I've been thumping it from the car stereo for a couple of weeks now, and figured it was high time I shared it with all of you! Those of you who attended Craft Love Festival will recall listening to the talented Andrew and Victoria Knopp, the duo that make up indie-pop act, The Response.

Based in Christchurch, New Zealand, they write and record all of their material independently. Determined to faithfully translate their expansive albums from tape to stage. The response have craft a live show that utilizes every one of their limbs and will leave you wondering how two people can make so much noise!

Trust me when I say their work is AMAZEBALLS! You can purchase or download CDs directly from their website or on iTunes. If you want to feel more like a groupie, you can purchase their Tshirts on Print Mighty. I'm seriously considering getting hubby one! I especially like this one here:

Welcome to this weeks edition of 'Craft Lab', make sure you pop on over and join in our Facebook discussion! Today we are covering the topic of 'Creative Advertising' and pondering the questions:

Firstly I guess we need to ask, how do you define 'Creative Advertising'? For me it means all of the 'Out of The Box' advertising ideas that people don't tend to use as a standard. Air New Zealand is renowned for their creative marketing! Sometimes it even gets them into trouble when they take it too far!

42 Below has an exceptional flair with Creative Advertising which has taken them above and beyond to where no other home brewer has gone before!

So what tips and hints can you suggest for bringing Creative Advertising to your business?

* Advertise with like minded bloggers, look for bloggers that cover a similar niche to you. Most bloggers will be flattered to be approached.

* Offer giveaways on Instagram, on blogs and on Facebook. You can do this on your own networks, or you can approach like minded businesses.

* Join associations and networks, and network your little toosh off. Leave your details on forums.

* Enter business award competitions - Should Hazel Loves Design start an Indie Love annual award?

* Host an event, even just an open home with a 'spin'! I for one hope to Attend Ami-Ana's Moustache party this MOVEMBER... what a fun way to celebrate an open home!

* A Pop-Up-Store is another way to get creative, is there an empty shop in your neighbourhood? Approach the landlord about taking it on for a couple of weeks!

* Donate to charities.... Charities like 'The Sisterhood' are great to support, and you never know when it may get 'paid forward'.

* Share products with friends who will use it/wear it, and encourage them to hand out business cards to people who show interest in the items when they are out and about. (Leave business cards EVERYWHERE... in empty trolleys, when you are handing back the bill at Restaurants, in sugar holders in cafes... EVERYWHERE!)

* Teach a class, and advertise it on 'The Sweet Rendezvous'

Every now and again I receive an email in my inbox which is so fantastic it feels a shame not to share it with you all! Christine from Black Agnes wanted to share her Winter 2013 collection with me!

The pieces are all so clever and remind me of a favourite Aunt! As a child we spent many hours fossicking in her antique dealership, and I can't help but think of her whilst I admire these pieces! I love the juxtaposition between the history that the pieces evoke mixed with the modern lines. I think they would funk up the work day wardrobe while still keeping it corporate enough for the bosses to approve!

The Sweet Rendezvous

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I have been working on a new collaboration with Kate of Kate M Handmade, that collaboration is moving closer and closer to release. So today we thought we'd give you a 'Sneak Peek'.

The Sweet Rendezvous is a website dedicating to showing off the very best of New Zealand's Independent world's events! With musicians, artists, designers, and market holders all invited to tell us about their events.

The website has a special focus on the 'small guy', with stall holders and musicians able to register a profile page and list under each of the markets or gigs they will be attending.

Registration to founding members is $10 for the first six months and this enables them to list for all of the events they will be attending in this time and also all of the workshops.

Keen to jump on board? Markets and Music Festivals can register here and everybody else can register here.

Whilst we are primarily focussing on the South Island we are also able to feature events further North too. We will be officially moving into the North Island later in the year.

When taking your 'Sneak Peek' just remember that this is still a work in progress, and the official launch isn't until June 1st.

Kaye Bustin Studios...

A little birdy told me how much I should love 'Kaye Bustin Studios', and boy was she right! I can't wait to visit next time I'm up in Kapiti visiting family.

I love the idea of doing one of their Clay Bunting Workshops...

Kaye is an expert ceramic's artist, and has been practising the craft for many years now!

