Haymarket Designs Product Update

We have some exciting new products to introduce to you this year. We've been working on several of them for a few months and the first to share with you is our new line of plates and platters!

These melamine plates and platters come in the original 6 Haymarket patterns AND 9 new designs we just added! Its been fun creating new patterns that keep the look of Haymarket's original hand-painted patterns but are created on the computer. So much more flexibility with color, size and fonts!

Speaking of fonts we are also introducing 5 more monogram choices and 4 new text fonts, plus 5 new background shapes!! So many choices and combinations possible... we can never pick our favorite!

Stay tuned in the next couple of weeks for more new products! And just a little hint of what's to come....one word, LUCITE!

How cute and clever is this "be my bridesmaid" invite?

It's from one of my best friends from college (and her very creative mom). Her name is Mary Ladd and she is getting married in Florida this September so it's very fitting! Being an advertiser I LOVE great "branding" like this, so it of course got my mind thinking of what I will do when I ask my bridesmaids (one day). That's right! One of Haymarket's trays is featured in Southern Living's Christmas Gift Guide!! I was waiting to get my hands on a copy of the December issue to share the good news, but I've heard from a few friends further South that the issue is already in homes so I can't keep it a secret anymore!

This is has been in the works for months, but I wasn't sure which of the items they requested would be selected (if any). Luckily they picked one of my favorites, the bamboo tray in coral!

I'll post the article when my issue arrives, but here it is featured in their online gift guide! :)

If you can't tell I'm grinning ear to ear. I LOVE Southern Living and feel so lucky/honored to have Haymarket featured!!

New iPhone Covers from Haymarket Designs!

As a few of you may have already seen Haymarket Designs now makes iPhone covers!
(and blackberry and driod covers too!)

We are still working on new designs but right now they come in bamboo, zebra, moroccan tile and reverse moroccan tile. Plus three new patterns...cheetah, criss-cross and reverse criss-cross! You can choose any color and pattern and add a monogram too if you'd like.

Fabric Dilemma!

Help! I bought a pair of Bergere chairs at an auction and I can't decide what to fabric to use!

For a little background...

My couch is aqua, like this one

I love the navy aqua color combo but I wanted something bright and bold to make these chairs look more modern. I saw this chair on pinterest and fell in love with the orange zebra fabric.

After weeks of hunting I finally found out that the fabric is called Expedition, but I haven't been able to find it in the tangerine color-way. I have found it in poppy (red) and indigo (navy) though....and that begins my fabric dilemma!

OPTION 1: Using the navy zebra fabric on the Bergere chairs and brining the tangerine in as an accent in the room.

PROS: I LOVE this color scheme, if you could't tell from Haymarket Designs' website!

CONS: The navy looks really dark and I'm afraid it won't be the fun, bright fabric I envisioned for the chairs to begin with. Here it is on another chair and it almost looks black!

OPTION 2:

Using the poppy zebra fabric on the Bergere chairs and having navy as an accent.

PROS: This is the closest to the tangerine color-way that I fell in love with initially.

CONS: Its very red in person and I'm afraid it doesn't look the best with my aqua couch.

OPTION 3:

The wild card. Yellow ikat on the Bergere chairs and navy accents.

I found the ikat by Duralee in one of my many fabric hunts. I had ruled it out until I saw a picture of it on a chair yesterday...

PROS: I love the bright color and the big pattern

CONS: My high school colors were green and yellow and I always stray away from green and yellow color combos.

So there you have it...I'm thoroughly confused! Please give me any thoughts, opinions or other options you have!

Lilly Pulitzer Furniture Update

By looking at the number of people that have read my first post on Lilly Pulitzer's new furniture line,
I know that there are A LOT of people just as excited as me about the launch!

Well good news, the first Lilly Pulitzer store to carry the new furniture collection is opening its doors for a grand opening ceremony at 6pm tonight. All lucky North Carolinians start running to Palm Avenue in Cameron Village! I wish I could be there tonight but I will be making the trip down 85 very soon!

Here are the details for people in the Raleigh Durham area. If anyone goes I'd LOVE to hear about it!

Looks like they have lots of home decor accessories as part of the collection as well!

Wish List Wednesday... Bamboo Mirror

Wish List Item #3... Just in case you have missed my many posts (here, here, and here) about my ~~love~~ obsession with faux bamboo...I LOVE FAUX BAMBOO! I crossed a bamboo chandelier off my wish list a few weeks ago but a vintage bamboo mirror is was still on the list. I say was because I was very lucky to find an amazing mirror on eBay this past weekend, and I have a funny story about it to share with you!

