Coron, Palawan 2014 [Coron Island Tour]

Coron's most famous tour destination is the Coron Island Tour or the Tour A. This includes the visit to the cleanest lake in Asia, the Kayangan Lake. Also included are the CYC island, Twin Peaks, Calachuchi Island, and Hidden Lagoon.

First stop: CYC (Coron Youth Club) Island

This is a small island with fairly white sand. It was low tide when we came there so we have to walk a bit far from the water to the island. There is really a nice view of the sea if you're in the island - a perfect view to pose for a photo.

Our bangkero told us that there are beautiful corals in the deeper part of the sea and so we put our snorkels and life vest on and searched for the fishes and corals. Not to far from the island, our eyes was filled with joy upon seeing these:

The island of Coron always has something to offer. Each island has hidden gems that one must discover.

Second stop: Twin Peaks

If you really love to see bunch of fishes and you have limited time to go to Banana Island, this is the perfect place for you. The perfect clear water allowed us to see the fishes roaming around the moment we reached the place.

By the way, the name speaks for itself. It was derived because of these two twin-like islands:

If you really want to see more fishes and interact with them nearer, jump off to the water with your snorkel (and lifevest if for safety) and you will sea how lovely it is under.

Third stop: Calachuchi Island

Named after the flower calachuchi which, according to our tour guide, were abundant in the island before, this place is where we had our lunch. The island is also surrounded by big rock formation. Since we thought that we already had a lot of interaction with fishes and corals on the first two destinations that we've been to, we just chose to roam around and took some photos while waiting for our lunch.

Fourth stop: Hidden Lagoon

Another must-see place in this island (or did I say this to all the places I mentioned?) is the Hidden Lagoon. It was named as "hidden lagoon" because it's located and hidden in the middle of high limestones and the boat must go in between those big rock formations for us to enjoy the clean and fresh water of this body of water.

Hidden beach has a brackish water with mangroves surrounding it. The bottom part of the water was warm because of the salty water while the top part of it was so cold because of the fresh water. The feeling of having sauna will make you not want to come out of the water because you will feel cold.

I will recommend that you just enjoy the place and swim around. Anyway, there are no fishes to see under because of the water temperature.

Fifth stop: Kayangan Lake

As the famous line goes, "Save the best for last." I am wanting to see this place the time I booked our flight few months ago. I was really excited to see how beautiful this place was. Imagine, it bested all the lakes in Asia and was hailed as the Cleanest Lake.

Excitement went higher when I learned that we will be trekking because the lake where we will be swimming was located on the other side of the big limestone.

Around 40 to 50 steps up and we reached the peak which is the best spot to take a picture of the famous lake. Another steps down and we got to rub elbows with the lake. I am beyond words. That day's your was supposed to be our first but I am most thankful that it all turned around.

My stay was complete that moment I saw the island's hidden treasures.

For dinner, we opted to go back to Corto del Mar because we were informed that they have promo every Sundays (Buy one pizza and get a free drink) and because I really missed their deliciously fresh pizza.

Aside from pizza, we ordered pasta. Knowing me, I have this default order when it comes to pasta.

Tadan! Carbonara! With lots of parmesan cheese on the side :)

I thought my stay was complete after the island tour but it is true that good things really come in package. Seriously, I almost cried upon tasting this. This. was. the. best, tasting. carbonara. I. have. tasted. so. far! I am very vocal that before I've tasted this, my favorite carbonara was that of Cafe Lidia's in Marikina but know it's Corto del Mar's!

I love the not-too-creamy sauce of the pasta. It was not too salty for me and the cheese! I could also say that the pasta was freshly made and every ingredient complements each other.

Okay, good places plus good food, two hand up for you, Coron! I just have one problem, you are too far for my craving! Haha!

We called it a day and prepared for our quick souvenir shopping and flight the next day.

A big part of my heart will stay with you, Coron. You got me with your beautiful scenery, clear blue and torquoise water, variety of corals and fishes, cliffs, and of course, carbonara!

One piece of advice, when travelling to Coron, if possible, book a longer stay. I knew that because we stayed 5 days and 4 nights and was able to see most of its wonders. If you could extend more than this, do it!

Coron, Palawan 2014 [Las Islas Eco Tour]

If you loved the beaches of Coron, you will surely love this another tour that you may also try if you visit Coron, Palawan - the Las Islas Eco Tour. This tour package includes the Siete Pecados Marine Park, Barracuda Lake, Dimanglet Beach, Coral Garden and Lajala Cultural Village.

Let's proceed.

First stop: Siete Pecados Marine Park

Siete Pecados literally means "seven peaks." It was named after the seven islets surrounding a magnificent marine park.

Our tour guide that day allowed us to see this marine park that Coron is boasting about. It did not surprise me upon seeing how wonderful the under water world is. There were lots of variety of fishes swimming in groups. Some will play around you and some were too shy that they just stay somewhere private. It just made me feel sad upon seeing some dead corals.

We were told that those dead corals were caused by the typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) but it made me feel better when he informed us that they are doing ways to keep it back to life.

