It’s about as classic as they get, from its raked-out, brakeless front end to the all-star paint job to the rigid rear end.

Of course, the fact that it starred alongside Peter Fonda in the most famous motorcycle movie ever made doesn’t hurt.

Captain America was built by Fonda, bike customizer Tex Hall and fellow actor Dan Haggerty for the 1969 motion picture “Easy Rider.” It was one of two motorcycles, along with the Wild West-inspired “Billy Bike,” that carried Fonda and Dennis Hopper eastward from Los Angeles to New Orleans in their search for America.

Starting life as a 1952 Harley-Davidson Hydra-Glide, which Fonda bought at a police auction, Captain America retained its original H-D Panhead engine, while everything else was stripped, bent or extended for the chopper look.

Of course, that meant creature comforts like turn signals, a front brake, seat springs, a front fender and a horn found their way to the bottom of the trash bin. Everything left was then reshaped and dipped in chrome—well, everything except for the American flag tank and the ultra-high-back sissy bar seat.

Two Captain America bikes were built for the movie. One was stolen, along with both Billy Bikes, after filming, and the other was crashed in the final scene. Rebuilt by Haggerty, the crashed Captain America was sold at auction in 1996.

For 2011, the Harley-Davidson CVO Street Glide (FLHXSE) returns, rolling out on a new 19-inch Agitator front wheel, the largest-diameter wheel ever offered on a Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycle.

The new machine from the Motor Company keeps its style rolling for the Street Glide crowd, offering many upgrades. The ventilated fairing lowers house two of the six speakers that are part of a high-output audio system boosted by a new high-efficiency, 100-watt-per-channel amplifier. The audio system also incorporates an 8GB iPod nano with dock and holder located in the right saddlebag.

Harley says the side-fill fuel tank is topped with a flush-mount cap and LED gauge, and a new low-profile console. A new low-profile seat is faced with snake-style leather inserts, and the fairing is topped with a new seven-inch smoked wind deflector.

The new paint scheme is executed in four different color combinations, and for the first time, those colors are complimented by a specific engine color and finish, wheel finish, tank console finish, muffler end-cap style and inner fairing color.
Once you're buckled into your leather battle armor, you feel more like a boulevard terrorist than one of the beautiful people. The folks you meet at parties might be slightly in awe of whatever hyperfast hardware you might be riding, but they're usually far more thrilled by someone else's Pierre Cardin belt buckle. Since bike people have as much right to feel upwardly mobile and status-conscious as anyone, this situation seems a little unfair.

There are a couple of alternatives open to any biker who lusts after some glamour. You can buy a hot tub. Or you can wangle a luncheon with the editor of Wet, the Magazine of Gourmet Bathing. You can purchase a Bill Blass-signature Lincoln Continental. But if you're really after the kind of elegance that will rile up your friends and draw gasps of astonishment everywhere, what you need is a Harley-Davidson CLE Classic Sidecar.

Yes friends, you heard right. A freaky, three-wheeled rig can be your ticket to a whole new lifestyle of Hollywood premieres and wild parties. Harley-Davidson sidecars just drive them wild in glamour-land. It's got the romance of the open road. It's as exciting as any rare vehicle. And the fact that a sidecar, especially this one, looks perfectly frivolous, enchants just about everybody out there in Main-Street America. It's a fairy tale on wheels, like owning a zeppelin.

Harley-Davidson has some fairly prosaic reasons for building this limited edition of 200 CLE sidecar rigs, largely to do with reminding the public that Harley has always been in the sidecar market. Yet something more than just another cooking H-D three-wheeler is at hand here. This little rig cranks up Harley's touring act up about as far as it will go. You've got badges. You've got bags. You've got a two-tone sidecar. You've got spotlamps and flashers. It's as if Harley scoured its parts bins for every last gimcrack and chrome gee-gaw in a bid to make this the most glamorous Harley-Davidson ever.

The CLE functions as a celebration and a reminder of every sidehack H-D has built since the Twenties. In fact, this fiberglass hack with its semi-elliptical leaf springs, cast wheel and third-wheel drum brake carries pieces with parts numbers identical to those used 50 years ago. The car attaches to a standard four-speed FLH in just two places and it's meant to be mounted and dismounted at the owner's whim. The motorcycle itself has been modified with an oil cooler and lower gearing to help it withstand the strain of dragging a 300-pound chair down the highway. An adjustable lower triple clamp reduces trail to 2.6 inches to make steering (that's how you turn, not by leaning) the sidecar rig easier, while a steering damper soothes the shimmy that a three-wheeler is prone to.

A sidecar looks as peculiar as spats in 1979, but Harley-Davidson passes its creation off as a genuine touring machine anyway. And after all, that is the vision an English cartoonist had in 1903 when he proposed the concept (already invented in France) as a genuine transportation alternative. The sidecar made perfect sense at a time when few people could afford automobiles, since it held out the possibility of cheap motorized transport. Indeed, Thomas Watson acquired leadership in the sidecar field by manufacturing a folding sidecar which could be dismounted and stored along with your motorcycle in the parlour.

From the Twenties to the Fifties, the sidecar provided a genuine alternative to the automobile. Something over 18 companies were building sidecars in Great Britain alone during the mid-Fifties while the Watsonian concern turned out 200 units a week. But once cheap automobiles like the Austin Mini appeared, the sidecar market quickly withered. Three-passenger sidecars with convertible tops and little doors no longer made sense.

Sidecars still don't make much sense to motorcyclists, but as the motorcycle has become a purely recreational device, so too the three-wheeler has become a vehicle for fun. Harley-Davidson's example sure gives you a lot more fun for your $8000 than just a convenient place to park the groceries. This is an instant classic, the closest you can come to owning a newly-minted Pierce-Arrow. It's as much fun to look at as it is to ride in.

This sidecar amounts to nothing less than motorized sculpture. You've got broad-shouldered fenders with chrome trim. You've got reflectors and lights everywhere. You've got cast wheels and fat tires. There's two-tone paint. There's 12 square feet of chrome. There's Harley-Davidson badges and logos in every possible quarter. It looks larger than life, as if time had swept by and left it behind amongst Deusenbergs and other cars of the gilded age.

The mechanical bits and pieces of this rig also recall a time when industrial design seemed less confused. These days a relentless emphasis on function demands that every piece perform several tasks. But during the simpler era in which the Harley was designed, each piece was intended toprovide just one function. So the CLE isn't cast from a single lump of metal, it's composed of lots of little pieces. There's chrome covers for the exhaust crossover, separate left and right turn signal controls, intricate linkage bits for the heel-and-toe shift lever, a chrome band and cap for the oil tank. And each piece has its own peculiar shape, as if components had been slowly added to a single motorcycle for 50 years.

The sensations the loping 80 cubic-inch twin delivers are classical as well for every rasp, clatter and whine represents mechanical soul. No other manufacturer would consider or could get away an engine that might have been hammered out at a blacksmith's forge. But these sensations are the signature of the raw power this engine is supposed to deliver. Throttle response is indifferent, high-rpm power almost nonexistent and EPA-lean carburetion makes the engine spit back every once in a while. But no other engine can duplicate the steady locomotive-like quality of a Harley-Davidson. Stomping the transmission into gear may feel crude, but it's consistent with the engine's elemental character.