I'm sure we all could learn something from her.

Or maybe I could try my hand at screen printing?

I've actually been wanting to try this for AGES!!

The studio is based in Waikanae, and the workshops help the learner through to the more advanced. Including workshops for children... now that would be a cool birthday party idea! I sincerely can't wait to pop by next time I'm visiting Dad! And I may have to book my Mum in for a class for Mother's Day - now there's an idea!

Eek... do you think Mum will read this? I may have to go ahead with that now! LOL!

Every now and again an Indie designer will absolutely surprise me! Stop me in my tracks and make me go 'WOW'! And Lee from Pretty Birds did exactly that when she showed me these gorgeous pendants.

A while back I explained a theme I was looking for to a graphic designer, and while the projects was awesome it came back slightly different to how I'd imagined (different perception and interpretation). However THIS design is exactly what I'd imagine all of those months ago!

I love (pardon the pun) how the toughness of the design, pirate tattoo anyone! Is softened by the use of the word 'LOVE' and then modernised by the use of the blue and white stripes!

This piece perfectly fitted the LOVE theme at the 'Craft Love Festival'! I

Creative Minds and Fabulous Workshops...

Fiona from Piece has long been a supporter of 'Hazed' and I am so please to tell you about the fabulous new workshops that 'Piece' are doing.

With a couple of new workshops covering different skills that will be held in two different locations within Canterbury. The first venue is in Sydenham for all the city dwellers, and the other is at Piece HQ just outside of Rangiora. Even if you live in the city, I'm sure you agree a day in the country to craft is appealing.

Meet Genevieve

Six years ago, I started to make my little tiny hankies after having accumulated many yards of fabric over the years (that and miles of retro furniture - but that's another story). After sewing and making the little gems for a while, I decided to delve into jewellery. I must admit, I wasn't optimistic about me with a pair of pliers, but I have proved myself wrong. I love making my bunting necklaces.

Right now I am.... about to update my own personal blog, genevievelikes, while eying up a new pen I got the other day from Kikki.K.

Clicking on... Etsy for the second time today - loving some of the origami necklaces on there....

Thinking about... What the heck to make for tea, and how many boxes are yet to be unpacked after EQR repairs.Listening to...a bit of the old style Beastie Boys...

Saving for... a fancy retro bike helmet for my new Pashley Princess Sovereign bike

Obsessed with... colourful stationery. I am totally hoarder-like with it! I have boxes and cupboards of unused notebooks and I can't bear to part with any of them. One day I expect I will write a part-novel in one, and another part-novel in another..but I can't decide which one to use! :)

Reading... A rather sad book, and a rather happy book. The sequel to Eat Pray Love

Doing... Going through some fabulous new papers I have just accumulated for my bunting necklace range, but you will have to wait for the Craft Love Festival to view them.

Excited about... Writing an article for NZ House & Garden. It's on a Christchurch interior designer who has exactly the same taste as me. I drooled at his decor.

Oh, and I am excited about my 1970s retro chair find. Four stunning orange vinyl chairs with white tulip bases. Matches my white table of the same era, bought at auction many years ago. They are set to feature in the sunroom/crafty space I am about to set up again since our repairs. Yellow and white chevron fabric and orange and white furniture. I am drooling again!

{REVIEW} Rescuing Jellybean's wardrobe...

There are two things you need if you send your little one to day care, Napisan and Stuck On You labels! I have recently been getting frustrated, and feeling a little bit insulted by the number of Jellybean's belongings not coming home from day care.

I choose to dress Jellybean in quality clothes, sometimes labels. I love spoiling him, despite him being completely unaware of what he is wearing. And the 'Cost-per-wear' ratio has taught me the importance of not leaving things for special occasions, both in my own wardrobe and in Jellybean's.

Needless to say, I have been looking for a naming product that stands the test of time, can handle multiple Napisan baths and still be easily read at the end of the day. To prevent clothes being relegated to no-mans-land at day care! So when I received the Stuck On You 0-5 pack in the mail, I was more than excited to give it a whirl.

The pack included, name labels, shoe labels, clothing labels and a bag tag, all customised with Jellybean's name.

