Funny Science Cross Stitch Sampler Pattern

Hello happy friends! How are you today? Last week was another sort of mixed bag. I have to be honest here and say that the Bag O' Mix is probably going to be par for the course for the next little while as I battle a bizarre and chronic health problem and juggle a ceramics start up business. So there will likely be four new cross stitch patterns per week on no particular subject because I have decided that planning ahead is stupid and futile. Hooray!

Today we have a free science cross stitch pattern for all you science and data (and cross stitch) nerds out there. I say it loud and I say it proud: I love data and if you can't cite your sources you can get to fuck as they say in Manchester.

I love science but it isn't the ONLY place for data. I have been a product manager for over 15 years and I wish I had this data cross stitch pattern up in my office. If I had an office. Maybe I should get a t-shirt made. The point is, don't just take anyone's word for "it" whatever your "it" happens to be.

Man, the pandemic has been an absolute shit show for science. The fundamental nature of which I think is hugely misunderstood. Science is a place for uncertainty and not for absolutes. So much crazy information got released out into the world by irresponsible journalists and scientists over the last 6 months with no data to back any of it up. Don't take Ibuprofen! Malaria drugs cure covid19! Face masks cause cancer!

BTW I am thinking of taking the week off next week as it is a bank holiday here in the UK and I could do with a break from cross stitch design to focus on getting the ceramics shop ready for Christmas. So we'll see how it goes.

Today we have a free nautical cross stitch pattern. My partner (whom I mentioned yesterday) and I are keen sailors. We had a boat. A tiny little sailboat. It was shipwrecked earlier this year. This was one of the best things that could have happened because that boat was a terrible pain the in ass.

It was not the size of it so much as it needed A LOT of work. But then again so did we and it was a nice little boat to learn on. So now we are on the look out for something just a little bit bigger and a little bit newer.

I have already had a full week on the subject of Beer on this website because I love beer. Craft beer is a passion I discovered when I moved to the UK which had a thriving micro-brew culture long before anywhere else in the global economy.

Snarky Cross Stitch Sampler Pattern

Hello happy friends! How are you today? Last week we spent a little bit of time pondering the end of the world. Which left me in a bit of a nihilist existential funk. Things needed to be said for sure but I am not sure where one goes from the end of the world.

We had a couple patterns this week featuring apocalypse survivors but I have decided to change tack and do a couple of samplers that have been on my list for a while.

Today's free cross stitch sampler pattern is one that is pretty close to my heart and also my crushing anxiety and depression and as yet undiagnosed debilitating vertigo. Yay! I spend A LOT of time in denial. You wouldn't think that this is healthy but all things considered I find it A LOT easier to get up in the morning when I tell myself that NOTHING is wrong and I feel fine. You would be surprised at how often this becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

I mean I still feel terrible but shit gets done and none of this is going to kill me after all. Kind of like the whole fake it til you make it. This isn't fine. None of this is fine. But it isn't going to kill me so there are two choices: stay in bed and do nothing or get on with life.

I admit that the latter is exhausting but much more enjoyable than any of the alternatives.

Snarky Cross Stitch Sampler Pattern

We had a couple patterns this week featuring apocalypse survivors but I have decided to change tack and do a couple of samplers that have been on my list for a while.

Today's free cross stitch sampler pattern would probably be a good one to hang up in your office (home based or otherwise).

For some reason I often get asked whether or not my mother told me that if I couldn't say anything nice I shouldn't say anything at all. Coulda, shoulda, woulda...

My mother never told me any such thing and I doubt that anyone else's mother ever told them either. So the origin of the expression certainly is a mystery.

I do try to say nice things but people do make it very difficult. If I followed the advice of never saying anything if I couldn't say something nice it would be akin to taking a vow of silence. Also my mother told me to always tell the truth. Being nice and telling the truth are often at direct odds with each other.

To tell the truth here, I would probably go for sarcasm or irony before passive aggressive (it's way more effort than plain old sarkiness) but I liked how this scanned better.

