In a revealing interview in the new issue of GQ magazine, Billy Ray Cyrus talks about how he felt when he saw the video of daughter Miley Cyrus smoking a bong on her 18th birthday and his belief that her star-making turn in the Disney show “Hannah Montana” helped wreck his family.

“My kids learned to color on this table,” Cyrus tells the interviewer about the table at which he was sitting when he first saw the video. “There’s been a lot that’s went around this table. Waylon Jennings sat right there in that chair and showed Miley the chords to ‘Good Hearted Woman.’ Sitting in that chair. This table’s a bit like life. It’s a circle. And I believe everything in life is a circle. You come into this world a little teeny wrinkled-up fetus …”

Cyrus, who is in the midst of attempting a musical comeback, stresses that he “never made a dime off Miley” in the lengthy chat, in which he also clarifies that he’s not her manager, though he played one on “Montana.”

As for Miley’s now infamous 18th birthday bash, Cyrus said he didn’t want to go because he was tired of taking the blame in the press every time his daughter did something outrageous. “You know why I didn’t go? Because they were having it in a bar,” he said. “It was wrong. It was for 21 years old and up. Once again all them people, they all wanted me to fly out so that then when all the bad press came they could say, ‘Daddy endorsed this stuff. …’ I started realizing I’m being used. If I would have went out there, I would have been right in the middle of all this stuff that’s going on right now with the bong. They’d be hanging it on my ass. I had the common sense … I said, ‘This whole thing’s falling apart up there and they just want to blame all of this stuff on you again.’ I’m staying out of it.”

When Miley’s handlers were scrambling to try to head off the bong photo scandal in the days afterward — trying to “make kids’ computers disappear and their phones disappear” — Billy Ray said he was told it was “none of my business.”

He now realizes, he said, that instead of trying to be Miley’s friend, he should have been her parent more often and warned her to slow down. “Honestly, I didn’t know the ball was out of bounds until it was way up in the stands somewhere,” he said. “Season four, it was a disaster,” Cyrus said of the January 2010 start of “Montana.” His marriage was falling apart, along with his family.

“I’ll tell you right now — the damn show destroyed my family,” he added.

Billy Ray did not speak to her in the weeks after the bong video went viral, but he made sure via text that she knew he was supporting her. “You know what, there’s no doubt I did stuff when I was a teenager that I’m sure could have turned out horribly,” he said. “I’ve done some stupid crap — I do stupid crap. We all do. But it’s different when you sit back and you see it happening to your little girl. I feel like I got to try. It’s my daughter. And some of these handlers are perhaps more interested in handling Miley’s money than her safety and her career.”

Cyrus said he’s scared because he believes there are people around his daughter who are putting her in a “great deal of danger.” He recalled how he became friendly with Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain in the early 1990s when they met backstage at a venue and how they bonded then over the recent birth of their daughters.

“One more thing about Kurt — Kurt was one of those guys. That’s why I’m concerned about Miley. I think that his world was just spinning so fast and he had so many people around him that didn’t help him,” he explained. “Like Anna Nicole Smith — you could see that train wreck coming. I was actually trying to reach out to Anna Nicole Smith, because I kept telling [ex-wife] Tish and everybody around me, going, ‘This is a disaster.’ Michael Jackson — I was trying to reach out to Michael Jackson. I knew he had kids, and I was going to invite his kids down to a taping of ‘Hannah’ — I just felt it would be good for Michael. I don’t know why. I met Michael one time at the Grammys. He sat in front of me, in the front row, and a dime rolled out from under and hit my boot — this very boot I’ve got on — and I reached down and picked up this dime, and looked, he was going through his pockets, and I said, ‘Are you looking for this?’ ‘Thank you.’ And he took that dime and put it back in his pocket. I looked at my manager, I just said, ‘Why did Michael Jackson have a dime? …’ Nobody could tell me.”

Asked if he thinks his daughter is headed in the same tragic path as Cobain, Jackson and Smith, Cyrus said, “I don’t know. I’m her daddy so maybe I’m a little sensitive to it, but now’s a real good time to make sure everything’s OK. An ounce of prevention’s worth a pound of cure.”

If you’re a Miley Cyrus fan, here’s some news that’s “like, prit-tay cool!”

The 18-year-old singer/actress is slated to host “Saturday Night Live” for the first time on March 5, People.com has confirmed. Unlike some previous genre-spanning celebs who have hosted the sketch-comedy show such as Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Lopez, though, Cyrus won’t pull double duty as the evening’s musical guest. There’s no word yet on who will provide the musical entertainment on the episode.

The teenage phenom has been something of a fixture on “SNL” over the past season, with new castmember Vanessa Bayer’s dead-on impersonation of the “Hannah Montana” star in the sketch “The Miley Cyrus Show” seen semi-regularly on the late-night program.

In it, Bayer — joined by Jason Sudeikis as her overly eager dad, Billy Ray Cyrus — portrays Miley as she interviews other celebrities while often interjecting her own stories and expressing that everything is, well, “pretty cool.”

