The Top Six Reasons Companies are Still Scared of Social Media

I read this. Do you recognize these reasons why you are scared in implementing a social media strategy?

1- Employees will waste time with social media.
2- Haters will damage our brand.
3- We'll lose control of the brand.
4- Social media requires a real budget! It's not really cheap, or free.
5- They're scared they'll be sued.
6- They're scared of giving away corporate secrets or that information on social networks will affect the stock price.

Ok, but what about this comment?

Social Media marketing is a real life example of chaos theory. You set the initial conditions and let it roll, reassess, reset conditions, re-roll. Time and money are definitely committed in such a scenario, and should be. But never before has there been the opportunity for your brand to become viral. To use the above excuses to not participate or have a social media strategy is very short sighted.

Hhmm still time to think things over I think. Time is changing very rapidly. If you are not in social media you actually do not exist virtually. Woosh!

Just read the booklet (pdf) from Kodak's Chief Blogger: Jennifer Cisney via @denkbeeldhouwer on #picnic09. Some great tips in it:

Brands must…
• socialize with their customers because “top-down” advertising isn’t going to work by itself.
• develop a credible voice along the parameters of engagement, humility, and authenticity.
• make their social relationships more symmetrical—that is, with value for both the brand and the customer

Top 10 list for Twitter usage:
1. Become familiar with Twitter by reviewing, or following, the activities of successful brands such as Dell (dell.com/twitter), Zappos (twitter.com/zappos) and Comcast (twitter.com/comcastcares).
2. Listen to what is already being said on Twitter about your brand.
3. Identify initial objectives for using Twitter, including what would qualify as a Twitter success story for your brand.
4. Look into competitive activities and potential legal considerations, especially if there is already a Twitter account that uses your brand’s name or other intellectual property associated with it.
5. Use the findings to decide on the appropriate opportunity such as offers or community building, tone of voice and method of engagement—that may be right for your brand.
6. Since Twitter is an ongoing activity—even if your company is only listening in—dedicate a resource to monitor the conversations and competitors.
7. Map out a plan for the content you will share, including valuable initial content to pique user interest.
8. Integrate your Twitter account throughout your marketing experience, by embedding it as a feed on the company Web site, including its URL in communications and so forth.
9. Maintain momentum by following everyone who follows you, responding to queries and joining in conversations without being too marketing oriented.
10. Provide ongoing direct value through your tweets by continuing to listen, learn and fine-tune your Twitter activities.

4 students
It was a pleasure to work with these 4 ladies. 3 Of them are students at HAN Life Sciences and the girl who did the interview is studying at Intenational Business Studies.

No controlmode
The students had a great chat together without questions which they had to answer. Great to see that if you step out of the controlmode people open up themselves. And in this video´s you see them behave in a very natural and open way. Great job they did!

About school, weather, food, international office
In this 4 video´s the students talk about their lives in the Netherlands, the weather, their studies, International Office, their ´mother´ at HAN Life Science and so on and so forth.

Yesterday I met 4 ladies studying at the HAN. 1 student from International Business Studies and 3 students from Life Sciences. They had a kind of conversation about all kinds of things which are of interest for foreign students. And of course I was filming them.

Because I blogged at lot about MIT and about Scratch, it is obvious that this MIT LabCast cannot be ignored. It is about the first conference focused on the ideas, applications, and joys of Scratch.

Today the factulty of Technology of Han University of Applied Sciences was visited by a delegation of Wuhan Planning and Design Institute (WPDI) from China.
Some presentation were done by the Information, Communication and Media (IMC) department of HAN and from Built Environment.
I shot some videosnaps during a presentation and their tour throught the IMC building.

What I liked very much were the performances of some students groups of HAN HLO. During the visit of Sinterklaas at HAN HLO for the international students music from various countries were performed, such as China and Indonesia. In this video you can see and hear some of them.
Sinterklaas was enjoing this very much.
