As the name suggests this amateur group are located in the North Bucks village of Hanslope. The group have been established over 30 years and some of those original members are still treading the boards!

Hanslope, Bucks (2.6 miles from Hartwell)

The group have specialised in traditional pantomimes and have performed all of the popular shows. More recently they have performed pantomimes with a modern slant and one or two self written productions.

But they are a very versatile group and have performed farces, old time music hall, musical reviews, Christmas carol concerts, mediaeval banquets both in Hanslope and surrounding villages.

We are always looking for new members.

We always need more actors, but we also need people to help backstage and front of house during productions. Maybe you have skill or experience; painting backcloths and scenery, building sets, making props, lighting or sound. We are desperate for a wardrobe crew, we have costume, but it needs repairing and replacing. We need front of house people during productions to man the door, sell raffle tickets and serve refreshments.

If you’re interested call Andy Grout on 01908 510 709

Website: www.hegs.wordpress.com
For more information about Hanslope Entertainments, please contact Andy Grout by calling 01908 510 709

<geo:lat>52.1142</geo:lat><geo:long>-0.826712</geo:long>

Hartwell Parish Plan

Hartwell Parish Plan

Hartwell, Northants (0 miles from Hartwell)

	A Future for Hartwell

Everybody in Hartwell will have an idea of the things they think should be available in a village for it to be a perfect place to live. It could be a venue for young people to hang out and have something to do. If you don’t drive it could be somewhere to get local produce, you might want a safe cycle route through the village, or access to housing for your family members.

Most people have something they’d like to see improved but just don’t know how to go about making it happen.

None of us can prevent change. New houses may be built, one business will close and another open up, a community group will stop running and others will take their place. This will always happen but instead of it happening in an ad-hoc way, with local residents feeling like they have no control over what happens to their village it can happen in a PLANNED way.

	WHAT is a Parish Plan?

A Parish Plan sets out those issues, needs and aspirations that individuals, businesses and community groups in the village think are important.

A Parish Plan for Hartwell will be created by those people who live and work in Hartwell, by people like you. Everyone in the village will be asked about anything and everything that you think might help to make Hartwell a better place to live, and if it’s not on the list, you can ask for it to be put there.

It is a plan showing how the village wants to develop in the future. It can contain any of the following, and more besides:

 Plans for more open space

 More effective public transport

Easier and/or better access to public health services

 Affordable housing

Social and leisure events and venues

More opportunities for people to have local jobs in the village

Opportunities for young people to get training and skills for jobs

 Environmental improvements and green energy

A Parish Plan is similar to a business plan – it will be created by villagers like you with support from other agencies who will help Hartwell to create its own plan for the future. This is not a plan of the Parish Council but it will be something they can use to help you get the services and facilities you think are important.

	WHY a Parish Plan?

Parish Councillors need to know what the community wants and it shows them what may be missing from the village however, the Parish Plan is yours, not the Parish Councils and it is a way to engage with your Councillors and make sure they are doing the things you want them to to improve your village.

It shows how many people would use more facilities.

It enables local people to shape the future of their village and influence local change – local solutions to local problems.

Parish Plans help funding organisations as they evidence need and provide information about who wants their money.

It gives everyone an opportunity to contribute, not just those who are the most confident, and gives the whole community a louder voice.

Parish Plans help service providers to plan how to deliver services better.

Reinvigorates local democracy by stimulating interest in local affairs creating a stronger and more cohesive community (= community spirit!)

 Helps communities become more sustainable

	WHAT Next?

The Northampton Urban Farm Project is a community group working with animals, plants and humans to establish an oasis of countryside close to Northampton Town centre.

Oakapple Farm, Far Cotton, Northampton. Northamptonshire. (6.1 miles from Hartwell)

Set back from the hustle and bustle of the busy Northampton roads, we aim to offer a unique, peaceful retreat that will relax, educate, and benefit the people of Northampton now and in the future.

If you'd like to know more about the project, or how you can get involved please email us at info@nufp.org.uk

	We need you!

We have opportunities for all members of the community to get involved in the Urban Farm project. At this time, we are particularly looking for:

	Committee members

 General volunteers

People with an interest in, or skills related to, animals, horticulture, fund-raising, volunteer work, gardening, and farming

People with skills relating to planning, project management, and farm management

 Sponsorship and donations

If you, or someone you know could fill any of these rolls then please get in touch.

The Northampton Urban Farm Project is a non-political organisation, we do not allow political interference on our committee and neither the NUFP or any member of our committee have ever endorsed any particular candidate in the upcoming elections.

We are grateful to all the candidates in those elections, and existing borough councilors, who have helped or supported our efforts. In particular, Brendan Glynane has secured much needed grants for us, while both Kathy Smith and Kevin Reeve have been vocal in backing the project.

Website: http://www.nufp.co.uk/

<geo:lat>52.2218</geo:lat><geo:long>-0.911608</geo:long>

The Orphean Singers are a four-part choral society, originally founded in 1952, who perform concerts (on request and often at Hartwell Church) to raise money for local charities and to buy music.

Our repetoire is varied and includes songs from shows, popular light classics and sacred pieces.

We rehearse every Monday evening 7.30pm to 9.30pm in the Methodist Church, High Street Hanslope.

Although we have a large library of music we keep up to date by buying music every year.

