Alcohol and Drugs are suffocating our society.

Addiction to alcohol, drugs, gambling and sex is rampant in our society. With respect to Drugs and Alcohol these substances are primarily responsible for crime in our city, perpetuating poverty and driving the homeless to find relief from loss of hope and emotional pain.

Equally important is education moving into the fast lane with information which will eventually allow young and old alike to understand more deeply what the effect this legal drug has on the self. This mindset and marketing tool must be brought forth on a consistent basis in the same way general marketing is done. However, caution is suggested when an educational program walks the line of preaching. Most addicts or abusers or simply users of alcohol simple tune out when this occurs.
Those who are drinking alcohol and using other drugs to kill emotional pain will go to all means to get their hands on the drug of choice; and if the choice is not available they will use a substitute. So the slant towards education is imperative.

And when we all learn to allow our intellect to control our emotions we have a more reasonable opportunity to avoid killing our self or someone else. Remember this does not happen without "a struggle." In fact, anything coming too easily to most humans is lost in space as quickly. I hope and pray readers turn to many "help programs" if they are abusing. Start at the AFM.

Well, to meet your soul mate, you must meet your own soul. Truth personified. You know G-d once said "It is not good for a person to be alone, so I will make a helpmate for that person." G-d does not say spending time alone is necessarily bad. In fact, some of the most fabulous moments of our lives are when we are alone and at one with the world.

What G-d is really saying I believe is that loneliness is the problem, not aloneness. It seems that loneliness is the inability to share our true self with another. All of us are born with an innate need to interact closely. However, many of us have built such strong walls around us simply for emotional protection and we have trouble lowering them so someone else can enter our private world. Why? Most likely because we are afraid of being hurt. I spent most of my life keeping up a false persona so people would not see the real me. In my mind I thought this was more interesting to others. The problem -- one cannot keep up the energy to maintain a false persona or only erect cement walls around our soul to protect us from being hurt.

So to meet ones soul mate, you must first meet your own soul. The biggie question is, How?

Many mystical teachings from around the world teach us to connect with our essence, and to do that we require to quiet the mind and create a sanctuary within which allows accessibility to the subtle intensity of the soul. Some human beings create this refuge through meditation, often on focusing on breathing. Others connect in prayer, while others explore nature, hiking, dance or singing.

My main point is there are many different access points to the realm of the soul. Each and every one of us needs to find his or her own path and more so walk it. When you begin the journey down your soul's path, you will find others who are traveling a similar route.

The commandment to "love our neighbor as ourselves" holds a key to finding our soul mate. Learning to love ourself is a prerequisite to learning to love another. Sounds perhaps lofty however this is 100% truthful. For many of us the most challenging part of this journey is learning to love ourselves.

To love ourselves, we must take care of ourselves. Take a moment and ask yourself: Do I nurture myself? What do I do to take care of myself in the worlds of body, heart, mind and spirit. Go slowly, take time and record your answers. Consider engaging in this exercise several times a week. Focus and reflect on your honest responses. You may desire to set a new goal for your self. If you are like me and many others you have probably heard a negative voice from within saying things like " I don't deserve love" or I will never find my soul mate." There is good and bad news about this voice. First the bad news; These are powerful voices that have been with you for a very long time. These negative thoughts have been your responses to your own beautiful being for a long time. They are familiar and they like to hold on and usually settle in our subconscious.

The good news is that those are only thoughts, and thoughts can be worked with; you may learn how to soften them. Here is a simple strategy: the next time a negative voice appears, tell it to stop, like this, "Stop, old voice; I am not about to listen to you anymore. I am though going to listen closely to the voice who loves and respects me and who I am. Next move is to replace thoughts and words from your higher self such as; I am a compassionate person who deserves love and respect" or you could say if this is more comfortable; "I am a loving, worthwhile person who creates healthy relationships." Then you must commit to practice these affirmations on a regular basis, so that you sow loving thoughts about yourself into your subconscious.

