Day 7: Free as a bird

Okay folks--we are eight days into the project, and I am just now posting bird 7. I must admit I am somewhat behind in my birds! I hope to catch up in the next few days---The above bird was painted and collaged on acrylic artist paper. It says "free as a bird" as well as "Life is so sweet". Its' a simple bird on a simple tree. Sweet!

Pendant Mania!

Here they are--the little pieces of art I promised you! My handpainted pendants are each original tiny pieces of art you can now dress your body with. Each pendant is made from wood, handpainted with an original design, and then a nice big dose of resin is added to the top. The resin gives the pendant a nice clear as glass glow.

The pendants are approximately 1.5" in diameter--about the size of a half dollar. Each has a silver plated bale attached.

For the month of July I am offering my pendants at $8---so get them while they are hot!

Day 6: Bird on Paint Chips

\ For the longest time one of my favorite colors has been red, but more recently I am turning to those bright deep oranges in my artwork. Visiting the paint store the other day I grabbed a bunch of paint chips===and I ended up recycling them in the above mini projects of birds. Each paint chip has a cut out bird, and a cut out branch--also from paint chips. Underneath each little guy are the words "Accept no other", "Discriminating", and "Authentic".

Perfect for framing in a small grouping using those adorable mini frames you never know what to do with! Soon to be in my etsy store or email me if you are interested in purchasing these little guys!

Day 5: Great Minds Think Alike

As I promised more mixed media birds---the colors included are the same as yesterdays birds with a difference in teh shades of red used. Today I added a bit of my favorite leather red--A nice little cicle for my bird to rest on.

I am really into mixed collages right now--the above piece is an original piece handpainted onto 9 x 11 acrylic art paper. Collage/paper design is also mixed into this piece. I love that little red bird sitting on the wire and near it read the words "I rememeber it well", and the large center blue flower reads "uncommon". This piece would look fantastic framed-- soon to be on sale at my etsy shop...

Big Art: Abstract Modern Painting "Depth"

The first in my line of big abstract art. Large unstretched canvas measuring 38" x 46"==that is nearly 3ft x 4 ft of wall art. Original painting by me in shades of orange, red, blues and teals. A stain of raw umber over the entire piece adds depth and dimension.

Day Three: Spell Bird

A simple little fellow on a wire---with the words BIRD added underneath. A crisp red and bright green background add some fun to this abstract piece. Painted on 9 x 12" acrylic paper.

I have found this paper material is great for original pieces of art. I will be doing several new pieces on the acrylic papers---that way they can be bought in groups, and then framed as you like. Please let me know if this is something you would be interested in!

I will be adding my first piece of BIG ART to the blog later today, as well as into my shops. It involved one giant red circle--lots of blues and greens. It turned out great---so if you admired any of the previous circle works, you will really love this one--as it is B.I.G. See ya soon!

Day Two: Differences - 31 Days Project

Day two of my 31 days project and I am featuring 4 cute birds--3 facing one way, and well, the other just had to be a little different.

These measure 12 X 12" each, and are painted in bright magentas, and deep reds--and all colors in between. A fun project in pink! Available on my etsy shop tomorrow!

The First Colorful Duo

Well here they are the first two birds--though I am officially counting each day as "one bird". The canvases measure approx. 16" x 20" each--each has heavy texture with a high end plaster that contains particles of mica. I then painted using tints as well as acrylic paints. The birds were sketched using ink and then various paint colors and tints were added to make these two simple pop!

I will be listing these on Etsy later this evening--as well as Ebay--so if you want first dibs, get them while they are brand new!

A new project

July first is the perfec time to start a new project--join me in my daily paintings and mixed arts projects that will all feature these beautiful creatures! The daily projects will come in all different sizes from the BIG ART series I am doing to small collectable ACEOs! But everyday I will post a new bird until the project is complete July 31. As with all my other art projects, the projects will be for sale in my Etsy shop.

My first group of birds are anxiously awaiting to make their appearance--I will post them here later this evening so check back soon.

Time To Go Big

Premiering this July is my new series of very big art! I am so excited to work on a larger scale for several of my paintings---painting in an abstract form is more appealing to me when it gets bigger to the eye. The viewer can study more detail, more color, and the impact of the piece is much stronger. Not to mention big art is all the rage in contemporary interior design settings.

The pieces will be painted directly on unstretched canvas measuring anywhere in size from 3 ft x 3 ft on up in size. The pieces will be dried and rolled up to be shipped. Once a client receives their new piece of art, the client can stretch the piece on stretcher bars themselves or take to a frame shop. Make sure to check back about this process---I will let you know of a few good you tube videos that talk about stretching your own canvas, the approximate costs involved and so forth.

Sending the canvas unstretched saves money on shipping, and in fact, many BIG artists prefer this method. The canvas arrives in tact in a shipping tube, there for having less of a chance to be damaged.

Rainy Days and Summer Days

Both of these days you are 99.4% guaranteed to hear the endless comments about boredom--if you have children. We are in luck that pets can't speak.

This summer i have heard this statement more than ever, especially since my daughter is staying home with my, as I am doing much more canvas and art work from home than ever before. Having your seven year old stay at home is also a guarantee that you will watch Highschool Musical more than 18 times. It also means you will know ever Jonas Brothers song by heart.