New members are always welcome and we have an active social side to our group which enables us to get to know each other, but most of all we love to sing!

There are currently two Hartwell Residents in the Orphean singers, so we can arrange a car share if you wish to join.

For more information about Orphean Singers, please contact Kath Hindley - Musical Director by email

<geo:lat>52.1142</geo:lat><geo:long>-0.826712</geo:long>

(the following excerpt is taken from the school's website: http://www.hartwellschool.com/HeadsWelcome/)

At Hartwell we challenge every child to strive for the highest standard of personal, social and intellectual development and to aim for excellence in all they do. We encourage children to have the confidence to explore and experiment as they work to develop their talents and achieve their full potential.

The excellence of our educational provision at Hartwell has been recognised through our last two Ofsted Inspections (June 2006 and September 2008) and through a history of high achievement at the National reporting ages Year 2 and Year 6.

Governors, Staff and Parents at the school are committed to providing a stimulating, caring and safe environment which encourages our children to become confident, to work hard within a supportive learning situation and to respond positively to challenge.

High moral values are at the heart of our provision. We develop trust, self discipline, friendship, good manners and mutual respect for each other and the environment. Our Outstanding Ofsted report September 2008 said "the school's belief that "second best is not good enough" is reflected in all aspects of its work". The children, parents, staff and governors are united in their belief that we have a school to be proud of.

Don’t throw it away – give it away!

Northampton (6.7 miles from Hartwell)

You might not need that old sofa or wheelbarrow any more – but there might be someone just round the corner who does. Or if there’s something you’d like, someone nearby might have one.

Freegle is an email list hosted on Yahoo! Groups that allows you to give stuff away when you need to get rid of it but don’t want to throw it in the bin. Or save something from landfill by asking for it; perhaps someone has just what you need that they were about to throw away.

There are groups all over the UK, and several in Northamptonshire, if you live in Hartwell the group for you is Northampton South Freegle or if you live elsewhere in the UK you can find your local group at the Main Freegle Website.

Website: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NorthamptonSouthFreegle/?yguid=203703192
For more information about Freegle, please contact Alison Mead by email

<geo:lat>52.2369</geo:lat><geo:long>-0.897391</geo:long>

Northamptonshire. (1 mile from Hartwell)

BookCrossing is earth-friendly, and gives you a way to share your books, clear your shelves, and conserve precious resources at the same time. Through our own unique method of recycling reads, BookCrossers give life to books. A book registered on BookCrossing is ready for adventure.

Leave it on a park bench, a coffee shop, at a hotel on vacation. Share it with a friend or tuck it onto a bookshelf at the gym -- anywhere it might find a new reader! What happens next is up to fate, and we never know where our books might travel. Track the book's journey around the world as it is passed on from person to person.

There are many local bookcrossers in Northamptonshire, who meet up to share their books with each other, and wild release them into the community. They meet to chat and arrange meetings through a local yahoo group called Bookcrossing Milton Keynes and Northamtonshire.

One of the most popular events is the meet up at Salcey Forest which happens about once every 3 months, bookcrossers come from allover the Midlands to join us in our beautiful forest.

Website: www.bookcrossing.com/referral/weebly
For more information about Bookcrossing, please contact Weebly by email

<geo:lat>52.1567</geo:lat><geo:long>-0.841012</geo:long>

Northamptonshire. (0.2 miles from Hartwell)

The idea of Pocket Parks originated in Northamptonshire. They are natural areas of countryside which are owned, looked after and cherished by the local community for peaceful enjoyment, the protection of wildlife and to provide access for all.

Our park is found off Ashton Road, 100m down Rowley Wood Lane.

Pocket Parks can be enjoyed by everyone - from the local school using them for wildlife projects to older folk who enjoy sitting by a beautiful meadow and those leading busy lives looking for a place of tranquillity where they can combat stress with fresh air, healthy exercise and relaxing birdsong.

Hartwell pocket park is managed by a working group of the Parish Council and volunteers from Hartwell parish. In June 2007 the land owned by the Parish Council was set aside for transformation into a Pocket Park.

Local funding from Northamptonshire County Council, South Northants Council and Hartwell Parish Council has allowed the development of this field into a park. The 5 year management plan sets out the first steps required to fulfil the aims and objectives.

The group which manages hartwellvillage.com

Hartwell, Northants (0 miles from Hartwell)

hartwellvillage.com was originally launched at the start of 2007 as a chat forum to let residents discuss local issues, village events and mutual hobbies and interests. Originally the idea of Our Man Inside, the site was put together and managed by Phil Sorrell (from Wheredidthetigergo) with the help of a small and dedicated moderation team.

Over the years, the forum has gone from strength to strength, and it soon became clear that there was an opportunity to give groups in and around the village the chance to share their news and events with residents online in a more structured way.

The website is the product of that vision. It has, quite frankly, been a mammoth of a project, but we are very proud of the result! The site has been developed for free by Wheredidthetigergo, and is run on a not-for-profit basis for the benefit of the community.

If you look to the top left of this page (just under the village sign), you will see a number of guides to help you, and your group or business, make the most of this site!

If you get stuck, just click the "Need Help?" button (top right of every page), or you can post your query on the forum!

Website: www.hartwellvillage.com
For more information about Hartwell Community Website, please contact Phil Sorrell by email

<geo:lat>52.1463</geo:lat><geo:long>-0.853692</geo:long>
