The new look as the company says on its official blog is done to make the Gmail as powerful and as beautiful as possible. The specialty about this revamped Gmail interface is that it is done to match the theme and interface of the Google's new social service Google+. They have earlier changed the look of the Google Calender in the same way.
So it seems like Google is trying to achieve the very ambitious goal of ruling the web, which means that if a person logs on the web and type www.google.com then all the services can be provided by the Google and user does not have to leave the Gooogle umbrella. These services can range from search, docs, images, social networks etc.

The Gmails new look is of two types Preview” and Preview (Dense).

The themes look like:

You can activate these previews by
1. Selecting the Mail settings from the right hand extreme top corner next to your name.
2. Select the themes tab from the top bar and select any of the two new themes Preview and Preview (Dense) located at the bottom of the theme section.
or click here and select themes Themes tab in Gmail settings
They are launching one after another killer apps and website from the last few days. Just now when I thought that google has done it all by launching Google plus what I found was a link below the Google search box which said "Your name is Galloping Gertie. How many furlongs long are you?"

This site will take you to the google search page with some question at the bottom and then you can use the google search box to fing the answer. But then there is a twist, the site claims that - "You are search the internet with A wormhole inspired time machine that enables you to solve today's puzzle spoiler free by searching the Internet as it existed before A Google a Day launched."

So what can we say Google finally doing it all to take on social network world??
So I kept following the buzz,, twitter feeds, followed many famous tech blogs and read many articles and saw many videos. I must confess it is the best social product I have seen from google. The demos are very exciting which you can check out here. The videos for this product are here.
You can opt for trial from here.

Having said all that the best blog to read about Google plus where all the info is given is the wired article Inside Google+ by @stevenjayl
Happy new year to all and most importantly to myself. After 3 years I think, celebrated the transition from 2010 to 2011 like a normal person. This year 2011 will hold a very important milestone in my life . This year I will finally become an Engineer, the dream that lots and lots of young minds of India have and I am no exception to the popular saying among students "Engineering ka Kida". The journey so far has been to say least, BUMPY and here bumpy really means bumpy. From school to high school to finally the college, I think I have spend more time with books and studies than anything else, but now when I reflect back, I can say I am happy; if not satisfied of what I have done. This very difference between happy and satisfied is what keeps me going on in my life.
In particular these four years of engineering have been quite eventful, from 1 semester ragging to 7th semester exams and placements activity. I have grown up into a person which even by my standards is a big change, so as all my fellow classmates (I hope so). I am so lucky to have these wonderful people around me, and once I leave this college I'll surely miss them. But still there is 1 whole semester to go, no need to get too nostalgic right now. But I cant resist the temptation of putting my views about the placement thing going in my college. Its actually fun to see how my mates are serious about the jobs they will get. It's like its the only thing that's gonna be counted to check if you have studied or have truly become an engineer. Even I want a job, but whether I want it now or later, is something I am still confused about. 1 thing I am sure about is, to study further, to study whole my life because the sense of achievement which I get when I solve some problem or get to know some new concept is just what can I say seducing and gives me a high. I just love studying interesting things.
Guys I just wanted to wish new year and say that just follow your dreams, just go that extra mile to achieve what you aspire because at least you will have some sense of achievement. As its said some where "shoot for the moon, then even if you fall, you will fall among the stars". Guys just dream big and believe in what you wanna do. Be stubborn , be impatient and be hungry, never ever be content though. Years will come years will go, people will come people will go, jobs come they will also go :) , but what will remain with you whole of your life is your dream and your knowledge.
Keep dreaming guys and keep studying.

As Robert Frost said in his poem- stopping by the woods :-->

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep."

Google's highly published product Google Wave which was called as the "Successor of e-mail' will be pulled out as decided by Google. What was positioned as web-based software that could transform Internet communications is officially dead. Yes, Google has pulled the plug on Google Wave.
Google Wave blended e-mail, instant messages, blogs, wikis and other collaboration tools in a web-based application that aimed to allow people to communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps and more.
Launched with plenty of fanfare at the Google I/O conference in May 2009, Google called the HTML5 app a successor to e-mail and instant messaging, a reinvention of these tools that took a fresh look at what people need in communication and collaboration online. Now Google is waving goodbye to these aspirations.
Two ints and a float are in a bar. They spot an attractive double on her own.

The first int walks up to her. “Hey, baby”, he says, “my VM or yours”. She slaps him and he walks back dejected.

The second int walks over. “Hey, cute-stuff, can I lick your Bean?”. After a quick slapping, he too walks back.

The float then ambles over casually. “Were those two primitive types bothering you?”, he remarks.

“Yes. I’m so glad you’re here”, she says. “They just had no Class!”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. The hack for Google Android mobile has been found by a group of hackers. Thousands of hackers will be able to break into the Google Android mobile OS. The new software will allow experts to break into Android-powered phones to steal personal information from people who own smartphones which run the OS.