No time to Spare? No time to rest? Blame technology

The article in the Free Press today - October 29, 2010 on page A 16, “No Time to Spare? No time to rest? Blame technology?” addresses with clarity the challenge technology presents to the users of these machines.

The information presented in this article from my opinion and what I actually bear witness too including my own indulgence is true. Many of us are hard wired and soft wired into this lifestyle. Social networks like face book, connecting to each other through text messaging, surfing the net and using not only our computers but now more Black Berry use, I Phone use and onward places barriers upon us and we often lose out on face to face human communication.

I now understand more clearly now why observance to the Sabbath laws in Judaism can be so valuable to the tranquility of the self. One turns off all mechanical devices including the convenience of automobile transportation from Friday evening to Saturday evening. This includes as well cooking and more. Preparation for the Sabbath is done in advance.

In the world we live in now “taking a break from the treadmill life many of us are on” ends up rejuvenating those who decide to do it. I can promise all of you including myself none of us shall die as a result of this decision. In fact surprisingly we will become more alive.

We human beings have choices in life as a result of the degree of free will given to each and everyone of us. Cease this opportunity. Families shall flourish.

And one after thought! It’s marvelous using all of ones senses. Smell is pretty cool and so is touch.

Causes of Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms

Heavy prolonged drinking disrupts the brains neurotransmitters, the brain chemicals that transmit messages. Alcohol initially enhances the effect of GABA, the neurotransmitter which produces feelings of relaxation and calm. But chronic alcohol consumption eventually suppresses GABA activity so that more and more alcohol is required to produce the desired effects, a phenomenon known as tolerance.

Chronic alcohol consumption also suppresses the activity of glutamate, the neurotransmitter which produces feelings of excitability. To maintain equilibrium, the glutamate system responds by functioning at a far higher level than it does in moderate drinkers and non drinkers.

When heavy drinkers suddenly stop or significantly reduce their alcohol consumption, the neurotransmitters previously suppressed by alcohol are no longer suppressed. They rebound, resulting in a phenomenon known as brain hyper excitability. So the effects associated with alcohol withdrawal -- anxiety, irritability, agitation, tremors, seizures, and DT’s -- are the opposite of those associated with alcohol consumption.

Symptoms of Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome

In general, the severity of alcohol withdrawal symptoms increases in tandem with the amount and duration of prior alcohol consumption.

Minor alcohol withdrawal symptoms often appear six to 12 hours after alcohol cessation, sometimes while patients still have a measurable blood alcohol level.

These symptom include:

*Shaky hands

*Sweating

*Mild anxiety

*Nausea and/or vomiting

*Headaches

*Insomnia

Between around 12 and 24 hours after alcohol cessation, some patients may experience visual, auditory, or tactile hallucinations which usually resolve within 48 hours.

Although this condition is called alcoholic hallucinosis, it’s not the same as the hallucinations associated with DT’s. Most patients are aware that the unusual sensations aren’t real.

Come
with me to a third grade classroom....... There
is a nine-year-old kid sitting at his desk and
all of a sudden, there is a puddle between his
feet and the front of his pants are wet. He
thinks his heart is going to stop because he
cannot possibly imagine how this has
happened. It's never happened before, and
he knows that when the boys find out he will
never hear the end of it. When the girls find
out, they'll never speak to him again as long as
he lives...

The boy
believes his heart is going to stop; he puts his
head down and prays this prayer, 'Dear God, this
is an emergency! I need help now! Five minutes
from now I'm dead
meat.'

He looks
up from his prayer and here comes the teacher
with a look in her eyes that says he has been
discovered.

As the
teacher is walking toward him, a classmate named
Susie is carrying a goldfish bowl that is filled
with water. Susie trips in front of the teacher
and inexplicably dumps the bowl of water in the
boy's lap.

The boy
pretends to be angry, but all the while is
saying to himself, 'Thank you, Lord! Thank you,

at the end of the day, as they are waiting for