With all this architecture and mechanical force at your disposal, you're to be forgiven if you begin to feel like a flight engineer instead of just a rider. You sit on top of this motorcycle, not in it. Body- work extends in every direction. If you holler "clear prop" just before you engage the electric starter, everyone will under- stand, because the whine of the starter, the throb from the engine and the cloud of blue smoke from the twines eloquently recalls the radial engine of Errol Flynn's World War I SPAD.

Maneuvering this much machinery also calls for the talents of a pilot. You can't rely upon bicycle-bred instincts to get you around corners. When you want to turn this hunk of metal you yank the bars and point the front wheel in the direction you want to go. You're not a rider; you're a driver. The fact that the Harley seems set-up for Interstate use makes the steering feel even heavier. You need Hulk-size biceps to wrestle this creature on a mountain road, especially because the rubber-mounted bars are located too low for much leverage.

Riding most sidecars resembles barn- storming an airplane. You don't just corner you perform stunts. Because of the layout of the tire patches, a sidecar prefers to drift around corners. So you do all your braking before the turn and then accelerate through it, rolling off the brake and onto the throttle gently to keep the screwball dynamics of a three-wheel de- vice under control. On acceleration the CLE tugs to the right because the sidecar wheel isn't powered. On deceleration, the rig drifts to the left without engine braking because the sidecar wheel tries to pass you. If you want to turn more sharply to the left, you apply a little rear brake to let the sidecar wheel pivot around you. When you turn right, you must insure that the sidecar doesn't lift up so the trick is to use a little front brake to settle the hack on the road and simultaneously roll on the throttle. To tighten your arc you just apply a little more front brake.

Unfortunately most of these antics are denied to the Harley-Davidson rig. First of all, the big brake pedal operates a drum brake on the sidecar wheel as well as the FLH's rear disc brake. So while the added braking power is welcome in a straight line, you can't induce the kind of dynamics which can increase your cornering speed. In addition, the car shows a stub- born tendency to lift off the road, even when you've got a beefy passenger in place. This flaw tends to reduce enthusiasm for right-handers in a big way.

Part of the CLE's unhappiness with corners may stem from the amount of compliance built into the hack. The semi- elliptical leaf springs and two-point chassis attachment let the car bob up and down at will. As a result, the car digs in around left-handers, killing any drifts. Around right-handers the car seems to spring into the air.

While the functional content of this rig proves lower than other sidecars, no other motorcycle contraption redlines the enthusiasm of Americans quite like it. Little kids are forever pawing the CLE with their sticky hands and smearing ice cream on the fiberglass. It's a prize from a Crackerjack box come to life. Sober-sided businessmen weave from lane to lane on the freeway in their Mercedes Turbo-Diesels trying to get a closer look. Motorcyclists laugh and giggle. Best of all, women find the CLE irresistible. Boogie vans and conventional motorcycles might also thrill some females, but a sidecar somehow seems more socially acceptable. Park this rig anywhere in the vicinity of a shopping mall and soon the smell of bubblegum and perfume will be in the air, each young girl begging for a ride more plaintively than the last.

And why not? Riding in a sidecar is like owning your own life-size Tonka Toy. You're the envy of everyone within hearing distance of the Harley's chuffing exhaust, riding in a motorized rickshaw, bounding over the bumps with your nose in the air. Even the Matterhorn ride at Disneyland was never this good. The wind curls around the lip of the windshield and tugs at your hair while the cacophony of the engine just inches from your ear drowns out everything. Once you overcome your fear of riding in an exposed bathtub without a handlebar to determine your fate, a sidecar becomes the perfect sightseeing device, a deck chair on wheels. After a while, though, the experience gets a little intense, especially when the exhaust fumes begin to plague you and the vibration seems to resemble that of a runaway magic-fingers unit. Yet afterwards, the sheer kinesthetic thrill of it all ripples through your nervous system.

But the aspect of sidecar driving which proves truly habit-forming lies in the glamour the Harley-Davidson hack brings to motoring down the highway. Two pistons rattle up and down inside cylinders the size of water buckets, every piece of brightwork threatens to rattle off in the next few seconds, but you're in control. And the arch and swoop of fiberglass and chrome marks you as an individual of uncommon taste and individuality. People mistake you for someone seen in the Book Review section of Time. Your female companion is thought to be a starlet seen in the latest Steven Spielberg movie. Every trip around the block becomes a promenade. Finally—in the eyes of your neighbors at least—you are as remarkable as you feel.

The Harley-Davidson CLE is not a motorcycle. If you approach it with the same expectations as a motorcycle, you will be disappointed. But if you accept this piece of work as pure, gorgeous frivolity, an amazing combination of seat-of-the-pants sensations and the thrill of the open road, every ride will be an event. Soon you too will feel like one of the glamorous, beautiful people. After all, what other reason could lie behind the smiles that follow you wherever you go?

RIDE REVIEW

Now I know how celebrities must feel when they venture out in public. I got a free sampling of maximum notoriety every time I rode the Harley sidecar rig anywhere there were people present. I'd be the center of attraction, like a movie star at a world premiere. Actually, the sidecar was the real dignitary, but I felt eminent just being part of all the commotion. And inevitably I would have to field a mixed bag of questions, compliments and flat-out proposals to engage in activities ranging from the innocent to the illicit.

That's why it's hard for me to regard the Harley as a clankety, clumsy, inefficient anachronism, even though it is. Because I don't think of it as a motorcycle. To me, it's a nostalgic entertainment center, surrounding me with memorabilia of the past while taking me places I otherwise never would have visited.—Paul Dean

I've had it up to here with behind-the-back snickers and whispered jokes about mobile barbecue grills. I'm even more fed up with monologues delivered gratis on the CLE's unsuitability for fast runs through the canyons. All the purists who in the past month have sniffed at me from behind the anonymity of their tinted visors have nothing but my sympathy.

I'm not attracted to the big three-wheeler as some kind of competition for the motorcycle or just because it's flat beautiful (although anyone who can walk by the thing without stopping to admire the shape of at least one of the pieces has no soul and deserves whatever he gets). My fascination isn't tied to something that would surface in a bench-racing session. I just figure that as far as uncovering roots, Alex Haley has nothing, absolutely nothing on Harley-Davidson.—Larry Works

I've always hated sidecars. Stuck midway between automobiles and motorcycles, they always seemed like grotesque hybrids from some hideous laboratory in the nastier section of Detroit. Adding fuel to my natural dislike of the things was my experience as a roadracer; whenever sidehacks were on the track, they spread oil and rubber all over the racing line. I hated 'em.

