With a name like Rapdragons, it was pretty much a lock that we would be into this rap duo from Baltimore.

This is the perfect rap music for the our times as it sounds like a mixture of The Beastie Boys/Young MC and any chillwave act out there right now (Beach House, Washed Out, etc.).

Yesterday, two of our favourite things came together – Neon Gold Records and Interview Magazine. The established magazine interviewed Derek Davies and Lizzy Plapinger, founders of Neon Gold Records. Check it out for some insight on two young students’ start up record label, setting up the dream and then living it.

“Given their ages and pedigree (Davies, 22, is a film major at NYU; Plapinger, 21, majors in media studies “with a focus on music” at Vassar), skeptics might assume Neon Gold is a hip undergraduate vanity project that caters to the current whims of the Brooklyn-based art and music scene. They’d be mistaken: if anything, Neon Gold reverses the art/noise pop paradigm and is ushering literal, unironic “Pop” back into indie (and mainstream) acceptance.”

We’ve all seen our share of Billionaire Boys Club T-shirts and we need to distribute our T-shirt funds wisely, but I love BBC’s Spaceman character. He’s back and this time as an outer space magician. Common Projects have been expanding considerably with their recent baggage, wallets and sunglasses. We’re fans of pretty much everything they’ve done, but especially the original Achilles. The debut of the Achilles was a distinct moment in refined sneaker history.

Recently they came out with the Achilles Raw High Top and they look phenomenal. Slightly more subtle than their combat boots, Common Projects added some great details and textures to the Achilles High Top. Rough suede laces, contrasting soles and metal eyelets come together flawlessly.

Junya Watanabe has never attempted to be accessible to the masses. Their often unconventional cuts and price tags leave most people in the spectator role. Their collections as well as ongoing line for Comme Des Garcons often featured wider pants, chunkier soles and trend-averse choices that separated them from many.

Their recent Checked Blouson Jacket is a simple, refined and quiet statement. A great cut complimented with some exceptional details come together and it’s looking sharp. More detailed pictures ahead.

This is a perfect fit for us as we were fans of this store long before they began to carry our clothing. We feel privileged to be in such an established store and realize none of this could have happened without people like you. Varsity jackets have been prominent on the scene for the last couple of seasons and now Opening Ceremony are playing their part for Spring/Summer 2010. Opening Ceremony have managed to do a better job than most with a slim cut silhouette that leaves the boxy arms and excess material behind from the varsity classic. Both colourways are looking sharp and so refined they can even be pulled off with trim shorts.

Moscot Eyewear has been around for generations in the Lower East Side of New York, but in recent years they’ve been getting a lot more attention in the fashion scene. The store sits on Orchard Street near East Asian kiosks and minutes away from exceptional retailers including ALIFE and In God We Trust.

The ground floor of the store is a clean showroom with white walls, glass cases and one scenester employee on staff doing nothing apparently productive. One floor up is where you want to be. The scene is in stark contrast to the first floor; cluttered display cases, old Italian opticians, and framed pictures of numerous celebrities in their Moscot moments fill the space.

Above are a few of the standout pieces from Moscot, the top one being our favourite: The heritage brand has taken their oldest Miltzen shape from the 1930s and revamped them in titanium. They’re a great piece if you want a bigger shape, but something distinctly different from the plastic standard.

Check out their Common Projects collaboration that brought them to the scenester forefront as well as a Complex special on the brand.

The first album by the Broken Bells (collaboration between The Shins’ singer/guitarist and producer extraordinaire Danger Mouse) came out a couple days ago and it is a great album. It’s particularly exciting as I’ve always liked The Shins’ and admired Danger Mouse’s work from the moment he came out with The Grey Album.

On their self-titled debut they are able to blend their respective sounds without having to reach very far to make it happen. This all makes it sound very natural rather then just sticking two famous people together and forcing them to make music.