Second Stop: Barracuda Lake

According to some, it was named Barracuda Lake because of the barracuda fishes that were once living in this lake. True or not, I was so excited to see this lake since I always hear its name whenever Coron tour is being talked about. To see the lake, one must do a little trecking of around 30 to 40 steps.

The other side of the cliff is where the famous lake is located. Our bangkero/tour guide told us that it is perfect for divers because of its depth.

I was amazed with the clear water of this lake. If you look down, you might think that it is just 3 or 4 feet deep but it's actually more than 10 feet deep. Here, we just enjoyed the not-so-cold water while looking at the high cliffs surrounding it.

Third Stop: Dimanglet Beach

As part of the package, free lunch were always served by our bangkeros. We then proceeded to Dimanglet Beach to have our lunch.

It is a secluded white sand beach that I actually heard for the first time. Right after having our lunch in this calm beach, we rested for a while and then proceeded to our last destination for the day.

Fourth Stop: Lajala Cultural Village

Lajala Cultural Village is a small village that was devastated by typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) last year. As of the moment, the government is helping the people start a new life by constructing houses for them.

These houses were all being built by the people of Lajala with the guidance of the government. Instead of simple hallow blocks, they're using soil mixed with cement to create a brick-like material.

These bricks will then serve as the house's wall. Each house costs P150,000. P100,000 for materials and P50,000 for the labor. Another thumbs up for this Coron! As I've said, something is better than nothing. At least, people will not feel that they were left out after what happened.

Each day is a new day to learn and on that day, walking around the place and seeing the people of Lajala smiling and cracking some jokes reminded me again of how grateful I must be with my life. And hey, whatever happens, we must not forget to smile!

For dinner, we ate again at Kawayanan Grill hoping to find lobsters which were really craving about for the past months. Sadly, there was none :( Instead, we ordered crabs and squid which are also good since all are fresh.

This tour made me appreciate this place more. From the beautiful lake, secluded beach, to the people who touched my heart, it's indeed another day well-spent in Coron! :)

Never get tired of LOVING

“Love is the most wonderful thing one can ever feel.” We often hear this and I know we all believe in this. But as we know, love is more than a feeling – it is an experience.

In my almost 25 years of existence in this world, I cannot say that I know everything about love. I always believe that I have a lot to learn. Love for me came a little early and from then on, a lot has changed about my perception about it. Before, I always believe that when you love someone, you must be willing to give everything that can make her/him happy. Now, I still believe in that but I've learned that while you’re willing to give everyhting to make someone you love happy, you should be happy too. Making someone happy can be tiring but if you can feel the joy of doing it, it will never make you feel tired.

True love is not easy to handle. We all know this reality. There is no such thing as smooth sailing love from the beginning 'til the end. True love may start with a storm. It may also be smooth in the start then gets rocky in the middle. You are two different persons from different families and values. There is no way everything will just fit in a snap of a finger or a blink of an eye. Arguments will occur and that is just fine. All you have to do is talk, try to understand where one is coming from, and compromise. Learning how to deal with personal differences is never easy but it is always worth it.

Love always comes with pain. Do you remember giving up the one you love because she/he is in love with someone else. At first, of course, we fight. (We know that we will all fight for the one we love, right?) We thought that fighting for the one we love is the right thing to do but sometimes it's not. So I guess, the right thing to say is: It is alright to fight but know when to stop.

Love is like two persons pulling a rubber band. Nobody gets hurt if the two are just pulling it in balance but if one lets go of the pull, the other one will get hurt. What’s worse is that, the harder you pull, the more you will get hurt.

Pain may always be part of love but we must also remember that pain must serve its purpose. Have you heard about the pain your mother has to suffer just to make sure you will be brought in this world safe? Remember how God died on the cross to save us from our sins? As for me, I realized that maybe, I was hurt because we needed to be happy. Letting go means no one will be suffering in a relationship where one cannot reciprocate the love of the other. This will always be the story of love – of unconditional love. We sometimes have to choose pain over comfort to protect our loved ones or to save them from more pain.

God never forgets who loves truly. I know He never did because I once failed, twice broken, and thrice stood up – all for love. All those times, I felt Him there. I know because I asked and He answered, not in my time but in His. I know He was and will always be here telling me not to give up, reminding me not to lose hope for love.

As one of my favorite bible verses states, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

Through pain, we learn. We may all fail in love but true love will never fail. Count how many times you have failed and suffered in love, double it, and that’s how strong your heart is. Imagine how strong your heart will be if more pain has been suffered by it. The stronger your heart is, the more love you can give.

I just trusted love and of course, God. Now, I’m reaping the fruit of all the patience I've invested for love. That’s why I’m telling you: NEVER, EVER GET TIRED OF LOVING.

Winter Garden Desserts

Have you heard about the nitrogen ice cream and desserts? I am hearing much about this new craze but was able to try it few days back. Thank goodness for Paula, one of my closest friends from my previous work, who was craving that time.

Along the stretch of Katipunan Avenue where lots of food chains are located, we found this newly opened nitrogen dessert house called Winter Garden Desserts. I fell in love the first time I entered the place because of the color and relaxing ambiance (okay, because the color motif is blue).

