A New Beginning

Haven Art Studio boasts of more than a face lift. New management, that has a professional approach to creating a creative and community based art center. Just walking in you get the sense of a different place than it once was.

This week marked the opening of the studio with a formal opening in a month. Kids flocked in during the past few days with no school. Happy faces, excited parents, and eager teachers to get going on the days journey. The adults have started back in their classes, with new shelves to fill and wonderful new equipment. It really does feel like a new start.

Cool Off

Spring

Here in the studio at Haven Art spring means a bit of spring cleaning. Cleaning out the old work and making room for the new. Soon we will be able to sit outside and dry our pots in the sun. Come over and join us for a spring session of classes. Group instruction as well as specialized group events, ladies nights out, tween evenings and more. Introductory Class - Continuing Education

Interested in trying out Pottery?

Check out our Port Washington Continuing Education Classes. This class is designed as an introduction to the potter's wheel. It is structured for beginners or students returning to the potter's wheel. In this 5-session program, students will learn about wedging, centering clay on the wheel, making basic forms, embellishing and glazing. Each class begins with a demonstration followed by practice time. Small classes allow for maximum individual attention. Enrollment is limited and make-ups for missed classes are not offered. Students should bring a smock and a small towel. Get ready to have fun and get muddy!

Holiday Hours

We hope you have fared well during the recent meteorological challenges. Like many of you have been and may still be, Haven Art was without power for over a week due to hurricane Sandy. We are back up and running and classes are resuming their regular schedule. If you have been displaced or moved because of Sandy, just let us know or come on in for some recharging and warmth.

Check out our Spring offerings for Watercolor and Potter's Wheel. These are five week introductory classes that are open to all levels. These classes are a lot of fun. Practice , practice, practice. We follow this mantra in sports, in music, in lots of things in life - so try it here too. Come take advantage of studio time we offer - in conjunction with your weekly lesson. Nothing better than being in the studio watching the snow fall. At Haven Art we have a great variety of teachers. Each one has something special to offer. Our Adult Pottery Classes are taught by potters with decades of experience and a real dedication to the art. Since our classes are small, everyone gets some individual attention.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Happy New Year to All. After a nice break from the studio, with some snowy weather, we can all come back refreshed and ready for a new year. Think about taking some lessons to move your skills to the next level or to master a new technique. There are great classes taught by experienced potters.

With a new year comes new beginnings. Take some time to :

clear out unnecessary stuff on your shelf
check your tools and discard ones that are no longer working for you
scrap any old trimming tools that are so dull they are worthless
make a list of what you want to achieve in the next few months
recycle any old clay sitting dormant

The list goes on, these are just some suggestions. Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing you in the studio in 2011!
