There are great benefits in supporting community radio by becoming a member. Community radio supports grassroots communities; provides an outlet for people who want to contribute to building community; and allows listeners to stay in touch with the local community. Community radio plays music you might not hear on commercial radio and also covers issues that are usually ignored or skimmed over by other broadcasters.

Jack Fernley talks about life before Hashbang SpaceStar and inspirations

'I grew up in the Blue Mountains surrounded by space, mountains and trees. It was great, I was always mountain biking around, exploring and adventuring."

"I also played the local pipe organ for weddings and funerals etc and presented a radio show on 2BLU. I moved to Sydney for a change and embraced it; the harbour, the beaches and bays, and the parties."

"I always wanted to make music, write and record, so when I dedicated myself to writing songs, it felt like I was home. Some of the lyrical content is influenced by frustration with different aspects of my world, and desire for a good life. Other songs are about appreciating the good things that are around: friends, parties, love, being yourself, fun, nature, the sun, the city, the bay, etc'

'There are more musicians that inspire me, but the inspirations which most of all influenced my songs are Frank Black and Pixies; Tim Rogers and You Am I. I love good electro, like Bleepin' J Squawkins, Biftek, and Felix Da Housecat, and 80's electro pop, so there's a good dash of electro influence in the sound.'

'Music today is great, I love the headway that's being made by other Aussie bands like The Presets, Midnight Juggernauts and Cut Copy. They're an inspiration for achieving great success.'