Enter the coffee-and-cream H-D Classic, and, almost immediately, exit old grudges and hatreds. I love this thing. I love to look at it, to ride in it, to listen to it, and, God help me, to drive it. Not because it's fast, not because it's comfortable (it's anything but that) but because it's like an uncontrolled Disneyland ride. I wouldn't buy it for that reason alone, but I know that if I had it long enough, I'd eventually find reasons aplenty to park it in my driveway forever.—Steve Thompson

The Harley-Davidson FLH has been around for so long that few people take much notice of the yearly model changes. That's because usually not too much is changed; most differences occur inside where you can't see them, to improve and perfect the motorcycle. This year, though, H-D threw everyone a curve. The FLH received a new front disc brake, a change considered major by Harley-Davidson followers.

Other than that, though, the Electra Glide is still the same ol' motorcycle, save for a few minor items. Most guys who have been around the motorcycling scene for a number of years are at least somewhat familiar with the big machine; once upon a time there wasn't too much else around in the way of motorcycles. The new breed of rider, however, who's experience goes back only a couple of years, has probably never lifted a leg over the seat of an Electra Glide.
The FLH rider is a hard-to-explain breed. For him there is no other motorcycle. The Harley-Davidson biggie offers riders a certain something that no other motorcycle on the road has. We cannot tell you what it is, other than the fact that, indeed, the Glide is different than anything else we have ever ridden. There are things about the machine we don't like, and plenty of things about it that we do like. The only thing we can't explain is that Electra Glide mystique. We don't think anyone can, really.

The FLH is impressive for the same reason that the 747 airplane is impressive. It is big. Most people are impressed by big things; one can't help it. But size isn't the only reason that the FLH stands out in the crowd.

Harley-Davidson's use of chrome and bright colors certainly adds to the effect. With the "King of the Highway" group installed, the machine looks complete. Like one Harley-Davidson rider said, "There's nothing worse than a stripped Electra Glide." He's right. If you buy a bike like this, you may as well go all the way.

Our test machine had most of the goodies installed. The only things we were lacking were a radio and a cigarette lighter, and a few incidentals. Equipped as such, the test bike was quite representative of most of the Glides you see on the highway. Fully equipped the machine costs about $3,000 out the door, much too steep for many. "Whew! A $3,000 motorcycle," said the man at the traffic light. "That's more than this here car cost!"

So what do you get for three grand? Is it worth it? Well, there again, t o some people it's worth every last penny. Others laugh at the thought of anyone paying that much for this motorcycle. It just depends on where your head is at.

Contemplating a ride on the big bruiser fills the first-time FLH riders with all kinds of fears. Things like, "Can I hold it up?" and "What happens in a corner?" all go through the mind. And there it sits on its super-strong side stand, just waiting to make a monkey out of you — or at least that's what you think.

So, what the hell, you climb on. Anyone under 5'10" will be up on their tip toes with this baby. That seat is as high as it looks. By throwing the machine's weight from side to side you notice that if the thing got far enough past the center of balance, you might was well step off because there is no way you are going to hold it up. With that fact firmly in mind, you proceed.

Long-legged men will be able to reach the tab welded on the sidestand with their toe to flip it up, but the shorties will have trouble. Now you can worry about the other items. Seating position is straight up in the shock-mounted saddle: the bars are just right for this position. The grips are a hard rubber material, smooth surfaced and nice.

Down in front of you on Chef ive gallon fuel tank is the famous and familiar H-D dashboard. The speedometer looks the same as it always has, and it features an easily resetable trip odometer. A pull handle sits in the center and operates the choke, and warning lights tell you when the machine is in neutral, when there is no oil pressure, and when your high beam headlight is turned on. Green lights blink in sequence with the turn indicators, but to see any of these lights you must take your eyes completely off the road. The same goes for the speedo. It's well out of your line of sight.

Down at the base of the panel sits your ignition switch, a healthy knob that also operates the main lighting system. Unlock this with your key, and you're ready to give it a turn. The fuel petcock rests under the left side of the fuel tank, with the inner valve controlling the main fuel supply and the outer one the reserve. To fire the all-powerful electric starter, you turn on the ignition and hit the handlebar-mounted button with your right thumb, Usually a few revolutions of the starter will have the big V-twin thump-thumping at idle. It's one of the best sounds in all of motorcycling.

Ready to pull away, you notice how light the clutch pull is. Step down on the leftside-mounted shift lever and a resounding "clunk" lets you know that first gear has been engaged. Feed in some throttle and off you go. Two things come to mind as soon as you're underway. One is a surprising slow-speed nimbleness that you wouldn't expect from such a machine. As long as you've got the room there's not the trouble you'd expect in heavy city traffic. The other item is the vibration. At different points on the rpm scale the vibes get worse or better, but they're always there.

Shifting up and down through the gears brings the same "clunk" that you heard when dropping the big Harley into gear for the first time. They say that after a few thousand miles you can get used to the noise. What may bother you is the necessity to lift your foot off the footboards each time you shift gears. The position of the shifting lever is such that it is impossible to work it without major foot movements.

The brake pedal on the right side is much the same, but for some reason it's not annoying. The rear brake is a hydraulic drum unit that works well under normal conditions. We found, however, that it is sensitive in wet weather; the rear wheel can be locked too easily when wet. When dry, you don't seem to notice it until you make a panic stop. A little too much pressure and the wheel locks in an instant. In time you learn the machine's unusual traits; then they don't surprise you anymore.

The new front brake mentioned earlier was one of the changes most needed in the Electra Glide of the past. The new disc unit now makes the machine much safer to ride in any situation, and it looks good besides. The H-D people now need only to fit it into their other big-bore models. They, too, suffer from the fading brake blues.

We put the brakes on the test machine through a very severe testing session to see just how well they held up. Stopping an 800-pound machine is no easy task. In time we got both front and rear units to fade, but it took a long stretch of winding mountain roads to do it. The average rider on the new FLH will never outdo his brakes, we're sure. Not unless he really tries, like we did.

Tractor-like pulling power is what Harley-Davidsons are famous for. With 74 cubic inches under you, it's no wonder. Once you use first gear to begin rolling, it's not likely you'll have to use it again until you stop. Third and fourth gears around town were more than sufficient for chugging along. And at highway speeds, you'll never have to downshift to pass a slower-moving vehicle.

The Electra Glide is reputed to be one of the better touring bikes in existence. After many miles of riding the FLH, we have to say that it is comfortable, but not as nice as it could be with a reduction in the vibration miseries. No matter what type of vibration occurs, with it comes fatigue. That is the problem with the FLH. The vibes got to us after about an hour of riding at cruising speeds.

Suspension has to be termed excellent. Bumps and holes are nearly cancelled out by the combination of large tires (5.10 x 16", front and rear) and good fork/ shock action. Whatever manages to get through is absorbed by the suspension device built into the dual seat. That's right, the seat has its own built-in shock absorber. When riding two-up, a set of coil springs should he employed to help the shock device with the added weight. They fit under the seat and swing down into position when needed. The only complaint about the seat involves a passenger. The unit is not quite long enough for two-up riding, and as a result, the passenger is forced up against the railing that runs around the back of the seat.

