks, going on car rides, bullying my cat, going to get the mail, and traveling. In October I’ll be attending the Bark at the Park in Lancaster, California. I’ve gone there a couple of times before and I’ve always had lots of fun.

I want to thank you for taking the time to visit my website.
