Evernote = Awesome scouting tool

As these days I seem to be a bit behind the curve as far as technology goes, I’m sure this is old news to most of my photographer friends, but I’ve recently discovered Evernote! It’s a really great tool for taking some notes and having it sync across multiple devices.

But where I get excited is its ability to create notebooks that have pictures that are geotagged. This is a really great tool for location scouting. I no longer have to try to remember where the heck that great looking tree or hill was. I just take a photo of it and it’s in my “locations” notebook along with its geographical location. No muss, no fuss! If you haven’t tried it I definitely recommend that you give it a go.

DJ Laszlo: Remixer Extraordinaire

DJ Laszlo, one of the fastest risers in the Denver dance scene, came by the studio to update his portfolio of promo images. He’s currently working with Britney Spears, Rihanna, and Adam Lambert among others to remix their songs. Not too shabby for a Denver man! We at Hans Rosemond Photography are certainly looking forward to seeing where his career takes him!

Not just because of the challenge of getting just the right facial expression mixed with body posture, lighting, and the look of the clothing, but also because it’s rare that the model can keep a straight face for long. One day I should make a blog full of outtakes of models losing it.

In an effort to start posting more, I’m going to start making simple posts with a single image and a little blurb about the shot. Going to try to do this more often than once a month. ha! Let’s see how it goes. So here’s shot #1:

One of the great things about being a location photographer (and I mean great in a sarcastic way) is lugging equipment around. But my lighting has become so integral to my style that I feel naked without it. Sometimes I end up not using my lights and going for a softer look. This was not one of those times. Interesting tidbit: It was freaking cold!

I had a fun outing the other day doing golf portraits for Kia, an avid golfer! We had a really great time rolling around the course. I think I might just have to take up the game. There are beverage and snack carts that sell you food and drink while you’re golfing. That’s just stupidly great. Now if I can just figure out how to golf with a Red Bull in one hand…

Getting my camera wet – Denver Portrait Photographer

When you shoot athletes as I do, there comes a time when you eventually have to put your camera in some potentially dangerous situations, whether it be from dust, dirt, snow or extreme heat. But I think by far the most nerve-wracking element to expose my camera to is water. Even though modern camera bodies and lenses are water sealed/resistant, it still turns my stomach to feel water hitting me in the face (and hence my camera) while I’m shooting. I tend to get very close to my subjects so when they’re splashing about or I’m hovering inches above a body of water, it tends to make me nervous. But it’s still so worth it!

Get out there and take some risks. What’s the worst that can happen?? Don’t answer that.