Another problem pops up when a passenger climbs on. The folding foot-rests for the second rider are in a position that hits the front rider in the calf whenever he puts his feet down on the ground, as when stopped. They are positioned so far forward, in fact, that the solo rider can use them quite comfortably for his footpegs. They actually proved to be more comfortable than the footboards.

Little has changed in the mechanical innards of the big OH V V-twin. Gradually over the years the people at H-D have incorporated new features, but the traditional basics still remain. It is a well-known fact that the Electra Glide is built to last. Reliability is one reason why this machine has such tremendous resale value.

The huge frame, even though very stout, looks crude and cobby. In fact, some of the bits and pieces used in other areas strike you the same way. While H-D will go out of its way to chrome certain items, others are left in their "as cast" state. We can't understand why this is done. When someone pays three grand for a motorcycle, he expects to have every last part finished to perfection. But perhaps Harley-Davidson riders aren't so particular.

One thing is for sure. Electra Glide riders are an unusual breed. Marching to the sound of a different drummer is what it takes to live with and love the big 74. But we've known that all along, haven't we?
Take this 1965 Harley-Davidson FLH Electra Glide, the last of the Harley Panheads.

The ’60s were a revolutionary time for motorcycling, as Japanese brands made great inroads into the U.S. market with small, lightweight bikes offering exceptional performance for their size. But the Glide line was a perfect example of Harley’s policy of evolution, rather than revolution, in developing its bikes.

For ’65, the Glide still came with the venerable 74-cubic-inch (1,200cc) “Panhead” motor, which got that nickname from its pie-pan-shaped rocker-arm covers. Panheads had powered big Harleys for 18 years, including models such as the Hydra Glide and the follow-up Duo Glide. In ’66, though, the company would switch to the more modern Shovelhead design that would carry it all the way into the ’80s.

But while this machine had a motor rooted in the past, it also looked to the future with a feature that earned it the Electra Glide name: an electric starter. This was the first big Harley to feature push-button starting, along with the required 12-volt electrical system. But it also retained a kickstarter for traditionalists.

In keeping with that “something old, something new” approach, the company also offered ’65 Glide buyers a choice of either hand or foot shifting. Harley felt that the foot shift would appeal to new riders and those used to British bikes, while the old-style hand shift would be favored by the company’s hard-core base of loyal riders.

All together, that mix of features makes the 1965 Electra Glide a perfect period piece, an artifact of a company in the process of adapting its products to meet changing demands.

Harley Davidson FL 1200 Electra Glide 1970

Cycle Guide of 1970

Well folks, here it is, the one, the only, the undisputed king of two wheel touring. World(?) Yesiree, the Harley Davidson 74 inch Electra Glide is unmistakable in any crowd. There are few motorcycles indeed that have such a fervent and dedicated group of owners. And, few also are the machines that have taken such verbal maligning over the years.

Our experience with this new Electra Glide was an enlightening experience on how to take a trip. It's been a while since we last had the opportunity to ride one of the 'king of the out-performers,' and there is a lot that perhaps we have been missing. We even became reserved in using the term "Road Testing" in regards to the 74, we often wondered if it wasn't the Harley that was testing us. Actually the big V twin engine hasn't changed a whole lot over the years. After all, if a couple of wars, a depression and mini skirts haven't been able to stop the sales of the big 74 cu. in. twin, maybe it isn't all that bad.

The big Electra Glide isn't just a machine, it's an image. In these days of the super quick two stroke lightweights and high revving multis, the 74 can be considered another dimension in motorcycling.

Upon receiving a phone call that one ready to go Harley Davidson FLH was waiting for us at Harley of Fullerton, our first decision had to be made. How would we bring the 74 back to the office? We normally load the test machines into one of our trucks, but this is not the average motorcycle, at least not in size. But, the service manager at Harley of Fullerton informed us that there would be no problem in loading the FLH in our truck. (What an understatement!)

The loading ramp for the 74 is no exception. It weighed in at no less than seventy-five pounds and was wide enough to accept any two Oriental lightweights at the same time. It fit the 74 like it was mated to it. The loading and unloading procedure required no less than three hearty and muscular grunting men. This operation quickly assured us that should we incur any difficulties such as a flat tire or a spill, the Auto Club tow service would be our only hope for assistance.

Throughout each year we have the opportunity to road test most of the new machinery on the market, and also some prototype models on occasion. Some of the real high performance machinery can really put chills up the back of even the most stout of heart. In the goose bump department, the big FLH has it hands down over just about any motorcycle for a first timer. The goose bumps begin long before the engine even fires, like about the time the riders, leg swings over the saddlebags and luggage carrier and his toes hang up on the seat, and the Milwaukee bomber is hoisted off the side stand. This is when you start to feel the massiveness of the FLH.

It took us a few moments to find that right position of balance. The wiggling of the rubber mounted handlebars caused some concern also. The next step is to come down into the enormous saddle and relax a minute before lighting off those 1 200сс's. It's here that we first acquired the feeling of real saddle comfort. Kind of like falling into the arm chair at home after a day spent on a wooden stool. Yes sir, if it's one thing that the H-D engineers know, it's the American rider's hindquarter.

For a while now the big twins have been using electric starters. In fact, an auxiliary kick starter is not even included on the engine. There was never any need for such an item during our testing. Starting the FLH is one of the more conventional tasks that we had. Just flip on the petcock, press the choke lever, turn the key, put it in neutral and push the starter button. Immediately the growling of the' starter motor erupted from somewhere in the confines of the engine. Action erupts from the engine all but instantaneously. The unmistakable rumbling tone of the big V twin has been one of the trademarks of the Harley Davidson heritage.

It is at this point that a neophyte Harley rider finds that those goose bumps have quadrupled and probably covered most of his body. The next step is to put it in gear and get ready to aim it down the road. There are a few major features of the big Electra Glide that set it apart from other machines, as far as feel and handling characteristics are concerned. Until sufficient momentum is gained, the weight (pushing 800 pounds), wide automobile type tires, saddle and any of the larger accessories (windshield, fairing, etc.) really make the 74 feel awkward at slow speeds.

When you put the Electra Glide in gear there is an audible clunk. This clunk is apparent when shifting up through all four gears. This is one of those inherent features that has been passed on down through the years. We weren't too wild about it either. (Our test machine was equipped with a foot shift, although hand shift versions can be ordered.) The clutch functioned perfectly and it's doubtful that any amount of punishment could seriously damage it. It is a dry multi-plate type unit, and therefore engaging and disengaging gears was never a problem, hot or cold.

As mentioned before, the 74 is out of place in the tight and slow in-town traffic. Rather like driving a semi on a go cart track. As we aimed (and this is the right word) the machine at one of the freeway on-ramps, like Jekyl and Hyde, the beast changes its style.

As the machine straightened out, the throttle was rolled on. At this moment a series of chain reactions began to occur. Like the rumbling of a jet climbing overhead during take off, a thundering sound resounds inside our helmet. The thunderous roar is the exhaust note of those seventy four Milwaukee inches working ever so surely to propel the machine into the fast flow of traffic. Each time the throttle is rolled on in second and third and fourth the riders weight is gradually but smoothly pushed down into that armchair like seat. The whole seat assembly pivots at the front of the saddle frame (the horn) and the riders body rocks down a few inches. Hmmm, not too bad. Different, but very comfortable.

