Saudi Arabia is about to behead a 21-year-old man and then crucify him to display his body in public. This same country was just chosen to head a U.N. Human Rights Council panel. If it weren’t so serious this would be funny!

Ali Mohammed al-Nimr was arrested when he was 17 for participating in demonstrations against the government, then he was convicted under torture. But his case is not an exception in the kingdom — Saudi Arabia has executed more than 100 people this year, that’s a rate of one every 2 days!

France has already requested that Saudis stop this execution, but the US, Germany, and the UK also have very cosy relationships with the regime. The best way to get urgent action is to channel our outrage to these leaders who can persuade their Saudi allies. Cruel factory farms are pumping healthy animals full of antibiotics so that they can produce more meat, faster and cheaper. This insane cruelty is also creating drug-resistant superbugs that can kill us!

Several European countries have already drastically cut use of antibiotics, and now EU ministers are negotiating laws to do so across the continent.

Reducing cruelty to animals while saving human lives is such a no-brainer that even McDonald’s said it’ll stop selling chicken reared with some antibiotics in the US. But the farm and pharma lobby is out in full force to stop the new EU laws.

5/5 ^^ Unapologetic, angry, cantankerous and heartfelt. Love the way Mr. Lydon emphasises time and again that ‘Punk’ is a state of mind and a ‘Have a go’ attitude, and not a cartoon vision of spiky mohican haired, leather jacket suited herds stuck in the late 1970’s.

4/5 ^^ Still as brutally honest today as when I first read it 35 years ago. Statements like “The only kind of football I’m interested in is the kind that brings me financial reward. I wouldn’t walk to the bottom of the garden to play for nothing” left a 12 year old feeling extremely disillusioned with his hero’s views at the time.