The place was a bit small but so cozy that you may want to stay for long hours while enjoying your desserts. It opened last September 2014 and is now making its name to the students of the schools surrounding it.

Because we just had our lunch and was still full, we decided to just buy assorted desserts that we can enjoy while having small talks. To our surprise, our order was served in this very cute presentation.

Assorted desserts include chocolate sticks, popcorn, marshmallows and chocolate bars (all on stick) which we have to dip into the nitrogen liquid served to us.

As instructed, we need to dip it for 10 seconds then it will be frozen.

I love how the desserts are being innovated as the generation also changes. The next time we will pass by this dessert house, I will definitely try their nitrogen ice cream and will share it with you.

Winter Garden Desserts is located at Katipunan Avenue, beside National Bookstore, behind Sango, and in front of Ateneo de Manila. It is open daily from 12:00 noon to 10:00 pm.

Coron, Palawan 2014 [Sun, Sea, and Sand Tour]

The world has a lot of natural treasures and Philippines is one blessed country to be given a lot of those gems. Coron is an example and as promised, I will be sharing more of this piece of paradise.

This tour is composed of three islands, namely: Bulog, Banana, and Malcapuya.

These beaches can be reached through a motor boat from the town proper. The travel time from the town proper is 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Let's start with BULOG ISLAND.

Bulog Island was our first stop. It's a small island with almost white sand, big rocks, and two islets. The famous sandbar of the island connects the islets.

We stayed here for 20 to 30 minutes then moved to our next destination where we had our lunch, the BANANA ISLAND.

Banana Island wowed me at first glance. I am a sucker of white, fine sand beaches and look what we saw when we arrived.

Our bangkero told us to enjoy the beach while they were preparing for our lunch. Upon hearing this, we grabbed our snorkels and camera, had a quick photo shoot with the beach, and then run to the beach.

Who can resist taking photos if you have this view in front of you?

At first, I was just enjoying the white, fine sand while looking at the water but this "snorkeling addict" guy convinced me to do snorkeling because according to him, "I will see the world" if I go with him. Being "uto-uto" that I was, I did not think twice and went over with him. Nothing about what he said was wrong. See photos below to know why.

Banana island is more than a beautiful island, it is beyond that. One may admire its beauty above but it's more magnificent under. The various types of fishes that will welcome you and the wonderful corals were beyond all expectations. After the meet and greet with the underworld creatures, we had our sumptuous lunch then went back to bid goodbye to all of those sea creatures.

The third island is the MALCAPUYA ISLAND.

This island also has a white sand beach with a typical set-up: tall coconut trees, nipa huts and clear water.

We did a short snorkeling but after finding out that there's only few fishes, we just enjoyed soaking ourselves in the water. Anyway, we've seen a lot in Banana Island. Maybe the island is really intended for swimming and relaxation.

These three beaches were all beautiful. They all have individual beauty that you cannot compare one to the other (but I love Banana beach among the three haha!). One thing that they have in common? All are preserved and taken cared of by the people of Coron. I hope we could also learn to take care of the places where we are living. If we do this, I am more than sure that our nature will give everything back to us.

Coron, Palawan 2014 [Town Tour]

My life is an open book to most of the people who knows me in real life so I will be lying if I will say that I am not addicted to traveling (in the Philippines). I started being too addicted to the beauty of God's creations in the country last 2012 when I went to Puerto Princesa, Palawan with my mother, brother, and my forever travel buddy, my boyfriend (I will do a separate post about it). I think, he's really a heaven sent to me since I don't have anyone to drag (and spend some money) to go to places I really want to go before. So yes, I am trying to bring this blog alive by adding some travel blog posts.

Let me start with this recent place we went to - Coron, Palawan.

I must admit, above all the places I've been in Palawan, including Puerto Princesa and El Nido, this one truly captured my heart so far. Coron is just a small island where you can just walk around the town (if you're not tired after your tour) to find good places to eat at or just see how people live in this simple paradise.

If you're not into walking, you can also ride a tricycle which only costs P10 per person if you will be going to places around the town. And yes, tricycle drivers, as to what we've experienced, are fair to everyone and don't take advantage of their place being a tourist spot in the country-- no additional charges or special rides for tourists. Thumbs up for this, Coron!

Now, let me try to tour you in Coron through this blog post. We came at Busuanga International Airport at around 9 or 10 in the morning.

This will welcome you to Coron as you leave the airport. I really love the green and brown colors of mountains and trees!

Our first day is also when our Town Tour will take place so as soon as we checked in, we rest for a while and called the foodie in us to come out because it's lunch time.

Being prepared as we are, we usually read articles and blogs about the place where we will be going. I will also advice any traveller to do this if you will visiting any place for the first time. This will equip you with the do's and dont's about the place and of course... the perfect places to eat at. This is definitely tested but you may also ask the locals because they may have better suggestions than that of what is written on the web.

For our lunch, we headed to Lolo Nonoy's Food Station. We both read that this place offers cheap but delicious food. I forgot to take pictures of our food since we are really hungry that time but we ordered lechon kawali which is good for sharing and these thirst quenchers since it was so hot in Coron during that time.