As the speed of this highway cruiser increases, the rumbling sound of the exhaust falls into the background. Suddenly the rider realizes that the 74 is zipping past all the traffic very quickly.

The throttle is rolled back to what feels like the idling position, and the speedometer says that we're still pushing 80 miles an hour. One sometimes associates the 74 with something that will hardly get out of its own way. This is maybe a misnomer. We're not saying that the FLH is some sort of an acceleration champ, but it does move out surprisingly well. Actually, anyone who has been nabbed by a motorized gendarme will attest to the fact that those big Harleys can indeed move right along.

The windshield and fairing afford the rider with an extremely valuable pair of accessories for long or short trips. With these two items on the machine (they are not considered to be standard, but optional items that are ordered with the majority of 74s) the rider is not subjected to the buffeting wind and tiring job of fighting wind resistance at cruising speeds. (If you haven't ridden a machine with these items you are really missing a treat out on the open road.) While yore cruising along in that comfortable saddle and behind the big wind-shield/fairing you all but lose the idea that you're whipping along at seventy-five per. There's no wind buffeting noise

in your helmet, no bugs landing on your windburnt lips and no tired arms from holding your body erect in the breeze. Yesiree, comfort and relaxation are the words of the day here.

It takes a few miles of riding the Harley Davidson Electra Glide to see why this machine has as many staunch supporters as it has. It's kind of like cruising along in a glass bubble and watching the traffic and scenery go by. After about ten or twenty more miles you feel pretty relaxed and a strange sense of confidence begins to come forth. As the big twin rolls alona the power plant exhibits a certain amountof vibration. With the saddle being as thick as it is, and mounted like a rocking chair, the road conditions and engine vibration have almost no effect on the rider. The handlebars are mounted in thick rubber, and at a stop can be moved virtually inches at the handgrips without changing the direction of the front wheel. The factory feels this is a necessity to keep the V twin's vibration out of the rider's hands. At cruising speed it doesn't af- fect the control of the machine much (as long as you're going in a straight line) under normal conditions and we guess you slowly become accustomed to this. But we didn't care for it.

The Electra Glide is undoubtedly the biggest production motorcycle in the world. The wheelbase is long, the tires look like they belong on a car and the engine is bigger than some automobile powerplants. While riding, (or piloting) the big twin you might wonder if you're really controlling the machine or if it's just the opposite. It's a strange feeling. The handling is altogether different from just about any other machine on the road. The rubber mounted handlebars tend to accentuate the slow handling feeling. When you turn them they move excessively to one side or the other before the machine moves in the desired direction. They tend to give the neophyte Harley rider an insecure feeling.

There are some other comfort type items included on the Electra Glide that are completely foreign to other motorcycles. Footboards are standard with the big twin, rather than conventional pegs. These are a comfortable feature at slower riding speeds. As soon as you get above fifty the combination of vibration and wind resistance pushes the rider's feet back and off the footboards. This did become irritating. What would appear to most as being conventional foot pegs are actually for the passenger. We found that these pegs worked well for the pilot at highway speeds.

The shift arm is rather conventional, with both a toe and heel lever. On the right side is the brake pedal, not a lever. Operating this item takes a bit of habit breaking as you don't just put pressure downward with your toe, but rather you have to lift your foot from the footboard up to the pedal, just like a car. The rear brake is a hydraulic actuated item with conventional internal expanding shoes. The front brake has a new type lining this year to increase braking ability. As a whole, the 74 still, as in the past, is a slow stopper due to the weight factor and brake lining area

You aren't alone. Even in a bad economy, Harley Davidsons seem to keep selling. There's just something about owning and riding a Harley that has created one of the most loyal groups of owners of any product in the world. The Harley Davidson logo is even one of the most popular tattoos worldwide. Yep, there nothing else quite like a Harley.
So you may be wondering whether you should go down to the local dealer and ride home on a shiny new model or maybe take a look at a used Harley Davidson motorcycle. There are pluses and minuses for both choices, but you might want to seriously consider the resale market. Here are a few reasons why:

Save Money

While a brand new bike will have all the latest improvements, buying one just a few years old can literally save you thousands. Motorcycles are just like cars, as soon as you sign the sales agreement the start losing value. Letting the original buyer take that hit can be a smart move.

Get "Free" Upgrades"

Since many Harley Davidson owners spend some serious money on customizing their bikes, lots of used motorcycles have some really cool, expensive add-ons. The good news for you is that these customizations don't usually hold their value any more than the rest of the bike. So you can get both the bike and all the upgrades for a lot less than the original owner has invested in the motorcycle. The only exception to this is with a seriously custom "show bike" which sometimes can sell for more than the original cost.Stand Out From The Crowd

One more reason to consider a used Harley Davidson motorcycle is to be a little different. While some models are produced year after year like clockwork, other models are only offered for short periods. Buy one of these and you will have something a little more unique than most people. An example of this would be the 100th Anniversary model, which was offered with special paint and trim to celebrate the Centennial of the Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Do Your Homework

If you do decide to go the pre-owned route it pays to do your homework. Check the blue book prices online and see what the average price is for the model you are looking for. Look at some of the website selling used Harley Davidsons and see what some have sold for recently. When you have picked out a candidate, ask to see any maintenance records or even to take the bike to a mechanic to be checked out. Look at the tires and brakes. Bikes get dropped, it's just a fact of life. Check closely for scratches, dents and other damage.

Once you've checked everything out ask to take a test ride. You should be prepared to show a valid motorcycle license, since the owner may be understandably reluctant to let a beginner take his Harley for a ride. Also be willing to leave your license hostage because too many bikes have ridden off into the sunset on a "test ride". Just put yourself in the seller's shoes. If you are serious most people will work with you for a test ride.

Finding the right used Harley Davidson motorcycle can be a little more work than just walking into the dealer and picking out a new one, but the extra effort can really pay off. Not only will you probably save a lot of money, but you will most likely learn a lot about motorcycles in the process. You may even make some new friends.

Harley Davidson Gifts

Genuine Harley Davidson Gift Ideas
Stuck for a gift idea? We believe that if a motorcycle seat is soft then we think it is better. Well not so. In the show room we typically are drawn to the plushness of the luxurious soft motorcycle seat and hastily purchase it without checking twice if it’s really the right one for you.

If we want to swap our stock saddle for a Harley Davidson seat here are the qualities to look for:

1. Be wary of the soft motorcycle seat. Softer doesn’t always mean better. Even if initially the foam underneath the motorcycle seat is soft like a pillow, wait till you ride on it for longer trips. You will surely pain in your spine and butt and your legs will feel numb. because softer motorcycle seat will usually bottom out in the long run. You feel like you are just sitting on a metal plate(the seat beneath the foam) which is painful. It is because softer but cheaper foam has no resiliency and will collapse under pressure. Ideally, a motorcycle seat should have high-density foam in the middle and bottom parts and a thinner soft layer of foam closest to your butt and inner thighs.

