Spain: Exteriors and Entryways

While traveling through Spain, time and again I was impressed with the importance placed on hospitality and the Spaniard’s desire to make me feel welcome. This was most obviously displayed in the lavish exteriors and entryways I saw throughout Spain. This got me thinking about the homes here in Colorado. Our foyers or entries are often smaller than homes in other parts of the country, thus they are often overlooked and under-decorated areas. This doesn’t have to be the case. As you can see from the pictures, you can do a lot with a little.

Spain – Color, Design and Architecture

One of the most fascinating aspects of Spain's architecture and design for me was the use of color combinations. Now I’m no stranger to travel, and I have perused a design book or two, but Spain was total "eye candy for" me. The bold color combinations were inspiring. Blues, oranges, pinks, greens, purples and browns were mixed all together in the same room. They didn’t compete with one another in a cacophony, but worked in concert to create pleasant imagery that could be invigorating in one place and relaxing in another.

As I have mentioned before, each year the Pantone Color Institute names a color of the year. Their goal is to tap into the psychology of the world and describe our goals and desires. For 2010 that color was turquoise. I alway love to see how their forecast plays out here in the US and more locally in my neck of the woods. With 2010 over I thought I would reflect a little.....