Take this cute pair of shoes for example, I purchased them for him a couple of months ago and they set me back roughly $80! Not cheap! The other week he returned home from 'school' with no shoes on (his Daddy picked him up), I wasn't happy to not find these babies in his bag. Now, with these fabulous shoe labels I won't ever have to worry about that again!

What can I say, the kids a trend setter! I love that the clothing labels adhere to all different fabrics and wash really well too!

This Country Road top is also one of my favourites, he loves dressing it up with his green skinnys (not that I have a picture, I'll have to get one next time he wears that get-up). About a month ago this top wasn't just left at day care, but taken home by another parent! Fortunately it came home, but it does make me wonder how many other pieces we've lost that way.

Not anymore though! Thank heavens for these labels, I'm going to need to order more, I've got the bug now, everything is labelled, or at least on its way to being.

{CRAFT LAB} Marketing Basics

Tonight we held our very first Craft Lab and the chat was all about 'Marketing Basics', if you missed out, you can find the conversation on our Facebook page!

So what did we learn?

Wear what you sell and always carry business cards with you!

We like to 'wing it' when it comes to our marketing plan! Although some of us would benefit from creating a Vision Map with our goals for our business.

But marketing can have many faces, local newspapers, Facebook, online shopping networks, giveaways through creative websites/facebook pages, posters in public domains, displays, exhibits, craft markets, gift fairs, building your own website.... the list goes on!

The majority of us use Facebook as a tool for marketing, but we are confused by how to make it work, with the changes that it is undertaking at the moment. One thing we all agreed upon is the need to have a 'target audience' in mind and present your posts as questions. Timing of these posts can be important.

Try not to post too early in the morning and around school drop-off and pick-up times! It is definitely a topic we will cover more in the future! I want you all to be successful with your marketing tools!

Also, try to post at least three times a day, and different types of posts, questions, promotion, photos etc.

Some of us have taken the foray into blogging. The most important thing to know about blogging, is that the more active you are in the blogging community, the more successful your blog will be, and the more traffic you will get to your blog. Visit other blogs, join in their conversations and leave links back to your own. Bloggers love to support each other!

Things to learn about print media:

1. When advertising or contributing editorial target a print media publication that shares a piece of your pie (your target audience).

2. You could wait for them to come to you (but, this may never happen)... to get into editorial - write a press release (if you are not sure how to do the 'google' models to guide you or youtube or hire a writer) and email it onto the head of the editorial team (by name) or even better - the journalist that writes features in your neck of the woods - about small businesses/ entrepreneurs/ creatives/ events...

Phew... we learnt so much more! But you'll need to read the thread to find out all about it!

Gin and Grapefruit Cocktail—In a cocktail shaker combine 1/4 cup each of gin and grapefruit juice, 1 tablespoon dry vermouth and a little crushed ice. Cover the container, shake the mixture well, and strain it into a stemmed glass over ice cubes.

Craft Lab is coming!!

I mentioned on Facebook a week or so ago about how I had this crazy idea to start up a regular scheduled discussion on my page, inviting all of those with an interest in 'Indie Design' to catch up for a chat and discuss all things 'Indie Business'.

Now that I have had the chance to think, consider and brainstorm I have decided to make this crazy idea a reality. AND so...

CRAFT LAB is coming!

The basic idea with Craft Lab is to once a fortnight catch up with a chat with mates, maybe learning a few tips or ideas along the way. Each fortnight we will have a 'project' and it will be my role to try and keep the chat on subject!

Eventually, if it is popular, I hope to open up the stage on this idea and bring it to a cafe near you, podcasting the conversation the next day... but for now, the stage has been set on Facebook.

The first three labs are going to be fairly broad, mostly as a way to gauge what subjects you all need more support with, and then as we progress further we will be able to be more 'focussed' and pull in the support of industry professionals.

Craft Lab kicks off Tuesday April 2nd at 8pm covering "Marketing Basics"

Followed by: April 16th - "Selling" and April 30th - "Basic Business"

Most importantly we are relying on YOU to make this happen!

{101 Goals in 1001 Days} Camping at Lake Tekapo

Last December hubby and I decided to get a tent and some camping equipment as a joint Christmas present, so Mid-January we headed down to Lake Tekapo for a few days of fun and relaxation.