Cyrus — who has two upcoming comedy films, “So Undercover” and “LOL,” in the works — has also been the butt of some jokes because of her now-infamous bong/salvia-smoking moment, which was all caught on tape and posted online in December 2010.

The teen sensation has since addressed the incident, admitting in a recent Marie Claire cover story, “For me it was a bad decision, because of my fans and because of what I stand for.”

In addition to the “SNL” hosting gig in three weeks, Cyrus will appear at Sunday night’s Grammy Awards as a presenter.

Miley Cyrus is ending the summer as a single lady. The teen queen has split from her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth after more than a year of dating.

Hemsworth’s PR representative confirmed the “Can’t Be Tamed” singer and her beefy Australian beau have officially called it quits. “It’s true,” the actor’s rep told RadarOnline.com. The news comes after reports that the couple were getting serious. According to Radar, Cyrus recently purchased a $3.4 million house, not far from her parents’ California home, where Hemsworth was a frequent guest.

Hemsworth and Cyrus struck up a romance after meeting on the film set of “The Last Song” in 2009. The pop star said earlier this year that although she wasn’t on the lookout for a boyfriend, Hemsworth won her over with his gentlemanly charm.

“I kind of just wanted to focus on my work. I tend to hide behind my work sometimes,” Cyrus said on “Ellen” in March. “But I met him, and he opened the door for me, and I was like, I have been in L.A. for three years and I don’t think any guy has actually opened the door for me. It wasn’t that he wanted the job. That’s just who he is. I was like, ‘Wow, that is super-impressive.’ I actually turned to the director and said, ‘He’s got the job.’ He’s hot and he opened the door. Excellent.”

Cyrus, who dropped her latest album, Can’t Be Tamed, in June, said that much of the LP was inspired by her romance with Hemsworth.

“There are a lot of songs that are about Liam,” Cyrus told MTV News when Tamed was released. “I tell him every one’s about him,” she quipped.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have seemingly sung their “Last Song,” and new details about the couple’s split are surfacing. According to sources, 20-year-old Hemsworth may have been stepping out on Cyrus, who has been focusing on her career.

E! News reports that earlier this month, Hemsworth was seen flirting with admirers at a party in Newport Beach and hooking up with another young woman while partying in Huntington Beach during the US Open Surf Competition. Cyrus, 17, has been in Detroit filming the flick “LOL.”

“Ever since she left for Detroit, Miley has been super focused on her work,” a source described as an “insider close to the former couple” told E! News. “Liam wanted more, but she’s 17 and has other priorities right now. He’s been a distraction. [Miley's] not with anybody else.”

Despite that assertion, rumors are now circulating that Cyrus may be spending quality time with co-star Adam Sevani. A photo of the pair allegedly hanging out on the set of “LOL” has circulated, although it is unclear if it is actually Sevani in the picture.

Hemsworth, who was seen hanging out alone at a Dave Matthews Band concert earlier this week, has reportedly visited the set of “LOL” twice. “Both visits were only about 24 hours in length — by Miley’s choice,” the insider told E! News. “She is not ready to settle down, and Liam’s not a happy camper.”

Breakup rumors have plagued the duo in the past, and they have been denied by Cyrus. And E! News’ source said that the couple may not be completely over just yet: “They’re both young. To say they are done forever would be premature, but it’s safe to say for now they are doing their own thing.”

However, Hemsworth’s rep . Cyrus’ refused to comment.

Miley Cyrus is cleaning out her closet — for a good cause.

She’s just announced plans to auction off her clothing and accessories on eBay. The proceeds will benefit Get Ur Good On, a social network aimed at connecting youth with volunteer and service opportunities in and around their communities.

“For me I get this amazing blessing and opportunity to do this every day and get up on stage and hopefully inspire people with my music,” Cyrus said in a video message posted on the Get Ur Good On site. “And that’s something that’s really important to me, but so is getting involved in charities.”

In recent months, it’s been Cyrus’ clothing (or lack thereof) that’s garnered most of the headlines. But the new auction is just the latest charity endeavor she’s undertaken with Youth Service America, the organization that runs Get Ur Good On.
Earlier this summer, she served as a spokesperson for YSA’s “Blessings in a Backpack” mission, which provides weekend meals to children on free- or reduced-lunch programs.

“There’s amazing charities right here in America. You don’t have to travel 30 hours … you don’t have to give a billion dollars. It’s not about how much or how far, it’s about looking at your neighbors and seeing how you can help,” Cyrus said. “This isn’t just stuff that’s all over the world, it’s right here, it’s right next to you. It’s important to get involved.”

Cyrus’ Get Ur Good On auction is scheduled to begin later this month.

Miley Cyrus has a country star watching over her, and it’s not just dear ol’ dad (and “Hannah Montana” co-star) Billy Ray Cyrus. Country legend Dolly Parton says she’s also looking out for the teen queen.

