Good morning all ice fishing person’s, The ice report as I know it is; Burtis Bay 5″ to 6″ good ice, (thickest and safest, no issues). Long Point 4″ to 5″, Maple Springs 4″ to 5″, Prendergast 4″ to 5″(stay away from the creek). The Bell Tower all the way up through Mayville is only 2″ to 3″ with open water and many unsafe issues. Stay safe and stay off of that area. For whatever reasons the lake has not frozen in its usual patterns this year (according to the many locals I depend on for my information) and so can not be as predictable as past years. It’s prudent to take safety precautions no matter where you fish on the lake this year. Spud bars, ice safety pics and some kind of flotation device is always a good idea and especially this year. The ice is not as thick as in past years and there is still open water in some areas. Most of the guys are predicting a quick thaw when it does start to warm up this year so PLEASE always keep that safety gear with you. As for the fishing most of what I’m hearing is perch and blue gill. The perch seem to be running small all over the lake this year. Like anybody can get all over the lake! Right? Bluegill are average sized 5″ or so and not to many crappie yet (just a few strays). I have heard some walleye for the more adventurous type who don’t mind going out at night. Not a lot, but for the guys willing to work hard for them they are bringing in a few keepers. Happy Hookin, Lisa & Brian

For those of you who have heard rumors,

Yes it is true, the Happy Hooker is for sale. Brian’s job is moving him out of the area and since I don’t want to live by myself we have decide to sell the house and business. It sure wasn’t an easy decision. We are not going out of business. I will continue to run the shop just as I have with Brian’s help on the weekends. We are hoping someone will want to do what we did when we took over the store. Jane & Lonnie (the original owners) moved out on Saturday and we moved in on Sunday. It was seamless. It worked great for all of us. We are not gone yet though and will continue to provide our customers with bait and tackle. Please feel free to call the store with inquery’s.
