Welcome to the 2009 Hastings Youth Council

We held our first meeting on the 23rd of February 2009.
This year we have a mixture of old Youth Councillors and a couple of new
ones. We are still looking for 5 more Youth Councillors from Schools
that aren't currently represented - Taikura Rudolf Steiner School,
Flaxmere College, Lindisfarne College, Havelock North High School and
Woodford House. If you attend one of these schools and are keen to join
the Hastings Youth Council, give Rachelle a call on 871 5000 today!

The Hastings Youth Council is calling for applications for new members
NOW!!!

At the end of every year selections are made for 15 young people to be
on Youth Council. You can apply by filling out an application form (PDF 174kB) and
returning it to the Hastings Youth Council.

We have some exciting things planned for the new year including an
overnight team building camp in January/February,
an induction tour and some new goals and projects to work towards.

If a student is not selected for the 2009 Youth Council, they can
re-apply next time or email hayou@hdc.govt.nz to receive information
about other ways to get involved.

When: 12pm onwards Saturday 31st May
What: Green Eggs and Ham Youth Gala

This event will include gladiator, dog pile, sponge throw, apple bobbing, tug a war, sack race, horizontal bungee, ring throw, bake stall and heaps more!!!
This event is aimed at youth aged between 13-18.

The 2008 Ultimate Challenge

This Sister City event will be launched on the 26th April with a full page advert in the HB Today Newspaper. Watch out for it!

In the meantime, you need to register - go to www.ultimatechallenge.co.nz and follow the instructions.

Teams should be two person, same gender teams and the winners will receive a return trip for two to Guilin, China.

The Ultimate Challenge will create an awareness of the history, culture, geography, infrastructure and the day to day experience of life in China and our Sister City Guilin.

You will have to think outside the square, use your imaginations, persevere, use a variety of modern communication tools, compile a complete paper trail and most likely burn the midnight oil.

After a nominated period of time, should the Ultimate Challenge go unsolved, a series of clues will be posted on the website which will assist you.

Hawke's Bay Youth Awards

The Hawkes Bay Youth Awards aims to recognize, promote and celebrate the
positive contribution young people make in the community. Often the
perception of young people in the community is negative and crates a
destructive stereotype. This event will provide the opportunity to
bring young people together to acknowledge and celebrate their
significant contribution to their communities, families and peers. And
in turn encourage other youth to take up similar challenges.

All you need to do is nominate a young person (or a group) for one of
the 8 different categories. There is going to be over $8,000 worth of
prizes!

Nomination forms can be found at schools, both Hastings and Napier
Councils, Atomic Event Centre & YTS offices.

Go to www.hbyouthawards.co.nz and download a form from there!! Attached
is poster for details as well.

Let's get the word out there and start promoting the great stuff that
young people are doing!