So let's start the Coron Town Tour. As I've said, Coron is just a small island that their town can be toured in just half day or even an hour if you ride a tricycle according to our tour guide/driver.

First stop: LUALHATI PARK

This park reminds me of the park we also went in Puerto Princesa. The only difference is that it is smaller and simpler. This is also where people gather in the morning before their tour starts. What I love about this place is its simplicity and calmness. It can be a truly quiet place in the afternoon where you can just sit and stare in the beautiful view.

Second stop: CORON SOUVENIR SHOP

I am really not used in doing shopping on the first day so what I only bought is our obligatory souvenir shirt and ref magnets. We thought that it is still best to shop for souvenirs on the last day and we can always come back since it is just located in the town. Anyway, in this famous souvenir shop where celebrities usually do their souvenir hunt (photos of celebrities who've been there were posted on their wall and counter), is where you can find all sorts of souvenir. You can find shirts, key chains, ref magnets, coin purses, food (mostly cashew products), swim wears, and a whole to more.

Third stop: CASHEW NUTS PRODUCERS

Unfortunately, it was closed the time we visited it but again, we can always come back and Antipolo, where we live, is also known for cashews :)

Third stop: MT. TAPYAS VIEW DECK

There is no other way to the top but surely, it will all be worth it

This is the highlight and the most challenging part of the town tour. One must climb 723 steps (as I counted it). Some said that it's 742, some 720. Whatever the right number of steps is, I am more than excited to climb this mountain because I've heard that the view above is really breathtaking. By the way, according to what I've read, the mountain was called "Mt. Tapyas" because a part of it which was used by the Japanese forces as their military camp was literally chipped off when American forces came in the Philippines and bombed the mountain. "Chipped" which is "tapyas" in tagalog then became "Mt. Tapyas" as we call it now.

At first, it was just like, "okay, let's do this" but it is not as easy as that. I feel like giving up in the middle of the trek. The only thing that's pushing me to finish is the fact that I will see Coron in a different and more beautiful view.

NOTE: The hardest part of the climb is the last part because it's very steep.

There is also a cross that will remind us to pray and stay humble after every success that we receive. That time, the successful climb is what we thanked for.

After the tiring but worth it trekking to the summit of Mt. Tapyas, we went to our last stop, the MAQUINIT HOT SPRING.

A bit of trivia, Maquinit Hot spring is one of the few saltwater hot springs in the world. It is surrounded by lots of mangrove trees which adds to the relaxing ambiance of the place. Unlike other destinations in the town tour, Maquinit is quite far from the town proper. It is a 30-minute rough road drive to this place.

As soon as we enter the place, Kuya Anton, our driver/tour guided, handed us our merienda (Pansit + Bread + Soft drinks). The food is usually part of the tour package. Too bad, it's almost dark when we got there so our camera wasn't able to capture good photos.

Since our legs and feet are really tired and Kuya Anton told us that he usually bring tourists here after the treck at Mt. Tapyas, we then took a dip to the spring. At first, it was unbearable because it was too hot for me. I think the temperature ranges from 39 to 40 degrees celsius. Still, I tried because I remembered, it will not be called "hot spring" for nothing. The heat turned into warmth and I almost forgot how it felt the first time I dip my feet.

The water started to sweep all the pain in my body, especially those in my legs and feet. It was so relaxing. The water was very therapeutic that all you have to do is find your perfect spot, dip, and listen to the gentle sound of flowing water. Just take note that it is not recommended to stay too long in the spring because of its hot temperature. 30-40 minutes is just right.

To cap off the day, though we're still full because of the big serving of pansit we had, we just went to another foodie place that is popular in Coron to taste its famous pizza. Why pizza? I know, we always want to try the local food in a place that we are visiting but according to my research, their pizza is a must-try! Anyway, we are looking for something light for dinner so we went to CORTO DEL MAR RESTAURANT.

Corto del Mar is one of the most expensive hotels in Coron. One night costs P5,000 plus for the standard room. The ambiance was so inviting and relaxing. Their restaurant, which is open to the public, is located near the hotel's swimming pool which added to the place's "coziness." Here's what we ordered:

True to its size, it was really big that we weren't able to finish it all. Maybe we're just really full that night because of the big serving of pansit that we had. What I like about this pizza is that you can taste how fresh the tomatoes and basil are and it has a generous amount of mozzarella cheese. Anything with lots of cheese is perfect, isn't it?

It's just our first day in Coron but I was really in love with the place. The honesty of people, the simplicity of living and the great places and food, who will not be? Take note, it's only the town tour. I'm sure, you will also love this place more after seeing the islands and other bodies of water on my next blog posts.

READING: A Decade Before versus Today

“Reading can take us places.” This is one of the famous lines that we know about reading. Many people love to read because it is one source of information. It is even a source of happiness to some because with it, one can feel and do anything. The importance of reading has been spread from one generation to another by just making it a daily habit before sleeping or just to kill time.

The variety of subjects to read is infinite. From reading the newspaper in the morning, doing research in the library for homework, to just finding a good novel which you think can relieve your tension and be in another world, a person can surely find the perfect one. Whatever it is, it can surely make or break anyone’s idea.