2. Consider the rider’s personal specs. height, weight, inseam and posture will factor in your choice in buying a Harley Davidson seat. This is very important to the rider’s long range comfort. If the rider’s usual posture is slouching, it could mean the tailbone will get more pressure and expect lower back pain. If you sit upright, you are prone to upper spine aches. So the Harley Davidson seat you are thinking of buying must be positioned particularly the bucket should rise at the right angle.

3. The Harley Davidson seat must be wide enough especially for bigger riders and should redistribute your weight evenly on a larger surface. The rider should not feel cramped. Eliminating hot spots enhances long term comfort.

4.Consider the mounting and bracket system. Will it call for quick and sturdy installation of your motorcycle seat?

5. The touring crowd usually like to coax a passenger to travel with them. Make sure the passenger section is padded and roomy enough for the passenger’s comfort. The passenger shouldn’t complain of any slippage especially during braking.

6. Harley Davidson seat must absorb bumps superbly.

7. The cover of the motorcycle seat is important if you are the kind of person who is more into aesthetics.Leather is popular choice,appearance-wise but a bit expensive. Leather’s durability and breathe-ability are good qualities though leather is prone to water damage. Marine grade vinyl however can fetch a reasonable price compared to leather and at the same time mimics leather’s best qualities and moreover offers more water-resistance.

Mixing visual appeal, comfort and function is a bit hard when looking to buy or swap your stock saddle for a Harley Davidson seat. the qualities aforementioned above in looking to buy a motorcycle seat is surely a handy guide.

You have to remember though, that it takes an average of eight hours in order for the new Harley Davidson seat to break in for the materials to have good effects for the rider. Top companies that manufacture high end, top of the line motorcycle seats only want to design and build ergonomically shaped motorcycle seats available today.

Thank you for visiting Harley Davidson Accessories Guide.

Buying Tips For Harley Davidson Motorcycle Cover

Welcome To Harley Davidson Accessories Guide.

Buying Harley Davidson motorcycle cover is one option if you don’t have a garage or at least a large living room to park your Harley bike. Harley Davidson motorcycle cover offers you the best bang for your security buck.

In the early days before the advent of plastic and polyurethane materials now commonly used for motorcycle covers, tarps were used to drape over the full-dresser or touring bike. Tarps were cheap but needs constant replacement.

You know as well as i do that Harley Davidson motorcycle cover or any other brands of motorcycle covers are not made equal. Either you want to buy a full-on heavy duty cover that is garage-like in size or you choose to buy lightweight motorcycle covers for traveling, so you can easily pack these motorcycle covers and put in handy bag and you are ready to go.

Harley Davidson motorcycle cover offers high end features and amenities like for example, the topside is coated with vinyl for water-proofness, presence of heat shields, so you won’t have to wait anymore for your Harley bike to cool down to put the motorcycle cover. Other features like its ultra violet rays protected to resist fading and cracking. It is ventilated and to prevent damage that condensation might cause the motorcycle cover has plastic-framed vent holes.

Another features Harley Davidson motorcycle cover or any other motorcycle cover brands are vent panels, a wheel wedge,s ewn-in windshield liner and of course it has to be moisture protected or water resistant for that “all weather” quality. By offering features like heat sealed and double stitched seams, soft lining, elastic hems,rust-proof grommets, bungee cords and storage pouch are also added features that you might want to look for when buying Harley Davidson motorcycle cover. Why? Because proper redirection of airflow is vital for the motorcycle rider's comfort and safety.

Choosing and buying the right Harley Davidson windshield or any motorcycle windshields for that matter is a personal and subjective matter. Plowing through the maze of assortment of plastic windscreens available in the market today is one main feat. Here are compiled universal guidelines in buying Harley Davidson windshield for your bike:

1. The height of the windshield should be at least two inches just below your chin when seated comfortably on your bike. You should be able to look over the windshield and see the road ahead of you without straining as well as look through the windshield easily when you want to.

2. The width of the Harley Davidson windshields should not be too narrow as to expose your hands, wrist and forearms to turbulent air thus makes you susceptible to wind fatigue.

3. Superb optics is a must. Look for any slight clues of distortion and scratches around the edges of the windshield.

4. Check to see if the set of mounting hardware that goes with the windshield does not include mis-sized screws and should come with mounting procedures or instructions. So you won't waste time discerning how to go about installing the harley davidson windshield.

5. Harley Davidson windshield installation as well as removal shouldn't be too complicated, so that it won't take you long to do the whole operation.

6.The length and width of the windshield could affect the handling of your motorcycle.

7. Do a road test with your newly installed Harley Davidson windshield at a certain speed. Notice any presence of turbulence or buffeting situation.

These are just a few general guideline if you are in the market for a new Harley Davidson windshield or if you are looking for aftermarket Harley Davidson replacement windshield. Of course, the rider's body dimensions, arm reach, the distance between the seat and the windscreen, riding position, riding style, the motorcycle's front end aerodynamics, the speed at which you travel, the bike's idiosyncrasies all conspire to create an effective windshield.

Go to your nearest Harley Davidson motorcycle dealer or to the bike's manufacturer website and ask for application charts or catalog. Browse the list of accessories that are available to your motorcycle's particular model and year. You will get an idea of what is available. If you want to buy Harley Davidson windshield online, make sure there is a solid return policy.

In a nutshell, we need a Harley Davidson windshield or any brand of motorcycle windshields to provide a barrier between the rider and errant bugs, discarded cigarette butts or any flying debris and bad air, so we can ride safely and comfortably. We should see to it that we redirect airflow and wind blasts, not on our sides, not directly on our helmets but above it. There should be a pocket of still air which translates to riding in comfort for the rider and his passenger. Installing a Harley Davidson windshield should do just that.

Harley Davidson Motorcycle Models and Corresponding Windshields:

Whether you are looking to buy new Harley Davidson windshield or aftermarket Harley Davidson replacement windshield for your stock unit, it is interesting to note that there are every conceivable windshields for various Harley bike models such as motorcycle windshields for Harley Davidson Sportster. Many riders make the Harley Sportster an all- around bike and what a greater way to get a little break from the wind than adding a Harley Davidson sportster windshield.

If you want a good combination of style, function and good looks the Harley Davidson Street Glide is fast becoming a popular model of the Harley Davidson line-up. They are even more fun and comfortable to ride if you install an excellent quality motorcycle windscreen.

While the Harley Davidson road kings are perfect as they freshly roll off from the dealer's, owners would customize their bikes according to their tastes as a way of extending their personality. Owners do this by installing a new quick release detachable Harley Davidson Road King windshield or aftermarket Harley Davidson road king replacement windshield. They would ride"naked' and cruise the boulevard in style or ride at high speed in interstate highways. Best of both worlds!

How To Install Harley Davidson Windshield and Harley Davidson Windshield Removal Process

Ideally, installing a Harley Davidson windshield shouldn't take you more than thirty minutes. The mounting hardware kit should come with mounting instructions. Although the requisite bracketry differ from windshield to windshield, some manufacturers offer quick release detachable windshields for the purpose of enabling you to interchange windshields from clear to tinted or to easily remove it and ride naked.

