A few weeks ago I discovered something quite concerning. All of the images on my personal blog were no longer functioning. Every image automatically defaulted to the “Error 404 Page Not Found” argument.

I contacted my hosting provider for answers. Alas, none could be discerned. However, an even more startling revelation was uncovered.

The issue with the images is not new. According to the support technician, it has been present for well over a month as the original photographs were not even found in the hosting providers backups of the site.

Essentially this ‘image issue’ puts a spotlight on the unfortunate realisation that I do not update my personal blog (I am too focussed on Vamers and Vamers Store). If I did do so on a regular basis, I would have been well aware of the issue as it happened.

The last time I updated my blog in a personal capacity was 10 months ago. This is after I swore to update on a regular basis. Well, I did update… Just not my personal blog.

Over the last ten months I have been developing and dedicating resources to Vamers. I post weekly about anything and everything that interests me from a geek popular culture, video game and technology perspective. Hence the lack of posts here on my personal blog.

I still think about my personal blog and I am saddened that I have let it sink into cyber decay.

I can change this lull though. How long will this refreshed resolve last? Only time will tell.

For the last two years I have enjoyed Uncapped and Unshaped Internet from MWEB. The only downside is that our line rental is still held with Telkom – an aspect I am currently in the process of changing.

Thus when I came across this little marketing gem from MWEB, which flips a subtle bird at Telkom, I knew that I had to share it.

Paris in Motion is a spectacular stop-motion video of scenic locations throughout Paris set to the hauntingly beautiful ‘Angel’ by Massive Attack.

This fantastic video was created by filmmaker and photographer Mayeul Akpovi using his own personal DSLR cameras, a tripod and a lot of patience. The end result is breathtaking.

Everyone knows of the infamous phrase: “I’ll be back”. It is one that is inextricably linked to Arnold Schwarzenegger and his portrayal of a cyborg assassin in the 1984 movie The Terminator. 

The thing about Arnold is that his acting skills have never really been very good.

As a result, he is only predominantly well known for the following:

1. Being The Terminator.
2. Having had an incredible Hulk like body.
3. Ruling as the Governator of California.
4. Schtuping his maid and siring an illegitimate love child.
5. Having an uncanny ability to blurt out incredibly memorable ‘one-liners’ in movies.

Today’s post is about point number 5.

I hail from the small town of Benoni. The same prestigious little place that the gorgeous blonde bombshell’s Charlize Theron and Charlene Woodstock originate from. Of course, that is not all that Benoni is known for.

Other than Benoni’s landmark mine dumps and scenic lake-view vista’s, the small little town is renowned for people who religiously choose to continuously dress like they are stuck in an episode of MacGuyver.

Their most notable trademark? The “Benoni Pony” – also known as a ‘mullet’.

I am writing about the infamous Benoni Pony because it features heavily in a video that is currently going viral in South Africa called “Business in the Front, Party in the Back!”.

The video is a brilliantly executed tongue-in-cheek look at the importance of a ‘bakkie’ in the lives of ‘ordinary’ South African’s.

Last week I discovered one of the most interesting and beautiful songs I have heard in a long time.

The song is called ‘Crystallized’ and it is a classical music and dubstep mashup from Canadian artist Lindsey Stirling.

Although I am by no means a fan of dubstep, I did find that Stirling’s interpretation of the genre crossed over beautifully with the classical tones of her accomplished violin skills.

In fact, I would be interested to hear more classical music mixed with dubstep if future songs can match the brilliant composition and pace of ‘Crystallize’.

Six months. That is how long I have neglected my blog. This was not meant to be the plan for 2012.

2012 was supposed to be the year of the blog for me. Alas, other priorities continuously took preference over sitting down and writing. I want this rut to change, I want to write. All I need to do now is, well, to do it.

Today, I officially submitted my Masters thesis.

I am finally done.

I almost shed a tear before leaving the local PostNet. It felt like I was leaving behind a part of myself. I was suitably, and still am, a bit emotional about it.

My Masters thesis has been a part of my life for the last few years. I have worked on it for countless hours. It became a part of my daily routine. It was my job. Now it is no more.

Although I am relieved to have finally finished, I am also incredibly anxious.

This intense anxiousness stems from the inevitably looming question: “what now”?

I hope you will join me on my journey forward as I try to find the answer.

Steve Jobs has passed away.

My sincerest condolences to his family.

I may not have known Steve Jobs personally, although I wish I did, I am deeply, deeply, saddened by his death.

Steve was an inspiration to many, including myself, and his innovative vision and quest for perfection will be sorely missed.

Rest well Steve and suffer no more.
