This is an ongoing issue with the School Soccer System. While ILH students are in full swing with their intermediate Soccer Programs, what about the OIA students who have no soccer until March?

Just because there are not enough players on the team for 11 aside game, doesn’t mean you or your team shouldn’t be playing at all…

This is why have started the fall Season of Hawaii Futsal League.

We want all players to have the opportunity to play through the next few months. And the 5 aside game is perfect for players and teams who want to continue to play, but are limited by the School Soccer Season.

If you don’t have a team to play with, you can always register as an individual!

I think what I love most, is that for the next few months Rivals become Teammates… and Teammates become Rivals.. It is an important growth period for young adults as they learn to balance friendship and rivalry.

My second love of the High School season is the play offs.. With the exception of Professional Soccer, the playoff crowds are the largest of any soccer event here in Hawaii. Fans make any game more exciting, and this is never more prevalent than in the playoffs..

No matter what school your cheering for, go to the games, and support your team!

I hate seeing the girls just blast the ball instead of being able to control the ball, AND the game.

I hate the fans not knowing anything about the game. Learn a little about the game and we will both enjoy it much more. Because blasting the ball to no one doesn’t deserve a “good job.” Some contact doesn’t justify a card. And no that wasn’t a hand ball.

I want concession’s. I know its not the Wahine’s fault, But I’m hungry lets work something out with the city.

Edit:

Final score 2-1 in extra time. Girls played well in extra time, that’s how I’d like to see them all the time.

Honolulu Native Morgan Langley joins the growing list of Hawaii natives playing professional Soccer.

The Iolani Graduate has always had critics and was forced to take an unlikely route to the pro’s. 4 years ago the only College willing to sign Langley was Swarthmore, a small DIII liberal-arts college outside Philadelphia known more for its academics than its athletics. He took what was offered and quickly set him self a part and became Swarthmore’s all-time program leader in career points and assists.

“I always dealt with being called too small or being written off,” Langley said. “To be standing in the Union locker room is something four, five years ago I never would have thought. It’s always a dream but you never expect it.”

On September 15, 2011 Morgan signed his contract to play in the MLS for the Philadelphia Union. Just 2 days later he took the field in the 80th minute for Roger Torres. The Union held their 1-0 lead against the Columbus Crew, and Morgan proved to many that he was right where he belonged.

Congratulations Morgan!

While Futsal is the new rage in American soccer, the US is just realizing what the rest of the world already knows.

playing futsal for many years. In fact Futsal has been around for over fifty years but only now has the US focused attention on the soccer skill development that Futsal Provides.

What is Futsal??

Futsal, derived from the Portuguese futebol de salão and the Spanish fútbol de salón (colloquially fútbol sala), translated as “indoor football”, is a fast paced version of soccer typically played on a court similar to a basketball court. The sport began in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1930, when Juan Carlos Ceriani devised a five-a-side version of soccer for competition in YMCAs.

The first Major international competition took place in South American, when Paraguay won the first Cup in 1965. by 1979, Six more South American Cups were held. Brazil won all six. In 1980 Brazil continued its dominance with a victory in the first Pan American Cup. in 1984 the US took part for the first time, but finished out of the running as Brazil won yet again.

In 1985 US Futsal began an annual National Championship. Futsal is establishing itself at the youth level in the US. USYSA (United States Youth Soccer Association) and US Futsal signed an agreement in August of 1995, to promote Futsal in all the State Associations. Not only does USYSA say Futsal is better, all the top officials of US Soccer and FIFA have declared futsal is the way to go. Once you experience Futsal, you will see the reasons great players such as Messi, Pele, and Ronaldo, have credited Futsal for their fantastic skills. Other greats such as Fabregas, Ronaldinho, Cristian Ronaldo, Zidane, and Kaka all grew up playing futsal.

Where can I play futsal?

In Hawaii there are only 2 true Futsal Courts, both are on the island of Kauai at Kiahuna Swim and Tennis Club. However there are several Pick-up games across the islands. There are also some futsal organizations such as Island Futsal that are popping up to promote the sport. You can also play our modified version of futsal in which we play on grass in our Hawaii Futsal League.

Have you ever thought about what is missing in Youth Soccer today?

“My position is this: street soccer is the most natural educational system that can be found.” – Rinus Michels

We have coaches, leagues, and tournaments. But when was the last time you saw our kids just playing soccer for the fun of it? Here is a better question.. When can our kids play soccer for the fun of it?

“…We need to find ways to get the kids who are in a club environment to also play and kick the ball around in unorganized ways.” – Jurgen Klinsmann. Hear more of what Jurgen Klinsmann’s has to say about youth development in this Article.

The Youth of today do not have the same neighborhood games as we once did. For a long time I have wanted create an opportunity for our kids to simply play.. After all I play 3 pick-up games each week, why can’t my kids do the same?

Starting Friday August 19th we will be organizing youth pick-up games each Friday at Kapiolani park for youth up to 13 years of age. They will be small sided games played on grass using futsal rules. Games will be played on field 5 (corner of Monsarrat and Paki) from 5pm to 6:30pm. These pick-up games are FREE! We simply want the kids to be able to play.

There is no coaching allowed! This is for the kids to play and learn on their own!

One? Me neither.. but as of this writing, they are ranked #4 in the MLS. I guess we need to follow the MLS more closely. That being said, this is still Professional Soccer, which we don’t get to see very often here in Hawaii.

The other teams participating in the Hawaiian Islands Invitational include Incheon United FC(Korea K-League), Melbourne Heart FC(Australia A-League), and Yokohama FC(Japan J. League).

Games will be double headers held on Thursday February 23rd, and Saturday February 25th. Package tickets(both dates) are starting at just $20. The games may not be as exciting as the World Football Challenge, but seriously $20 to watch 4 games of professional soccer(IN HAWAII), that sounds like a deal to me..

Remember if we don’t support events like this now, we won’t have them in the Future!