Holding a book, sitting on a chair, and taking down notes inside the library are the best way to describe the traditional reading. We read each word while choosing which one can help us or we can relate to. Some also do highlighting to give importance to some words, phrase or sentences. But this type of reading grows as decades passed by. Even the place where people read became coffee or internet shops instead of library.

Technology has developed the kind of reading that people are used to doing. A book on a hand two decades ago became computers, tablets and even cellular phones today. The true words printed on each page before became downloadable and can now be read on the screen. Without going in the library or bookstore, a person can read a lot of things straight from a gadget.

Change will forever be the only constant thing in the world. Anything can change as years go by. With technology, almost everything became instant that anyone can read his or her favorite novel right after few clicks. This is good when it comes to pleasure reading but it may not be good when it comes to academic reading. Some children nowadays neither read books nor go to the nearest library for their homework. Instead, they surf the internet, type the question and ask google, bing or yahoo, then copy and paste whatever it is that is written there without even reading it.

Development is good so as the growth of the technology. The only thing people should learn is how to use it properly. Though the form of reading may change from one generation to the next, people should not forget that it is one of the best things a person should enjoy and learn from.

Last night, before I fell asleep, I thank God for this another year. After that, I said a little more thank you's and some prayers. Without me knowing, it's already past 6 in the morning. I woke up so early because of a too good to be true dream; a dream that answers almost all of the prayers and wishes I whispered last night. Then I told myself, "Si Lord talaga, walang kupas." I rushed to the bathroom to prepare for this long day.

While riding a jeepney, the man beside me handed me a piece of paper then he said, "Wala yang bayad, libre lang." I looked on that paper he is giving me then I saw a bible verse. Without hesitation, I grabbed it and read it (feeling ko, message ni Lord sakin yun for this day). It felt good when I saw the man smiling while I am reading it. Again, I told myself, "Lord, thank You for reminding me that though I am a sinner, You are still here to make me feel loved specially on this day."

Going back to the house and opening my laptop, I saw a lot of messages, tweets, and posts greeting me a happy and blessed birthday. Once again, I told myself, "Thank you, Lord, for these people who love me despite my weaknesses and flaws. Simple greetings are more than enough to make this day special to me."

Truly, things that cannot be seen are more than all the material things in this world. On my 24th year, I must say that I feel more blessed knowing that I have people who truly loves me. With the overflowing love and happiness I am receiving, I don't think I need to ask for more.

Lord, again and again, thank you for continuously reminding me of the things I should do. Thank you for your constant love and (quick) answers whenever I pray. Above all, thank you for this not-so-perfect yet wonderful life you have given me and for making me live it with a purpose.

To all who remembered my birthday, thank you! Please know that those greetings are all appreciated. Thank you to all who texted (ooops, my smart number's temporarily not active), called, posted and sent messages on facebook, twitted, and of course, to those who greeted me personally. You're all the reason why I want this life to be lived well.

Today, I am alone here in our house because I am sick since Friday. Thinking that I may not able to attend a mass later afternoon, I decided to find a Sunday TV Mass. At first, I wasn't able to find one. Maybe because I woke up at 8:00 am and it may be late for Sunday masses so I decided to just watch this dog feature at Solar News Channel. Lucky enough, after the program I was watching, a Sunday Mass started.

The mass began and I watched and listened like the usual thing that I do every Sunday. The homily was about learning to choose between good and evil. The priest said that each of us must live like a lotus that lives in a dirty place but when its flower blooms, it is still pure white.

Before the mass ended, the priest gave a short prayer to those watching from home. I close my eyes and just listened. He prayed for those who are suffering because of typhoon Glenda, those whose hearts are broken, and those who are sick. I prayed simultaneously with him. I called God and asked Him to heal me and my father completely. Suddenly, I felt like someone hugged me. There's this different warmth that I felt and then my tears run down.

I don't know if it is just because I am sick or what but I want to believe it's God who hugged me to let me know that I am now healed. I am so glad that today, I had even a second physical encounter with Him.

I believe that He is always listening to us, especially to our deepest prayers because He never failed to answer me. Indeed, Lord, You are my Healer, my Savior, my Father. Thank you for your unending love.

I don't know what's pushing me to write this late at night. Maybe because of the guilt I've felt when I saw comments on this blog a while ago or it's just this time of the day when I can't sleep or maybe because I just woke up from a short nap or... okay, no more excuses. I am writing because I want to.

Working in a place where great dishes cooked by excellent chefs are everywhere makes me feel lucky. In fact, I feel luckier because our free lunch isn't just simple lunch. I mean, it is still cooked special. On top of it are the sweets prepared during meetings and those that we can take home. With all these, who am I to complain?

But as time passes by, it feels like I need to change something. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate food. I always feel blessed each time I eat because I know that while I am eating, there are some who cannot afford to eat. It's just that I believe that I should change for the better and that this change is to start eating greens.

I admit it, I eat vegetables but I don't eat those leafy thingy. I don't know why but I just don't feel like eating it. I don't like the taste and the after taste. Okay, too much excuses again. This time, I need to change not because I need to but because I like it. Fine, I need it to... because I am not getting any younger and I think including greens on my vegetable list is a good way to prepare for the years to come.

