Power Drill - Cordless power drills are one of the top power tools because they will simplify a wide variety of different household tasks including tightening in screws and making repairs for example. While corded power drills tend to offer significantly more power, there is a lot of extra versatility that comes with having a cordless power drill that you can take with you anywhere that you may need it.

Reciprocating Saw - The reciprocating saw is most commonly used for construction jobs and demolition jobs, but having it at your home can also come quite in handy as one of your top power tools. It can be used in landscaping projects, disposal projects and other building projects as necessary. If you have outdoor tasks in mind that require the use of a good, sturdy and capable saw, then having a reciprocating saw is definitely going to come in handy for you.

Circular Saw - Having a hand held circular saw variety in your home is a must have when you are serious about owning the top power tools. This is an extremely versatile saw that is probably the most versatile out of all of the different power tool saw varieties, and it can help you with rip cutting, cross cutting, slat cutting, fence cutting and deck building as well. On occasion, you should test your thermostat with a thermometer to verify that it is giving accurate readings. Place your thermometer next to your thermostat for around ten minutes, and then compare the readings of each. As long as they read within 5 degrees of each other, then your thermostat is functioning properly. If the readings are greater than 5 degrees from each other, then it needs to be replaced (if electronic) or recalibrated (if Mercury switch based).

Many people make the simple mistake of lowering the thermostat by too much in the evening. If the thermostat change is greater than ten degrees, it could incur a greater cost than expected. When the morning comes, the furnace will have to work even harder to make up for that 10 degree drop. Also of note, if the temperature outside is going to be around 0 degrees or colder, then you should not even bother lowering the thermostat on that night, as it will prove unnecessary and cause inefficiency.

Check the position of your thermostat in the room, even if it has been in that position for awhile. The installer may actually have made a mistake, and there is a chance that the thermostat has not even been installed in the proper location. There is also a chance that something has been changed or added later on that is allowing for a false reading to be given. You should be checking your thermostat in order to make sure that you are not getting a draft from somewhere else. You should also make sure that nothing hot is present around the location of your thermostat, such as a radio or a television for example, as these items are more than capable of forcing false readings out of your thermostat.

If you do realize that your thermostat is in need of being replaced, or if you realize that you need to change the location of your thermostat, then this can be done quite easily. If you need to relocate your thermostat, then you should make sure that you are checking the specifications by the owner for each unit. All you are going to have to do is run some brand new wiring to the chosen location. This is going to take a little bit of time and some decent labor, but it can definitely be done. If you are replacing an older thermostat, the process is much simpler. There are typically two pieces to a thermostat, the base and the body.

The head or body is the unit that you actually see on the wall, containing the controls. The base is the piece that is screwed into your wall. Make sure that you turn the power off to your thermostat before you remove it, and follow all manufacturer instructions when installing the new one. If you don't follow the manufacturer instructions, there is a good chance that you will end up causing damage to your home, your thermostat or yourself, which means that being careful is definitely necessary.

If there are two of you sharing a bathroom, it can be frustrating if you are both dealing with the same sink. One of the easiest ways to update a bathroom for two is to add another sink. But you want to do it in a way that is attractive -- and that doesn't take up too much room. Updating the bathroom for two requires some planning.

Make Sure You Have Enough Room

The first thing you need to do is to have enough room in your bathroom. Before you start looking at bathroom vanities, it is a good idea to know how much room you have. Use your tape measure, and get some graphing paper. Use the graph paper to mark out the size and shape of your room, with one or two squares (depending on the size) indicating a foot.

If you already have a long vanity, you can add a cabinet over the toilet to accommodate the items you will have to remove from drawers to put in a sink. If your vanity isn't big enough to add in another sink, you will have to replace it with a bigger vanity. See what can be moved around to accommodate the bigger vanity. Remember that you will want about 20 to 30 inches between the centers of your two sink basins. If you have more than 30 inches between the two, you will have difficulty using a single waste line to tie the two together.

Other considerations with regard to space include making sure there is enough room to open the bathroom door and/or shower door, and you should have 12 inches from the center of the sink to the nearest wall. Make sure you check with the specific codes in your building or town to ensure that everything is done correctly.

Deciding What to Put In

After you know how much room you have, you can then decide what you want to put in. There are a number of different options these days. You can add sinks that sit low in the vanity, or those that have the appearance of bowls sitting on top. You will also need to decide what faucets you want. You will need to make this decision partially based on the number of holes in your sink, as well as the position of these holes. Figure out how much the material will cost, and what will need to be done for installation. It is generally easiest if you can tie the two sinks together, since that requires the least amount of specialized work.

Choose fixtures that will fit in your bathroom (using the diagram you made with the graph paper for reference), and that you can install with relative ease -- unless you are willing to pay someone else to install.

Installation

Once you have everything squared away, it is time to install the new sinks. Make sure you follow directions, because double vanities can be a little tricky. Read everything first. While you can do it yourself, sometimes it is a good idea to get someone knowledgeable about home improvement to help. If the job is too complicated, you should pay for installation, since fixing something you mess up could end up costing even more.

Whether you live in an old house that has original wooden floors, or if you have a pet problem with staining, taking care of stained wooden floors doesn’t have to be difficult. Before you think about replacing expensive wooden floors, there are a few options that you can try that are much more cost effective. These simple solutions may help you save quite a bit of money.

The first step to take is to determine what the stain is, if at all possible. If you are dealing with pet stains, then the cause should be obvious. This can be a problem, especially if urine or feces have soaked through the boards, and into the subfloor. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to replace the entire floor. Here are some tips to get you started.

First, purchase an enzymatic cleaner that is rated for removing pet stains. These can usually be found in pet supply stores. You may also want to purchase a special blacklight that can be used to help highlight any old urine stains that may no longer be visible to the human eye. Follow the instructions on the enzymatic cleaner, and use the blacklight to determine whether or not any residue has been left behind.

The stains should be lessened and any odor problems should be removed, provided that the material did not seep through the boards and into the subfloor. If the odor is still present, you can try cleaning it one more time, since many enzymatic cleaners do require two applications. If you’re still not seeing the desired results there is one more option that you can try before ripping out the entire floor.

Purchase some Killz paint at your local hardware store. This type of paint is usually oil based, so you will need to get the proper clean-up supplies for your brushes and rollers. While there is a Killz that is water based, it is not generally as effective as the oil based solution. If you like, you can start with the low-odor, water based Killz first, and then top coat it with the oil based version if it does not work.

Paint the entire floor with Killz and allow it to dry. You can typically add a second coat after an hour if necessary. For bad stains or particularly awful odors, two coats or even three may be necessary. What this paint does is basically seal in any odors, giving you a clean slate. You won’t be able to refinish the wood floor, but then again, you won’t have to replace it either. A few gallons of Killz are a lot cheaper than an entirely new floor.

This solution works well for other types of stains, especially if they are soaked into the wood. However, for slight problems or if you want to retain the look of your wood floors, stripping them and restaining them is probably the best option, even if it is a little more expensive.