When mounting your Harley Davidson windshields or aftermarket Harley Davidson replacement windshields, see to it, you don't bind lighting or brake lines. Make sure the controls and mirrors should have plenty of space, so that you will be able to see any angle from the view point of your usual riding position. If the windshields' edges intrude , you are going to re-route cables differently or re-mount turn signals.

Test the windshield's fit before finally torquing down fasteners. This is to avoid making complicated changes later. Move the handlebars side to side to full lock to check if the windshield does not interfere with steering. Test ride and do it slow.
The Harley Davidson windshield should fit your bike seamlessly and Harley Davidson removal process of unscrewing the mounting bolts should be quick and painless.

How To Select The Right Harley Davidson Windshield Height

Harley Davidson windshields come in varying sizes and styles. Clear, tinted, smoked, gray, bronze and curved windshields. A complex question would be, what size should you buy? Well there are no hard and fast rules. Just good old trial and error to come up with the right windshield height configurations. But first consider your anatomy like height, torso length, seating position, arm reach etc.

If you consider riding in warm climate, you must want some airflow circulating above your helmet so you need a taller and wider winshield. Though it could turn into a steam bath during the peak of summer. A low top windshield should keep currents of air off your head. Just no air flowing directly at your head or upper lip. You may experience a situation called buffeting and i might add, wind fatigue.

The rule of thumb when selecting the right windshield height is to clear your line of vision as to comfortably see the road ahead over the windshield without straining and low enough as you can easily look through the windshield. If your windshield is too tall and you ride on rainy nights, there is a tendency that raindrops on the windshield will catch blinding lights and can turn your windshield into a translucent curtain obscuring, distorting and hindering your view of the road ahead. You are going to be in serious trouble if your windshield is too tall and making it into a deadly blindfold.

Another practical guide in selecting the right Harley Davidson windshield height for your bike is to cut a cardboard mock pattern of varying lengths and widths measurements. Have a friend put the cardboard at the front end of your motorcycle while you are astride your bike. Pretend its a real windshield and decide which is the right one.

If you have the extra budget you can go have your body dimension measured and have the manufacturer custom builds a windshield that matches your anatomy.

Maintenance and Upkeep For Your Harley Davidson Windshields

Maintaining your Harley Davidson windshield in tip top condition means that it is free from dust, particles and scratches. Clean it the same way you clean your face shields. Don't use paper towels that are easily accessible in gas stations, to wipe clean your windshield. Instead use soft cloth, preferably flannel. But before wiping it with soft cloth, flush the windshield with warm water and use a mild soap. Water rinse it until clean. Don't wipe it in horizontal or round motions as it encourages scratching, even though minor, could add up.

Your windshields should not be exposed to open cans of paint or lacquer especially in a tight or closed door environment. Just make sure every space count when you start stuffing items on your saddle bag. Choose tools like the army knife which performs various chores, resealable plastic bags which you can store dirty clothes or use to dispose of any trash. Another example is a bandanna, which you can use as neck protection, bandage or face shield cleaner.

Another motorcycle riding tip is to remember that the motorcycle's handling and braking will change once you get all your stuff on board, not to mention you will be bringing along a passenger and her stuff as well. That will add more weight. Make sure the air pressure in your tires is the correct one. Always bring along a tire gauge. The suspension settings are stiffen to accommodate the extra load.

Before heading out on the road, practice in a vacant lot to get a feel of any noticeable difference in the handling of the motorcycle like losing a measure of your maximum acceleration and increasing your braking distance.

Buy quality bungee cords and bungee nets which you can tie and loop around your luggage. Strap it on your bike for security of not losing your bags along the way. Even if your motorcycle or saddlebags have fasteners and bag guards you need added security of keeping your luggage from sliding down into the rear wheel by strapping your entire luggage than it seems to require.

One of the most important thing you can't leave home without is your cellphone. Encode your in case of emergency (ICE) numbers and phone number of a bunch of people that are ready to help or rescue you if something goes awry with your touring trek. Of course, you don't want to be caught in the middle of nowhere with a dead cellphone. So make sure to bring a spare battery, charger and a mechanism wherein you can charge your cellphone from the bike.

Just one of the few motorcycle riding tips is to always place the heaviest stuff on the bottom of your saddlebag closest to the center of the bike as possible. Line your luggage with trash bags in case it rains. Bring synthetic type of clothes, Cotton is a big no no. Cotton absorbs sweat and dries slowly.

For camping equipment, a small two-men tent works just fine and self-inflatable mattress that blow itself up. In the morning you just open the valve, roll it up and you are good to go. Limit to one pot and eating utensils.

Bring along food, unless you have ridden the road before you can never be too sure when the next meal is coming up.

The trick here is to keep your load manageable. Pack for all imaginable kinds of conditions you are likely to encounter but keep the load as sparse as possible. I suggest you use a three bag system of various sizes. Bag one-for the rider's needs, Bag two- for motorcycle tools and Bag-three for clothes.

If you buy quality products you are done shopping for years. If you have problems arising during your odyssey, it's comforting to know that the solution is probably in the bag.

Bag One- Rider's Needs:

<span For starters, the crooks can chisel and use bolt cutters on your motorcycle chains. Some even use tools like torches and grinders. More serious criminals will lift your two-wheeler and load it into a waiting van and deal with the locks later at his own leisure. Others will get away with your motorcycle during a test ride and never some back.

You don't have to deal with anger, denial and all other mixed emotions that you will go through arising from a traumatic experience of having your bike stolen by protecting your ride. You really have no reason to leave your most prized possession at risk. You have to have a little foresight and more determination to out-step the bad guys.

There are several practical ways to decrease the odds of your machines being pilfered. Though no single motorcycle security system is totally foolproof but consider your peace of mind.

You are proud of your motorcycle. That's a fact. But don't park it in front of everybody attracting different kinds of attention and passing thieves can easily cozy up to it. If you don't have a garage , buy a motorcycle cover, lock your bike and cover it. Not knowing what is underneath the cover, makes it difficult to assess of stealing it.Metal grommets on a motorcycle cover can be locked in place to prevent the cover itself from being stolen and shoo away prying eyes.

You will need secondary locks. You can use a combination of locks like fork lock, steering lock, brake disc lock, u-locks,chains,lever locks on the clutch etc. The thieves would have no time nor the expertise to tackle different locks in one setting. Make sure the chains doesn't loop or drape on the ground for the thief to easily cut it with bolt cutter. The chain should be as tight as possible and pit the locks in hard-to-reach angle. The strong u-lock and chain use to attach your bike to a solid object like lamppost, fence or another vehicle preventing professional culprit s of lifting away your motorcycle into their truck.

If you have the extra cash and want to go high tech ,buy alarmed disc locks. Cutting chains, removing locks or even lifting your motorcycle cover can start the alarm and will make noise. get an alarm with pager that notifies you when someone tampers with it. You can't always be around the area where your bike is. So an alarm with a page is a good investment.

