KOKO was pass away about 15.00WIB. I don't know how to tell this story, but I feels very sad right now. Two weeks before KOKO leave me, there are something wrong with his attitude. The first thing was, his body size does not grow bigger, spend lot of time for sleep, hard biting, and not active like the other. WET TAILS? I don't think so because I don't see any indication of that disease.

How about the food? I give them routine, twice(morning and night) a day and vitamins. Or maybe when I buy KOKO, he is already sick ?? I don't know for sure. Male or Female?”. Either male or female hamsters have advantage and disadvantage. It’s also depends by your purpose, want to breed them or just for fun?

Male or female, has its own character. I have 4 campbell dwarf named Koko, Kiki, Jack, and Sparrow where all of them was male’s. So why I am not pick a pair? Because my purpose was just for fun. I am not ready enough to breed them. As you know, rodents has ability to growth and breed fast.

Anyway … Male hamster have characteristic less biting, friendly, sleep a lot, and messing around inside the cage. The opposite with male, female have characteristic biting a lot, grumpy, and moody. Especially when they are pregnant. But the good one is, they are tidy and more active.

And that’s the reason … Why I’m pick male than female

Sand Bathing

What is the important of sand bathing? Before I adopt these cute rodents, I have no idea at all. Maybe just for fun? Well if you don’t have any, I suggest you should have one. Why ?

Sand Bathing Inside My Hamsters Cage

When we talking about inside the cages, people always thinking about all fancy things and bright color such plastic tube, wheel toy, drinking bottle, bedding's, etc. Same with me before I adopt Koko, Kiki, Jack, and Sparrow. As I know, bedding are the most important to handle with their (pardon me) poops and pee.

But after I do some trial, just realize provide sand bathing also important things. Because very useful to absorb poops especially their pee. So you don't need change their bedding's over and over again in a week to avoid smell. I prefer change sand more often than change their bedding because it's simple and fast.

HAMSTER Definitely Need Chew Toy

I has biting hamster issue. There's no smell inside my 44 litre plastic box container. However, I'm still curious with people saying this kind of cages are difficult to clean up.

First things I do was, take some fresh bedding and separates the dust by shake it and take the first(top) and the middle one. So the dust must be at the bottom.

When fresh bedding are ready, now it's time to take out your buddy's from the cages and also all parts(food bowl, wheel toy, drinking bottle, etc).

After all get outside(hamsters and parts), just simply throw away the old bedding and the old sand bath into the trash bin. And then wipe the inside cages using toilet paper, until it's clean.

Now put back your cages and fill with fresh bedding. Then all part's and the last one, your buddy. It's simple isn't ?? It just only take about 30 minute ...

<georss:box>-7.3481463 112.61309250000006 -7.1824093 112.87190750000006</georss:box>

Hamsters Are Nocturnal

At the midnight(First Day,26June) I was set my hamsters cage quickly. Why I’m buying that kind type of cages? Because I think hamster do not need fancy thing(wire plastic with plastic tube all around) and bigger space means better environment for the hamsters.

Before I go to next stop, Gunung Sari Surabaya, Indonesia. I start to write some list what should I buy in there. And here’s the list

- Sand Bathing

- Bedding

- Food Bowl

- Water Bottle

- Wheel Toy

- Little Cage

- Hamster Food

Lucky me, all items in my list just spend about IDR.60.000 rupias(including discount of course). I buy all that items in the right corner store. Well because it’s too early back home, I spend more time to look around. Maybe I can find anything else. Honestly from the beginning I don’t want buy hamster in here(Gunung Sari). I'd rather buy in some private pet shops where has spesific care. But after I look closer in some store's, they have good quality hamster. I think, tomorrow I must cancel my appointment with hobbypetshop. I am sorry.

Two male campbell hamster(“Panda Hamster”) now in my little cage. Ready to take home and become part of my family. My Salary came out today. Gosh, After waiting for a month, spend lot of time learning the basic about Hamster. OK Let’s go for shopping!. Firstly I went to Carrefour-Rungkut Surabaya, Indonesia buying a plastic container box (55litre) where the price much better than other place. When I do hunting about the price before, the last I saw was IDR 69.999 rupias. Tonight the price became IDR 79.000 rupias and I a little disappointed.