Today we have one of those very items: the humble twinkie. Denizen of time capsules and nuclear bunkers, the twinkie is famous for its apparent immortality and flying in the face of all the laws of physics and God. Is it a pastry? Is it a cake? Is it, in fact, single use plastic disguised as dessert? We may never know because it will out live us all and take its secrets, palm oil, and high fructose corn syrup into infinity.

It even survived corporate melt down when Hostess went bust. For a while there the twinkie disappeared from grocery store shelves but not from preppers' bug out bags or our intestinal tracts. It returned from the apparent dead. A cake-y zombie relic made of nostalgia and and poor life choices.

God speed you strange and spongy little snack beast. Into eternity may you speak on behalf of all human kind at the end of the universe.

End of the World As We Know It Cross Stitch Pattern

So there is lots of fun stuff planned. Hopefully there is something for everyone whether your taste runs to zombies, plague, survival tips, or eschatology in general.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that all end of the world situations start out with someone ignoring a scientist. Plagues, asteroids, climate disaster, nuclear melt downs, AI singularities are just a few things about which very smart people who know more than you do shake their heads and wag their fingers. Even the relatively tame economic and health care Armageddon that is covid19 started out with governments (and their people) just not fucking listening.

If that isn't a compelling argument for an academic elitist dystopia I really don't know what is. I'd rather be science-ed to death than moron-ed to death. But the latter seems to be what is going on right now.

Today's free cross stitch pattern is for one for scientists and science fans and is very probably going to offend some people who think that science is just some other sort of religion we can chose not to believe in. Masks prevent the spread of a virus that could kill me and my grandma? Bah! I choose not to believe in your "science" and substitute my own equally valid reality that requires no evidence! I shall not wear the accursed PPE and mingle with as many other humans as possible!

I dunno... last time I checked inertia wasn't optional. It is a pretty fucking pressing problem when you aren't wearing your seat belt.

Advice for the End of the World Cross Stitch Pattern

Today's free cross stitch pattern is for all y'all who are fond of dystopias. Be they patriarchal, matriarchal, environmental disaster, nuclear holocaust, or asteroid induced 100 year ash cloud. The world hasn't exactly ended, it is just the world as you know it is kind of fucked. And so are you. So it is time to get practical and pragmatic and take action.

So some background for this one. I am kind of a word whore. I collect funny things people say. Mostly people from my life but also the odd thing on TV or the movies will still tickle me. I write these things down on trello or post its or my hand but seldom give them any context. This quote about goats and cinnamon has been on my list for while but I am not entirely sure where it comes from.

I like it because I like goats and cinnamon. For the travelling at night one might have to adjust depending on what sort of apocalypse one finds oneself in. Like for the vampire apocalypse this would be no good. And you might want to hoard garlic in that case. Goats would still be cool.

The point is, there are all sorts of things you can use to wipe your ass, but there really is no substitute for 9mm hollow points when a wall of zombies is standing between you and the last bottle of tequila in Dodge city. Keep your list short and to the point and tailored to your particular end of the world situation.

Zombies! Run! Cross Stitch Pattern

So there is lots of fun stuff planned. Hopefully there is something for everyone whether your taste runs to zombies, plague, survival tips, or eschatology in general.

Today's free cross stitch pattern is all about the zombie apocalypse. Which is probably my second favourite kind of apocalypse. There's lots of ways in which this goes down: comets, science run amok, poorly constructed soft magic systems. But the end game is basically the same: run, cut off heads, don't get bitten.

There is somewhat of a dearth of zombie cross stitch patterns on the internet. Well, at least of ones that appeal to me. Like that demonstrate the actual horrible pressing problem of such a situation. A bit like the current situation, I would expect the government to start by telling us everything is ok and we should stay home and we will be fine. Keep calm. Don't panic shop or loot. Watch lots of TV to rot your brain. Maybe the zombies won't want you. There will be daily briefings and posters.

