“(Sex) is actually a well-known precipitator. One of the things people have done to look at transient global amnesia is to look at frequency of various precipitants and sex always comes out as one of the most common,” said Caplan, a leading stroke expert at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, who was not associated with Alice’s care. “It usually is after climax that it develops,” he said about its onset…

In 1999, Johns Hopkins University doctors described two patients in their 70s who suffered TGA after having sex. In these cases, the act of “bearing down” — which occurs when people move their bowels, give birth or have sex — created pressure in the brain’s blood vessels, resulting in temporary lack of blood flow that caused amnesia, according to the study published in The Lancet…

Caplan likened the hippocampus, which is responsible for short-term memory in the brain, to a tape recorder. If blood flow to the brain gets restricted, the hippocampus cannot record new memory.

“The hippocampus is responsible for initially recording the information so you can play it back,” he said. “So if it’s not working, you won’t get the information.”

Can’t get enough of funky town or lesbians so this story just made me giggle! Apparently Chinese media is reporting a rumor of a town in northern sweden that’s populated by nothing but sex mad lesbians. Trust me, if the place existed, I’d be living there.

The town, supposedly founded in 1820 in the northern Swedish woods by a wealthy widow, boasts 25,000 residents and a medieval castle, according to the Chinese news agency Xinhua.

“At 25,000 residents, the town would be one of the largest in northern Sweden, and I find it hard to believe that you could keep something like that a secret for more than 150 years.”

Mr Bertilson said he did not know where the fictitious account could have originated.

“I have no idea where something like this could have come from,” he said.

Although Per Wilhelmsson of the tourist office in Umea in northern Sweden said he had never heard of Chako Paul City, he did confirm that tourism in the area is bustling.

Seeing as we’re getting all updated and joining all these new fangled social networks I’ve signed up with, god help me, facebook.

I really never thought the day would come. I mean we signed up to twitter but I’m the only one that ever posts anything!!! Laura’s getting all excited with tumblr so I thought fuck it.