Google will probably offer a patch to protect handsets which use run Android and downloads which will patch software on phones already in the market. That works if people who use Android-based smartphones find out about the problem and take the time to download the patch.
Seven people across the world will hold a keycard which when put together will reboot the key part of the World Wide Web should a security breach, natural disaster or terrorist attack disable it.
It sounds like something out of a spy thriller movie or an episode of South Park, but this safeguarding measure is to enable the web to be restarted.
Out of these seven, only five are needed to come together at a secure location in the US to put together the DNSSEC root key from the fractioned code, which would enable the resetting and restarting of the service. DNSSEC is a new Internet security system, run by ICANN which protects users from online fraud and cyber-attacks.
The experts include Paul Kane, head of CommunityDNS; Norm Ritchie of Canada, Jiankang Yao from China; Moussa Guebre of Burkina Faso; Bevil Wooding from Trinidad and Tobago; Ondrej Sury of the Czech Republic; and Dan Kaminsky, chief scientist at Recursion Ventures in the US. They have been dubbed the “Seven Horsemen of the Web Apocalypse” or the “Fellowship of the Ring.”

This video from Community DNS explains it in detail.
It brings rain much awaited rain without which there will be danger of drought in the area which still depend upon rain gods.
Why I am talking about monsoon is because on the idiot box I saw news of heavy rains in some part of country which has created flood like situation but the place where I am right now that is capital of an Indian state Bihar, it like reverse of what's happening in the whole country. The clouds have made this place as a passage, just like a small local railway station where super express trains not even slow down a bit. It's so dame hot here, it seems like we will have drought if it doesn't rain in few days.
So to just keep myself happy about the monsoon rains, I am sharing some pic's of the monsoon rains with you guys. If anyone of you is feeling more or less same like what I am feeling, then I bet you'll enjoy this!!!!!!!!
Web 3.0 is, among other things, about the Semantic Web and personalization.
The next generation of the Web is Web 3.0, will make tasks like your search faster and easier. Instead of multiple searches, you might type a complex sentence or two in your Web 3.0 browser, and the Web will do the rest. The browser will analyze your response, search the Internet for all possible answers, and then organize the results for you.The Web 3.0 browser will act like a personal assistant. As you search the Web, the browser learns what you are interested in. The more you use the Web, the more your browser learns about you and the less specific you'll need to be with your questions. Eventually you might be able to ask your browser open questions like 'where should I go for lunch?' Your browser would consult its records of what you like and dislike, take into account your current location and then suggest a list of restaurants.

Conrad Wolfram has argued that Web 3.0 is where "the computer is generating new information", rather than humans.

"Web 3.0 - the Read-Write-Execute Web". Rajnish Sharma says, Web 3.0 is defined as the creation of high-quality content and services produced by gifted individuals with fater search technology & great reduction in exceution timeusing Web 2.0 technology as an enabling platform.

Futurist John Smart, lead author of the Metaverse Roadmap echoes Sharma's perspective, defining Web 3.0 as the first-generation Metaverse (convergence of the virtual and physical world), a web development layer that includes TV-quality open video, 3D simulations, augmented reality, human-constructed semantic standards, and pervasive broadband, wireless, and sensors. Web 3.0's early geosocial (Foursquare, etc.) and augmented reality (Layar, etc.) webs are an extension of Web 2.0's participatory technologies and social networks (Facebook, etc.) into 3D space. Of all its metaverse-like developments, Smart suggests Web 3.0's most defining characteristic will be the mass diffusion of NTSC-or-better quality open video to TVs, laptops, tablets, and mobile devices, a time when "the internet swallows the television." Smart considers Web 4.0 to be the Semantic Web and in particular, the rise of statistical, machine-constructed semantic tags and algorithms, driven by broad collective use of conversational interfaces, perhaps circa 2020. David Siegel's perspective in Pull: The Power of the Semantic Web, 2009, is consonant with this, proposing that the growth of human-constructed semantic standards and data will be a slow, industry-specific incremental process for years to come, perhaps unlikely to tip into broad social utility until after 2020.

So finally we got a 1,500 Rs laptop....
It looks like an iPad, only it's 1/14th the cost. The prototype cost $35 (U.S.) basic touch screen tablet aimed at students, which it hopes to bring into production by 2011.

India on Thursday unveiled a prototype tablet computer that would sell for a mere 1,500 rupees, or $35, with the price possibly dropping even further as R&D efforts continue.
Kapil Sibal, showed off the super-cheap touch-screen device in New Delhi as part of a push to provide high-quality education to students across the country. The tablet also comes with a solar-power option that could make it more feasible for rural areas.
The Linux-based computer at first glance resembles an Apple iPad and features basic functions you'd expect to see in a tablet--a Web browser, multimedia player, PDF reader, Wi-Fi, and video conferencing ability. It has 2GB of RAM (but no hard disk, instead using a memory card) and USB ports and could be available to kids from primary school up to the university level as early as next year.