Like this cross stitch keep calm and carry on poster. Bit of trivia here: this poster was never used during WW2 in the UK. It was designed to be put out in case of a Nazi invasion. Or a zombie invasion in this case. But really, if there was an actual zombie apocalypse there is nothing you can do except for run, cut off heads, and not get bitten.

Today's free cross stitch pattern is all about self care and what we can all do to build resilience into our lives. And this free cross stitch pattern is certainly a lesson that is hard learned by many. In fact it probably took me 30 years to figure this one out. One of the best ways you can take care of yourself is simply by not giving any of the fucks. About what people think of you, about what you think you SHOULD be doing, about the dishes in the sink, about any of it. What you need to give a fuck about is you and your health and your mental well being.

Today's free cross stitch pattern is all about self care and those really little things that we can do to stay healthy that some how are just so hard to remember to do for ourselves. One thing I am terrible at, and yet it is so easy to do, is put on effing sunscreen.

So why not cross stitch this Put On Your Sunscreen message for your bathroom or your vanity or wherever it is that you do your face routine. I think one of my problems is that I do not have a face routine. So I will generally just go outside for like a three hour hike in the baking sun and wonder where my crows feet and freckles come from.

Except for yourself. Well, one thing I have learned is that this is impossible and also terrible. You deserve to be happy and that happiness should not be wrapped up in how you make other people feel.

So if you are feel the overwhelm, why not please yourself by cross stitching this healthier message. It isn't a bad thing to please others but you are never going to please everyone. And it certainly should not be at your expense!

Today's free cross stitch pattern is all about staying hydrated. Apparently most people are chronically under hydrated. You would be amazed at how much water a moderately active adult human needs to function optimally. I go through bouts of keeping an eye on my water intake and I definitely know when I am not drinking enough of the stuff. And yet I am not very good at making and maintaining this habit even though I always feel better when I do.

So if you are as poor as I am at remembering to drink a glass or two of water throughout the day then maybe you need this cross stitch to beat the importance of this habit into your brain.

Today's free cross stitch pattern is for my peeps on the facebook page who requested a few simpler and homier cross stitch patterns. You know, in the vein of Home Sweet Home. Movie Lovers Popcorn Cross Stitch Pattern

Hello happy friends! How are you today? Last week it was a strange mix of graffitis and tikis. This week it not particularly organised. In fact it is going to be a bit of this and that on the fly.

I used to go to the movies ALL OF THE TIME. Loved the cinema experience. But then movies started to be all about product and not really about interesting stories well told. Side eye for you Bay. My interest petered out around about 2005-ish when it became all comic book sequels. I can count on one hand the number of decent films I have seen at the theatre in the last 15 years. Not that there have been less than five good films in that time, there were just (cheaper) alternatives to going to the cinema.

One thing I miss from the good old days was the popcorn. Spoiler alert: British cinema popcorn SUCKS (I am a transplanted Canadian). Like it is weird, cold, and horrible. And they even put SUGAR on it. One thing they don't put on it is butter. Or that weird oily plastic butter alternative that came out of a pump. I don't even know if they do that in any country any more but it was fucking awesome.

So I have this sort of random popcorn cross stitch pattern knocking around. I guess I was thinking of doing a Movies theme week but, as state above, I just don't have the passion for it any more. But I do have nostalgia and a craving for salty oily snacks. Et Voila!

This is a great beginner cross stitch pattern and, if you don't like red, you can make the popcorn box whatever colour you want.

I had some requests recently for sampler type wall decor cross stitch patterns. But I have been feeling rather snarky, jaded, cynical, and sarcastic for the last little while (37 years) so why not combine the two things into some free cross stitch patterns for like minded individuals.

Today's "You Again" cross stitch pattern is a cute and easy cross stitch for beginners. I haven't included a colour key because there are only three colours and I figure you would probably want to switch that up with your own favourite colours.