So thanks to salad dressings, especially to thousand islands and balsamic vinaigrette, and also to all those food that goes well with salad. Now, I am starting to eat those leafy things. Although not all but at lease some. Here's one of those greeny things I ate courtesy Earth Kitchen:

And congratulations to myself! It's been a year since I stopped eating junk food everyday.

I think, it is really change that is truly inevitable in life. Let's just make sure that we change only for the better. In my case, I am changing for better health.

To all those who still cannot eat vegetables or greens like me (before), try it! As the old saying goes, "There's no harm in trying." I just did and it no harm to me! :)

Life has been good to me for the past 22 years of my life. The combination of happiness and sadness, and success and failure makes every step of this life worthwhile. As Voltaire once said, “God gave us the gift of life; it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well.” To live well is what I am looking forward on this 23rd year of my journey and I know I can live it well with beautiful people surrounding me.

With this, I thank everyone who gave a minute of their time to greet me and make me feel loved on my special day. All of it are truly appreciated. All of it are reminder that I should continue being a blessing for others and appreciating all the blessing I am receiving. All of it make me want this gift of life to be lived well.

AUGUST: Favorite Month ♥

Favorite of the month is here! Hooray for the 8 months of waiting! :)

As I've mentioned, August is my favorite month. First, because it is my birth month and second is because I don't know if it is just coincidence but good things usually happen during this month of the year.

There's just one thing I don't want about it — RAIN. Oh well, I know I cannot get rid of it so I've learned to enjoy celebrations with it.

I don't usually wish for any material thing on my birthday (err, I'm turning 23!). I only wish for my loved ones good health. But let me have this simple wish for myself now: for time to slow down. I always feel so happy during this month that time really flies so fast!

It's the 1st of August today. I have 30 days left to enjoy before Ber months, which are the fastest months of the year, come.

I also love December but not as much as August :)

More than writing, which I admit I seldom do nowadays, I also love to watch movies (especially love stories), which I am up to now. Why?

So, yes. Here I am again after months of not updating this blog. No excuses this time :)

Why? A simple and short question that we always use, ask and hear. We are used to use the question 'why' whenever we can't understand things that are happening. We usually ask 'why' whenever we want an explanation. We actually use it whenever we are not satisfied with the answer given to us. We usually see questions answerable with yes or no with 'why' that follows after. Why is there need for an explanation? To know the worth of our answer? To defend our answer? Or just to convince the reader to believe you? But we never realize that most of the times, the question 'why' aren't that important.

In this phase of my life, I learned not to ask 'why' too often. Of course, I still do but I just realized that in this life, I don't have to question everything around me. Instead, I have to understand that things happens for a purpose. In fact, I am glad that upon looking back, I can't remember any chance that I question God about anything. Maybe I am just lucky or I just learn to be grateful for whatever it is that I have in my life.

Trials may come. We may feel down at times. Things may not go our way but trusting instead of asking why is better. There really are times when we will not understand what is going on but believing that we are strong and we can make it will keep us going. Yes, it may be hard but soon, it will be worth it.

While asking why is what we are used to do when we don't understand things, it is still and will always be good to do something and stop asking. Everything will pass but having one God will always remain.

And yes, I can feel my age while typing this. For sure, as I continue my journey, more realizations will come and I'll always be glad to share it here.

This Good Friday...

This Good Friday, we will be reminiscing the death of our Lord who died for us. He suffered, accepted the cross, and died to save us from our sins. He died to give us life.

This Good Friday, let our day not pass without praying and saying thank you for His gift of life and unconditional love. By acknowledging what He did for us, we can at least understand the meaning of our lives.

This Good Friday, may forgiveness be in our hearts. Let us forget about the hatred, anger and let peace and love be in us.

This Good Friday, we may opt to celebrate the holiday with our family but let us at least spare some time to stop what we are doing to pray and reflect.

This Good Friday, 3:00 p.m., let us remember how God gave His son and let Him died to save us which is the true meaning of Lenten Season.

Looking Back on 2012 as I Welcome 2013 ♥

As my yearly way of welcoming another year, I always post a look back on all the memorable/significant things that happened in the year that have past. I always cherish everything that happens to me because good or bad, I know that we will learn on it.

Now, let me start.

JANUARY

My friend, Ghe, got married and now carries the name of Mrs. Geraldyn Jano-Amul. I thank God for another phase of her life.

Celebrated Chinese New year with my family. God let the start of my year be the best one by allowing us to see each other again. We seldom celebrated occasions together but there is nothing impossible with God. Thankyou, Lord! :)

FEBRUARY

We got a treat for a job working hard. Holiday season has been a tiring season for employees like us and because we work hard, a treat was given to us: A very relaxing stay at Wensha Spa.

Another year came yet another life was taken. This month, one of the music icon, Whitney Houston, died. We all mourned but the thought that she has touched our lives helped us understand her death.

MARCH

I was invited to be the guest speaker of my Alma Mater, Bagong Nayon IV Elementary School during the preschool graduation. I always believe that all of us has the power of touching lives and I am grateful that I have given the chance to touch theirs.