Students from several branches of the Indian Institute of Technology co-designed motherboards for the computer, which is likely to drop to $20 and possibly getting as low as $10.
Sibal called the as-yet-unnamed device India's answer to MIT's famed OLPC laptop aimed at children in developing nations, which started off five years ago with a projected cost of $100, but ended up going for $200.

The tablet is part of a larger initiative aimed at improving India's educational system through technology. Nearly 8,500 colleges in the country have already gotten broadband connectivity, according to the Ministry for Human Resource Development, and some 500 Web-based and video courses are available for upload on YouTube and other online portals, with more in the works.

Google Goggles: Is this the new form of search we are looking for?

A picture is worth a thousand words. With Google Goggles for Android no need to type your search anymore. Just take a picture. Find out what businesses are nearby. Just point your phone at a store. Turn on ‘visual search history’ to view or share your pictures at any time. Turn it off to discard them once the search is done. Goggles can also recognize English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish words and allow you to translate into other languages.

According to official help page for google mobile:

Google Goggles lets you use pictures taken with your mobile phone to search the web. It’s ideal for things that aren’t easy to describe in words. There’s no need to type or speak your query – all you have to do is open the app, snap a picture, and wait for your search results.

Google Goggles works better with certain types of queries. Try taking pictures of books & DVDs, landmarks, logos, contact info, artwork, businesses, products, barcodes, or text. Currently, it’s not so good when taking pictures of animals, plants, cars, furniture, or apparel.

For the best results when taking pictures, hold your phone in “left landscape” mode, as shown below, and press the on-screen shutter button with your right thumb.
Participating in Udbhav, visiting home or just relaxing at your place?? Today I’ll just talk about something to cheer you guys up, if I can. So lets start.

First of all I will ask a question to myself and all my fellow-mates-> Are the things like Success, Achievement, Glory, Happiness and Greatness absolute or relative??

If you have found the answer please let me know, Because I find these above mentioned “Things” pretty confusing and tricky. For Some one is very successful in his work, for some its not that worth mentioning and for some the work itself is useless. So it is very hard to define what success, achievement etc are. Isn’t it??

Let me take an example of surrounding near me, because I am not that great thinker. I’ll prefer to go with situation me and my fellow-mates are in. I seriously think that my mates(you guys) belong to the most underrated creatures in this universe, no offenses. They burn their assess everyday day and night, non-stop but at the end what they get is a big “ZERO”. What say people. It takes a shit out off everyone. But we stand their taking every bomb that comes our way. So aren’t we successful? Aren’t we achieving glory?? Some guys will say what a lame question is that, we aren’t getting marks but still believing that we are achievers huh?? Think a bit my friends that’s what I am talking about guys to ponder upon. Let people say that we are not getting any marks, we are useless, we don’t do or know anything. Just say two words to all those people and you guys know what words I am talking about.

What say guys are you ready for this or not. Let face whatever we get in our way we accept it with a happy and carefree mind and soul.

It’s said somewhere We are the master of our own mind, We the captain of our souls. So why let other (mostly sadist) people master our mind and captain our soul. I can bet that after 15-20 years, all of us will be doing great in our lives, some people will own their own companies, some people will have influential post wherever they will work, some guys will do some unorthodox work and will succeed in it, some will be big entrepreneurs , some will be just out of their league but most important of all we all must be happy. But for this we all have to change our definition of success, achievement, Happiness and glory. Let other say or think whatever they want, Just have patience mates. Patience is a very cool thing to have. If you have it noting can bother you. What if we don’t get good marks as other people, what if we are not as smarter, taller and stronger just as the TV adds promise that we will be(pun intended). Believe in yourself, get knowledge, know how things work, know why we are doing engineering. One we are clear in this, then there these worries about all these marks and other stuff won’t bother you, and let me add one thing more I believe that these grades which are given here aren’t going to matter a lot( no offense to toppers).

So guys cutting long thing short just know who you are and what you want to do in your life. Give a dam to other things. As someone once said Marks and Grades are always overrated in our so called civil society, I seriously believe these grading things just take us back to the cave man age where who soever killed the most or hunted the most was a hero, and those who planned the hunt, made the cave and lit the fire where just some XYZ person.

Today only I read in the newspaper that APJ Abdul Kalam said exams results are not ultimate in our life. But the knowledge is. If the most intelligent man of our country says this, it carry some weightage.

“While we may not be able to control all that happens to us, we can control what happens inside us.”
— Benjamin Franklin

So here are some of my random thoughts. Please guys put a feedback if you can.

P.S: For this we need to be united as a class, we should help each other. It’s high time for us to take some decisions about our conditions, of plans for future and what we want in life. We need to trust each other in the class, we should be there for each other. We should have a feeling of- we belong to everyone and everyone belong to us, we should help each other in no matter what situation we are in . We should make our class a true democracy. As its said Rome was not build in a day. We should not care about pity issues and thing about helping each other reach his/her dream, and lastly we should all work hard.