Don't park your motorcycle next to big truck or van. Choose carefully a spot to park where felons cannot intentionally block the view of your bike.

Fix a Datatag or Alpha Dot security marking system or use an ultra violet pen to mark you driver's license and other identification on body panels, frame. engines or seat. In case your motorcycle get stolen, you have better chance of getting your bike or parts back, if the police can identify them with you ID on the bike parts. This will also help convict the thief or the handler of stolen parts as well.

Take a picture of your bike, so that police will know what they are looking for. Have all important information such as Vin and license plate number and registration documents handy.

Of course, make sure your motorcycle and accessories have insurance coverage. Insurance will not keep your motorcycle from being stolen but the experience will not make it that traumatic.

You can choose either professionally installed motorcycle security system or the DIY kind.

There are lots of different locking system in the market, ranging from the top of the line to items you can scrounge at your local hardware store. Of course, the difference would mean the cost and the added benefit of decreased insurance premiums. You have a choice really, to stop thieves from rolling your motorcycle away and discourage street prowlers in search of an easy target by decreasing your motorcycle's theft potential by putting a kind of motorcycle security system on your bike.

motorcycle security systems

Thanks for visiting Harley Davidson Motorcyle Accessories Guide.

Harley Davidson Leather Jacket:Buying Tips

Welcome to Harley Davidson Accessories Guide.

<img alt="Harley-Davidson® Men's Classic Cruiser Leather Jacket. A leather jacket is a biker's best friend. It does not only protect you from rain, cold, sand, gravel, minor abrasions( in case you crash) but it contributes to the overall looks and effect of a certain image you are trying to project.

A Harley Davidson leather jacket may be famous for giving the rider that bad boy image but the truth behind it is that it gives you ample protection and at the same time make the wearer feel luxurious. It is important to note that leather sizing is different from regular clothes sizing. If the leather jacket fit snugly the first time you wear it, it will stretch a little and mould to your body's shape overtime with constant wearing.

Harley Davidson leather jackets can be made of different types of leather like buffalo, cow, sheep, horse and kangaroo. Ideally, motorcycle leather jackets should be 1 to 1.5 millimeters thick. The thinner, softer and supple kind may look good and hug your curves but does not really have protective qualities unlike the heavy , thick kind.

Jacket length is important to consider if you are thinking of buying one. Short leather jackets maybe superior as far as aesthetics are concern but they have the tendency to slide up when you lean as you grab the handlebars. Leaving your back exposed and vulnerable to the elements.

If you are cultivating a king-sized gut, longer motorcycle leather jacket that reaches down your hips is more comfortable and keeps the breeze from blowing up your back in colder rides. The short motorcycle leather jacket is regarded as a weekend jacket and not many seasoned riders use it as a primary jacket.

Look for Harley Davidson leather jacket with sleeves that are pre-curved and tapered to mimic a riding position and long enough to cover your waist when your arms are stretch forward. The sleeves should fit snugly enough, so it won't buffet in the wind and can not pull up and expose your forearms. You will also want a little bit of adjust ability in the cuff area to accommodate watches or gloves or any additional layers of clothing when riding on chilly days.

You might want to stay away with leather jackets that have over sized zipper, fancy snaps or big buckles. they can come into constant contact with your bike more constantly and stretch your bike's paint.

So in a nutshell, buy a Harley Davidson leather jacket that not only feels comfortable, you look dashing in it,provides maximum protection and the kind that should increase your comfort level as you ride in different ranges of temperature.

Harley Davidson leather jackets

Thanks for visitng Harley Davidson Accessories Guide.

Why Wear A Harley Davidson Full Face Helmet?

Welcome to Harley Davidson Accessories Guide...

In the event of a crash consider your face being hit first. Wearing a Harley Davidson full face helmet makes you say, I'm glad i have that on. Many riders who winded up in long term care or permanently disabled from neck, facial or head injuries would have appreciated how valuable a helmet can be to prevent that kind of devastation.

The next most important accessory to buy after you have bought your Harley Davidson motorcycle is a Harley Davidson full face helmet. The process of finding the right helmet could be as daunting and challenging as buying your Harley bike. What with all the varying models and sizes that are available in today's motorcycle helmet market would make one dizzy with lots of choices.

Some riders prefer open-face helmets because for them it cools their faces especially riding during hot summer days. And more riders even say that there's no comfortable helmet out there. I'd say they are irresponsible if not uninitiated. They don't realize the risks involved in riding. Statistics show that riders who wear helmets during a crash save their lives and suffer less injuries than those didn't. Moreover, riders who wear Harley Davidson full face helmets have full coverage over their heads thus benefit from maximum protection because no area is left unprotected.

If you are the kind of rider who loves to go cross country cruising or someone who enjoys riding all year round , wearing Harley Davidson full face helmet is definitely the best option for you. You can adjust your lock down visor if you feel the winter wind is nipping. If your bike has windshield, the helmet will protect your face from buffeting winds. A Harley Davidson full face helmet also protects you from sunburns, rain, hail. sand, gravel and bugs.

Others insist that the full coverage helmet limits your peripheral vision and mutes the noise all around you. While a full face helmet muffles external sounds from the environment when riding, considerably that is a good thing. You want to hear the more important sounds that concern you like- engines and tires of approaching vehicles, police or ambulance sirens, voices of pedestrians or something may have fallen off from your bike. By wearing a Harley Davidson full face helmet you will have reduced wind roars and all around noise is muted off, enabling you to hear the more important sounds like the ones aforementioned. It will also keep you alert by reducing fatigued from the wind. And you will not damage your hearing capacity of the effects of wind noise and loud exhaust if you wear a Harley Davidson full face helmet.

Best of all you want superior comfort and maximum protection all the while looking your best and a Harley Davidson full face helmet offers just that.

Harley Davidson Full Face Helmets

Thanks for visiting Harley Davidson Accessories Guide.

Harley Davidson Boots Buying Guide

Welcome to Harley Davidson Accessories Guide.

Any self-respecting motorcycle rider demand more than just stylish footwear. Every serious rider should have, not just a pair but a "wardrobe" of motorcycle gloves.

Harley davidson gloves are made of superior and top-notch materials. And they are made comfortable yet tough to resist abrasions, chemical spillages, wounds and cuts. Gloves made of deerskin and goatskin are supple and inside the gloves seams are sewn with durable thread material.

Open tipped or fingerless gloves are better than nothing if you venture out riding your bike. But opt for Harley Davidson gloves that cover fully your hands. In the event of a crash your first reaction would be to extend your arms and hands out if you get off the mount due to impact. And you will be glad you have protective layer under those outstretched fingers.

Harley davidson gloves have superior gripping system. It fits snugly yet confortably well. And you will be assured it stays on your mitts if a tumble occurs. Few added features are now available like air scoops or wind catching vents, plush lining, heated gloves for colder rides, abrasion pads, gloves that are pre-curved and those that have anti-allergy components so you won't have to deal with allergic reactions to your skin.

One factor of choosing your pair of gloves is the weather conditions of the place you live.
