All positions are renewed from the esteemed President to the very lowly Director of Coaching. In short we need you help. If you do not believe you will have the time for a full time position on the committee and would rather take on a volunteer role around an event all good just let me know.

We have plenty of events that need support.

This Season

This Season 2008 the club only had a hand full of people taking on all the duties from registrar to grading to team selection. We got through but we rushed, we made mistakes, we were late, we could have graded better, and we could had more trials etc. But for the limited resources we had we got through. It put a lot of strain on the few people and their families who carried this club for the season. On top of the committee members we had people who volunteered to be coaches and managers, run the photo sessions, the gala event coming up, the canteen.

Next Season

If the hawks club is to grow and not stagnate we will need your help, join the committee or be part of a project for next year. We need to start now and plan for next year this will reduce the rush and work loads. Please be part of this very positive community event.

Committee and Elections

The AGM is on the 21st of September 7.30 pm just after the Coaches Managers meeting.

You too could be President!

Forget the US elections or local council elections this is the event. You have the opportunity to take part Some Examples of Projects Projects that require assistance. Some are one off some are yearly events.

Yearly

Registrations Methods - how can we improve and not have 4 hours waiting?

Revisit Grading Methods and put a bit of fun into the events

Look at Small Sided Games - what it will mean to the club and what we need to do

Communication with our local clubs

Gala Planning

Photos

Sponsorship Management

New Initiatives

The website

General Volunteers on Sundays and Saturdays

Build the yearly timetable

Look at methods of development for our players

So come on and join this community event.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message. We look forward to seeing you again next year

Martin Ryan
Director of Coaching Hazelbrook Hawks Soccer Club

Keywords: soccer football blue mountains hazelbrook

No Games Sat 26/4 or Sun 27/4

All Nepean District grounds closed tomorrow. All attempts will be made to accomodate requests, especially in the Junior teams, however due to numbers we cannot always guarantee placement.

PLAYER REQUESTS - UPGRADING A PLAYER

Any player or parent that has a special request (eg playing up an age group mustput their request in writing by MARCH 1st. This is an exciting initiative which will give kids more involvement in the games and is in line with what is happening overseas. Briefly here are some of the changes:

U5 and U6 games will be 4v4 on a 20m x 30m field, no goalkeepers. 2 x 15 minute halves

U7 will be 5v5 on a 20m x 30m fi eld, with no goalkeepers. 2 x 20 minute halves

U8 will play 7v7 on a 40m x 30m fi eld, with no goalkeepers. 2 x 20 minute halves

ALL games played with approximate 2m x1m pop-up goals

UNDER 9s and above will play full-sized teams and fields, ie 11v11 in 2008.

Once coaches have been appointed in these age groups they will be briefed regarding the changes.

A pdf with more info can be downloaded at here.

For training dates and locations in these age groups we suggest that you discuss this with the coach on Muster day.

Tags: soccer The only thing that was missing was the Sun. Pitt Park, known for being a little cool on the best of days, finally out done itself in the temperature stakes. One word comes to mind – Freezing!

But our brave little soccer players were not afraid and took on the opposition and the temperature head on. Parents with frozen faces tried to give smiles of encouragement, while trying to remember what their toes felt like.

The players appeared to have a great day and made us all proud. Those that won their respective finals were presented with a trophy by Wentworth Falls SC to take home.
On behalf of the players we would like to thank Wentworth Falls SC for a great day of soccer.

Team reports: Under 6 Teams – Alex Damon (coached both teams) Hazelbrook had two Under 6 teams entered into the Gala Day. One team was a combination of two teams - The Wolves, plus Motassem Eldirani from the Under 6 Jaguars. They were called Hazelbrook Red and Hazelbrook Blue. As we only had 8 players we mixed and matched through out the day. There were 2 other teams - BMGS and Wentworth Falls.

Hazo Red consisted of Karl Gethin-Damon, Jared Evans, Phoebe Kennedy and Nicole Kennedy. Hazo Blue consisted of Cameron Gillian, Jack Prineas, Liam Kowalewski and Motassem El Dirani.

Scores were: Red v BMGS 0-0, Blue v Wenty 0-3, Red v Blue 0-1 (Jack Prineas), Red v Wenty 0-2, Red v BMGS 2-0 (Jared Evans, Nicole Kennedy), Blue v Wenty 0-3, Blue v BMGS 1-0 (Cameron Gillian)

It was so cold that eventually the Blue and Red teams merged into one team. Motassem El Diranin was a standout, with superb goalkeeping displays. Wenty took it all very seriously...even had a cheer squad. Liam's Kowalewski’s parents Michael and Melissa both helped out with refereeing.

Hazelbrook Blue versed Wentworth Falls in the final and went down 4-0. Under 7 teams – Simon Bosch & Ian Tanner Coaches Only two U7 teams turned up, Hazelbrook Panthers v Hazelbrook Wolves (there was meant to be three teams – one from W’Falls). Rivals all season, it was another bitter struggle.

The Wolves and Panthers slugged it out for a nil-nil draw in the first leg, the cold and windy conditions playing a part as the players slowly warmed to the task. A curious lack of mothers on the sideline meant there was little sympathy for the frostbitten children, and it was decided that another match would be played to decide the winner (and to stay warm).

First half remained nil-nil, but the second half finally saw some goal-mouth action, as outstanding Panthers player Danial finally shook off his persistent markers and blasted one in from close range. The never say die, Wolves hit back quickly with a solo goal from Julian McGuire, and with almost the last kick of the match some dazzling ball control saw a Jack Parry effort steal victory from the jaws of defeat.

