that caused the $222,000 worth of damages to the recording moguls syndicate….

In a recent interview Reuters reported that:

For the first time in nearly a decade, hunters on Saturday begin tracking and killing buffalo on the National Elk Refuge in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where federal wildlife managers plan to cut the herd from 1,200 to 500 over the next five years.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officials say buffalo at the refuge, home to one of the nation’s largest free-roaming herds of the symbol of the American West, must be killed because of overgrazing and because they carry diseases that could be transmitted to domestic livestock.

The hunt aims to cull 300 buffalo — also called bison — by December.

Can we not relocate some of the bison and establish some new wild bison herds ?

Or if that is not feasable can we at least allow some young Native americans to hunt them and reembrace their culture…

– Reaffirm commitment to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Post-Kyoto arrangement needs to reflect differences in economic and social conditions among economies.

ACTION AGENDA

– Work towards achieving an APEC-wide regional aspirational goal of a reduction in energy intensity of at least 25 percent by 2030, with 2005 as the base year.

– Work to achieve an APEC-wide aspirational goal of increasing forest cover in the region by at least 20 million hectares of all types of forests by 2020. If achieved, this would store about 1.4 billion tonnes of carbon, equal to 11 percent of annual global emissions in 2004.

– Set up Asia-Pacific networks to strengthen research on clean fossil fuels, renewable energy sources and forestry.

About half of the mature tropical forests, between 750 to 800 million hectares of the original 1.5 to 1.6 billion hectares that once covered the planet have been felled.(source)

If the APEC leaders actually plant 20 million hectares of trees it somewhat pales in comparison to what has been chopped down but nonetheless would be a start. However this reforestation plan is merely an empty “aspiration”.

More importantly they should be putting and immediate stop to clear-cutting logging practices….At the very least in their own countries….Perhaps they could influence Brazil to stop chopping down the Amazon Rainforest….