I've wanted some sort of faux bamboo mirror for a while, but ever since I saw this picture in Lonny I've been lusting for an octagonal bamboo mirror (and a campaign dresser but more on that another day).

I still love the pagoda style ones and the Greek key style ones but I really like the shape of this mirror!

Now back to my (long) story about my hunt... I've seen many fellow blogger's find faux bamboo octagon mirrors at tag sales and thrift stores from $8 to $30 so I knew this mirror should be a steal.

So a couple of weeks ago when I saw this one on eBay for $599 or best offer I about fell out on the floor!

I added it to my watch list because I was curious if it would really sell for that price.

After it sat for a week with no takers I thought "what the heck it doesn't hurt to make an offer",

so I made an offer of $100 (what I thought was generous based on the prices above).

The guy not only declined my offer but wrote back this unnecessarily rude response.

"I think you would be better off looking through the trash, your screen name suits you"

I was taken back to say the least because I've never experienced such a rude eBayer!! I contemplated reporting him to eBay but decided to just sit back and enjoy watching his TWO overpriced mirrors not sell. (He has this one for sale too for $699)

Then on Sunday a 'Buy it Now' for this beauty popped up at 1/10th of the rude eBayer's price so I jumped! It has the same dimensions and looks the exact same (carvings and all) as the other one.

I probably shouldn't have, but in my excitement over my new find I e-mailed the rude eBayer back and told him that just wanted to let him know I found the same mirror in the "trash" on eBay at 1/10th of his price. Well that unleashed the dragon... I got not one but two response within the next 5 minutes!

"KEEP PICKING IN THE TRASH. YOU ARE BLOCKED FOR BEING RUDE AND HAVING NO CLASS."

"YOUR MIRROR IS MADE OF PLASTIC: This Gold Antique Bamboo Framed Miror is made of a "Syroco" like Material> The mirror I have is made of hand carved wood and has been totally restored. Some of us have taste and other dont. Enjoy your plastic mirror!!"

The best part of all is the guy doesn't even know what SYROCO is! At first I was little concerned that I had bought a plastic mirror but after a quick Google search I found out that Syroco stands for SYRacuse Ornamental COmpany and is a molded wood technique established by an Austrian Woodcarver to make replicas of original carvings. So maybe his is hand carved and mine was made by a machine, but (correct me if I'm wrong) I don't think that calls for a $500 price difference and his rude comments!

It took everything in me not to respond and educate him on Syroco, but I figured he likes trash talking too much and it would be better to make him stare at his expensive mirrors in silence.

So Wish List item #3 is officially crossed off the list and I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival!

Sorry for such a long and rambling story, I though y'all would get a kick out of it and I just had to share!

PS- If you want a bamboo mirror of your own I've found a few others on the internet.

They aren't as pricey as the one on eBay but still not a steal...

Friday Find...Chevron @ Urban Outfitters

I was so excited when I came across these chevron rugs at Urban Outfitters the other day I could hardly wait till blogger came back on to share! These 5x7 beauties come in black, gray and aqua and the best part is they are only $69. They look very similar to Calypso Home's $300 rug that I featured in my Crazy About Chevron Post don't they? Now if I can only decide which color to get!

PS-The aqua and grey are already backordered till August but the black is available now!

What I'm Loving Right Now... J.Crew Nail Polish

I use to be a plain jane, light pink/nude nails kind of girl but this Spring I've gotten really intro bright & bold colors! I'm kinda of obsessed with Essie for J.Crew's Tangerine Color. It comes out a little darker than it looks in the bottle but I think its the perfect combo of red, orange and coral.

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Hope everyone's day includes a little guacamole and a cold margarita!
In honor of the day I'm sharing my favorite Mexican inspired embroidered clothes.

And I have to share with you my guacamole recipe. Well its not actually mine, I got if from one of my favorite restaurants in NY, Rosa Mexicano, but I've adapted it over the years to make it just right. You must try! It's super easy and delicious!

Ingredients:
1 White Onion (finely chopped)
Cilantro (finely chopped)
1 jalapeño pepper (finely chopped)
3 Hass avocados
2 tomatoes (finely chopped)
salt
pepper
lime juice

I use a molcajete (that you can get at Williams Sonoma and its well worth it) but you can also just use a stainless steel cooking bowl.

First you make the chile paste by grinding 1 tablespoon of onion, 1 tablespoon of cilantro, and 1 tablespoon or jalapeno and a little salt.

