Rose (14) and Hazel (12) capped off a tremendous cross country running season, both reaching National Finals.  Rose’s highlights of a long season included coming 13th in the UK National Championship for her club Harrogate Harriers, and 12th in the English Schools U17 for Harrogate Grammar School. She was the highest placed Yorkshire Runner and gained a reserve England place as a result. At 14 she was one of the youngest in the field.

Hazel meanwhile, in her first year in secondary school, came 1st in the North Yorkshire Schools Cross Country, and 16th in the  Northern Cross Country Championships for her club the Harriers. She then went on to the English National Schools Finals and came in 13th, with the North Yorkshire team finishing 3rd overall.

Jo Day, commented how proud she was that both sisters led such a strong field from Harrogate of high achieving female long distance runners, many now competing at Regional level.

Thank you to everyone who came to Kettlewell today for the KONG Kettlewell Kids Kaper, the second counter in the FRA Juniors Championship.  The provisional results are available below and will be available on the FRA website in due course.

HH Junior Fell Runners in Action!

Harrogate Harriers & A.C. are pleased to announce that they will be hosting the second round of the Fell Runners Association (FRA) Juniors Championship series!

The ‘Kong Kettlewell Kids Kaper” will take place on Saturday 13th April 2019 and will also be supported by our friends from Wharfedale Harriers.  It will take place in a truly fabulous setting to the west of Kettlewell and will offer a exciting and challenging race for all age-categories. Tom and George Planning their Treasure Hunt ….

Harriers Juniors celebrated the their final fell training session of the year with a fantastic “Treasure Hunt by Headtorch”, the object being to find as much treasure (chocolate/sweets) as possible!  Armed with maps and some serious competition between groups, our intrepid treasure-hunters bombed around the muddy fields at great speed (that was probably a bit faster than the adult coaches were comfortable with) and once all the loot had been found, everyone ran back to the Squinting Cat pub in order to warm-up and eat chips.

2018 was the first year that Harrogate Harriers have offered specific fell training for our Junior section and much credit must go to Helene Whitaker and Jon Whitaker for making it happen.  We have some fantastic young runners who will be competing at all levels during 2019, it will be an exciting  year.

I hope that you all enjoyed the indoor experience today…and there is an open meeting at Sheffield on the 27th January for all age groups.

Calling all Athletes!! There is an indoor track meeting next Saturday in the indoor arena at the institute of sport in Sheffield open to all . I am enclosing an entry form with this email as the entries from Harrogate harriers is low. This is a great opportunity to run on a banked 200 m track and the facilities at Sheffield are amazing. It really is a good day out and parents can pop across to Meadow hall shopping centre for Xmas shopping and eats.

Last year Eliza Henry ran an an all time U11 girls 60 m record for Harrogate Harriers. Lets get some new club records on the books everyone!!

Lifts can be arranged for those athletes whose parents are struggling to get to or back from Sheffield.

HH Junior Fell run visit to the Christmas Tree on Simons Seat 8/12/18

A small but very fit group of youngsters were trailed to the summit by a number of older Harrogate Harrier club members and despite the wind and squalls we all made it to the summit on a very blustery December morning.

Fortunately Stump Cross café had a hot fire comfy sofas and hot chocolate to die for, not to mention their  selection of cakes and hot sausage sandwiches.  Next outing already being planned so to ensure you don’t miss out,  sign up for the off road email list so you don’t miss out or email Helene on : helene@harrogate-harriers.co.uk

This Sunday Harriers are running a pool party at Knaresborough swimming pool which is free for all athletes with drinks and some grub provided . Meeting time is at 4.45 for a 5 pm start finishing at 6pm. For parents tea and coffee will be provided, There are already nearly 60 athletes attending, and if you want to come you need to book your place with Alison Hall Jones by dropping an email to her at alisonhj@thespiralpartnership.com