“I’m her fairy godmother,” Parton told The Associated Press.

The “Can’t Be Tamed” singer and the blond icon joined forces in May for a duet — a rendition of Parton’s 1973 hit single “Jolene” — during a celebration of Dollywood, the singer’s namesake Shangri-La. Parton showed the teen superstar some love after performing with her for the Hallmark Channel special taped earlier this year, commemorating 25 years of the Tennessee theme park.

Miley has been getting some heat lately for what her critics say is an increasingly sexed-up image, a budding persona at odds with the inoffensive sass of the Disney series that launched the teen to stardom. However, Parton, who has built a decades-long career and entertainment empire blending sweet, down-home wholesomeness with bubbly, busty sex appeal, maintains that Cyrus is headed in the right direction.

“I’m just real proud of her,” Parton said. “She does not need my advice, but she’s often asking for information and advice, and I tell her what I know, but I think the girl’s doing all right without me.”

In addition to the Miley/Dolly duet, the special will feature performances from Kenny Rogers and Billy Ray, who has known Parton since he first burst onto the scene in the early ’90s with his mega-hit “Achy Breaky Heart.” Parton said the tribute show thoroughly represents the successful amusement park.

“There are a lot of wonderful things,” she said. “It shows the park really great, and the audience and all the people that work here, so we’ve really covered it in every respect.”

Ke$ha wrote the title track from Miley’s hit EP The Time of Our Lives and said that the singer, who was recently praised by Timbaland, was a lot of fun to work with. She added that when she was writing for the “Hannah Montana” star, she took her formula for writing party songs and applied it to Miley’s tween audience. The result? A bouncy, Auto-Tune-filled pop ode to — what else? — having a good time.

“Well, like I said, I just write all the time ’cause it’s all I can do,” Ke$ha told to MTV News. “Writing for Miley was fun ’cause I think she’s funny. I met her and I liked her vibe, so I was like, ‘OK, I’ll write, like, a party song for a younger crowd.’ … And that was fun just because I like her.”

Ke$ha also had the distinct pleasure of appearing on Britney’s Circus song “Lace and Leather.” And while she never got the chance to meet the pop star, she said the project came at just the right time.

“And for Britney Spears, I just did backgrounds for her ’cause I was so broke. I needed to pay my rent,” she said. “I got a few bucks. No, [I didn't meet her]. I just did backups for her.”

“I had very little [time] with Miley, but I was astounded by her height,” Parker told MTV News while promoting her flick, “Did You Hear About the Morgans?” “Did you know that she’s tall? She’s like a Viking. I had no idea!”

And while Cyrus filmed her brief cameo as herself for “SATC 2,” Parker noticed that the teen’s stature (which much be higher than her last reported 5-foot-4) was matched by her professional attitude.

“She’s a beautiful young lady and very self-possessed,” she said. “I literally was not in the scene with her. I was in the scene, but we were not [onscreen] together. But she was lovely and on time and prompt and professional, very sweet. She worked two hours and she was in and out.”

Someone who may or may not be in and out of the flick is John Corbett, who was spotted in Morocco around the same time “SATC 2″ was on location there. Parker said she “can’t confirm nor deny” that her former co-star, who played Aiden on the show, is in the movie. “It might have just been coincidental that he was traveling,” she said cryptically.

“I can confirm that there is no Jennifer Hudson,” she added of the singer who played Carrie’s assistant in the first movie.

Parker said the sequel is intended to be a lighthearted “caper,” unlike the first movie, which took a dark turn when Big got cold feet at his wedding to Carrie. “It had a lot of sadness in it,” she said. “It was bleak — intentionally so — and I thought rather bold.

“And this is really like the antidote, [like those] black-and-white road movies, or that’s what we hope,” she added. “We’re hoping that it’s fun and light. It feels like a soufflé. We’ve traveled a great distance to film it, and I think we have beautiful cinematic images and pictures, and I think everybody else is really good in it. I’m probably not, but I’ve enjoyed doing it.”

Nick joked that the guys may need to step up their game before that happens. “I don’t know — we’ll see. They do a lot of the crossovers,” he told MTV News. “Our two shows are shot a little differently … so they could, and we’ll see what happens. Right now we’re just trying to get our acting together before we have guests.”

Until Miley books herself a guest spot on the show, Nick did say that there will be some changes on the series. “There’s a lot of new changes, a lot of exciting things. I think for my brothers and I and the rest of the cast, we’ve all [said we want it to be] the best it can be,” he added. “Really giving it our all. We’ve grown as actors. Hopefully we can bring the fun and a better show to the fans.”

Fans are also anxiously awaiting “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,” in which both Joe and Nick find onscreen love. So, who does Nick think makes the better movie boyfriend? “That’s a funny question,” he laughed. “I don’t know. I think that Joe and Demi [Lovato's] chemistry onscreen is great … it’s a great story they have. I don’t know how to judge myself when it comes to that. I’ll just have to let people decide for themselves what they think.”