Lileth and I weren't lovers but yes, we celebrate anniversary of us, being working girls. We both started working together during our college days (while waiting for our graduation) until we part ways and work separately. Now, I am glad that we are both happy to where we are now. Last year's our 2nd year!

APRIL

Lenten season is always part of me, being a Catholic. We must give thanks to the sacrifice that God has done for us. A day of reflection. A day of giving thanks. Thankyou, Lord, for dying for us.

MAY

May is mothers' month. I am always looking forward for this month because I always want my mom to feel more special on this day. I am grateful for having a mother who is not just beautiful, but a caring and loving one.

First time in Baguio. I had a lot of fun in Baguio with friends. We grabbed every chance we had during our stay. I love the cold breeze and the beautiful scenery of every place we visited. An escape to the heat of city made me love Baguio. Another dream also came true, I had a chance to pick strawberries with my own hands! :)

Celebrated Ang Tipulo Festival. The colorful SUMAKAH (Suman, Kasoy, Hamaka) Festival always gives life to the city. With the colorful costumes and lively performances of each participant from different parts of the city, one will surely love to witness it. I am very grateful that I have given the chance to be part of this significant event of the city. Being an employee in the City Government of Antipolo, we are also part of the program which usually starts with a parade.

JUNE

After mother's day is always father's day. We all know that we were not living with our father but it is still one of the things that I am also looking forward. I always want to thank my Papa for making us feel loved even if he's miles away.

JULY

Life is really a roller coaster ride. This month has been a very challenging one for me because I almost undergo an operation. Blessed that I am, I was able to surpassed the challenge without any surgery. Thankyou, Lord!

We all thanked the Philippines' Comedy King, Dolphy for the laughter that he shared with us. He passed away at the age of 83. May he rest in peace.

AUGUST

My favorite month because it is my birth month. I am now 22. I am very thankful that I know, from the deepest part of my heart, that I have a lot to be thankful for. From family, friends, down to all those who love me, you're all part of where I am today and why I am feeling this way. Above all, thankyou, Lord for the gift of life, THANKYOU, LORD! :)

I am also thankful because I now have this man who never stops supporting me all the way ♥

SEPTEMBER

Being overwhelmed by the past month gave me the idea of sharing a story from Paulo Coelho's blog entitled "The Circle of Joy" which reminded us of sharing love, goodness, and happiness without asking for it because it will all surely come back to us.

OCTOBER

This month has been a very busy month for us, government employees. I have nothing to share, only the love that I am always willing to give. Peace! :)

Baby Johann's baby shower led us to a small get together. I missed my EI Friends!

The Bears of Joy started the warm celebration of love for us. Christmas means sharing. I always believe that you don't have to have so much for you to be able to extend help to others. In fact, those who are needy really don't need much. Whatever we share, if it is from our hearts, it is more than enough. Anyway, material things aren't just the way to share, it is sharing LOVE and HAPPINESS that is more important ♥

DECEMBER

It's just last week when I greet everyone with a Merry Christmas! Let us not forget that this day isn't just about the material gifts that we will receive. Instead, it is about the love and happiness that we will share with everyone. Most of all, it is all about the celebration of our Father in Heaven's birth. Remember, He is the reason why we have this season. I hope everyone had a great Christmas :)

This will be a quick post since I am currently preparing for our Media Noche. I just want to thank God for giving me and my family another year.

New year's resolution can be read all over the websites and other online posts but I thought of now having one. Each year, I just tell myself to be better than the year that past and to love more than I could. Oh well, if that will be called a resolution, then so be it. haha!

This year was full of twist and turns but all I know is that I am grateful and very much blessed for what God has given me. I may not have all that I want but I know that what I have is enough for me. I am also thankful for all the people surrounding me who became part of my 2012. 'Til next year, guys! :)

I just wish everyone a Happy New Year and let us be thankful for everything that we have and will soon be having. Let this another year be a symbol of more love, happiness, hope and courage for another year that God will bless us.

Christmas=Sharing ♥

Yesterday was exactly 30 days before Christmas. Just like most of us, I, too, am excited for this joyful day. As much as being excited, I also can't wait to do sharing which is the true essence of this season (but it should be any moment we can).

It was mom's last rest day of the year yesterday since December will be a "No-Restday Month" for them. To celebrate it, we attended mass then ate merienda at SM Masinag. While having a merienda, I told them not to eat much since I will be preparing our dinner. After eating, we part ways because I will be buying ingredients for our dinner.

Upon going to the supermarket, we saw this cute Christmas tree filled with stuffed toys.

Boyfriend asked if I want one. I almost hesitate until I saw this:

YES! Those bears that are hanging on the Christmas tree are from people who loves sharing. For only P100, we are given a chance to share. Upon paying, you will be given 2 stuffed toys, one for you and one will be donated. As what the lady who are in charge told us, "May stuffed toy ka na, Nakatulong ka pa!" which is true.

Instantly, I said yes to this cute stuffed toy and named it YURI.

See? The recipient, though will not know you personally, will at least know your name :)

COMELEC Antipolo releases Voter's ID

The long wait is over. It was yesterday, November 5, 2012, when the Commission on Elections Antipolo started to release National COMELEC Identification Card (Voter's ID).

