Oh My Gosh! I just climbed out from under my rock and realised I have not updated this since I had to start working to pay the ridiculous food and petrol prices to feed my kids... You would not believe that I actually have a life. Unbelievable.I am absolutely consumed with feeding the little people, commitments, just generally being a mother to my kids, my day is a nightmare I am wake up from sun-up to midnight. I am wondering if I paid my electricity bill, maybe tomorrow. I won't promise anything to you but that when the weather turns bad, I will blog more often. Seriously! Seriously?.

Expanding my horizons

After moving to a new location, which I love, I am expanding my horizons to include information research and technology in general. There are so many things one can do with a MLS other than work in a library.

I have learned that my passion is for information in various forms, not just books. I tend to get more of my information about the world from my online connections and databases than anywhere else and this became very apparent for me when I lost my computer to that dreaded blue screen and did not have access at home.

So, now that I am back online I will be changing my blog, website and other information out here in the online world. I think I am going to go to word press with a different format. To those who follow this blog, sorry I have been gone and I will be working hard in the next few weeks to get up to speed.

I just finished reading an advanced readers copy of this book. It was a great story about life, women and friendships. It was very true to life, in showing how these women and their friendships changed and the challenges faced when life throws you a curve ball.

I read this book in two days and immediately went out and bought her first book, Loved Walked In. I have just started it and the main character Cornelia is the same. You do not have to read these books in order from what I can tell.

Highly Recommend.

Steve and Me by Terri Irwin

I finished this book recently and I HIGHLY recommend it. It was a love story filled with adventure, tragedy and family. The best part was that it was true. I knew that Terri had met him at the zoo in Australia, but I had no idea she was a conservationist in Oregon before that. She tells the story of how they met and how their love of animals was a natural fit. I swear they were soul mates.

I have recently started to use GoodReads.com and am not sure that I want to duplicate my reviews on my blog. I started this blog for keeping track of my books and reviewing, more as a personal source for my list.

I have also used it for class assignments. At this time, I am not sure where I am going with this Blog and I can see that I am not consistent with posting. So the future remains to be seen...

I recently went to a retreat and during the getting to know you part, people were asked their hobbies. I thought to myself "who has time for hobbies?" Then I heard someone say reading. It hadn't occured to me, it was more like "Oh, reading. Well, reading is my life!"

It was funny because I do not think of it as a hobby. It is part of my life, who I am and I can not image my life with out books and the ability to read each and every day. I usually have 3 or 4 books going at a time, sometimes audio too. I try to mix it up and I read a bit of everything. Currently I am listening to Ask and It Is Given, and reading Eat, Pray, Love, and What Color is Your Parachute?.

Ok, so it has been discussed on more than one blog. It is interesting how this is filtered through so many different views! The funny thing is the mudflap girl is just a bumper sticker you can get. It is not the general billboard type advertising the general public will see.
So, if you put it into the context of bumper sticker it makes more sense. Yes, I do see it as sexist though. I have driven behind too many mudflaps on the highways of MT not to be offended in some manner.

Web 2.0 Social Software--Connecting with the Community

Going at this from a Children's Librarian perspective. These are my goals:

Using Vodcasts/Podcasts: I would like to use them for storytime, making them available on the website 24/7 so that the public could access them anytime and download them also.

Flickr: I have already posted my pictures from various programs on Flickr, but would like to make it a link on the Library webpage so that it can be accessed my others from our website, not just staff. Also I would like to highlight displays.

Wiki: I would like to use this internally for staff use. Also, I think that it could be a great assett to set one up for Networking and connecting with agencies in the community that serve parents, children and their caregivers. Sharing resources.

Del.icio.us: Use internally to share websites with staff, could be accessed from any computer.

23 Things- Finished!

Wow, so I finally managed to finish everything. I can see myself using all these "things" in the library and in my own life. The blogging has been useful, I actually started this as a way to keep track of my reading log, but I could see where it would be a helpful in other areas.

I like the ability to use the online productivity tools at Google, those would have been very helpful when I was still in school, especially those group projects. being able to track changes and to publish on line also!

I can see putting your business on line with the maps and also pictures for the library as promotion.

I still think finding blogs, podcasts, videos, etc... could be more streamlined. When searching for much of this, many more links come up than what you need and then they seem hard to narrow down.

I finish my web 2.0 class this week and will be posting soon my ideas on how to use many of these resources in my library.

Rollyo vs. Google

I like the portability of Rollyo, however I could not get it to upload my bookmarks. I also like Google custom search as it was easy to cut and paste the html code.

I could see where both would be useful and one would just have to choose their preference.

So far I have a bloglines account and google reader going. It was not as hard to keep up with as I thought it would be. Of course it helps that most bloggers do not blog each and every day. I have not figured out how to track back from my blog to another, but it is on my list.

I have started another blog with my sister to track our AIDS Marathon training and fundraising at marathonmommas.blogspot.com .

I signed up for Twitter, on a personal level I have do not see much use for it (I actually like not being in contact with people 24/7). However, I could see using it in the library to promote events and what is happening on a daily/hourly basis.

As you can see I have been playing with the online image generators and plan on using them to add to my blog(s).

I am enjoying having a Del.icio.us account that can be accessed at whatever library I am currently subbing for.