Next cut the avocados and remove the pit. Make 3 crosswise cuts and 3 lengthwise cuts to dice the avocado. Scoop the diced avocado into the molcajete and then add 3 tablespoons of tomato, 1 more tablespoon of cilantro and 1 more tablespoon of onion. Mix everything together and add a pinch of salt and pepper and a squeeze or two of lime to taste and tada you have the most delicious fresh guacamole!

Wish List Wednesday... Pair of X-Benches

The second item(s) on my wish list is a pair of X Benches. They seem to be in every room I see
these days, but maybe that's just because I really want a pair of my own! From the bedroom,
to the living or front hall, they fit in perfectly everywhere!

I love Jonathan Adler's X Benches but they are a little of out my price range at $500 a pop.

Calypso St. Barth for Target

If you haven't yet, drop everything and run to Target to check out the new Calypso St. Barth collection!

Calypso was one of my favorite stores in New York. (Well actually their outlet store in Soho was one of my favorites because I couldn't afford too many full price dresses at $200+.) So when I heard that they were doing a line for Target a few months ago I marked my calendar for May 1!

I got to Target a little after 1 o'clock on Sunday and realized I wasn't the only one that was excited about the collection. Many of the sizes were already sold out and the housewares' shelves were looking sparse. I was able to snag a few cute things though. (I apologize for the bad cell phone pictures)

Royal Wedding Craziness

Unless you've been living on the rock you know that tomorrow Prince William and Kate Middleton are getting married in the wedding of the decade!! I'll be up at 6am to watch before work and then I'm heading to Royal Wedding Watching Party after work. I know that many of my friends and coworkers are excited about the wedding, but I'm still amazed at the hype/publicity surrounding the nuptials. From T-Mobile's hilariously choreographed Royal Wedding Spoof...

I've been doing lot of day dreaming these days about my new house, and even though I haven't found it yet that hasn't stopped me from starting a wish list of must have decor. It has become part of my daily routine to scour eBay and craigslist for these treasures! I was going to include all of my current crushes in this post but realized my list is way too long. So instead I'm going to highlight them each Wednesday for the next few weeks (or months) and hopefully by then I will have a house to put them in!

Oh the sleek lines and shinny finish! I think it would look great in the new office of Haymarket Designs. I had been lusting over a white one from West Elm until I saw Camila from Effortless Style's 'Polished Tumeric' desk and fell in love with the bright yellow version. Too bad West Elm no longer makes that color! :( Fingers crossed one shows up on Craigslist or eBay!

Put a Cork in It: DIY Cork Shadow Box Table

Has anyone seen Anthropologie's cork themed window displays? Together with the Cork Forrest Conservation Alliance they collected over 2 million corks to display in windows to celebrate Earth Day.

These windows reminded me of the months my sister spent collecting corks from friends, family, restaurants, grocery stores, wine shops, etc. to make this amazing cork shadow box coffee table!

My dad and her built the shadow box table with a little paint, glass, plywood, 2 x 4s and
some legs from Home Depot... I know I'm making that sound much easier than it was but to
me the hard part was helping her arrange the 500+ corks!

To my surprise not every cork is the same size. Some are short and fat and others are long and skinny so we had to take that into account along with making sure that duplicates were spaced far apart.

It was definitely worth all the hours of arranging and rearranging though because it's a great conversation piece and looks so good in her wine themed living room!

PS- If you want to make your own cork table Pottery Barn now sells a great shadow box table. All you have to do is take out the removable dividers and start arranging!

Monday Musings...Painted Floors (and stairs)

I saw these stairs the other day and fell in love with the idea of painting a faux stair runner! I've always loved painted floors but been afraid to "ruin" beautiful hardwood floors, so painted stairs might just be my perfect compromise (and I have a few patterns from Haymarket Designs that I'd love to try out!)

As you probably know by now, I have a major obsession with ALL things faux bamboo. I was
hoping my boyfriend wouldn't pick up on my little addiction, but after telling him about my
most recent acquisition he asked if I now have enough "bamboo stuff". Nope!

One of the faux bamboo pieces I've been lusting after is a tole chandelier. I fell in love with this
one on eBay a few weeks ago, but chickened out at the last minute because I thought it might
be too much with my bamboo chippendale chairs in a dinning room.

I still wanted a faux bamboo fixture, but thought one for a different part of the house
would be better. Thats when I spotted this beauty... Well it isn't actually a beauty right
now, but with a little TLC and fresh coat of shiny laquer it will be!

This fixture is identical to one that just sold at Circa Who for $600. I got it for 1/4 of the price!

I'm not sure what color I'm going to go with. I think I will have to wait and see what room (hallway, bathroom, bedroom?) it fits best in my new house, but I'd love to paint it a bright red kinda like this...