For the past months, my friends are always asking me if they can already get their Voter's ID since they have registered few years ago. Being in the City Government of Antipolo, it is one of our duties to inform the public about information like this but since there was no announcement for the last months (and I still don't have my own), the only thing I can tell is for them to check or call COMELEC. One thing more, COMELEC is a national office so the local government cannot answer for them.

Those who registered from January to June of years 2003 TO 2011 can now get their Voter's ID.

To my fellow Antipoleños who want to know if they already have their ID or have other querries, especially those who are far from the COMELEC, you can call 689-4568. To those who want to come, COMELEC Antipolo is just beside the City Government of Antipolo near Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Church (Antipolo Cathedral).

If confirmed, you should bring your registration slip or a valid ID. Authorization letter and Special Power of Attorney is needed if you can't come personally.

Voting is our right, let us use it wisely! :)

Hello, Sweet November! ♥

My friends from facebook and followers in twitter know how I am wanting time to run fast for this month to come. Okay, November isn't my birth month, it's my brother's yet it isn't also the reason behind my rants about it -- it's just that I am expecting something good and yes, SWEET this month.

It is All Saint's Day today and also the start of long weekend for most employees like me. I am glad that after being very busy for the past weeks, I now have the time to rest and be lazy. haha! Today, I just stayed at home with mom. My relatives who passed away are far from where we are living now so we just lighted candles and prayed for them. Mom also requested for a special mass for them.

Going back, cold wind is also here to remind us that Christmas Season is coming near. 55 days to go before the happiest day of the year! I am so excited! I hope days will run fast. I am really expecting a lot of good things this month :)

I wasn't able to post anything last month because of lots of work loads. Anyway, I'll try to write more this month.

As always, I am welcoming this month with all of my heart.

The Circle of Joy

Today is a another Monday. It is another week of work for most of us which means another opportunity to do something good. As I start my day, I tried to look on something worth sharing that can motivate us on this another busy week.

While searching on the internet, I remembered that I haven't visited Paulo Coelho's blog and as perfect as I thought, I found this story that made me want to do more goodness to others. It was entitled 1 MIN READING: The Circle of Joy.

A farmer knocked heavily at a convent’s door. When the brother doorkeeper opened the door, the farmer stretched out a magnificent bunch of grapes to him.

“Dear brother doorkeeper, these are the most beautiful grapes produced in my vineyard. And I come here to give them to you as a gift,” said the farmer.

“Thank you. I will take them immediately to the Abbot, who will be happy about your offer,” said the doorkeeper happily.

“No. I brought them for you,” said the farmer.

“For me?” The doorkeeper turned red because he thought he didn’t deserve such beautiful gift of nature.

“Yes!” the farmer insisted, “Because whenever I knock at this door, you open it. Whenever I needed your help because of the harvest being destroyed by drought, you gave me a piece of bread and a cup of wine. I want this bunch of grapes to bring you a little of the sun’s love, of the rain’s beauty and of God’s miracle, as He made it grow so beautifully.”

The doorkeeper placed the bunch of grapes in front of him and spent the morning admiring it. As the bunch of grapes was really gorgeous, he decided to give it to the Abbot as a gift, who had always stimulated him with words of wisdom.

The Abbot was very happy about the grapes, but remembered that there was a brother who was sick at the convent, and thought, “I will give him the grape bunch. Who knows, it might bring some joy to his life.”

And so he did. However, the grapes didn’t stay very long with the sick brother, because he thought, “Brother cook has been taking care of me for so long, nourishing me with the best there is. I am sure he will appreciate it.”

When brother cook brought his meal at the lunch time, he gave him the grapes.

“They are yours,” said the sick brother, “as you are always in contact with the produce that nature offers; you will know what to do with this work of God.”

Brother cook was fascinated by the beauty of the bunch. So perfect, he thought, that there is no one better to prize them as brother sacristan; as he was responsible for the guard of the Blessed Sacrament and many at the monastery saw him as a holy man; he would be able to value the marvel of nature.

The brother, on his turn, gave the grapes as a gift to the youngest novice, so that he could understand that God’s work is found in the smallest details of creation.

When the novice received it, his heart filled with the glory of the Lord, because he had never seen such a beautiful bunch of grapes. At the same moment, he remembered the first time he came to the monastery and the person who opened the door to him; it was this gesture that allowed him to be in that community of people who knew how to value miracles today.

Before the nightfall, he took the grape bunch to brother doorkeeper.

“Eat it and enjoy it,” he said. “Because you spend most of your time here alone and these grapes will make you very happy.”

The doorkeeper understood that the gift had really been destined to be with him, so he savoured each grape of that bunch and slept happily.

The circle was closed — the circle of happiness and joy, which always stretches out around the generous people.

Reading this gave me a lot of motivation to share the joy and blessings that I have right now. What I have now may not be as big or high as some may have but by sharing it, I know that it will grow more than I can imagine. Life is a cycle so are all the love and happiness we share to others. As an old saying goes, "Happiness multiplies when it's divided."

Share love, goodness, and happiness and without asking for it, it will surely come back to you.