After endless hours of hearing Kevin, Joe and Nick singing, my daughter screaming and making posters dedicated to the group I think my scrambled mind shut down, and I told myself I had to find something a little more entertaining for her to do. I discovered Bloesem Kids,a great blog with fun activities and art projects.

Arounna Khounnorajis is the weekly guest and art diva on the site. She shows fantastic art projects you can do with your kids. Arounna received several Art degrees. She lives in Toronto and divides her time between her textile designs and her artwork where she explores sculpture, drawing and printmaking. Together with husband John Booth she produces pieces for their own label...Bookhou design.

A little low on Honey and this is what I found

The other day I was at a Starbucks and I noticed they had littlle packs of honey ---so I grabbed a few. About 10. I knew the bottle of honey sitting in my pantry was nearly on empty--and honey is a staple ingredient to be mixed with my morning cup of tea (who needs sugar).

So my pantry has packs of honey, and well my fridge also has random packs of ketchup, mustard relish, and the endless supply of soy sauce whenever I get chinese. It really does come in handy, as I did actually have a bratwurst the other day, and two packs of mustard fixed that sausage right up. Who needs to actually BUY condiments when you can get these mini packs for free?

So to my utter delight, I discovered Chris Harne who actually has an extra large collection of condiment packages. Finally, someone who understands me. But then I realized Chris takes his collection very seriously. He categorizes his packets into type, scans pictures of them and you can even search by country. Time Remembers

About The Paintings: A great set of 2 16 x 20s that show texture, and embossed design. This piece is dark with colors of rust and turqouise coming through---drips appear as if it aged copper with patina--similiar to those old tin ceilings. Lots of plaster was added on the edges for a worn and repaired appearance. A great look for a modern setting--I can just see these adding a bit of warmth to a room with sleek lined contemporary furniture, or the old world look--tuscan and european. And I am sure these would look great anywhere in between! As usual with most of my sets, you get both of these paintings for the price listed

Okay here is my top five greats.....

1. Watching Regis and Kelly at 9 a.m. with a follow up from my girls at The View at 10 a.m. While painting! Nothing like a good laugh or interesting debate to wake me up and encourage my inner creativity. Couldn't do that if I worked in a cube 9-5.

2. When people ask what I do it is a little cool to say I am an artist--until they start asking endless questions about my art, and then confess they are secretly artists too. Yawn.

3. Selling on Etsy. It is a downright addiction, I tell ya! Something about that place makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, like a nice hot cup of tea with honey. Looking at the treasuries displayed their just can't help but make you happy.

4. Working on my art blog at 6 a.m. on Sunday---not sure why I decided to get up, but I had an idea for a great post. But I can also work at 10 p.m. on Monday, or 5 p.m. on Tuesday or even 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Again, you can't beat these hours!

5. Creating and creating and thinking of more things I can make. On my list are paper mache, pendants, more canvas projects and if I can find that huge can of resin at my house we are going to get something really cool out of that. There is nothing like creating what is roaming around in your imagination!

Raw Beauty

Raw abstract art--I had a great time painting these I have been a bit on a blue streak lately, and the blues and greens in this piece really show that. I added touches of gold , deep browns and yellows. I still wanted the canvases to have something more--they just didn't seem finished to me. I added a silhouette of Marilyn Monroe and it just finished each canvas perfect. Ms. Monroe is painted in glimmer golds on one piece and the other she is in a rich leathery red.

Oh my Gourd!

Gourd art---in the past has not been a favorite of mine--how about you? Perhaps I never have seen great gourd art, but it just hasn't been something I "had to have" in my collection of decorative items. Then today I came across these gourd eggs---the most precious hand painted objects!

If you are into Etsy one of the most coveted and sought after items is a "Treasury". Based on a theme, one person fills up their treasury with items being sold on Etsy. It is very difficult to land a treasury--you have to calculate the time they will end, count back minutes, and IF you are lucky a tiny box pops up on your screen and you have one. Sounds confusing--and it is. Etsy only gives out 333 treasuries at a time, even though at times there can be as many as 500. Still confused...I know.

But I am here to tell you I landed one today and titled it "Circle it round" based on all the circles popping up in my paintings lately. Now, none of my items are in the treasury, but some of my favorite etsy sellers and items are featured. Check out the adorable list of items soon---the treasury is only open for a few days and then it is someone else's turn!

Tiny Little Paintings

Delving into the world of ACEOs, Artist Cards, Editions and Originals, I have decided it was time to create some of these little beauties. Many of you have asked for smaller versions of my paintings--and it was a very fun to jump into the world of miniature art and to create these for you!

ACEOs are traded, collect and sold all over the world. There are no rules to creating an ACEO except that it must be 3.5" x 2.5". ACEOs come in prints and originals, and at this time all of my ACEOs are 100% one of one--and no prints will be made.

ACEOs are the same size as your standard playing cards--it gives many people the chance to collect original art. Many choose to display their collections in books, however the cards are great for framing, or even tucking into a greeting card as a little extra.

Though brought back to popularity in 1997 by an artist in Switzerland, the history of the ACEO actually goes back hundreds of years to the 16th century. The old masters were asked to paint mini portraits as well as business cards.
