A Weekend of Wine for Charity

Whether you prefer red wine or white, all the wine gurus in town, as well as those just down for a good time, gathered for WineFest in St. Michaels the last weekend in April. The passerbies were treated to a variety of wine and food offerings in culmination with jazz tunes that made for a splendid weekend.

This year, WineFest was dedicated to the victims and heroes of the Boston Marathon. A big thank you to those who joined us at the fourth annual charity event, and also to those who sponsored the cause. Join us next year, as always the last weekend in April, for St Michaels’ fifth annual WineFest celebration. Looking for another great excuse to come to St Michaels in the meantime? There are many small streets to explore, a small dog park near the waterfront, and of course the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. Winefest at St. Michaels, April 27 & 28, is typically the kick-off of the season and one of the most popular events in St. Michaels. Held throughout town from 12-6pm, many businesses will offer wine tastings, great food, retail specials, and much more. There is an assortment of wines, one for every palate, coupled with activities and exhibits. New this year, JazzFest meets WineFest for a weekend of tunes and tastings. Pete Dye – Golf Architect Extraordinaire

The legendary Pete Dye, is a golfer turned golf architect as he fell in love with more than just the game. Although he was a champion golfer, Dye’s interest was really in the design and aesthetics of the course itself. He is a legend in the field of golf course design and construction throughout the expanding world of golf and has established a reputation for unique, environmentally friendly, and renowned, resort and public golf courses.

Innovative and deeply inspired by his 1963 visit to Scotland, Dye has over 100 courses to his name, many of which have hosted numerous PGA TOUR and LPGA events. Some of his more notable courses include River Course at Black Wolf Run, Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, and Ocean Course at Kiawah Island. Now in his 80’s Dye continues to deliver to golfers some of the most challenging courses in the world.

Built in 1971, the Harbourtowne golf course is an 18-hole, Par 70 course on the Chesapeake Bay waterfront. Harboutowne’s course is not unlike other Dye courses in that it incorporates some of the elements which are so characteristic of Dye. Trademark elements include high grass, deep bunkers, walls built of railroad ties and carefully constructed rough. The first nine holes are fairly wide open with bordering out of bounds residences, some water hazards and tall grass, while the back 9 are rather tight and tree-lined. Whether a rookie or golf pro, this course is sure to provide a fun yet challenging round of golf.

Meg and Marc’s Wedding at Harbourtowne

With scenic waterfront views, Harbourtowne Resort is the perfect backdrop for your special day. Meg and Marc were a beautiful couple that got to experience the whole Harbourtowne package. Their coral-themed bayside soiree was perfect for our local getaway destination. Friends and family gathered for an emotional, yet truly enchanting experience. We were happy to be a part of it. Fortunately, Carmen Wang Photography captured every breathtaking detail. More photos can be seen of Meg and Marc’s wedding on Carmen’s blog.

“We loved the wedding for many reasons: The beautiful couple, the awesome wedding with tears, smiles and laughter, the bayside view and the friendly venue staff,” said Ms. Wang. The couple chose sunset for their bridal portrait photos when the light was warm and beautiful. This, coupled with the diversity of scenic backdrops that Harbourtowne has to offer, made this wedding shoot extra special.