So I’m looking another plastic container box, maybe there are another options. Yeph... I found it! 44 litre I think was not bad enough and the price tag show better price IDR.59.000 rupias. Then I go to cashier and how surprise I am , the subtotal become IDR.89.000. Are you trying to rob me, or what??? Argh ... I don’t wanna make any complain at this time. The materials seems more thick than 55litre, anyway. It’s time to go home for a while, prepare for another things to buy. At least we knows the basic how to take care them in the right way and of course provide the needs with a good quality and price. When you go hunting, I believe you have see various type of hamster cages with all fancy colour and different size. So the question are, “How to choose the right hamster cages?”

If this is the first time handle with hamster, wire-plastic type look’s good with plastic tube so can connect with top compartment. Plus the attracting color. Another type was aquarium with various made of glass, acrylic, and plastic. Well basically all hamster cages was good, but we should think advantages and disadvantages each type of cages, and decide which one the most fit to your environment.

Advantages Wire Plastic

Wire Plastic Hamster Cages

1. Colorful

As you can see ... This type have a lot of bright color i.e blue, pink, green, yellow

2. Complete Kit

Usually If you buy wire-plastic, it’s already include complete starter kit i.e running wheel, drink water, and plastic tube. So you don’t have to buy another needs separate.

3. Air Circulation

The best part of these type of hamster cages are provide good air circulation. Trapped air inside the cage can be serious problem.

4. Plastic Tube

Plastic tube can be handy when you want expand the cage by connecting one cage with another

Disadvantages Wire Plastic

1. Difficult To Clean and Assembled

You need be patient when cleaning the cage. Wipe one by one bars, detach the floor, etc

Thin Circulation Inside

2. Easily Crack

Because it’s made from thin plastic, some parts can be easily crack

3. Plastic Tube

Plastic tube also need to be cleaned so bacteria and another disease can’t be growth inside plastic tubes

4. Safety

Choose the cages who have tight bars. In many case, hamster feet could stuck and injured.

Advantages Aquarium Cage

Aquarium Made Of Glass Hamster Cages

1. Good View

All hamster activity can be look easily e.g running, playing, and burrow

2. Good Security and Safety

Because aquarium made of solid materials, there are no way to escape. Since hamster was a great escape artist, they always curious about lot of things.

3. Size

Aquarium type have nicely size for your hamster, running around inside the cages.

Disadvantages Aquarium Cage

1. Air Circulation

Solid materials makes thin air circulation. So the best way to avoid this issue was don’t buy cages with high wall (about 40cm up). Trapped air inside the cages, can raising temperature and make smells. Another issue was bacterial growth if you don’t regularly cleaning the cages.

2. Difficult To Clean

Many of people said this type of cages was difficult to clean because the only way cleaning up are from above. If you have aquarium made of glass, can you imagine how heavy it is when you fill with the water? And it’s easier to crack.

Survey The Needs Of Hamsters

Before we’re spend some money, buy everything the needs of hamsters like cages, sand, drink water, etc It’s good to take a survey first. Movie like Lassie, Homeward Bound, AirBud, etc describe how pets can effect into our life. But the question is, “Beside cat or dog, what kind of animal should I adopt?”

HAMSTER

HAMSTER. This cute little friend, maybe fit to you. There are several reason why I pick hamster. First of all because I considering my place was small and there’s no backyard. Second reason because hamster no need special treatment so easy to care(and of course cheap) and the last one was grow fast.

I believe a lot of people especially parents disagree with this kind of pets. Because they think(<strike>or afraid ?</strike>) hamster was disgusting and carrying disease. After I looking some basic information about this kind of issue, hamster can smells bad because the wrong way of care. The other thing was disease. I believe if we provide clean environment, disease issue could be handle.

<georss:box>-7.3481463 112.61309250000006 -7.1824093 112.87190750000006</georss:box>