The Wolves may have won on the day but the two teams can both be proud of the standard of play and effort on display. This also proved to be a great chance for some of the boys to catch up on a few games that had been missed due to bad weather.

Under 8’s - Brett Leonard Coach Under 8 Foxes. The boys had a fantastic time on the day. They won all they’re round games by scores of 3-0, 3-0, 5-0, 2-1, 3-0 and 9-0. Which meant that the team made the final and won 3-2 in a very tight game that was decided seconds before the final whistle. All the boys played extremely well, we had Joshua van Venrooy score his first goal of the season, Bailie Leonard scored 13 goals and played very well, Sean Talavera who normally plays under 7's scored 8 goals, Lucas Opdam scored 5 goals which included the match winner in the final and Christian Haring who was the rock in defence and almost scored a sensational goal from halfway.

Thanks to Wentworth Falls for inviting us to play in a very well organised day. Although someone should let Wentworth Falls know that their heaters are broken, HOW COLD WAS IT!!!

Under 9’s – Jamie Smith/Steve Opdam Coaches. In near blizzard conditions Pitt Park put on it's usual weather for the 5 a side competition hosts Wentworth Falls Soccer club. Representing Hazelbrook Soccer Club in the 9 year old division was Nathan Cavanagh, Jacob Schensual, Bradie Smith, Liam Foote, Ben Gethin - Damon, Gavin Wadeley and Zac Opdam. When these boys played they turned up the heat and simply blew the opposition teams off the park. All played inspirational soccer showing the skills in this team are simply orsome. The boys played as a team right from the start taking their brilliant form into the finals which they won 3 - 0 against a tough Wenty Falls team.

Highlights of the day included Jacob Schensual playing away from his normal position as a defender and showing his fleet of foot as a striker. Nathan Cavanagh with the ability to play any position excelled as usual in defence and attack. Liam Foote showed off his elusive skills with the ball whilst Bradie Smith enjoyed the freedom to move and strike at will. Ben Gethin proved to be a constant handful continually turning defence in attack. The flying Gavin Wadeley capitalised on anything loose with Zac Opdam paving the way for his team mates to the back of the net with pin point accurate passes.

Thanks to Wenty Falls for putting on a great day for the kids. As usual the last word goes to thank the parents for enduring the cold. I hope you have all thawed out by now.

Keywords: soccer football blue mountains hazelbrook

World Cup Wind-Up

o all Hawks members, now that the World Cup is almost over we want to know your thoughts on the beautiful game. So, lets start with your favourite and least favourite moments from the World Cup and your predictions for who will win the final!!!!! Your favourite or least favourite moment/s might be about a goal scored, a goal saved, about the way a team played or a player conducted (or misconducted) themselves, you might like to make a comment about a soccer team or their soccer jersey, even some really insightful comments about Zen-Garden Erikkson (also known as Sven) and his reign over England, or maybe even the 'HISTORY' adverts on SBS!!!

My prediction for the final is France on the back of Zidane and Henry's amazing skill, experience and ability to create something from nothing..........................

Favourite moment so far would have to be Tim Cahill's second goal against Japan........

Least favourite moment was England's performance throughout the whole tournament particularly the constant long ball to Crouch and the disaster of a penalty shoot out................As for Rooney - well almost as predictable as England's play.

Looking forward to all of your comments .......................... Jack Pople, having the best game of the season, led from the front showing how menacing he can be.

Bradie Smith and Zac Opdam teamed up in the mids to form a formidable partnership. Not forgetting up front, Antonio Beretsos, who is always a thorn to the opposition.

The defence of Jack Adams, Nathan Cavanagh and Jacob Schensual would have been like hitting a brick wall, whilst the quick relexes of Harrison Gill, Hazelbrook’s goalie, kept the opposition scoreless.

Keywords: soccer soccer club blue mountains hazelbrook soccer team

Category: soccer club

From the President

Well the rain had to come and come it did. Last weekend was a wet one with many games played but some postponed. If you were lucky enough to play I hope you enjoyed the different weather conditions during your game – from some muddy fields to drenching rain.

We would like to thank Blue Mountains City Council for upgrading the light cover at Gloria Park. Also for installing a timer switch at Lawson Oval. This ensures we are saving on unnecessary wastage of electricity and also for the safety of our members.

A donation of senior training bibs was received from our Soccer Representative body Penrith Nepean United. We thank them for their kind donation which I am sure will be put to good use in the senior ranks.

Also a huge thank you to Steve Pronger who has so graciously given up a large amount of his time in getting our website up and running. This will definitely put us on the map as being in the “up to date stakes”. The website is for us all and if anyone has any suggestions or information they would like seen put on the website please contact us.

Our address is www.hazelbrookhawks.com

A Trivia Night has been organised for all members to enjoy. This is a truly fun night so start getting those table numbers organised. Our theme is Christmas in July. I am sure we will see some very jovial Santa’s on the night.

Enjoy your soccer
Must Fly
Hawks Tail
Susan Kondek
President

Thought for the fortnight

“Half our life is spent trying to find something to do with the time we have rushed through life trying to save.” (Will Rogers)

Keywords: soccer soccer club blue mountains penrith hazelbrook christmas in july

Hazelbrook Hawks Soccer Club are Online!

Welcome to the Hazelbrook Soccer Club's Hawk Talk Blog.
